Ruby was hiding, unaware of the advents above her, in the sewers under Alfrid's mansion. She was skimming through Daybreak with her Wind Reading Glasses, which is a magical item that lets the user read in mind boggling speed.

"That's amazing," said Ruby out loud. "I knew this book held some sort of secret."

Suddenly Ruby felt something grab her arms and pinned her down. Ruby looked over her head and saw Alfrid's upper body was sticking out of the wall behind her.

"Well, then please share," said Alfrid squeezing her arms. "Secret's don't make friends you know."

"No way, a man like you doesn't deserve to know what it is," said Ruby gritting her teeth through the pain. "You're an enemy of literature."

"Enemy of literature?" said Alfrid confused. "My massive collection of books and art only proves I'm culture's greatest friend."

"But that ugly maid collection of yours proves you know nothing about beauty," Ruby spat.

"How dare you mock them!" said Alfrid angrily. "They are the very definition of beauty!"

"That's a matter of opinion," said Ruby and Alfrid squeezing her arms even more.

"Just tell me what this book secret's hold!" Alfrid demanded and looked at the book in her hands. "Does it hold the location of Leif Zalson fortune? Tell me or I'll snap your arms like toothpicks."

"Never!" Ruby yelled.

Alfrid got even angrier and pinned her to the floor. "Loss the attitude," he said. "Listen I myself ordered the creation of this book and therefore any secret it holds rightfully belongs to me."

He then began to squeeze her arms again this time with the attempt of breaking them. However, before he could, Toothless appeared out of nowhere and rammed into Alfrid's face freeing Ruby.

"Nice timing Toothless!" Ruby cheered.

"Hiccup thought you could do with some help," said Toothless landing beside her.

"What's this a flying cat?" said Alfrid getting to his feet. "Well, it matters not… I can deal with the two of you on my own."

"We'll see about that," said Ruby pulling out Cancer's key, "after I mop the floor with you."

"Oh… so you're a Celestial Viking," said Alfrid. "But there's no way that you and that cat can defeat me and my Divers Magic!"

Suddenly a magical spell seal appeared behind him and he dug through the ground.

"What's Divers Magic?" Ruby asked.

"It's a form of Earth Magic that allows the user to dig with tremendous speed," Toothless explained. "But I had no idea that fool Alfrid was able to us Magic."

Suddenly Alfrid popped out of the ground trying to grab the book, but Ruby was quite athletic and managed to dodge his attempts. However, Alfrid kept on digging holes in the floor and walls again and again as he tried to grab the book from her.

"Look I know the whole story now!" Ruby yelled after dodging one of Alfrid attempts on the book. "It's a horrible adventure novel about a trashy little character called Lord Alfrid!"

"You can't be serious," said Toothless.

"I don't know I'd call the protagonists trashy," said Alfrid. "But yes!" He then drilled down as voice could be heard through all the holes he made earlier. "The story itself is grand and to think it was written by the great Leif Zalson."

Then he popped out of the ground behind Ruby and try to make another temper the book, but Ruby saw him in the corner of her eye and managed to dodge his attempt. He then jumped into the air and drilled into the ceiling.

"I can't believe your arrogance!" yelled Ruby. "You forced him to write it!"

"Arrogant, me…" said Alfrid, his voice echoing through the tunnels he created. "The work doesn't begin to describe. My story is an honour no matter the circumstances."

"Then why did you have to blackmail him into it?"

"Blackmail?" said Toothless.

"He just needed some extra encouragement to take the job," said Alfrid.

"Oh, really…" said Ruby raising an eyebrow.

"Any fool would want me as a protagonist in their book," said Alfrid. "But he had the nerve to say no. So I gave him a bit of incentive… write the novel or his family would be stripped of their citizenship."

"But—but none of them would be able to join any guild and make a living," said Toothless in disbelief. "You don't have a power to do that."

