Chapter four
The moon was already high in the sky when the first signs of exhaustion took ahold of her. Sakura wiped her brow feeling a bit peeved at getting this mission. Why did she have to go to the middle of nowhere? She would rather go to Konoha. By now Tenten was probably relaxing in a warm bed. Here she was with nothing but the hard ground to sit on. The idea of stopping for the night was very tempting.
What would she find once she got to her destination? The time was close when the village had disbanded its shinobi and turned into a tourist attraction. If she was lucky they would already be in the process of doing it. Then she wouldn't have to deal with other shinobi while searching.
"Ugh, I'm beat." Her shoulders were killing her as well. She stopped to lean against a nearby tree to take a rest. Another hour or so and she'd stop for the night. Maybe start a …campfire? The distant glow could be made out through the bushes. She concentrated on the sounds around her to see if she could hear anything. Was there someone else around here?
As the minutes passed, she stared towards the slight embers. She couldn't hear anything, there was also no sound of movement. Had someone abandoned the fire? She decided to creep closer, just to see who else was out here. If it was someone that posed a threat, she wanted to know. If not, she would just leave quietly and continue on her way. There wouldn't be any harm inspecting who was nearby.
When she was close enough she could see the owner of the camp. The man seemed to be laying upon the ground, on his side, and he wasn't breathing. There was no movement to indicate the rise and fall of his chest. Was he dead? Was the person injured? Sakura looked around but didn't see anyone else. She took a few steps closer, stepping out of the brush.
The person's head suddenly turned on the ground and the mouth opened. She had just enough time to dodge before the many darts lodged in the tree. As she slid, the man jumped to his feet and brandished two blades. The cracking of the jaw drew her attention. It was a fucking puppet and it was coming towards her. She waited until it got close and slammed her fist into the ground. The dirt slammed into the object, enabling her to get behind it. The punch didn't strike where she wanted but her fist made contact with the shoulder.
"Not bad, you must be very skilled to dodge my attack." And to cause damage to his puppet. Sasori spoke down at the woman that had intruded upon his camp. He had smelt her coming and had decided to observe. Had she broken off from the other group? They were only five yards away as well.
Shit! Sakura almost shouted the puppeteer's name seeing him in the flesh. Not encased in Hiruko, but in his real flesh. Standing before her was the shonobi she had helped slay. What were the odds? Why wasn't he hiding behind his puppet? What was he doing this far from Suna? He was also in normal clothing. What the hell should she do? When they had fought in the future, he hadn't recognized her face. To keep it that way she would have to make a quick exit. If she kept the encounter short, he would have no reason to recollect her face. "Look, I don't care who you are, I'm just passing through."
"You mean you were." Did she think he was going to allow her to leave? There was no way she wasn't with the group that was trailing him from Suna. He had ran into one of their trackers two days ago. The fight hadn't been one he could avoid. The shinobi had managed to cause significant damage to his Hiruko. He had stopped to make camp in order to rest. Before heading out, he wanted to do some repairs. There were a few improvements that he had in mind but first he had to fix the damage.
Was he not going to let her pass by? Sakura swore at her luck. She should have kept on running. Now she would have to deal with this stubborn Akatsuki member without killing him or leaving a lasting impression. She sure wouldn't allow him to kill her. He wasn't wearing the robes yet, but that didn't mean anything.
"Thought so." Sasori wondered why she had tried to deny it. Had they sent her in to see if he was still here? The group landed to the right of them, weapons drawn. At this rate, he would have to move camp once the ground was stained with blood.
Great, just what she needed. Sakura couldn't believe this was happening to her. The two shinobi were clearly from Suna and didn't look friendly. Why hadn't she kept walking? She'd blame this on Ino. She wouldn't be so tired if the blonde didn't snore! How was she going to get out of this without drawing attention to herself?
"Kill them both!" The order was given without asking any kind of question. Were they serious? They weren't going to ask who she was or what she was doing there.
One attacked her, swords swinging. Sakura officially believed all Suna shonobi were idiots. The only one with any sense was their Kazekage. Well, clearly in this time frame the current Kage was still stupid and taught his subordinates to be just as narrow-minded. Did she really look like she was with the puppeteer? He had just attacked her, she wasn't his comrade. She managed to knock one wrist aside and grabbed the other. Her fist slammed into the man's face, to make him disappear in a puff of smoke.
Where was he? The clanging of metal echoed directly behind her back. She turned to see that the shinobi had appeared behind her. The sword had been aimed right at her back and had been stopped by a puppet with dark hair. Three more sprang from the ground to stab the shinobi. The twin screams signaled that the fight was over. The other actually fell to the ground and his head rolled further into the woods. Just like that, they had been slain.
Sakura felt her blood go cold at how easily the two had fallen into the trap. The lone puppet had just been there to draw them in. She turned back to the puppeteer, to find him on the ground and staring at her. As well laid out as his plan had been, it hadn't kept him from getting injured. There was a long cut down his chest. She squashed down the guilt knowing she had been the flaw in his trap. He hadn't meant to use any of them to defend another. Why had he done it?
So he had been wrong. Sasori saw the confusion in the large eyes. He should have let her take the blow to the back. If she wasn't with them, why bother him? Or was she really just passing through? He recalled the puppets to reseal them. If there were to be no more distractions tonight, he was going to eat then turn in. He would have to see to his wound as well. The sooner he perfected his technique, he wouldn't have to worry about becoming wounded again. First, he had to fix Hiroku and then make it to the meeting place in time. He was still unsure of joining the organization was what he wanted to do. He would go and then see what they had to offer and what their intentions were.
