"Elkie! I have nothing to wear!" I shouted out to my friend who was in the bathroom. Within an instant she was in my room beside me, she had no shame and all the confidence in the world hence why she was only in her underwear when she entered my room. "Nice," was all I said eyeing off the black lacy coordinated pair.
"Thanks," she smiled before walking over and rummaging through my bag, the truth was I hadn't bought anything overly fancy. I didn't think I would need it. I honestly didn't know what I would be doing while back here other than trying to find Klaus. She pulled out a nice pair of dark denim jeans and a dark red peplum top. "I have some shoes you can borrow to go with the outfit," she stated turning to smile at me before speeding off back to the bathroom where she was busy with hair and make-up.
I stepped out of my black shorts and danced my way into my jeans, before pulling the shirt over my head turning and looking at myself in the mirror. It was a small mirror so I wasn't able to see the whole outfit but the top was pretty at least. I entered the bathroom shimming up next to Elkie as I began my make up routine.
"Right are you ready yet Caroline?" Elkie called up to me, I was still in the bathroom looking over my reflection. My stomach was in knots and the urge to back out was so strong inside me that it wasn't until Elkie was back in the bathroom and dragging my out by my wrist.
"Elkie I'm not sure about this."
"Caroline everything is going to be fine, stop stressing please. We can leave whenever you want but you have to at least make an appearance. Especially because Matt had gone to all this effort to get your friends together the least you can do is make an effort."
Elkie had a point so I simply nodded my head before getting into the car and the two of us headed to the Grill where I was going to see everyone again. The car ride was quiet I didn't know what to talk about my mind was racing with thoughts so much so that I hadn't realised we had pulled up until there was rapid knocking at my window.
"Caroline!"
"Bonnie!" I squealed quickly opening my door and wrapping my arms around my best friend I held her close tears welling in my eyes at the sudden overwhelming feeling of joy. I felt another pair of arms wrap around me and I knew it was Elena. It felt nice to have them around me again. We stood holding each other for minutes before I broke it.
"Girls this is Elkie, she is a friend of mine."
"Hi," the girls greeted together. Elkie nodded her head and greeted back. Elena and Caroline pulled me into The Grill instantly I was hit with a feeling of familiarity.
"Hey Blondie," Damon walked over a smirk spread across his face. I rolled my eyes before saying hi. Tyler and Stefan walked up each of them giving me a hug and welcoming me back. Matt was over at the bar getting us all a round of drinks, looking at the amount of glasses I knew he was going to struggle getting them over to us however within an instant Elkie was over there with him helping him out. The two struck up a conversation and within moments they were laughing together.
"First rounds up!" Matt called as he began to distribute the glasses around.
"I'll get the next one," Elkie stated smiling widely as she handed me a glass and one to Stefan who was still standing beside me. "Hello there, I'm Elkie," she introduced herself her eyes flicking over to mine.
"Oh shoot sorry, yes! Stefan this is my friend Elkie, Elkie this is Stefan."
"Ah yes, the much talked about Salvatore brother how do you do?" Elkie held out her hand in greeting.
"Uhh… yeah, hi I am well thank you, yourself?" Stefan took her hand and shook it gently.
"I am well thank you, feeling a little exhausted from the busy day but hey I'll get over it. Mystic Falls sure seems like a great place," I watched Elkie as her eyes trailed over to Matt who was over near Tyler the two were talking. "Anyway…" her attention snapped back to the two of us. "How long have you been in Mystic Falls Stefan?"
"A long time."
"Vague, but okay," Stefan laughed before speaking.
"And you? I detect an accent."
"She's from Australia," I pipped in.
"Originally from London though, however I haven't been back there for almost… wow… one hundred and forty two years."
"So you're…"
"Yes Mister Salvatore I am a vampire and a convict."
"A convict?" both Stefan and I questioned which in turn caused my dark haired friend to laugh.
"You never told me that!" I almost cried, there was a whole other side to my friend that I didn't know about. I was shocked.
"You never asked about my history Caroline, plus I didn't really want to bore you with the details," she said rather dismissively.
I was definitely be asking her about it tonight that was for sure.
"Right I am going to leave you two alone to talk, I am sure there is so much you want to catch up on," with that she gave me a wink before walking off heading straight toward Matt. She was hopeless.
Stefan and I stood in silence for a little while, to be honest I wasn't sure how to break it. Was I supposed to splutter out everything, why I left where I had been. I didn't know what to do? I wanted to know if they were mad at me. The nervous feeling inside me was back and my stomach had began to tie itself in knots again.
"I know why you left Caroline," the suddenness of his words caused me to look at him. "Klaus told me," my mouth fell agape, I went to speak but Stefan shook his head.
"I'm so sorry… I didn't want to leave Stefan… but…"
"Caroline it's okay, I understand. Klaus told me everything… I know why you left and I understand completely," how was he being so calm about this how was he not wanting to rip my head off or at least shout at me. "He wanted to protect you, and he did it in the only way he knew how."
"I didn't want to go… but…" the male in front of me shook his head, "For the past two years I have felt nothing but shame. Knowing that I had left all my friends to fight Alaric and not knowing if…"
"We are all fine, However. Klaus not so much."
"What do you mean?" I was suddenly curious as to what he was trying to say.
"I… I will tell you later, not here, not when you have just got back. You need to enjoy your night. All your friends together." I stretched a smile across my face and looked around the room at everyone. I was both surprised and happy that they had come. My light eyes danced over everyone seeing how happy they all were.
"I really need to thank Matt for this,"
"I think Matt is a little tied up at the moment," Stefan laughed as the two of us looked at Elkie and him deep in a conversation laughing at one and other. I couldn't help but laugh. As I stood watching the two I saw Bonnie walk over to the duke box and within minutes music was leaking from the speakers.
It was a fast upbeat tune and the witch ran over to me grabbing my arm and pulling me onto the dance floor.
"Come on Caroline! Let's dance the night away," as much as I wanted to talk to her to utter a thousand apologies I knew now was not the time and instead I followed her out onto the floor and began to dance to the beat. It didn't take long before everyone was on the floor dancing, singing, laughing and enjoying each others company.
Tomorrow would be a new day.