"I have the power to do anything!" said Alfrid as he suddenly popped out of the ground under their feet. "But I got him to write it didn't I. But I didn't like his attitude… so I decided he do best writing from a prison cell. He went on and on about being a brilliant novelist and not giving in to threats… but in the end I got him!"

He then rolled himself into a ball and kept bouncing on the walls. Ruby and Toothless had a jump around to avoid getting hit.

"I can't believe you go to such lengths to boost your own ego," said Ruby as she narrowly avoided getting hit by Alfrid's attack. "You locked him up for three years don't you realise how hard it was for."

"Three years?" Toothless gasped.

Suddenly Alfrid popped out of the ground in front of them, blocking their path.

"Perhaps it took in that long going to appreciate me," said Alfrid smirked.

"You're wrong!" said Ruby. "More like he couldn't bear to spread your lies. But he had to satisfy your vanity, he knew that if he didn't write your character as a heroic champion justice then his family would suffer."

"Tell me… how do you know all this?" Alfrid asked.

"It's all here in black and white," said Ruby holding out Daybreak.

"What? I've read that book from cover to cover and Leif Zalson isn't in it," said Alfrid confused.

"True… if you read it normally isn't mentioned," Ruby agreed. "But I know something you don't. Long before you as an author he was a Viking."

"What did he do?" Alfrid demanded.

"After he finished the book he gathered all of his remaining strength and cast a spell on it," Ruby explained.

Alfrid clenched his fists. "What a dirty trick," he growled. "He turned a book about a great man like me into a hatch job. The nerve of that fool!"

He then drilled into the ground and continued his attempt on Daybreak only this time he was determined to destroy it. However, Ruby was proving difficult to catch.

"Oh, get over yourself!" Ruby yelled as she dodged him. "It's true that he wrote all the pain and torture you put him through, the chapters that focus on what you did to him are only a small part of the book. In fact the secret has nothing to do with you!"

"So, what's it about?" Toothless asked.

"What do you main?" Alfrid asked puzzled.

"I'm not giving it back to you Lord Alfrid," said Ruby tucking Daybreak in her bag, she then pulled out Cancer's key and pointed it at Alfrid, "because it was never really yours to behind with."

"Open Gate of the Giant Crab! Cancer!"

Suddenly a column of water shot of nowhere. When the column of water vanished, standing there was a strange looking creator. The lower half of its body was that of a crab with six skinny crab legs, the upper half was that of a man expect for the hands which were pincers. His face was that of a handsome man with a pair of sunglasses over his eyes and around his neck was a pendant with the Cancer symbol on it.

"You called, Baby," he said.

"Whoa," said Toothless stunned.

"Cancer, I need you to take this gut out," Ruby ordered.

"You got it, Baby," said Cancer snapping his pincers.

However, Alfrid didn't look at all concerned at all. He was more concerned about the book wondering if the secret was about all his black-market activity. If that book got into the hands of the Viking Council he'd be ruined.

What he did next surprised Ruby and Toothless, Alfrid pulled out a golden Celestial Key. This key's teeth were shaped like a heart and on its handle was the symbol of Virgo.

"Open Gate of the Maiden! Virgo!"

"He's got a Zodiac Key!" Ruby gasped.

"This isn't good," said Toothless.

Suddenly popping out the ground was Virgo, Alfrid's ugly bodyguard.

"Did I hear my master summon me!" she boomed.

"Virgo, fetch me that book," Alfrid ordered, pointing at Ruby's bag.

"Wait, she was a Celestial Spirit all along," said Ruby.

"Never would have thought I had to face Virgo," said Cancer taking a battle stance.

Then they looked up and saw that Virgo had picked up a hitchhiker. It was Hiccup! He was holding on to Virgo for dear life looking confused.

"Hiccup!" Ruby and Toothless gasped.

"What is the meaning of this!?" Alfrid demanded.

"What are you doing up there?" said Ruby.

"Well I saw her getting up… so I jumped on and next minute I find myself here," Hiccup explained.

"So you grab her inside the house…" said Ruby bewildered. "But that means… You must have passed through the spirit gate with her. That's impossible!"

