Chapter 4: Star
To Mickey's surprise the papers were pictures. They were all of a girl around Jesse's age. The girl had big, puppy dog, crystal blue eyes, and knee length, dirty blond hair. Her smile made her look like she had never and would never be sad a day in her life.
The girl was leaning on Jesse, who was looking up at the camera in specie, smiling an extremely impressive smile. She seemed to be very close to both Jesse, and whoever was taking the picture. In the picture she was dressed in light blue dress with a white ribbon around her stomach, that tied in a bow in the back. She had on plain, blue, sandals, a star necklace, and a light blue ribbon, that held her knee length, blond, hair, up in a pony tail.
Who was this girl? How did she bring out this other side of Jesse? In the pictures Jesse didn't look anything like the shy and timid boy that Mickey had brought back to the castle. Now that Mickey thought about it there was something magical looking about the girl. Even in pictures you could see it.
"What are you doing?" A voice snapped pulling Mickey out of his thoughts.
Mickey turned just in time to see Jesse snatch the picture out of his hands and shoot an angry glare at him. Well the closest thing to an angry glare Jesse could muster. Mickey didn't let the glare bother him because the blush on Jesse's face let him know that the boy was more embarrassed than angry.
"Sorry about that. I came to bring you dinner and I saw the picture laying there." Mickey explained before he remembered the food he had brought. He quickly handed the tray to Jesse with a smile on his face.
Jesse looked at the food suspiciously for a moment, and Mickey couldn't hide his disappointment when he realized that Jesse thought that the food might be poisoned. Mickey had thought he was making progress with Jesse, but right now it didn't seem like he had gotten anywhere with the boy.
"Come on buddy. The food's fine. Really! Here, look." Mickey said before tarring a little bit of the sandwich of and eating it himself.
A small smile made it's way onto Jesse's face before he began to eat the food he had been given. The food happened to be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an apple, a small bowl of soup, and some milk. It was an odd assortment of food, but Jesse figured the reason behind it was the fact that Mickey didn't know what kind of food he liked. When he finally finished eating he looked at Mickey, who was now sitting next to him on the bed shyly.
"Thanks for the food sir." Jesse thanked.
"It's not problem, but please just call me Mickey. Sir gets pretty old after a wile. So…are you going to tell me about your little girlfriend?" Mickey asked, and he couldn't hide his laughter when he saw Jesse's face turn red.
"She's not my girlfriend! That's Destiny! She's just a really good friend of mine. We grew up together." Jesse replied with a small smile on his face.
Mickey looked at the boy with sympathy in his eyes. It must be hard being away from home and everyone one love; especially at such a young age. He remembered when he first went to study under Yen Sid and how much he had missed all of his friends. Mickey gave a small sigh and stood up.
"Well you better get go sleep. Your lessons start tomorrow." Mickey said before leaving the room and heading to his own.
Jesse watched his new teacher leave before laying back down on his bed and falling to sleep. Maybe, just maybe this place would be different and he'd be happy here. Maybe he could trust Mickey.
…maybe…
