Ch. 6 - Too Marvelous For Words
The next day, James woke up and Annie was already gone. He had a painful headache, as he slowly got up. Fox came closer to greet him as James walked towards the shower. It was Friday and James couldn't feel more relieved to have a couple of days to rest. He got out of the bathroom and got his uniform. Before he started dressing up, James took a good look at his image through the mirror. The burn from Logan's cigarette was still on his chest. He shook his head and started to put his clothes on.
"I hope today will be just another normal day at the station." James said to himself, knowing that after his encounter with the Alligator, nothing should be considered normal.

Carlos wondered through the station, avoiding to face Kendall. After their second night together, the Latino was afraid to fall into the detective's speech for them to meet again. So, he went to his and James' office to digitalize some of the files while he waited for his partner to arrive. Then he heard a softly knock on the door. He prayed that it wasn't Kendall, but it could be something important.
"Come in." He said and, surprisingly, it was Annie. "Hey, hum… James' not here yet, but if you want to wait here."
"Actually I came here to ask you something." She said and sat down in front of Carlos. The Hispanic officer grabbed one donut before she asked. "Does James have someone else?"
Carlos choked with his donut after hearing her question. Immediately after her words, he remembered James confessing him he had slept with the Alligator more than once. He didn't want to be the cause of their breaking up, for he knew their relationship was one of the longest he'd ever known.
"No! Don't be silly. James is a correct man. He would never cheat on you. He loves you." Carlos said but by the look in her eyes, he knew she didn't believe him.
"Thanks Carlos. That was all I wanted to know." Annie said before standing up. "I know James have someone. He may deny it, but it's written all over his face."
"Annie, just… give time to time. James may be confused right now but, he cares about you." Carlos advised her, hoping that James could solve that problem.
"Don't worry. I'm not mad at him. It was inevitable. We stayed far from each other and it was enough for James to find someone new. I see you later Carlos." She said before hugging him. Right then Kendall entered the room and smiled at the scene. "Hey Kendall."
"Good to see you again Annie." Kendall said watching her walk out of the room. He looked at Carlos and smirked. "Do I get a hug too?"

After one simple day at the station, giving charges and doing some office job, James, Carlos, Kendall and Gustavo went over to James' place for their night of poker. They went through the building door and James had to talk to Mrs. Lane before going to his apartment with the other guys. He rang the doorbell and waited for her to answer.
"James? It's good to see you again. What brings you here?" She asked confused to see him standing at her doorstep.
"Good evening Mrs. Lane. I wanted to talk with you about the rent. I won't be able to…" James started saying but she interrupted him.
"Oh, don't you worry about that. That lovely young man came here earlier and paid the next six months of your rental in cash." She said and his eyes widened in surprise. Logan. "He left a couple of hours ago. We had an amazing time drinking tea and talking about my younger days."
"Thanks Mrs. Lane. I'll see you later." James said and he couldn't be more shocked. The other guys didn't understand it either, but Kendall and Carlos were busy with each other while Gustavo just wanted to start gambling. They walked upstairs and James got his key to open the door. "Don't mind the mess. I haven't had enough time to clean it yet."
As they walked inside, they could only gasp in surprise. The apartment was neat and had a whole new decoration. His old couch, his dirty carpet, and damaged furniture were replaced with stylish ones. James looked to the kitchen which had new cupboards, refrigerator and utensils.
"Wow… If this is your mess, I don't wanna see this place cleaned." Kendall pointed out and looking everything he would never be able to afford. Even Fox had a new bed and toys.
"Let's cut off with these jokes. You are just afraid. You all know I'm going to kick your asses." Gustavo said going to the table followed by Kendall and Carlos. James was still shocked and what got him back to reality was his new telephone ringing. He answered it, thinking it could be Annie since he hadn't heard of her the whole day.
"Hello?"
"Enjoying your new home sweet home?"
"What do you want?"
"Nothing really. You satisfy me enough whenever I want it."
"And I thought you were a good guy. I don't want anything bought with public money."
"Hmm, officer. Can't wait for you to teach me a lesson tonight with all this rage."

And with that he hung up. He went back to his friends, trying to distract himself with a good game.

