Sorry about the delay everyone, and I am also very sorry about the font. I will fix it at some point, until then however, enjoy chapter 4 of Don't Break Away. Feel free to send me a private message about any editing you think should be made, or that I missed. I take constructive criticism seriously. I am currently finishing up my second term at college, and things are starting to get hectic, and I've started a new job which doesn't help the chaos. Hopefully when spring break starts, I'll be able to finish my edits, and Blade and I will finish the story completely. Until then, Thanks for reading, don't forget to review, I need something to show my co-author after all.

Chapter 4

"This is what your life means..." the older voice whispered and faded. Yuki's vision blurred, she could barely hear the voice of a man beside her, calling her name.

'Zero?' she barely comprehended. The blood in her veins was hot, reaching a boiling point. The pressure in her head became unbearable, and blood surrounded her. 'What's happening?' she wondered silently, slowly swaying, rocking herself back and forth, back and forth. The voices were there, a child, terrified and alone, and a woman, angry and condescending. "No." she spoke that single word like a mantra to herself, and wasn't sure if she said it out loud or not. She didn't know if she was even real. She felt like she was slowly losing herself.

The blood that surrounded Yuki, it overwhelmed her senses. She could smell it, she could taste it, she could feel something within her ripping it's way out, something crawling through her core wanting a release, and she pushed it back as hard as she could. But Yuki knew, that after today, nothing would ever be the same.

Zero crouched down next to her, shaking her slight and shivering frame. "Yuki!" His voice sounded worried as he clutched at her forearms tightly. "Snap out of it!" He didn't know what to do, he continued to shake her gently, calling her name, hoping beyond hope that she would respond.

Yuki couldn't hear anything over the sound of the two voices battling for her attention, the pressure in her head was getting too strong for her to handle. She slumped over unconscious.

"Yuki!" Zero caught her in his arms and held her protectively. "Please be okay..." he whispered and picked her up to carry her to his room, closing the door behind him, he sighed and laid her gently on his bed.

Not much later, a knock sounded at his door, and Zero responded with an irritated growl, "Who is it and what do you want?!" he snapped.

"Hanabusa Aido! I was sent here by Kaname to come and get Yuki!" the annoying blond said from the other side of the door.

"Nnn..." Yuki began to stir. "So much blood..." She whispered. "It's everywhere..."

Zero narrowed his eye's. "She's not in a state to go see him, she's fainted. Leave." Aido entered anyway.

"Sorry, no can do" Aido said and went to her pick her up, but Zero quickly had Bloody Rose to Aido's head. Aido swallowed nervously.

"Z...ero..." Yuki mumbled from behind him. She sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes. "My head hurts...what happened?" She asked softly.

"You went into a state of shock or something. You were muttering about blood..." he said, and he moved to her side, Bloody Rose still focused on Aido, who stood, frozen in place.

"Yuki will you come with me? Lord Kaname summoned me to come and bring you to the head master's office for a talk, it's important." he said with a firm tone.

Zero Narrows his eyes with hate. the gun in a tight hold and pointed straight toward Aido's head. "Get out of my room Hanabusa.." He warned.

"It's ok Zero." Yuki placates. "I'll go with him. I'll...see you after?" Zero nods and Yuki crawls out of the bed, standing unsteadily at first, and follows Aido at a slower pace. "Aido..." Yuki hesitates, "Do you know what it is Kaname wishes to discuss with me?"

"I have no idea, Yuki Cross. Neither is it my business to. If it were my business Lord Kaname would have clued me in sooner." Aido says in his snarky voice.

"Oh..." Yuki stares down at her feet, slowing to a halt. Aido turned to glance at her. "It's just that...It seems that Kaname knows something...about my past that I can't remember. And...the Headmaster also seems to know, and knows that Kaname knows, and neither thought to tell me. It's scary not knowing who you are, or where you came from." Yuki's eyes filled with tears. "And there's two voices in my head battling for dominance, one tells me that I should feel ashamed for going against who I was, and not even knowing who my parents were...And the other is just a child, me as a child, repeating the experience with the bad vampire over and over. I just...I need to know Aido..." Yuki starts rubbing at her eyes feeling foolish. "Why would Kaname keep this from me for this long?!"

"Hey everything's going to be just fine. I promise." he said, looking back at her. "Lord Kaname will tell you some day. It might even be why I'm taking you to the master's office at the moment. So don't worry," he said with a soft smile to make her feel better.

