Chapter 4

The flames flicked on the hand held torch he was gripping tightly as he continued his descent down the spiral staircase. The dust and cobwebs that had continuously increased over the years was making it hard to breathe or see, as he came closer to reaching the end of the stairwell. Conjuring his staff he chanted a spell, a small gust of wind swept through the rest of the stairwell, followed by a little yellow and orange light.

Reaching the last of the stairs, he came in to view of a small marbled wall room, filled with shelves of books and papyruses that would hopefully reveal some truth to the mystery of the recent events that have occurred.

All around torches hung on the wall all aglow with blazing flames, casting light; seeping into every contour throughout the room dispelling the darkness that dwindles within and the dust and cobwebs blown away to nonexistence, all thanks the small spell that was chanted.

Lighting the candle that sat on the little and only table in the room he brought over a pile of books and papyruses to learn the context of the pages.

Pile after pile was read, then re-read and then put back in its initial spot on the shelves, before another pile was selected then brought over and place on the table to be read.

Many pages of the books and papyruses were read and studied and the knowledge of past history that they recorded was learnt, but none of these finding was the desired information that was sought out. Hope of finding anything that could answer the questions he was seeking were soon fading.

He raised his elbows resting on the table, with his hands supporting his now slumped head he huffed in defeat. He didn't have many more readings to go through and the possibility that they held the answers were very slim. He was failing again, how could he return to his king, his friend with no update and no method of help? How could he stand to see the disappointment?

Gathering up the newly finished pile, he stood and walked back over to the shelf to return the written material. He was placing the last book back in its spot he when went to reach for the papyrus scroll, only for it to slip from his grasp and roll behind the shelf, hiding between the back of the shelf and wall. Kneeling down he tried to reach for the scroll, failing to retrieve it by hand the man stood, summoning his staff to him again, pointing his wand at the shelve and chanted another spell allowing the shelf and its possessions to be lifted up into the air and moved aside. Once the shelf was moved enough out of the way that he could gain complete access to the scroll he lowered the shelf and move to grab the rolled up paper.

Having a secure hold on the papyrus the man stood readying to put the shelf back against the wall, when something caught his eye. There were several different kind of stone laid in the wall; they were smaller and darker in colour and had an imprint of a dome sketch into the middle of the altered wall.

Running his hand over the indent in the wall to remove the dust and the few remaining strands of cobweb, the man felt a tingle surge into his fingers and through his hand. Pulling back his hand the man knew of only one possibility that could cause such a reaction; magic.

Conjuring his staff, the man removed the globe at the top of his staff and placed the globe in to the fitted dome in the wall. Fitting perfectly in the indentation, the orb started to glimmer with a warm Yellow light.

"Ifta" he muttered

With a hesitant creak the wall pushed itself back a small margin before sliding over to the side, the man retrieved his orb just before the wall disappeared from sight. Lighting up his staff, he ducked into the small tunnel and proceeded to move further in to the unknown.

It continued to get darker and colder the further he adventure in, thankfully though- with the help of his glowing staff- he could make out the small clearing and end of the tunnel ahead. Reaching the end he stood and stretched after having to be hunched over for so long. Lifting his staff up into the air to see if he could get a better layout of his surrounding, he could not see the roof of the clearing it seemed to go on forever, which he could not understand he was not that far underground, he should at least be able to make out the sight of the ceiling. Advancing more into the tunnel end he heard the faint sound of clicking, looking down he came to face the realisation that he had just set off a booby trap.

Jumping forward he skid along the stone ground to be just missed by (the large swinging axe) laying on the ground face up he noticed a row of arrows lying in wait along the back of the wall set up and aiming straight at him.

With the tight feeling of the air becoming dense a dim hum and tingling sensation the arrows were let loose and shot through the air with a faint zing sound followed the arrows as they flew through the air. Grabbing his staff he faced cascading fall off arrows and produced his shield in time to prevent the arrows from hitting their target. When the last arrow fell to the ground he lowered his staff waiting for the next attack to come.

A pale Purple fog began to circle the room surrounding the man in itself, raising his the left arm the man stood bracing himself for he knew what was to come.

Out of the fog rose a yellow three headed monster with one eye each holding a club in its hand. Spotting the little man in front of it, it raised its club and went to strike the man down. Jumping off to the man's right side he raise his left arm again and summoned his own monster.

"Come forth Illusion Magician"

The diadhank on the man's arm glowed ad before him was his own faithful monster that had served him well many times before.

The three headed monster swung his club again hoping to hit the man this time now that he was laying on the ground. But before the monster could even start to bring it back down the Illusion magician had already shot forth his own attack, defending his master.

The unknown monster let out an ear piercing cry, before retaliating, bringing its right arm across it hit the Illusion Magician on its left side sending it flying across the room. Watching as the magician hit the wall and sink to the floor the monster once again turned its sight to the man on the ground. Gaining control over his staff the raised it up to the monster to use one of his own spells, but it was no use the monster had kicked the staff out of the man's hand before he could utter a single word. Stepping on the man's torso, to prevent him from dodging and escaping the monsters attack again. As the monster pinned him down it raised its club to deliver the final, the man braced himself for the blow when a light came flying across the room and blasted its self at the monster, before more balls of light went flying into the monster. Stepping off the man the monster tried shielding its self from the attack but it was no use, the Illusion Magician was sending blast after blast at the monster as it flew around the room hitting the monster all over. Blood curdling cry rung out from the monster as it sank defeated back down in to the purple fog, as the fog withdrew a light filled the room. The man could make out the room clearly, he could even see the roof that indeed had not been that very far off from him frowning he turned his sight back to the room scouring his surroundings and that's when he saw it.

There at the far end of the room basking it light stood a whits stone podium with a brown book laying on top. A book that should be covered in dust and cobwebs from sitting down here, looked perfectly intact, no dust, cobwebs not even any scratches.

Calling back his monster the man studying the book closely there was no title to affirm what the book contained, with his staff at the ready the man flipped the book open. When no monsters or any booby trap lurched themselves at the man he moved closer to study the context of the book. Page after page he read the context of the book and the knowledge he learnt from was not what he expected, oh no it was far from what he expected.

Authors Note: Short chapter I know, chapter five will be longer. I could of put more in to this one but this little voice in my head was telling me to leave at that and for some reason I agreed. I don't know I just felt I should leave it there. No guesses as for who the man could be, hehe.

Ok I know I said I was going on hiatus and I officially am now. I had all my chapter 4's done I just needed to check them over. I could have just left them and updated them when I came back but because I'm not sure when that will be, I thought I would give you all theses to tie you over until my return.
