"See you around!" Marcus called, waving goodbye as he went back down the drive. Chase lazily waved back before opening the door, his shoes tracking some dirt as he entered the house.
"Well hello there! Everyone wondered where you went, but obviously they didn't care to stick around," Eddy said, laughing to himself as he appeared on the screen as Chase closed the door. Chase groaned and rubbed his forehead.
"What is it?" he asked grumpily, feeling a headache coming. I have more important things to do, like finding out about my mother…
"Donald and…his wife," Eddy spit wife out like it was a vile thing, "Went out. They didn't really specify where they were going...Not that I care that the witch has stolen my creator…Bree and Leo left too, to go to a friend's house…Or was it two different friends' houses…? Oh well, that can take care of themselves! Oh, and Adam's still here."
"Whatever, now don't you disturb me," Chase mumbled, heading to the elevator. Eddy watched him go, and just as Chase went to open the doors he spoke:
"You seem awful cheerful, maybe I should call Donald and-" Eddy suggested, wanting to get Chase in trouble. Chase huffed and made his way into the elevator, Eddy's voice getting cut off as the doors closed. He tuned out Davenport's singing and stomped into the lab as soon as the elevator stopped at the right level.
Curse that infernal program, why can't Mr. Davenport just get rid of him… Chase let out a heavy breath, trying to relax. I don't need to be worked up…I need to relax to find what I need to…
Chase plopped himself down into Davenport's chair and booted up the computer. It took him some time to find any files that weren't scientific or ego-related (Chase made a silent vow never to open Davenport's picture gallery labeled "Davenport and the Kings" ever again). He scrolled through the databases, looking through the data hidden deep within them, and began to find a trail of heavy firewalls whenever he tried to pull up Davenport's personal information.
How odd…Davenport isn't that secretive, even we are buried that deep…, Chase rubbed his chin in thought, thinking that maybe Dr. Ryan was onto something.
Chase kept began to break these firewalls, numbers flashing as he broke one after the other. He had to slow down when the computer, in some sort of security he missed, nearly wiped out the memory. Chase quickly amended that, but now he was sweating by now, having been at this for nearly an hour now.
How much security did Davenport put on this? I should have broken these firewalls a long time ago. Chase gritted his teeth, determined to find out what was so important Davenport would create such complex firewalls…
Chase, at the second hour mark, finally stopped as he came to a near impenetrable firewall. He moaned in frustration, his human limitations starting to override his bionic capabilities. He laid his head down onto the desk and let the cool metal clear his thoughts.
They've gotten harder and harder…if only I could glimpse inside the virtual world to see their-Of course! Chase sat up quickly, knocking himself backwards and out of the seat. He thought he heard something on the seat break, but he stood up and got back to the computer with his flash drive finger darting out.
Why didn't I do this from the beginning? Chase thought, mentally berating himself. He inserted the flash drive into the hard drive and numbers flashed into his mind; these were the codes of the programming. He looked for any faults in it, because there was no such thing as an unbreakable code.
Let's see here…Ah-ha! Chase smiled as he spotted what he was looking for and he slowly unraveled the code protecting whatever lay behind it. Chase wiped his forehead with his free hand as the computer screen flashed with a huge folder. His eyes widened at the sheer size of it, wondering how Davenport had been able to hide it for this long (and Chase could tell many of these files had been hidden for quite some time). Doesn't matter, I just need…These should do it… He found four documents in the folder that looked promising and copied them onto his flash drive. He tried to undo what he did, but he had so thoroughly taken out the firewalls the computer died. He pulled his finger out, feeling a slight shock to it as it retracted.
Ow! I'll just deal with it later, first I have to do something with what I found…Let's see…They're encrypted, so I'll need to break them…and print them, so then I can hide the data evidence! Chase thought rushing to find a printer in the lamb as he slowly decrypted each file. He found Davenport's printer behind some miscellaneous inventions and, showing aside the devices, slowly printed each one out, the encryption taking longer than he liked to break. Two and a half hours after he first started working to get these files, they were in a neat stack and Chase had covered his data trail. To do so, he completely wiped it from his memory banks and scattered the remains into the data stream.
"Now what are these…," Chase wondered aloud, picking them up. He wanted to be alone, but the house wouldn't offer him that. Anyone could walk in on him, and Chase didn't want to answer the awkward questions that would arise about where he got all of this information and how he even knew to look for it. He hid the papers in the back his shirt, tucking it in to make sure they didn't fall out. Chase went into the elevator carefully and tapped his foot impatiently as it slowly went up. The paper crinkled a little, and he stopped his foot-tapping. Chase had been tempted to just read it and then dispose of it, but knowing Eddy, the creep was watching what he had been doing…and would, or was currently, alerting Davenport about the computer.
