Chapter Five
Strangers and Probelms
Kagome was shaking as her attacker continued to hold their hand over her mouth. Her heart pounded loudly in her ears. Fear washed over her as the seconds of what was to come next slowly ticked by. She wanted to scream out for Inuyasha to come and save her, but she couldn't. Closing her eyes again tightly, hoping whoever it was would lose interest, she prayed that it would all be over and they would leave her alone. The sound of her heartbeat thudding hard against her rib cage was the only-
"Kagome!" she heard her name from a very familiar voice. Wait, she knew that voice. Snapping her eyes open, what she saw was not what she was expecting.
Standing there before her was big brown eyes filled with concern, pieces of brown hair framed the beautiful face. But Kagome was pissed. "Whath the heeth Sungo?" she asked muffled by her best friend's hand. Her best friend! Who grabbed her and pulled her into an alley way and covered her mouth to scare the living hell out of her!
"What?" Sango asked confused as to what she said. It was only when Kagome huffed and looked down at her hand still covering her mouth, then Sango realized what. "Oh. Oops, sorry." she removed her hand quickly and received a full on death glare from the raven, though she did deserve it.
"What the hell?" Kagome yelled, making the brunette cringe. "Mind explaining to me why you attacked me like that?" Kagome crossed her arms, still glaring Death at the girl. Oh, she was pissed.
"Sorry, but someone was stalking you." Sango answered quickly.
"Oh, and that someone being you?" Kagome huffed.
Sango shook her head. "No, I just happened to be walking by when I noticed some creep following you." she explained and Kagome saw the genuine concern in her eyes.
Eyes softening a bit, Kagome knew that Sango would never lie to her and was only protecting her. "Well, you didn't need to cover my mouth and pull me into the alley like that." Kagome said a little softer.
Sango sheepishly looked down. "Sorry about that. I just acted on instinct."
"Well," Sango looked up. "thanks a million." Kagome smiled and hugged the brunette. Sango returned the hug and the two stayed that way for a moment. Once the moment was over, they pulled apart and Kagome cleared her throat. "Well, is it safe for me to go home now?" Sango peered out the alley and checked for signs for the creep, but found none. When Sango nodded her head yes, Kagome fixed her dress and hugged her friend again. Walking out of the alley and into the busy street, the girl turned to head home.
As Kagome disappeared in the crowd, Sango heard the sound of footsteps approach her. Without looking, she spoke. "That was too close, Suikotsu." she glared up to the innocent looking man.
Suikotsu looked down to her and grinned. "You can't protect her forever." he turned and walked back down the alley.
Sango ignored the man and sighed. No, not forever, but long enough from those demons. She just didn't know what Kagome was doing over on the other side, but she hoped she wasn't in some kind of danger. Sango slipped into the flowing crowd and walked back to her home. This was going to be a problem.
The second Kagome entered her house, her cellphone went off making her jump some. "H-hello?" She asked nervously. After what just happened in the alley way, could you blame her?
"Kagome?" Inuyasha's voice rang through the speaker, her heart calming yet racing. "What happened?" He asked. Now it wasn't odd for him to call after they saw each other, to make sure the other was safe after crossing.
"Huh? Oh...um I was just startled by my friend in the alley way after leaving." She took calming breaths and started to walk upstairs, never noticing who was in the kitchen.
"Everything okay?" To Inuyasha it sounded more than her being startled.
Kagome shut the door behind her and leaned her back against it. Was everything okay? No, not after that odd feeling that she was being followed, and not by Sango. "I feel..." she bit her lip.
"You feel what?" Inuyasha pressed on. Sick? Could she be sick or something else?
Kagome slid down the door and pulled her knees up to her chest, resting her head on them. Taking a breath she finally said, "I feel as if someone is following me."
Inuyasha paused for a second on the other line. "What do you mean?"
Kagome sighed, "I dont know. I just get this feeling that someone is following me to and from the barrier. And right when I left, my friend Sango practically jumped me in the alley way saying that some creep was behind me." Kagome bit her lip again. "Do you think that is normal?" It had to be normal right? People get jumped and mugged of all sorts where she lives, so prehaps this was one of those times.
But if it was...then why that alarm bell keep going off telling her that it wasn't.
"I don't think it was..." Inuyasha's calm voice snapped the last bit of what if thoughts and she slumped even more to the ground. Great. So who-
Beep Beep.
Kagome looked at her phone to see she was getting a call from Sango. "Hey, let me call you back. I'm getting another call." Kagome told Inuyasha before she switched the call over. "Yeah?"
"Are you sure that she has been going to the barrier?" An older version of Kagome sat at the table across from her younger sister.
"Yes, her power has been more radiate for the past week." The burnette explained. She had always known that her daughter is a miko like her father and aunt Kikiyo, so of course she would know when her powers would soon take shape, but she didn't expect them to start so soon.
"The average age a miko gets their power is sixteen, sometimes in rare cases there are late bloomers. Never has there been a case of a miko getting their ablities at the age of fifteen or sooner." Kikiyo pondered out loud. How very odd this was for her neice. It had to be the barrier effecting her powers like this, but only if...no.
Kikiyo looked into her sister's worried brown eyes with equal. She couldn't be...could she?
Izayoi paced back and forth in the living room. Her son had just returned before dark like he has done everyday for the past week. She was beyond worried with him. At first she thought nothing of the day he was setting up a pinic date, glad that he was now taking a liking to some half demon or demon girl, vise-versa. But when she over heard something about the barrier did she start to get worried. For fifteen years she has done her damnest to keep that horrible day a secret from her son...so did many others that had witnessed it.
Blood spilled and splatted on the earth from every wound as she watched with fearful eyes on her beloved. He glared at the man across from him and all she could do was uselessly watch the gory fight.
Izayoi shook off the memory. No, she needed to think clearly or she just might ruin the bond between mother and son. Picking up her phone, she dialed a number she knew oh so well and listened to the rings. On the third ring a old, gruff voice answered. "Hello?"
"I need you to do something for me. Come over around nine tomorrow and I'll explain the details." Izayoi quickly explained and awaited the reply.
The man on the other line quickly agreed and they hung up. Please don't let this be happening. She sliently prayed to whoever was listening.