"Never mind that…" said Hiccup avoiding one of Virgo's hands which was trying to grab him, "we got a deal with these guys."

"Good point," said Ruby.

"Virgo, clean out the rubbish!" ordered Alfrid.

"As you wish master," said Virgo pulling out her sword.

Now that he got a better look on the sword, Hiccup saw the Virgo symbol on its hilt. He had little time to admire it, because Virgo was swinging it at him. He barely avoided it, he then took a deep breath.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!" he yelled.

Virgo didn't have any time to dodge and got blown away by Hiccup's attack.

Meanwhile, Ruby had pulled out her whip and swung it at Alfrid. "You dirty little man!" she yelled.

Alfrid tried to dodge, but Cancer had grabbed his arms with his pincers. He could do nothing but get whipped by Ruby. When she was finished, his face was all battered.

"Nice work, said Hiccup. "Looks like this job is a success."

However, before they could celebrate, the entire place shock. They climbed out of the sewer and saw that Alfrid mansion was crumbling.

"I guess all those tunnels that Alfrid made week into the mansions supports," Hiccup surmised.

"I hope we don't get arrested for this," said Ruby in dismay.

An hour later, they returned to Kaby's house, and gave him Daybreak.

"But I requested for this book to be destroyed," said Kaby looking down at it. "Why on Midgard are you handing it back to me completely unscathed?"

"If you really want to burn it… then I would rather do it yourself," said Ruby.

"I most certainly will burn this trash," said Kaby. "I never want to see it again."

"I completely understand why you feel the way you do about this book Kaby," said Ruby. "You want to protect your father's legacy… because you're actually Zalson's son aren't you?"

Hiccup and Toothless gasped.

"Yes… you're correct," said Kaby closing his eyes.

"Have you read it yourself?" Ruby asked.

"No, I… I can never bring myself to read it," said Kaby. "My father told me it was garbage."

"Still… it is the last book your dad wrote," said Hiccup. "I can think of a lot of people who would give up everything for that memory."

"That book cost me and my family great heartache and shame," said Kaby. "It was thirty one years ago… my father had returned from Alfrid's mansion very weakened telling me that he would never write again. I was angry I called and terrible things… things I now regret. A few months that after he died and the anger and betrayal I felt turned to remorse… and now it's too late for me to ask him for forgiveness. So… I decided to make amends by destroying this book… the book caused him so much pain and unhappiness… it is the only way."

He then pulled a match from a box of matches and lit it. "I'm sure this is what he would want."

"You're wrong," said Ruby.

Next moment Daybreak glowed in a blinding light.

"What's happening?" said Kaby shielding his eyes.

"A spell has been placed on this book… by your father… or should I say Zal Melson," Ruby explained.

Then suddenly the words Daybreak rearranged and the book now said Dear Kaby as did the author's name Leif Zalson which now said Zal Melson.

"Dear Kaby," said Kaby reading the title.

"That's right," said Ruby. "This book is his letter to you… disguised by a spell to rearrange all the words and will only wear off if it passed into your hands."

The book opened and all the words shot out flying across the room and began to rearrange so that the book can tell its tale.

Hiccup and Toothless stared in amazement and Ruby smiled. "He never stopped running because he was ashamed," she explained. "He stopped because he had created his masterpiece… a novel containing everything he wanted to say to his beloved son and when you read in the way he intended it's easily his best work ever."

Kaby looked up at the book and tears began to form in his eyes as he watched his father's greatest work come to life. Then the book landed into his hands now contain its true tale.

"Now the spell is been broken you can read it for yourself," said Ruby.

Kaby hugged the book with tears in his eyes. Hiccup smiled and started to walk towards the door.

"Well… I guess we will be collecting that award," he said. Everyone stared at him, except for Toothless, who nodded in agreement. "The job was to destroy the book and since we didn't finish we don't get the award."

"Even so… let me do something," said Kaby.

"Yeah, it's not our fault that he didn't decide to destroy it after we got it back for them," said Ruby.

