Chapter 4
Phone Call
Regina maneuvered herself slightly so that her legs were on either side of Emma's thighs, making it easier for them to kiss. Emma placed her hands on Regina's waist, while Regina's hands moved up into the blonde's hair.
Their kisses became more passionate and eventually Regina trailed her tongue along Emma's bottom lip, immediately gaining access. Emma hands tightened on Regina's waist and pulled the Mayor closer to her.
Suddenly, the sound of a phone ringing made them break apart quickly. They both looked around for a moment until Regina found that it was her phone on the table that was making noise. She leaned back a bit and grabbed it. She planned to turn it off but when she saw the number she clicked the answer button and got off of Emma, turning her back to her as she did.
"Hi, yes it's me. What's wrong?" Regina asked quickly into the phone, her breathing not yet under control from making out with the Sheriff.
Emma sat in her spot and stared at Regina. She couldn't believe that that had just happened. Emma wasn't sure if it was because they had been drinking or something else but at the moment she couldn't think well enough to come to any conclusion.
"Yes, okay. I'll be over in fifteen minutes. Bye," Regina said and hung up the phone. She turned around to face Emma. "Henry's ill so I'm going to go retrieve him," Regina stated.
The two women looked at each other. Each wanted to say something but neither of them knowing what to say.
"I should go now. It's a ten minute walk to where Henry is staying," Emma nodded her head and stood up. She quickly put her shoes back on and they both made their way to leave.
They walked together in silence and made their way to the sidewalk. Emma's apartment was right while Regina had to turn left. The Mayor opened her mouth to speak but then closed it.
"Have a good night Emma," she said quietly and then turned to leave. Quickly Emma grabbed her arm and made her turn around.
"I'll be at the pier tomorrow night. I'd like it if you came by," Emma said very quickly. She hadn't planned on saying that but when she did it felt right. The blonde released Regina from her grip and let her arm fall back to her side.
Regina nodded before turning around and walking to get Henry.
Emma stood there for a few minutes in shock of the evening that they had spent together and eventually she moved her feet towards the apartment.
…
Emma hadn't gone back to Mary Margaret's apartment after leaving Regina's like she had planned. She knew that she should, so that she could sleep, but her mind was racing with thoughts of Regina.
She wondered if what happened had happened only because of alcohol or if there was something else. She also wondered what would have happened had Henry not called. That was the foremost thought in her mind.
The blonde walked along the town for awhile, contemplating how she and Regina would interact from now on. Would anything change between them? If something did change would it be good or bad?
Emma looked up at the dark sky. She could see the stars, the moon, and clouds that were trying to block the light from the night sky. She couldn't help but smile at the beautiful sky. Having mainly lived in big cities, she never really got to see a sky full of stars, even if some were currently covered by clouds.
The smile stayed on her face as her thoughts went back to Regina. She knew that they were not always on the best of terms, but lately things had changed and Emma was starting to think that she could really like this change.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when she tripped over her own feet. She laughed at herself and realized that all the alcohol was still affecting her motor skills. So Emma walked to the apartment and then quietly, so to not wake up Mary Margaret, she walked into her room and curled up into her blankets.
Tonight, sleep came easily to Emma. A smile on her face as she quickly drifted off to sleep.
…
After picking up Henry, giving him some medicine, and then putting him to bed, Regina had many thoughts and feelings about what had occurred tonight with Emma.
On one hand she was pleased that Emma had eaten and that she was able to get the blonde to talk about what had been bothering her. But on the other hand Regina was beside herself with confusion about why she had divulged information about herself and then kissed Emma.
Regina set about cleaning the wine glasses that she and Emma had used, all the while thinking about them kissing. She could not deny that kissing Emma had been very enjoyable but she wondered why it happened. Had it happened because of alcohol or because of her own desires?
Once the glasses were cleaned and put away, Regina retired to her bedroom and changed for the night. For awhile the Mayor just laid there processing everything that had happened that night, before she too fell asleep with a smile on her face.
…
Emma was tired, hungover, slightly hungry, and was trying to piece everything from the previous night together. Being woken up by music was not how Emma had wanted to start to day. Especially today. She stumbled out of bed, walked down the stairs, and then turned off the radio.
"Oh, Emma. I didn't think you were here. I thought you were at Regina's for the night," her roommate stated curiously. "Did something happen?"
Emma slowly made her way over to the coffee maker and poured herself a cup. Her head hurt slightly from the night before which she concluded was from alcohol and tripping.
"Henry called from his friend's house because he was sick, so I left," the blonde said quietly as she slowly started to sip her coffee.
Mary Margaret eyed her friend suspiciously. She was sure that something happened between the Mayor and Emma.
