Hey guys!
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto (Hinata would have way more screen time if I did).
So I know it's been a while but hopefully I won't be leaving you waiting for more chapters any time soon. I'll try to get back into a routine and update regularly.
I had to re-read everything a couples of times to remind myself of everything. My writing style may have slightly changed, but I'm going to try and move things along and get to the good parts.
This is where Hinata's 'blood of the dragons' is introduced. I don't think I really paid attention to the scene where Naruto saved Hinata from the bullies, but this is fanfiction so I don't think it'll matter how accurate I am considering it ends differently.
I've got other stories that require updating as well, including 'Melting an Ice Queen', which I'm sure some of you will be happy to know is at the top of my list. I still haven't got a decent plot for that one, so any input would be highly appreciated.
Anyway, I've kept you people waiting long enough…
Here it is, chapter 4!
For Hinata the weeks flew by, with her learning new jutsu, making progress on the leg weights and ultimately becoming more confident in herself. Anko was a huge help; she encouraged Hinata and always pushed her to do her best.
Hinata adored her the most out of her senseis, although she always enjoyed her time with Rahishi and the Hokage - who she'd started affectionately calling 'Grandpops' - nearly as much.
Each time she was presented with a new problem, she'd find a way to overcome it. Rahishi said she was a very gifted healer and the Hokage was always showing her different things. One day it would be a new jutsu and the week after it would simply be a food or item that she'd never encountered before.
Hinata wasn't naïve, despite her age: she knew that things change. They did…A few weeks before she was supposed to start at the academy.
Hinata had just been waiting around in the playground for Anko when a group of boys approached her.
"Hey! It's a Hyuga!" One of them shouted.
Hinata turned towards the shouts and saw the children in front of her. "Hello?" She asked, uncertain of the boys' intentions.
"She speaks? I heard the Hyuga heiress was mute." One of them said.
Another one piped up, "I heard she's the failure of the Hyuga clan. She's useless."
"No I'm not!" Hinata defended herself. She'd spent too long thinking those type of things about herself and she wasn't about to let some strangers reinforce those thoughts back into her head.
"Yes you are!" The tallest boy shouted before he pushed her onto the ground.
Hinata wasn't hurt, but she still felt useless. Ninja skills weren't supposed to be used on civilians, so what could she do?
Just as she was starting to stand up, she heard a voice. "Hey! Why don't you pick on someone your own size?"
Hinata looked towards the voice and saw it was a small blonde boy, who looked to be the same age as her.
"Yeah, and what are you going to do?" The same boy who pushed her down asked. "You're just a demon who shouldn't even be allowed in the village."
The blonde boy hesitated. Hinata could see that he was saddened by the other boy's words and she felt angered that someone could say such mean things to a little boy who only wanted to help.
"Just leave her alone." The boy said.
The tall one looked at his friends and then grinned evilly. "Okay, we'll leave her alone and pick on you instead."
Hinata watched as the blonde one agreed, but that just made her even angrier. She felt more worthless than ever as she watched someone else fight her battles for her.
Then do something. A foreign voice in her head told her. She didn't know what drove her to listen to it, but something intense was starting to run through her chakra and she knew that she had to give in.
With a large gasp, Hinata released her chakra and many colours seemed to flash before her eyes. The boys had heard the explosive noise and ran away, but Hinata couldn't move. There was too much chakra running through her system and it was starting to hurt.
She cried out and distantly heard what she thought was Anko's voice before her vision went blank and she drifted off into unconsciousness.
"Wake up, Hinata." An unfamiliar voice coaxed.
Hinata slowly shrugged off her drowsiness and opened her eyes. From her peripheral vision she saw a man with multi-coloured eyes looking at her. She could hear other voices and wanted to be able to see everywhere – and then she could.
Blinking in surprise, Hinata felt her eyes widen. She could see everything, in perfect clarity. She wondered for a moment if she had finally unlocked her byakugan, but dismissed that thought because she'd been taught that the byakugan had a blind spot; whatever this was, it didn't have a blind spot.
"Woah" She whispered to no one in particular.
In addition to her new-found sight, she noticed the other things in the room. If the man in front of her wasn't surprising enough, then the dragons situated all around the seemingly infinite room definitely were.
Hinata was at a loss for words, "Huh?"
"Welcome, Hinata. It is a pleasure to meet you." The strange man greeted.
Hinata looked shocked that the man knew her name, but there were more pressing matters. "Who are you? Where am I?" She asked.
The man laughed at Hinata's curiosity but still obliged to answer her questions. "My name is Sake. You are in the Dragon Kingdom, my dear."
"Sake…The drink?"
"Yes," the man laughed, "my parents loved the beverage so much that they named me after it."
"Oh," Hinata seemed to accept that answer, "what's the dragon kingdom?" She questioned, "And why are your eyes those colours? And why can I see everything?"
"My, my, a curious little one, aren't you? The Dragon Kingdom is the sacred place of the dragons, and my eyes are that colour because I was the previous dragon master."
Seeing that Hinata was about to question him again, Sake decided to explain everything and then let her ask questions afterwards.
"A dragon master is someone who is chosen to carry the blood of the dragons. When one dies, another is born. I died five years ago and my spirit resides here so that I can guide you, although I wasn't expecting you for at least a few more years." Sake paused and allowed everything he had told Hinata so far to sink in.