"We appreciate the offer, but we don't want it," said Hiccup.

"Uh, yes we do," said Ruby staring at Hiccup in disbelief. "I need a pay rent!"

"I think it's time that we all go home…" said Hiccup ignoring Ruby. He then turned his head to face Kaby. "That includes you… Mr Melson."

Kaby and his wife gasped and Ruby just looked at him confused.

Later that night, the three of them were camping in the forest. Hiccup agreed a small fire and was cooking some food.

Ruby looks extremely depressed. "I can't believe it," she muttered. "Those two weren't even rich… I still can't believe that they were renting that house so everyone would think of their rich… I mean it wouldn't have mattered we would take the job anyway."

"I don't know about you," said Toothless.

"Of course I would have!" Ruby yelled.

"You keep telling yourself that," said Toothless taking out a bite of salmon that they cause earlier this evening.

"Mine tell me why we're walking home?" Ruby asked.

"When we don't have enough money to take a carriage back home," said Hiccup.

"We would have retaken the reward," Ruby reminded.

"If we did that it would have looked good," said Hiccup handing her a freshly cooked salmon. "Gotta think about Dragon Tails image."

"By the way… how did you know it wasn't their house?" Ruby asked curiously.

"I've got a super sense of smell and I didn't smell their scent all over the house," Hiccup explained.

"I'm still amazed from reading that book," said Ruby dreamily.

"Got some ideas for writing your own novel?" Hiccup asked slyly. Ruby blushed. "I only got a quick glimpse, but I read enough to know that you're writing your own novel."

"I see…" said Toothless, "that's why she's such a bookworm."

"Promise you won't tell anyone," Ruby begged.

"Why not?" Toothless asked.

"Because I'm a terrible writer and if anyone read my stuff I'd die of embarrassment," said Ruby not looking in the eye.

"That's nothing to be embarrassed about," said Hiccup. "Try being the son of the guild master and turn out to be the weakest in the guild."

Next morning, the three of them were wondering through a swamp that was a shortcut back to Berk. Toothless was sitting upon Hiccup shoulders, while Ruby was curled up inside of Horologium.

"'I don't know about this guys. Are you sure we're going the right way?' she asks," said Horologium translating for Ruby.

"We've been on this root before, is what I answer," Hiccup muttered.

Soon they were out of the swamp and found themselves in a clearing.

"Why don't you do your own walking for a while?" Hiccup asked.

"'Because I'm tired,' she groans exhaustedly," said Horologium.

"Oh, for the love…" Hiccup muttered.

Then some bushes moved and they stopped.

"Who's there?!" Hiccup demanded.

Then Ragnar appeared out of the bush holding his out hand in surrender. "Relax, it's only me," he said.

Soon they were sitting down for lunch.

"So, you're on your way back from a job," said Ruby curiously.

"Yep, there's a shortcut through these woods that get you back to Berk," Ragnar explained.

"What did I tell you," Hiccup smirked.

"Yeah, but if your sense of smell was so good how come you didn't know that Ragnar was right in front of us?" Ruby asked.

Hiccup glared at her. "You really know how to hit a man where it hurts," he muttered.

"Speaking of hitting where it hurts," said Ragnar looking at Hiccup. "I heard that Astrid's coming back to town."

Hiccup suddenly looked up and gulped.

"The Astrid," said Ruby her eyes widened.

"Yeah, the most powerful woman in all of Dragon Tail," said Hiccup looking slightly worried.

"What's wrong with you?" Ruby asked noticing Hiccup change of tone.

"Oh, he has a not so secret crush on her," Ragnar explained.

"Oh…" Ruby smirked eyeing Hiccup. "So what she's like?"

"Scary," Hiccup and Ragnar answered.

"Hot tempered," said Ragnar.

"And deadly," added Hiccup.

Ruby gulped and looked at Hiccup in bewilderment. "And you like her!?"

"Yeah, he kept on say Astrid this and Astrid that," said Toothless.