"So what did you guys do?" she asked.
"We just ate and talked. That's all," Emma lied. She knew that she would end up talking about last nights events with Regina later so she did not really feel like discussing them now. Mary Margaret gave her a disbelieving look. "That's what happened," Emma stated after seeing the look she was getting.
Mary Margaret shrugged her shoulders and decided to let it go. She knew that something had happened and that thought was enough to keep her curiousity satisfied. For now.
After their brief discussion, Mary Margaret headed back to her room and Emma was left alone in the kitchen.
She knew that she and Regina had talked about some personal things and then somehow it ended up in kissing. That was basically what Emma got out of last night. And the fact that she had basically told Regina that she wanted to see her again tonight at the pier.
Emma sighed loudly. She had no idea what was going to happen tonight. Would they pretend it didn't happen? Would they talk about it? Would Regina even show up?
Emma's red jacket was placed on the coffee table by Mary Margaret, making Emma forget her thoughts and focus on her roommate.
"Let's go to Granny's for breakfast. Come on, no complaining," Mary Margaret pushed and quickly had Emma out of the apartment.
"Did we really have to leave?" Emma asked skeptically and wincing slightly at the sun.
"Well, I didn't feel like making breakfast and I'm not going to risk you trying to cook again," the black haired woman said simply as they walked down the street.
"It was one time that the eggs caught on fire. One time!" Emma said as if that should mean that nothing else could possibly happen if she tried to cook again.
Mary Margaret just laughed at her friend as she held open the door for her.
They sat down at a booth, ordered their food, and soon had it in front of them. The diner was busy as usual with lots of conversations going on. Emma's headache hadn't quite disappeared yet so she was inwardly scowling at everyone who was making more noise then necessary.
"So Emma did you want to go see a movie tonight?" Mary Margaret ask after she finished chewing her eggs.
"Uh no, sorry. I'm busy tonight," Emma said quickly before she continued to eat her food.
"What are you doing?"
"I just have plans is all," the blonde said dismissively.
Mary Margaret was about to inquire that the plans were when Emma almost started choking on her food. Emma looked down into her plate and started to use her fork to play with her food. Confused as to what had just changed Emma's demeanor, Mary Margaret turned around and saw that the Mayor had just walked into the diner.
"Aha! I knew it! Something did happen. Spill. Tell me everything," the teacher said, looking excited.
Emma glared at her roommate, kept her mouth shut and would only occasionally look up to see Regina. So far it didn't seem as if Regina had noticed the blonde but one of the times that Emma looked up she and Regina made eye contact.
They both stared at each other for a moment, each unsure of whether to smile at the other or to approach each other in a conversation. At the counter, Ruby snapped Regina out of her gaze and handed her a to-go cup of tea. After paying, Regina swiftly left the diner, only pausing to glance at Emma once more.
As soon as Regina left, Emma got out of her seat and went after her.
"Regina, wait!" Emma called after her. The Mayor stopped walking and turned around. She looked a bit frazzled but Emma barely noticed as she was to nervous. Once Emma was in front of Regina she realized that she wasn't sure of what she had wanted to say so she said the first thing that came to mind. "How's Henry?"
"Henry is feeling fine. He woke up with a large amount of energy so I believe it's safe to say that whatever was affecting him last night has passed," Regina said calmly, trying not to let show that she too was nervous. "Did you get home alright last night?" she inquired.
"Oh, yeah I did. I tripped once and fell but it's fine," Emma answered quickly.
Silence fell between them again. Both had a lot of things that they wanted to say but both weren't quite sure how to word any of it.
"Oh shit, sorry I just sort of left Mary Margaret in there. I should probably go back," Emma said somewhat sadly. "I'll still see you tonight right?" she asked somewhat tentatively.
"Yes, I'll be there. Is 9 o'clock okay?" Regina asked. Emma nodded with a small smile before saying goodbye and walking back into the diner.
Emma made her way back to the booth where Mary Margaret was. When she sat down she was faced with a very smug looking friend.
"So I was right and I expect you to tell me everything," the short haired woman stated happily.
The blonde sighed but began to explain the her friend what had happened last night. She left out the personal stories that they had shared and mainly focused on when they kissed. Several times Mary Margaret tried to interrupt to ask questions but she was always cut off. Eventually she took the hint and just let Emma tell her whatever she wanted to tell her.
"And now you're meeting her tonight to discuss what happened?" she asked.
"I think so. I mean, we didn't outright say that we're to talk about it or whatever but I we probably should," Emma said.
The rest of Emma's day went by somewhat quickly. She was in Mary Margaret's company for most of the day and was only alone once she left the apartment at 8:30 to go meet with Regina.
