"Naruto what the hell" Sakura fumed
The boy in question threw his hands up in earnest "I wasn't driving!" thankful for once that he didn't have his license.
Sakura turned to Sasuke who crossed his arms defensively, preparing himself for the inevitable.
"What the hell were you thinking?!" she practically spat fire "Some people cant afford to be idiots you know"
Naruto guffawed with delight at the young pinkettes fiery temper, not fawning over Sasuke had been one thing, but yelling? Naruto could barely contain his delight. He watched as Sakura stood toe-to-toe with the Uchiha impressed that she hadn't been intimidated by him on height alone, he stood a full foot and some inches above her.
"We were in a rush" sasuke ground out uncomfortably "and I didnt actually hit you"
"OH! So suddenly its my own fault? I just randomly swerved and fell of my bike for no reason?"
The pinkette didn't look like she was backing down, and Sasukes notorious pride didn't seem to be failing him. Naruto just laughed, glad he was a spectator.
"look, I'll pay for your bike repairs" sasuke huffed in deep annoyance "and your hospital bill" he motioned to her arm
Sakura looked at her own arm, suddenly horrified. She had been so angry and in shock she hadn't noticed the severity of thegenerous gash on her forearm. Without her attention focused elsewhere the pain bloomed and throbbed, Sakura gasped.
"here" Sasuke pulled his shirt over his head and tightly wrapped her wound, putting pressure on it
and there's the silver lining Sakura ogled resentfully
"Naurto can you take her bike to Kakashi's? It's barely two blocks"
Naruto sighed and bobbed his head "yeah yeah" he sighed, bummed they had worked it out so quickly, he liked a good argument.
"Wait" Sakura panicked "I can't go to the hospital, I don't have insurance and even if I did" she looked at the Uchiha with begging eyes "I cant let my mom know I got hurt" again she thought blithely, her mom already had enough to worry about.
"so then what do you want to do" he grunted
Sakura paused in thought and then looked up and grinned a little strangely "do you know how to sew?"
Sasuke gave her a reproachful look but nodded
"good" she was already headed to the car "I think there's a CVS down the way, I'm gonna need your help"
The car ride was quick and uncomfortable. Sakura gnawed her lip completely swallowed by the pain of the oozing wound on her arm. The adrenaline had worn off and she was starting to feel lightheaded.
Sasuke spared no pride in his frequent glances at the pinkette, he didn't want her passing out and bleeding on his car, and despite himself he did feel a small ounce of guilt for the injury.
The parking lot was almost deserted save for a few cars parked in the farthest park of the lot.
Good Sasuke thought less people to deal with He hated people who couldn't mind their own business.
"what do you need" he asked as they parked and headed in
"uhm" she faltered and he reached out to steady her "bandages, medical tape, a needle, some kind of thread, and a lighter"
"you want me to give you stitches" he deadpanned "no"
She looked up at him in slight surprise, she hadn't expected someone as seemingly prideful as him to back out
"oh come on it'll be fine, I would do it myself but im right handed" she ground her teeth and forced herself upright to prove her point
He didnt look convinced but made no further comment as they browsed the aisles.
"Trust me, its easy" she pointed to the items they needed and he grabbed them "you just do one stitch at a time and tie it off, its not continuous like sewing"
"hn" sasuke grunted
She still wasn't sure what that really meant, but it seemed to be his go to response
The man at the checkout eyed them guardedly but didn't make any comment
"where's the bathroom?" Sakura smiled while Sasuke swiped his card
he pointed "7th aisle all the way to the back"
"thanks" she nodded
The bathroom was cleaner than she thought it would be, and she was pleasantly surprised by the lack of stench that normally welcomed cvs patrons as they came to do their business. Wasting no time Saukra locked the door behind them and hopped onto the counter.
"can you pour some hydrogen peroxide on this?"
He complied and she cursed in pain as the liquid bubbled and fizzed over her skin acridly.
The fizzing settled and she grabbed some paper towels, wiping away the excess and inspecting the wound. Her slender fingers ran along the gash confidently "here, here, and here" she looked up at him expectantly "that's where I need the stitches"
Sasuke stood still, staring back at her scowling and fully hesitant. He sighed and dropped his head pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger.
Sakura took the moment to admire his physique. His shoulders were broad and he was built with the easy muscularity of someone who had been born with it. His arms were toned and lanky and Sakura noticed a small tattoo of a white and red fan on his upper right shoulder. His stomach flexed enticingly as he exhaled and she noted the modest happy trail disappearing below his pant line. He was, in a word, godlike.
"If anything happens, its your own doing" he finally uncrossed his arms and sakura noticed of a long almost unnoticeable scar that ran the length of his collarbone
"I trust you" she almost blushed as he neared her
he took hold of her outstretched arm and examined it slowly gliding his fingers gently along the underside of the cut, the action sent a shiver through Sakura and he looked up at her "did that hurt?"
"no" her heart was in her throat "but it will in a minute" she let out a nervous laugh
He nodded and continued to examine her arm. He smelled of mint and pinewood.
Then without pause Sasuke picked up the needle and thread not waiting for Sakura to catch her breath and slipped the needle gracefully through her skin.