The fire crackled as he moved the corpses further into the woods. Sakura remained still and was torn between just leaving, or offering to tend to his wound. He had helped when he didn't have to. He was also no longer attacking her. The puppets had been put up. He came back down to sit at the fire.
What was she doing? He didn't care as long as she didn't bother him. Since he didn't sense any more problems nearby, he dug through his bag to retrieve his dinner. The meat had caused the cloth to become damp but the bread hadn't gotten soggy. "Aren't you passing by? If you have something to say, say it. I hate waiting."
"Sorry, I just noticed that you got injured. Since it was on my account, will you allow me to heal it?" It was the least she could do before moving on. Doing so wasn't the wisest course of action but she had a conscious.
"You're a med-nin?" But not one from Suna apparently. What was her affiliation? He couldn't spot anything indicating a village.
"Hai," she placed her bag down. He was at ease and not paying much attention to her. It meant he wasn't worried about her attacking or being much of a threat. Best to keep it that way. She walked over and knelt next to him. He kept eating as she reached forward to lift his shirt. The first thing she noticed was that the container was not present. The core he would soon create wasn't in his body. His face was the same, from what she could tell. If what she knew was correct then he was in his early twenties and he had fled his village around fifteen or sixteen. Not much time had passed yet, so he wouldn't look much different. It also meant that soon he would make his core and become a puppet. What a shame, he had a nice body.
The blood seeping out of the chest was another clue. He was still completely human. Sakura had the urge to tell him that his fleshier version was a lot nicer. The silence was making her uncomfortable, "Um, you're very good with the puppets. Thank you, for interfering on my behalf."
"It was the only logical course of action." They had followed him and weren't originally after her. He wasn't the type to allow a female to get caught up into his battle. Killing her for no reason would have been rude.
She stood once the gash was closed. She was already taking a great risk by remaining. As comforting as the camp looked, she had to press on. The meat also smelt heavenly, but she had to leave.
"There is plenty enough for two." Sasori could hear the slight rumbling of her stomach. Was she going to continue on? She looked ready to pass out from exhaustion. "You are welcome to remain until morning."

Finally, she was here. Ino looked down at the peaceful village. On the outskirts there wasn't much activity. In the distance she could make out the outline of the large building. That was most likely the Mizukage's place. All she really knew about the man was that he was called Yagura. He had also been the one to reinstate the village's graduation slaughter test. Was it still in effect? Sakura had said something about it being stopped again once a single shinobi had taken to killing all of the students.
She would have to tread carefully during the mission. Undercover would be the best way to inspect the situation. She inspected the path leading down to the village and found the perfect target. She didn't sense anyone nearby and her hiding spot should be secure enough. The kunoichi had the headgear to indicate that she belonged.
The transfer went off without any problems. Ino sighed and got use to the feeling. The girl was just short but full-figured. The raven hair was in a long plait down her back. Without wasting a moment, she raced down the path, aiming for the front gates.
"Yumi-san!" The guard was waving in her direction and ran over. Ino assumed that she was supposed to be this Yumi. How well known was the kunoichi? From the feel, the girl wasn't that powerful. There was absolutely no resistance to her mind control. "The Mizukage has requested that you are to report immediately to his office upon your return."
"I'll be going then." Ino wasn't sure what the kunoichi would naturally say. It had to be similar, the guard nodded and let her pass. No one bothered her as she headed in the direction of the largest building. Many people nodded as she passed, no one tried to stop her. The two guards at the double doors bowed and opened them. She had picked the right person to use.
There was no need to be shown the way, they were opening the doors for her, indicating that they were expecting her to answer. Dammit, what if she had to report on a mission? She had no idea why the Mizukage wanted to see the kunoichi. She would just stall long enough to get the lay out of the office.
On the top floor she exited out onto the hallway. She assumed the guard was standing put for a reason. He bowed and knocked on the door before she got to it.
"The Mizukage is expecting you, enter."
She would be happy to. Ino walked inside the door, to have it slam shut behind her. Sitting behind the desk was a little kid! That was the infamous Mizukage? He couldn't be that old. How did he get the position? How strong was he?
"Come here, Yumi." Yagura stood seeing her. He had been concerned when she hadn't returned this morning as expected. She looked whole and didn't appear to be injured. The shyness was still adorable after all this time.
Alright, Ino let her eyes swerve around the office. There was only a desk and a single filing cabinet. Her target was supposed to be located in the large desk. She couldn't go rummaging through it while he was still inside. Once she was close, the Mizukage came around to stand in front of her. Was he the type to strike his shinobi?
The tight mouth crashed over her own. His tongue demanded entrance into her mouth. He left her no choice but to return the kiss. It was vile and she wanted to hurl. She placed her hand on his chest, to pull away. "Mizukage-san."
"How many times must I tell you to call me Yagura while we are alone?" He didn't want to be addressed so formally. "I missed you. Take your clothes off."
Whoa! She hadn't signed up for this. Ino inwardly cringed at the order. When she didn't move fast enough, the mouth kissed a trail down her neck. Once it reached the junction of her neck, the teeth bit down hard. Ouch, the fucker was insane.
"Off! And bend over the desk." He was tired of waiting for it. He had done as she asked and remained faithful while she was away.
"Let me just place my bag down and I'm all yours." Like hell. She couldn't believe that the fourth Mizukage was a freaking pervert. He nodded and looked down to begin undoing his own clothing. She leaned over after removing the bag from her shoulder. It was placed on the floor next to the desk. She made sure he wasn't paying attention and quickly released the jutsu. She was not hanging around for this.
