Cat Fancy

Chapter 6

The next morning, Izaya woke up to a fresh new day and grinned as he stretched, prepared to see what was in store for him. Especially after his little encounter with Shizuo the day before and the offer he made that he would be sure to exploit in the long run. "Maybe I should go and mess with dear Shizu-chan now~" he said to himself as he got up and went to take care of his morning routine before heading out the door with a piece of toast. At the same time, Shizuo had woken up for the day but the idea of going out was less than pleasant to him. With the fact he just offer his home for solace when the flea needed it just rubbed him the wrong way but even for a flea like him, he just couldn't think to risk him being capture to fight in an underground ring.

Sure, the other may be cunning enough to escape on his own after jerking a few chains but even so, the people running are just as crooked as the matches they make and he wouldn't doubt for a second that someone like Izaya being in their ranks would mean placing him in the highest security facility and rid him of anything that could aid in his escape. 'I'll be damned...could this forbidden feeling that I dare never to admit to be the reason I could treat that flea like a damn human...' he wondered to himself as he continued with his morning rituals, carton of coffee milk in hand. 'No, it just can't be...it must be the cat in him. That's all...the moment he loses those, he's my eternal enemy once more...' he thought, finishing the milk and crushing the carton in hand as he grabbed his cell right on cue as Tom called to tell him he was at his door.

'But...what if it isn't...'

It was close to midday when Izaya arrived into Ikebukuro, watching from a street corner as people came and went across streets, into buildings and chatting with friends in the middle of the mass traffic of people. He hummed a bit, sharp eyes glancing back and forth for any signs of anyone that could possibly be a threat, even his dear Shizu-chan who offered solace into his home from those that were out to capture him. He sighed, stretching languidly before moving from the corner he rested on and began to walk with a leisured gait. Couple steps later, he heard the roar of Shooter and chuckled as he looked off to the side, seeing Celty rolled by to a stop to see him.

"Ah, dear courier. How good to see you. Did your landlord find something for me yet?" he questioned as he watched her critically. She shook her head, bringing out her PDA and wrote something to him before showing it.

[He's still working on something. Just continue to do what you are doing without risking yourself and he'll have something soon enough.]

He chuckled softly but nodded. "Ah, but Celty, you know risky seems to be my middle name. I am being hunted down as of now but we'll see how the course of things go as we see what the dear fighting doll will do when my life becomes threatened." he said before walking off once more. If she had eyes, she would blink at Izaya's words but shrugged and drove off once more.

Izaya continued to walk, humming some off tune song to himself before seeing his three favorite people and grinned as he sauntered over. "Mikado-kun, how good to see you~" he greeted, placing a hand on the other's shoulder, making him yelp as he was tugged back from the group to land beside Izaya. Masaomi and Anri jumped at the appearance of the other and Masaomi groaned once more. "What do you want here, Izaya?" he questioned, crossing his arms. "Why to chat with some of my favorite people in all of Ikebukuro." Anri had shifted a little to his presence, Saika stirring but not making herself too known to the dismal air that hung about the informant. "Well we have somewhere to be so we don't have time to chat." Masaomi spoke as he went to tug the other two away. Izaya hummed before sharp eyes glanced to Mikado.

"Mikado-kun...your expert help is desired..."

Flinching, the other had turned but when he did, Izaya had already slipped away like a specter. Masaomi's eyes narrowed at the reaction and wondered just what agreement the two had that he didn't know of.

In the seedy underground Ikebukuro was famous for, a world separate from the above where people who were still oblivious to the unknown except for what they can claim to see from Shizuo's monstrous strength, Izaya's cunning or Celty's mystery, there laid a group. A group well known for its gambling circuit and the one who was in charge a small factor to the fighting ring's manager.

"So, you come to me with a request...Hope you're willing to pay." The woman before him spoke, tight black dress accentuating her voluminous form, her hair messy but proper. The bag was tossed onto the counter and she grabbed it, peeking inside and smiled. "There's that and more if you bring me who I'm looking for. Word on the street is that you knew him well enough so seeing him in broad daylight shouldn't be hard for you. The materials are in this case along with a number should you run out." he spoke as he slid over a picture and an attaché case. The woman took the picture and eyes falling upon the familiar face, they narrowed.

"Him...oh how I do remember him..."

Crumbling the picture in hand, she glanced back to the man. "Amphisbaena is at your service. We'll turn him into you but in return, aside from the money, you make him suffer in the ring." The man smirked and nodded as he stood. "You have my word. Good day to you, Earthworm." With a flourish, he left the hall and brought out his phone. Nothing from his tabs caused him to grunt before tucking it away and began on his way. There was one last group he need to make use of with a hefty bribe before he was off to comb for more information.

He wouldn't escape him long and with his lack of support, it wouldn't take long before he was caught. "Everything will end soon, Izaya."

After dealing with another debt that tried to skirt from him and Tom, the other had decided to treat them to some sushi as his treat. When they entered, it didn't take long for Dennis to whip up a platter of their usual selection and Simon to bring it over to their table. Since it was only the two of them, Shizuo was able to unwind a little and let his thoughts clear from work as well as the business he unintentionally rolled himself into. He still didn't know what he was going to do about his pest problem but when he figured out something, he'll be happy when it's over. He wasn't going to dig himself deep. He refused to.

Izaya wasn't a romantic in any sense of the word. He rather keep his growing, one sided affections as they were and not be made a fool of once he wasn't needed anymore. Shizuo groaned in annoyance, catching Tom's attention. "Everything alright there?" he questioned in concern. Shizuo blinked before nodding. "Yeah, yeah. Over thinking again." he muttered as he took a long swig of his milk, setting the glass down on the table. They continued to eat their meal in peace, ignoring the sound of the chime alerting the entry of another person. "Welcome, Mikado. You want sushi today?"