"Thanks, it's great to know who my friends are," Hiccup muttered.

They all laughed.

"But she can be kind when she wants to be," said Hiccup.

"Yeah," Ragnar added. "The two of us were a team five years ago called Team Asgard." He then looked at Hiccup. "You know… she took your leaving very seriously."

"She did?" said hiccup looking up.

Before Ragnar could speak there was a huge explosion. When he came to, Hiccup saw that Ragnar and Ruby will reign in a daze.

"What was that?" Ragnar asked rubbing his head.

"Hey, where's Toothless?" said Hiccup looking around.

When Toothless opened his eyes he saw that he was tied to a spit and five thugs were looking down at him with their mouths watering.

Two of them look like twins, another one was thin and gloomy looking, the fourth one was large and muscular, but looked as though we had a single-blind cell and last one was short and bold, but was clearly the leader. On their leader's bold head, Toothless could see some kind of tattoo.

"Only some protein," said one of the twins.

"No berries for us tonight," said his twin.

The large thug grunted in agreement.

"I foresee a feast," said the gloomy thug.

"Let's just cook him," said their leader.

The musclebound thug nodded and raised a spear and set it ablaze.

"SOME BODY HELP ME!" Toothless yelled.

"Don't worry, bud!" said Hiccup's voice. Toothless looked up and saw Hiccup, Ragnar and Ruby running into the clearing. "We'll save you."

"Thanks Thor," Toothless sighed with relief.

"You guys are Vikings. What guild are you from?" Ragnar asked.

"I'm not telling," said their leader. He then looked at his comrades. "Get them!"

Without a second thought is for goons charged at them.

"Rag, let's do this," said Hiccup.

"Like all times," Ragnar smiled.

Then the two of them charged at them.

Their leader punched his fist to the ground and the magic circle appeared. "Sand Bomb!"

Before hiccup could do anything he was swallowed by a mountain of sand that mould itself into a ball.

"Hiccup!" Ruby yelled.

"He'll be fine," said Ragnar. "Go rescue Toothless."

"You got it," said Ruby rushing over the Toothless.

The two twins each grab a dagger and charge that Ragnar, but he simply mock them away.

Ruby had reached Toothless and was beginning to untie him.

"Hurry up!" Toothless yelled.

"I'm untying as fast as I can!" Ruby grumbled angrily.

However, the huge thug towered over them raising his spear. Luckily, Ragnar appeared just in time and kicked the thug away with a single kick. He then turned and faced the gloomy Viking, who was holding a staff of crystal ball attached to it.

"Bringing it on," said Ragnar.

However, the gloomy Viking was more interested in crystal ball and his staff than he was to Ragnar.

"I see someone special, but the crystal ball foresees great travel with water and women," he said.

Ragnar just gave him a funny look. "You're telling my fortune now," he said bewildered before elbowing the guy in the face.

"Whoa, he's not using magic," Ruby gasped.

Their leader just stared in disbelief that his men were taken down so easily. "Where did these brats come from?" he growled.

However, he had little time to think on this because his boss and exploded. He turned to look and saw that Hiccup landing in front of him. Before he could do anything, Hiccup slammed his hands together.

"Fire Dragon's plasma blast!"

Hiccup's ball of plasma hit him and caused a small explosion.

Minutes later, the thugs were tied to a tree.

"Just like old times," said Hiccup looking at Ragnar.

"I don't remember you can kicking this much butt in the old days," said Ragnar.

While the two boys were talking, will be approached the thugs.

"Lullaby," their leader whispered.

"Huh, what's Lull?" Ruby asked.

"Lull…aby," he repeated.

Before she could ask more, something knocked them of their feet and then the tree sank into the ground.

"What was that?" Ruby asked.

"Who was that?" Hiccup corrected.

"Well, whoever it was their fast," said Ragnar. "I can't since the present any more."

"But… what could this mean?" said Hiccup.

Ruby, was more concerned about this lullaby and why did it sound so familiar.