Hinata nodded to show that she was following what he was saying and so he continued with his rather tedious explanation. "Dragon masters have a special bond with dragons: they can summon them, although they don't require a blood sacrifice. They also have the Muteki no me – invincible eyes."
"Invincible eyes?" Hinata asked.
Sake nodded his head and then pointed to his eyes. "These eyes see many things, can do many things."
Hinata considered this for moment. "Like the byakugan?"
"No, my dear; much more powerful. A previous dragon master's best friend was a hyuga. He was inspired by the Muteki no me and tried for years to create something similar. He accomplished the byakugan, but no one could ever equivalent the power of our true eyes."
"The byakugan is simply one of the 'channels' we can use. There are many; one for every colour in my eyes."
Hinata looked at Sake's eyes and tried to count all of the colours. She couldn't; the colours were swimming in his eyes, moving right as spoke. "What other channels are there?" She asked. All Hinata seemed to be doing was asking questions, but she couldn't help it; there was just so much to learn.
Sake looked at Hinata and his eyes turned red. Instantly Hinata sensed a genjutsu and she watched in wonder as her surroundings changed. She felt the change in her eyes and suddenly the genjutsu looked transparent; like someone had put a clear plastic bag over her head and she could tear it off at any point. Which is exactly what she did. "Genjutsu…How did I do that?" She asked.
Sake laughed at the expression on Hinata's face. "Your eyes reacted before you even knew you were in genjutsu. They spotted it and allowed you to analyse it before you tore it apart. They were a bright red seconds ago, much like mine."
"My eyes look like yours?"
"Very much." Sake lead Hinata to a mirror and she stared at her eyes. The colours that were once hard to spot in her white eyes now dominated them. She blinked. Nope – still there.
Hinata thought her eyes were amazing, but she wondered what she was going to do when she got back to Konoha. "I see you are worried, little one. If it is about the eyes, I can show you how to get your original ones back."
Sake stood behind Hinata in the mirror and closed his eyes. When he opened them, they were a clear blue. He then closed them and the colours once again danced in his eyes.
"How did you do that?"
"Force of mind, my dear. Just will your eyes to go back and they shall. I simply prefer my colourful eyes. However, emotions cause your true eyes to shine. You must be careful as the colours could reveal themselves if you were to lose your temper for example. Such a young age; many would go to great measures for a gift such as yours; you much protect it."
Hinata nodded her head solemnly. "I will be careful." She promised.
Sake smiled at her but a new voice interrupted. "Such a long explanation. Why must you drag things out, Sake? I won't to meet the young one." This feminine voice held adoration, yet there was an unquestionable authority within it."
Hinata turned, but all she saw was the dragons. She jumped when the voice spoke again. "Hello, Hinata."
Hinata knew she wasn't going crazy and that it was the dragon who stood before her that had talked. "Hello?" She asked, slightly intimidated by the dragon.
"I have much to tell you, young mistress. My name is Kurohana and I am the one of the legendary dragons; the dragon of fire."
"Legendary dragon?" Hinata looked around and saw all eyes were on her. "I thought all dragons breathed fire?"
"They do, my dear, but I do more than breathe fire; I create and manipulate it. There are five legendary dragons and they each control an element – earth, air, fire or water."
"Oh"
"Enough of that, though. You are the dragon mistress and can summon us without a blood sacrifice. You have our blood running through your veins and that it is more significant than any blood another person could give."
"Woah"
"It is almost time to go, little one, but you are always welcome here. Before you go, there is someone I would like you to meet."
Hinata looked around but didn't see anyone, until a small dragon stepped out from behind some large ones. "This is Daichi," Kurohana told her, "He is your soul dragon. Every previous dragon master has had one. He is to be your companion and your partner."
Hinata watched as walked up to her. She timidly held her hand out to him and he bend his head in a bow. Hi, Hinata. I have been waiting to meet you for years.
She jumped. His voice was in her head. Hinata didn't know how that was possible. I am your soul dragon; we have a special connection.
You can read my mind? Hinata asked.
No, I just hear what you want me to hear, and vice versa.
Oh…"How do I keep a dragon with me?" She asked.
Hinata didn't get an answer right away. Instead, disappeared and a beautiful amulet appeared on her neck. Like this. I will always be with you, protecting you and giving you advice. Daichi told her.
Awesome! Hinata answered. She couldn't help it; five year olds could only be mature for a certain amount of time.
"Thank you." She said to the dragon before turning to Sake.
"You're welcome, my dear." Sake smiled and held out his hand. "Now, it is really time to go. Remember all we have told you, and do not let the power go to your head. We all have weaknesses, whether they be physical, emotional or mental."
"I will." Hinata promised and she had enough time to clutch her amulet before the dragon kingdom disappeared and darkness engulfed her.
First of I would like to apologise for how long it's been since I've updated. Second, I want to apologise for this chapter.
Every time I read this I was shaking my head in disgust, but I needed to get all of the facts down there so that you guys knew everything. It was a question and answer chapter, which I always hate to read because there is never any real action in them, but sometimes they are necessary.
After the next chapter I'm thinking of doing a time skip to when Hinata is just about to leave the academy. Let me know what you think.
I'm not sure if I've already done this, but I need to thank Iliana for coming up with some really good dragon names.
This one is a little short but it served its purpose and hopefully I won't need to write another chapter like this in a long time.
Anyway, thanks for being so patient and I hope this chapter wasn't that big a disappointment.
See ya later alligators!
