Chapter 3; Interlude of the Shadows.

A figure stood on a rocky crop overlooking what had just happened below. In hay day the figure was once a beautiful strong woman. Now she was old, time had not been kind to her body, mind, or soul. She watched with vague interest as the five strangers uniting as one group. A new Shane Gang, possibly? She thought to herself. She was cloaked in a dark green hooded robe and covered in silver armor. She leaned against her staff as her favorite slugs perched on the very top.

"What do you two think?" Her ancient voice cracked as she looked at the two slugs, one smiling the other wore a serious look. The smiling one had a bright white slug with an ivory belly it had one big round eye in the center of it's little head with a small slick back crest and antenna. The serious looking one had two arrow like eyes, a black body with a midnight blue belly and six violet dots on its head it's stubby round antenna were held close to it's head. "Yin, Yang?" The two slugs looked at each other then back at her. They both seemed to be confused, and then they gave her as shrug.

The elderly woman reached into a pouch at her side and lifted a slug out. He was black, with little green eyes, he looked like he had a tiny violet nose, his antenna where thicker and slicked back in a U shape that were like horns. "Hello old friend, Whisper, I require you services."

She let the slug jump onto her shoulder and bounced up close to her. "Those who walk in the shadows. I wish to speak to you." She spoke clearly and confident but it waved as she tried not to break into a coifing fit.

Plumes of black mist sprouted around her, the creatures that emerged were tall with elongated arms and legs, but they walked hunch over using both hands and feet to move forward. They were covered in black and gray armor, glowing green accents drew an ominous picture, the back had oval pods that held slugs. Their glowing green eyes where segmented, there faces were more animal like little triangle nose and lip less mouths stuck in a fronting mouths. Their long tails flicked showing a three fingered appendages that ready to grip the waiting slug.

The mob surrounded her and took to their full high, that easily dwarfed her. They spoke together in one voice. "Who are you to call on The Shadow Clan?"

"Me," She hacked. "No one just a curious individual." She answered.

One of the mob seemed to notice her and spoke out of turn. "You are a Slug Master, you promote balance in yourself and others that exist in this world."

"I guess I do." She responded flatly.

Another noticed something else and spoke away from the mob as well. "How is it that you can speak to us with out a Shadow Talker?"

Yet another spoke up, he wore a crown on his head. "You have a Howler Slug, how can that be? They are extinct."

"You think too much like humans," She made a dry laugh. "Just because you don't need them does not mean that they just disappear. They live in the most remote regions of Slugterra," She answered.

"I see, what is your question?"

"You've worked with Will Shane to bring balance? Why haven't you taken out Doctor Black if he is so dangerous?"

"We could ask the same of you?" He shot back.

"We both know why I have not dealt with black." He aged voice cracked.

"We have not because the truth is simple. Down Bellow Darkness Thrives, Up Above Light Shines, But In Slugterra The Shadows Resided." The Mob dropped back into walking stance. "We shall not answer your questions any longer. We shall be going."

In a plum of black mist they all disappeared, leaving the woman alone on the out crop. "Interesting, I must see what they can do. May be they can bring back the balance. I'll see what the old one wants to be first." She turned around and started he way down from the rocky cliff.