"fucking shhhhhhiii" sakura hissed and gripped the counter top counting backwards from ten
Sasuke made quick work of the next few stitches and sakura went through every cussword she could think of.
"christ" she breathed as he knotted the last stitch "it always hurts more when other people do it"
He shot her a look "you asked me to"
She smiled something like a grimace and passed him an arm wrap "i know"
Sasuke took the wrap and gently held her wrist as he began twirling the fabric over his handy work, sakura watched the gash slowly disappear under length of fabric.
"Done"
His words seemed to break a strange spell of intimacy they had unknowingly shared. Suddenly the bathroom lights were too bright and they were too close.
"Thanks" Sakura cleared her throat in a metaphorical effort to clear her mind. Sasuke backed away form her like she was a wild animal, slowly and without sudden movements. "Hn"
She felt uncomfortable, and began cleaning things off the counter, doing things always made her feel more at ease.
"Uhm.." Sakura shifted off the counter, cautiously keeping her bandaged arm out of harms way "what are you gonna do about your shirt" the two of them glanced at the filthy blood soaked rag.
"I have another shirt in my car" he reached for the garment before cramming it to the bottom of the trash can, out of sight. "I keep a clean one to use after soccer" she nodded remembering somewhere in the recess of her mind that she had never seen him on the field even once.
Now that she thought about it, she hadn't seen him much in school at all. Sakura considered the odds of Sasuke managing to lay low with his good looks and ruled the notion almost impossible. Is he even a student at Konoha? she wondered.
If he was, she most definitely would have heard about him from Ino, no doubt about it. Her brows began to furrow as she stared at his face trying without success to remember at least one time she had seen him walking through the halls or sitting in one of her classes. He was handsome, too handsome to go unnoticed. She realized she was staring at him
"I've never seen you at school" she commented.
He tensed slightly "I just transferre" he answered gruffly "we should go" he walked over and swung the door open but remained in the doorframe, looking at her expectantly.
Oh right Sakura painfully remembered, I don't have my bike anymore. She quickly grabbed the plastic bag from behind the sink and began scooping the leftover things into it. Sakura gave the bathroom a once over before grabbing the receipt and hurrying out the door. As they headed for the exit, she flattened the paper between her hands, checking the price out of habit. She almost chocked, below the receipt total was a printed note addressed to her, she already knew who it was from.
Her stomach sank.
Sakura haruno,
This is the first of many notes that you will periodically receive from us. This is not to be shared with anyone under any circumstance, unless directed otherw-
"Hey" Sasuke barked impatiently, she jumped and looked up at him "why'd you stop, let's fucking go"
"Sorry" she crumpled the note into her pocket and followed him out the sliding doors into the sun.
Sasuke opened the trunk and pulled a Shirt out of a black sports as Sakura carefully buckled her seatbelt
"So why are you transfering?" She asked in earnest as he slipped into the drivers seat. Konoha wasn't known for anything special in particular, and from the looks of his car Sasuke seemed like the kind of person who could afford to go somewhere a little better, to put it lightly.
"Because I just am" he quipped with finality, sakura could feel the underlying back off
She glanced at him and he revved the engine aggressively
oookay and thats the end of that Sakura didn't push it any further and instead submitted herself to the inevitable silence for the rest of the ride.
The car pulled up to the school front and Sakura practically leapt from the seat glad to be free of the tense silence. She grabbed her things and swung the door open. Her clock read 9:45, that meant it was third period, she had art. She pushed the door shut glancing back for a moment to thank him before swiftly heading on her way. Sasuke stared at her over the hood of the car as she half jogged across the grass field towards the entrance.
Fuck school he thought.
Sakura sped towards her locker and crammed her helmet in, trading it with a large art folder. The bell signaling the end of passing period rang as a few straggler students, herself included, dashed to class.
Sakura liked art class, it was relaxing, she had scored a window seat in the back, and best of all the weird kid sitting next to her didn't bother her.
She slipped to the back virtually unnoticed by the frenzy of students moving about, getting art supplies and turning in assignments. Sakura made a point to get all her supplies out slowly, arranging and re arranging her drawing pad and pencils until she had it perfectly set up.
It wasn't her usual routine, normally she just dumped the contents of her bag out and collected what she needed, but she was anxiously trying to prove to herself that she still had control over something in her suddenly crazy life, even if it was just lead and paper.
"Alright" the teacher stood from his seat dropping a file onto his desk "today you'll spend the period finishing up your free draw from last Monday" he grabbed a piece of chalk and scribbled the assignment on the board "it's due at the end of this period" the class let out a low rumble of disapproval, half the students hadn't even started.
Sakura flipped her notebook open to stare at her finished free draw, she regretted finishing it. The note in her pocket burned, and she had nothing else to do but open it. Ten minutes went by and Sakura hadn't moved, underneath her jacket her wrapped arm throbbed, and her heart thundered in her chest.
Another minute ticked by painfully.
Finally Sakura slid her hand into her pocket and curled her fingers around the malicious ball of paper, she took a shaky breath and took it out. Carefully, so as not to bring attention to herself, she un-crumpled the paper and smoothed it out over her notepad.