"Aido..." Yuki says bewildered. "You aren't usually this nice to me...Thank you." Yuki started walking again, a little shaky still, but soon she caught up with Aido. It didn't feel as awkward to her as it had originally, but when she blinked she thought she saw a hint of blood every where she looked. She ignored it the best she could, knowing it wasn't possible. Aido would have commented. She never brought her hallucinations up to Zero or anyone else. Why would she mention them to Aido?

Aido and Yuki soon arrived at the headmaster's office where Aido knocked then entered the room. Kaname and the headmaster were waiting just inside. The headmaster sitting at his desk with Kaname sitting across from him in one of the other chairs.

"Headmaster, Kaname." Yuki bows slightly. "You called for me?

"Yes" Kaname said and stood. "Hanabusa leave." he ordered. Aido nodded and left.

"We need to talk about your Past Yuki" Kaname said and The headmaster looked down at his folded hands.

"Look. Kaname, I don't care if it's good or bad...I just need to know...I'm sorry I've been...childish about everything, and I know that I've put the Headmaster on the spot about this but...Kaname...I just...have to know. You've known all of this for 10 years? But you never told me." Yuki looks down. "I always told myself that if you ever betrayed me...I'd be ok with it. But...This...10 years of secrets feels like a betrayal Kaname and...It isn't ok like I had originally believed... I can't stay in the dark anymore Kaname!"

"Yuki." Kaname said smiling softly. "I have no intention of keeping you in the dark about anything any longer."

"You don't?"

"No, Yuki. So, if you would please sit?" Kaname gestured towards a cushioned chair across from the headmaster's desk, right next to his. She did as asked and watched him expectantly.

"As you know, I found you 10 years ago. But that was not our only meeting." Kaname began. "10 years ago the Kuran family was attacked by another pure blood vampire and his servants. My father was murdered that night, he died fighting to protect his wife, his son, and...what no one else knows about...his only daughter."

Yuki looked at Kaname with disbelief. "What does this have to do with my past?" she whispered, realization dawning on her.

"My mother, Juri, gave her own life to cast a spell on her 5 year old daughter. The pure blood Princess. The spell was intended to seal her vampiric nature away. " Kaname gave Yuki a very pointed look. "This spell could never last forever, it would fade over time. But, it would be unpredictable. If the spell is not removed properly, and allowed to fade on it's own, the vampire in the Princess will literally tear it's way through her and destroy her mind. The thirst, and overwhelming senses will tear at her mind."

"Kaname...Wha-"

"Yuki. You are the pure blood Princess Kuran." Yuki felt uneasy. The hallucinations...the pull towards Kaname, the acceptance of vampires...Everything, it made sense to her. And now everything the Headmaster had said earlier made sense. Zero Kiryuu was going to hate her.

"Now, comes the real question Yuki." Kaname stood and knelt in front of her. "Will you allow me to change you?"

"Why do you make it sound like I have a choice? It's either I let you change me, or the spell changes me by force and I lose my mind. Either way...I'm going to be the one thing Zero despises..." Yuki was in tears. She didn't know what to do, but she knew that unless she allowed Kaname to change her, she wouldn't ever be Yuki again.

The headmaster looked down in sadness. "I'm sorry that we never told you. But I hope that you now understand..this is why we never told you..and Zero has no clue about whats to come. But once the spell is broken, you will never be that same Yuki ever again. and Zero..." He went quiet as he thought of how the silver haired hunter would react to this

"Zero will hate me." Yuki whispered in understanding. "What will happen to me if I don't change?"

"I wouldn't advice letting the spell break naturally, Yuki." Kaname said irritably. "Don't allow yourself to be torn apart on his behalf. He isn't worth your time." Kaname almost sneered. For a moment, Yuki saw a side of Kaname she wasn't familiar with.

"With all due respect, Lord Kaname. Zero and I have been close for the last four years. He is important to me, and I love him greatly. He is worth much more than letting myself be torn apart. He is worth DYING over if that is what it takes. So don't say things like that in my presence." Yuki demanded. Kaname had never seen Yuki so confrontational. She was defensive, sure. That was just a part of her charm. She defended those she cared about until the very end. But never had she fought for someone to him. She usually seethed silently, not wanting to upset him. Something has changed between Kiryuu and Yuki, and Kaname wasn't sure he liked it.

The headmaster listened to Yuki and nodded. "I'm sorry to say but Yuki does have a point...but at the same time...Yuki doesn't need to be torn apart..." He sighed as he contemplated different ideas, none seemed an option.

In the meantime, Zero was on the grounds waiting for Yuki to be done with her meeting. Patrolling needed to be finished for the night, despite the delays, and Zero wasn't fond of doing it on his own. Yuki's words about blood, and her fainting weighed heavily on his mind.