"Aw, man! This is the fourth time I lose." Carlos whined as Kendall won the game.
"Don't worry Carlitos. You can pay me with kisses." Kendall said coming closer to the Latino who avoided the detective to come any closer with his hands.
"I'd rather pay it with money." He answered and Gustavo could see James wasn't as excited as the other times when they played poker.
"Hey dog, everything alright? You didn't speak a word since that phone call." The sheriff asked as James came out of his own thoughts.
"I'm just a little worried. I haven't heard of Annie since yesterday so…" James said and Carlos eyes widened. He was the only one who saw her and decided to stay quiet.
"You said Annie? Funny, I saw her today on Carlos' office hugging him." Kendall said and James felt his blood boiling.
"What?!" The officer stood up angry as Carlos trembled in fear.
"It's not like that dude. She wanted an advice so I gave her." Carlos explained as he hid behind Kendall. What stopped James from doing anything was the door being unlocked and Annie coming inside.
"Hey… hum, James can we talk please?" She asked as the boys looked to each other and stood up, going out of the apartment and leaving James alone with Annie. "Before you say anything. I needed a second opinion. I left early so I could catch Carlos before you were there at the station. It's hard for me to say it, but… I think we should break up. Don't get me wrong. I just can't stand sharing you."
"Annie, I don't have anybody! I love you, you know that." James said hugging her. She wrapped her arms around him and caressed his back. "Please don't go. Not again."
"James, don't make it harder for both of us. I saw the marks on your body. I love you to and that's why I'll be there for you when it ends." She said pulling away from his body. "Bye James…"
She opened the door and walked out without even looking back. James closed the door behind her as he leaned his head against the wood. How could he let her slip form his fingers that easy? They planned to get married, build a life together, and have kids. Everything seemed perfect until…
"Well, that was a heartbreaking scene." James heard that familiar voice and when he looked back, he could see Logan sitting on the sofa with Fox laying its head on his lap as he softly petted him. James was surprised to see his dog so calm with a stranger. "Want to talk about it?"
"You! You made her break up with me! God, if I haven't met you, she'd still be here." James said passing his hand through his hair. He was so mad with himself for not be able to fix his relationship.
"Don't feel so sad." Logan said as he kept running his hand on Fox's soft fur. James' pet seemed to be enjoying Logan's touch as much as the pretty officer did. "I don't mind sharing you at all. In fact, I was thinking about calling her for a threesome one of these days…"
"That's it! I want you out of my life right now!" James yelled at the top of his lungs as he stepped forward and grabbed Logan's arm in other to banish him from his sight. But before he could do so, Fox growled loudly and barked a few times at his owner's actions. He quickly loosened his grip and let go of Logan, surprised to see his dog growl at him like this for the first time. "Fox…"
"Someone wants me to stay." Logan commented as the little animal came back to its peaceful state. "We had a real good time when I came here earlier. At least he's thankful. And before you start your moral speech about principles and bla, bla, bla… I bought this with my own money."
"I don't want your money." James said dryly, having his pride speaking for himself at that time.
"I know you don't, but I also know you need it." Logan said before standing up, Fox silently doing the same and following the Alligator's steps as he walked up to James. "The same way you need me more than want me."
"I love Annie." The officer said that sentence much more to himself than to avoid Logan to come closer.
"Oh yeah? Now tell me officer, does she kiss like I kiss you." Logan asked as he let his lips touch James' ones, as they slowly started to let their feelings take control. James suddenly started to hear the tango in his mind. Fox sat and watched them kiss while its tail swung from side to side. James arms instinctively wrapped around Logan's waist and pulled him closer. The young cop's tongue invaded the Alligator's mouth exploring that delicious cavern furiously. Logan wanted to play with James a little, so he pulled back. "Does it feel the same when she calls your name?"

"How do you know that? That's only in police reports." James said curious for Logan to have that information.
"Officer Diamond, I'm the Alligator. I know people." Logan confessed smiling. "And if you wanna get these guys, you gotta start investigating the security of the airport."
"Why's that?" James wondered trying to follow Logan's line of thought.
"Don't be silly. A crime inside the airport and nobody of the security knows anything about it. It's clear they had help from someone who works there." Logan said and James felt a snap calling him to reality.
"Of course! I should have guessed since it started. My God!" James then stood up with Logan's legs around his waist. "Someone deserves a reward."
"I expect it to be a big one." Logan said as James carried him to the bed. H tossed the Alligator upon the mattress as he stood at the end of the bed. "C'mon officer, let me hold your gun."
"Patience." James said simply and started to unbutton his shirt. Logan watched as the pretty boy slowly took it off and threw it over his spectator. Then his hands moved to the belt around his waist. He ripped it off his body and held it like a whip. "Suck me or things will get really bad for you."
