Ch. 6

The Strange Girl

Haruka and Michiru watched the young boy fuss over the girl on the ground before the rose bush, but she didn't heed his calls. Only when he bent down and laid a hand on her shoulder did she snap out of whatever shock she was in, her head falling back heavily. The sight of her dark earthly eyes and curling bangs, even the ears that poked out from under the hat on her head, reminded the two startlingly of Mamoru, if he had had a sister.

The two had been getting ready to leave after Aoi had fallen asleep listening to Michiru's melodic music. Michiru was kind enough to offer the sickly lady her service, after hearing that a famed violin teacher and one she herself had very briefly studded with before her own career, Michiru could not deny the call to sooth her lost soul. However, as the two were getting ready to leave, a startled plea for help from one of the many kids helping to tend to the chores pushed them into immediate action. Years of being senshi had ingrained in them the need to help when called, even if the two were more notoriously known for holding back.

"What am I?" The girl asked pleadingly, not paying attention to her bleeding leg, no doubt cut by the shears so carelessly dropped, then her head lolled forward and she passed out.

"Riku!" The boy called, he bent down and picked her, not sure what to do.

"Ko," The old man hobbled over on old legs, "calm down and see to her leg, I'll go get the car and we'll take her to the hospital."

"Daichi-san," Haruka spoke up standing closer to the small group, impressively boyish in her green shirt and jeans, a tall handsome woman with a husky voice, "Let us drive her, it won't be a problem. You're car is in need of a brake repair and I'd rather not risk people getting hurt should something happen." Haruka had checked on his car the last time she and Michiru visited.

"Oh…" He seemed shocked by her kindness for a stranger, eyes wide and owlish in his old face. "Yes, Haruka-kun… thank you!"

"Hold still, Ko-san, right?" Michiru asked, taking the first aid kit from the girl who had run inside, she walked over to them. "Let me wrap the cut, it looks like it needs stiches, but this will hold her for now."

"Why'd she p-pass out?" He questioned worriedly.

"It was probably just the sun," Harkua assured him with a hand on his shoulder, "or she's anemic, maybe she didn't have a good breakfast, but she should be fine." Haruka smiled a rather impish grin.

"There we go." Michiru had cleaned the wound and wrapped a thick white bandage around her calf. "That seems about right, right Haruka-kun? I tried to follow Ami's advice, but I'm afraid I put it on to tight." She confessed, twirling a strand of blue hair.

"Better tight than bleeding out." Haruka said, leading Ko to her red sports car parked in the driveway. "Come on Ko, let's get her to the hospital."

The boy followed on led feet, staring only at the young girl in his arms. "We'll call you Daichi when we get there and keep you updated." Briefly, Haruka gazed at the children and young teens who had gathered at the frantic cry, about fifteen of them in total. "Stay here so Daichi can keep you updated about your friend." They gave an affirmative response with firm nods.

With everyone seated and buckled, Haruka jumped into the driver's seat and sped off at high speeds, maneuvering as only a racecar driver can through the busy streets. Or a reckless youth high on speed.

"She's never fainted before." Ko whispered numbly. "Is that normal?"

"Is she afraid of blood?" Michiru asked, more to keep him calm than for actual conversation. He gave a graveled chuckle, shoulders relaxing.

"No, she's not the type to faint at blood." He grinned secretly, and Haruka, looking at the seemingly tomboy girl, could already imagine the trouble the girl got into. Trouble she herself got into and still did on occasion and trouble that followed around Makoto still based on their natures.

Haruka gazed at the girl again, remembering her muttered words before her untimely collapse. "What am I?" It was something to ponder, especially after the burst of power that felt warm and comfortable, reminding her of a long forgotten home that wanted her back. It was strong, but untamed and chaotic, a large burst of power quickly dispersing when the wielder could not control it. No doubt, it had come from her, pale like she was right now, labored breathing, and it had nothing to do with a cut or heat stroke. That was the look of someone who collapsed after using too much power, she had seen it before of the faces of her fellow senshi, especially her princess.

Michiru's deep teal eyes gaze caught Haruka's own sky eyes. They nodded in a silent language developed from years of friendship and partnership. They would keep an eye on this girl. It wasn't that it was uncommon for people to have a form of ESP of other abilities and sometimes it could even be very powerful. It was just safe, that if someone seemed to awaken to a power around the senshi, and definitely a power as strong as the girl in the backseat, to keep an eye on her should she be an enemy or the victim of a new disaster. If she proved she wasn't, then they would just leave her be.

"The hospitals around the corner Haruka-kun." Michiru warned the speeding girl.

Haruka laugh joyfully, tilting her head back to further enjoy the wind "Yeah, I'm on it."

"Well um, well, you're not gonna kill us are you?" The boy, now that he had calmed down, was growing pale at the high speeds.

"Don't worry, I don't crash my babies." Haruka teased with a smirk, eyes shining.

"Y-yeah. Good to know man. I mean…ugh…" He mumbled. Michiru grinned knowingly at Haruka who rolled her eyes good-naturedly.

Haruka parked her car into an empty lot a little distance away so that those with more major emergencies could get in quicker. "Here," She hoped out and grabbed the girl from Ko's stiff arms, "I'll run her inside first, I'm faster. Meet you in there."

The blond ran fast, actually worried about the young girls shivering body and burning skin. Was this some the side effect of her own powers? Haruka was a little surprised at the sudden protective instinct she felt over the girl, one she only felt for her princess, as if wanting to coddle a child, but knowing that falling down would be good for them.

When she rushed through the open doors, she wasn't really all that shocked that both Ami and Mamoru were there to greet her. Mamoru was starting something akin to an internship, working part time at the hospitals from desk to assistant, he was a quick learner and compassionate, something that threw him years above many. Ami was also shadowing, learning for the sake of learning, she would also skip ahead at her rate quickly catching up to Mamoru and the playing field between the two would even out in the years to come.

"Haruka-kun?" Ami questioned, gazing at the girl in surprise.

"She just needs stiches, but I think she was sick before that because she's running a fever." Haruka shot them a familiar gaze, one they recognized in her serious blue eyes as 'this-may-be-senshi-business."

Mamoru waved a hand calling for a stretcher, his face draining of color even as his expression remained serious. It appeared that the two already knew the girl in her arms.

"Riku." He mouthed, before the stretch arrived.