"Yes, a small platter please."

Shizuo dared to glance up when the smaller teen walked past him and over to a table. A table with a very familiar figure sitting there. "Good to see you made it, Mikado-kun. Hopefully I didn't make Masaomi-kun mad at me for stealing you away." Izaya spoke. "He's a little mad but he'll understand...hopefully." Mikado murmured. "So why did you call me here for?"

"...yes I'm quite curious of that myself." A voice chimed, a hand slamming onto the table and made Mikado jump as he looked up to Shizuo. "Shizuo! I didn't know you were here!"

"I did~ I was curious of how long it would've taken him to realize I was here." Izaya said charmingly before looking back to Mikado. "I want the service of the Dollars. I'm sure my little adversary is going to use some mean underhanded help to get to me and I can already fathom a guess who they will be. I want you to dig up what you can on Amphisbaena and Heaven's Slave." he spoke.

"Why those two specifically?" Mikado questioned. Shizuo's eyes narrowed. "I know why. One of those bullshit groups you started up in high school for your own pleasure, wasn't it?" Shizuo pointed out and Izaya laughed. "I see you paid attention, but yes. They were harmless fun to give me something to occupy my time during high school and college. One a gambling ring and another a drug cartel. Those two had some picky people that decided to continue on my work to build their own pleasant little place in our little town." he began as he sat back.

"If I know the little mouse that is trying to catch the cat," He gave a chuckle at his own joke. "He'll use those two to search for me since they know my face better. I couldn't possibly waste my resources to look for them myself but I'm sure the precious little leader can rally a few tidbits." Mikado hummed softly as Shizuo gritted his teeth. He shouldn't get attached. He wasn't getting attached...at least that's what he's trying to convince himself. "I'll do what I can, Izaya-san."

"Wonderful!" he said, Simon bringing over a plate of sushi for Mikado before leaving them to their devices. Izaya took a piece of fatty tuna off his own plate and ate it happily. "I knew I can count on you, Mikado-kun." he said with a sharp grin and Mikado nodded. "Well this is the most behaved you've been so I believe I can handle it." Shizuo was about to get in a word edgewise until Tom called out to him and he turned to see the other was ready to go. He cursed before turning his gaze back to Izaya whose catlike gaze stated right back at him. "Need something, Shizu-chan?" he questioned, grinning still.

"You...I'll deal with you later." he grumbled as he stepped away, ignoring the confused glance sent his way by Mikado and went to meet back with Tom who too questioned out of confusion and a small hint of concern of why he didn't react as he usually would when Izaya was only mere feet away from him. He shrugged it off and told him things will be back to normal fairly soon although he doubted his own words.

In another part of town, the man appeared at the small hideout that belonged to Heaven's Slave. He knocked a coded knock that he received from his source and when the door opened, it revealed a bespectacled kid that couldn't be more than in his late 20s. "What do you want...and how did you know how to get here?" he mumbled. "A carefully selected source told me. Now I have a proposition for you." he spoke, holding up a bag of money and another attaché case. The male was skeptical but soon slid the door open further to let him in. He bowed slightly as he stepped inside to see the other members, a few bent over a table of boiling vials and beakers. "Now what is this proposition?" The younger spoke. He set the case on the table and the money at his feet.

"You remember an Izaya Orihara, don't you?"

The dark look to cross the younger's face was nothing short of scary. "I do...we were in a little experiment drug club back in college...then the little bastard decided to leave when it got boring...but I took over the name and the drug to use for my own purposes." he said. "Good, then you know well of his face and more than likely seen him flitting about town." he said before kicking the bag over to him. The younger bent down to take the bag and opened it, eyes gleaming when he saw the hefty sum inside.

"You see, I run an underground fighting ring. While he of all people would never interest me on his own despite what he does on a near daily basis with our resident strong man...there are some "changes" so to speak that he had underwent. Those changes would make my business soar just for the sight of him fighting his hardest. But as we all know, he's elusive and crafty. So I'm hiring you to capture him with the materials inside this attaché case. If you run out, there is a special number to call for more. Also there is double that amount should you come back successful."

The younger one grinned before closing the bag. "We'll get him." he spoke and the man smirked. "Good on you." he whispered before turning on his heel and headed back for the door. "Oh...and I must warn you that I have another after him too. You can either work together or be rivals. In the end, the first to bring Izaya to me will get the doubled reward money. So do work well to either beat or man arms with Amphisbaena." he finished before slipping out the door and the other blinked before growling. Another boy came up to the first and tapped his shoulder. "So what are we doing, Shijima?" Shijima was quiet before turning to the small group that now focused on him.

"We're going to get to Orihara first. If you come across Amphisbaena, deal with them accordingly. I want that cash."

They all nodded to his words and the lure was set. For both groups, they had their eyes set on Izaya and while he was prepared, he was none the wiser of what was awaiting for him the next day.

Zypher: ...good god there is no excuse of the time it took to finally crank out this chapter. Most of it was the falling interest of DRRR! after the first season was done and over with. I had followed the light novels to a point then dropped them. Thankfully, we're back in tune with Durarara x2Ten which gives me the material to get back to a reasonable ending from whatever the dumb younger version of me had planned for this story. So this story is getting picked back up with a renewed plot and ending and more Shizu torture. You'll figure out your feelings soon, Shizu-chan~
