Again, really really sorry for the slow update. Hopefully it won't take as long next time. Anyway, please enjoy (and reviews are welcomed)!
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or Doctor Who.
A sharp rapping noise pulled Hermione mercilessly from her sleep. She groaned and turned her head to gaze groggily at her alarm clock. It was 5:30 in the morning, and it was the weekend. The rapping continued, so she stood up and stumbled over to her window. She placed her hands on the wall for a moment to let the dizziness of getting up to quickly fade, and then pulled back the curtains. A rather large tawny owl was perched precariously on her windowsill. It stood on one leg, flapping its wings madly to stay upright. An envelope was tied to its other leg, and as Hermione watched, it tapped its beak furiously on her window for the third time, clearly wanting her to let it in. Maybe not the smartest idea, but Hermione slid the window upwards, silently thanking her dad for taking out the screen last month (a branch had torn it in a storm).
The owl fluttered onto Hermione's bed and held up the leg with the letter. Hermione quickly undid the knotted twine, and the owl soared back out the window. She eagerly peeled the envelope open, and slipped out a folded piece of parchment. It was almost identical to her Hogwarts letter.
She had been nervous, at first, to show her letter to her parents, but they were surprisingly accepting about the whole thing. Then again, they had been searching for an explanation for Hermione's abilities for years only to have one suddenly handed to them on a floating platter, so it was definitely easier to just go with it.
Hermione gently but excitedly unfolded the parchment to reveal the same emerald scrawl as her original letter.
Dear Incoming Hogwarts Students,
Supplies for your school year at Hogwarts can be found in Diagon Alley, the entrance to which is in the back of the Leaky Cauldron on Needham Market. I will be there on August 23rd for anyone who needs assistance finding/entering the ally.
Sincerely,
Proffesor Minerva McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress
Quickly looking over at her calendar (summer tended to mess up her internal clock quite a bit), Hermione saw that it was the twelfth of August now.
The beginning of summer had past excruciatingly slowly. Hermione had simply not gone back to school after the incident. Her parents didn't comment when she locked herself in her room to read instead of going to school, so that's pretty much what she did She made a couple visits to her local library, but that was before summer had officially begun, so she wouldn't risk running into any classmates. She checked out as many books about magic as she could find, but to no avail. Everything she read was fictional (obviously), and when she compared various works, very very few of the details matched up.
Only eleven more days to wait, now, until she enters the wizarding world. Only eleven days until she get her real books and start reading up on everything magical. Hermione couldn't wait.
She ran across the hall and knocked furiously on her parent's door. Yes, it was early in the morning, but that thought seemed to have slipped her mind. A disheveled Mr. Granger opened the door.
"Hermione, it's 5:45 in the morning. What's wrong?" Slightly bouncing on the balls of her feet and smiling way too widely, she handed the parchment to her father. Her rubbed his eyes and put in his reading glasses, squinting. "Okay, so we'll go to this Diagonal Alley on the 23rd. I don't know why you had to wake me up for this, but..." He trailed off and shuffled back to bed, closing the door behind him.
He just doesn't understand yet, she thought to herself as swoop almost skipped back to her room. Two more weeks and I'll meet other wizards and witches. And in less than a month, I'm going to Hogwarts!