Which means I need to do something about him later…, Chase thought as the elevator came to a stop and the doors opened before him. He stepped out quietly, cautiously looking around. Chase gave a small smile when he didn't see anybody and turned to the front door, ready to leave.
"Chase-y! You're back!" Adam bellowed, coming down the stairs two at a time before leaping over the railing. He landed on the sofa with a loud crash.
"Adam…," Chase said, face-palming.
"Davenport can pay for it…Hey, where are you going?" Adam inquired, tilting his head as he stood up and observed his brother.
"Just…another walk," Chase anxiously said, wanting to get out. He shifted from foot to foot as he stood there.
"Oh! Can I go?" Adam hollered with glee, running over to his brother. Chase side-stepped him, but Adam had stopped before he could slam into where his brother had previously been.
"Um…No, but maybe we can hang out later, okay Adan?" Chase suggested instead, rubbing his neck in nervous anticipation.
"Alright…," Adam sullenly said as he turned around and went back upstairs. Chase felt a pang of remorse, but he still turned around and left the house for the second time that day. It was after ten now, though Chase ignored the hunger pangs in his stomach.
Chase walked a mile down the road and came to a nearby wood. It was scheduled to be cut down and more houses were to be built for a neighborhood. Davenport didn't like the idea of this new neighborhood so close, especially since some major construction was going on at the top of the hill closer to their house.
Chase slipped into the woods once he knew that there nobody was around to see him, and he traveled as deep into the woods as he dared. These woods weren't thick, but he didn't want there to be much evidence of his travels in these woods. More dirt clung to his dirty shoes and some twigs fell into his hair, but he simply pulled the papers out from behind him. He was in as a secluded spot as he could find, and now would be the best time as he could figure. The papers made a loud crinkling sound as he removed them and Chase froze, using his sense to pick up whether anyone overhead it. He sat down on an old tree stump once he determined there was no threat for the moment and began to read them.
He wasn't sure what he had been expecting, but they were quite shocking. They all had names; and three of them had a birthdate and three familiar names.
Adam Davenport…Bree Davenport…Chase Davenport… Chase momentarily dropped the documents, now knowing what they were. They were birth certificates! Dr. Ryan had been right, they all had a mother, and Davenport was their father.
So Davenport was married before Tasha, and they…Oh, I don't want that image… Chase shuddered, deciding that he never wanted to view Davenport in that kind of light again. Chase frowned. He had four papers, not just three, so what was the fourth?
Is there another child? Chase wondered, thinking that it wouldn't surprise him. As he read it, he discovered it wasn't another birth certificate, but it was a divorce certificate. Now that explains it…she left us and Davenport covered up his past. Chase suddenly found his senses dulling and images began to swarm into his mind.
A much smaller Chase giggled as he bounced a red ball. He kept making it bounce higher in the white room and it rolled near a blue crib. Chase crawled over to the ball, giggling in delight. As his chubby hands reached for the ball, he heard a very loud noise. The floors were hard and a little cold, but he didn't mind it.
"No! You already took my wife, and it was my decision to make them the way they are now!" a man shouted and something shattered with a loud crash on the lower floor. Chase began to whimper, tears rolling down his face. The voices were very loud and they hurt, not to mention that the yelling was frightening.
"I don't care, I will get want I want…I will have what is rightfully mine!" another man shouted, and there was a dull thud before a door slammed downstairs. Chase curled up on the floor, crying as he became frightened that someone was coming to hurt him. He heard footsteps coming up the stairs and the door opening. He curled up tighter as his sobs became audible.
"It's alright…Come here Chase…," a man said, scooping up the little boy. Chase buried his face into the man's ruffled shirt and bawled, soaking the shirt through.
Chase blinked his eyes rapidly and shook his head, knocking some of the twigs from his hair, as he tried to regain his senses. What was that? He wondered to himself. He thought vaguely that he recognized the voices, but he couldn't recall who they might be at this time. Chase stuck the documents back up his shirt, on his side this time, and began making his way home.
Chase knew he would have to eventually confront Davenport about this if he wanted to know more, because he still didn't understand how Dr. Ryan fit into all of this and why there had been so many lies. If Chase could know where his mother was, then maybe he could get better answers than what Davenport would be willing to provide.
A/N: Hello again my readers, reviewers, followers, and favoriters (and yes, favoriters is not a word, Word told me so)! So…I hope I portrayed a young child well enough, and for those anxious for an update in Mind Blown, don't worry, I shall migrate back to that project as I complete another chapter for this. Now please review and…have a good day!
