Once he was back inside number four Petunia had told him to get on with his chores. After they had gotten back from his first trip to Diagon Alley Petunia had told Harry that the spare bedroom was now his. Harry suspected it was because the Dursley's were frightened of the letter knew he slept under the stairs, he had gladly moved his few belongings into his new room before she could change her mind.

Harry had read and read, doing his best to memorise all he read and sometimes even trying to do what the books taught, so when he read that it was possible for those with control over their magic could bring forth a visible aura Harry wanted to try it, however Vernon had strict rules over what could and couldn't be done in the house, he had taken Harry aside and told him "You are to be the best at this freak school you hear me? I don't want to see you again for at least 9 months and I promise you if you get sent home for misbehaving or failing your lessons I will lock in that cupboard for the rest of your life!"

Another time he had told Harry "There is to be no magic within the house, I don't want to hear it, see it or feel it!"
"But what about the magic I need to do for homework?" Harry had asked "I will need to use magic for my school work"

"Hmm, you do raise a good point, for once. As I said you are to stay ahead in your lessons and I suppose that would include homework they set you over the summer… Very well there is to be no magic within sight of me, Petunia and especially Dudley! It is to be kept within your room with the curtains and door shut and anytime we have guests over you are to hide it all you hear me?"

Turning back to his book Harry thought 'I can't make an aura as I'm sure people will see it, I might be able to make my magic visible somewhere smaller though like in my hand' He concentrated on his magic and moved it into his hand and kept it there, he had never thought to do anything like this before and was excited to see if it would work, sure enough his hand began glowing brighter and brighter till it hurt Harry's eyes to look directly at it, when he looked in his mirror he saw his hand was glowing in there as well.

Normally mirrors didn't reflect his magical sight and he assumed it was because he wasn't actually seeing magic like one sees light, his magic simply recognised other magical sources and visualised them for him in a way he could understand. He didn't always have the ability, it was only after he started channeling magic through his body that his magical sight had began developing.

Turning back to his glowing hand he imagingined the magic leaving his hand to solidify above it in a perfect sphere, just the right size for him to close his hand around it. Sure enough his magic began leaking out of his hand and condensed above his hand, more and more kept coming out of his hand and he started feeling magically drained, like he had been practising magic all day long without rest, used to such feelings from his chores he pushed past the feeling and soon held a ball made of pure magic in his hand about the size of a tennis ball.

It felt weightless but otherwise acted like any other ball, Harry passed it from hand to hand without issue, he then tried to bounce it off his wardrobe and while it did bounce back into his hand it left a scorch mark on the wood, when he looked at it closer he saw it had burned at least a centimetre into the wood.

Harry decided against playing around with his magic after that and fell asleep due to being exhausted from the magic, as he was sleeping he didn't notice his ball of magic slowly turn into a shiny metal, if he had been awake to see it he would have said it looked as if the ball was freezing over, he would have said it had cooled from his magic no longer sustaining its energy.

The next morning Harry awoke with a headache which stayed with him as he prepared breakfast meaning he did not notice the ball so after he had finished cooking breakfast he returned to his room and was shocked to see a ball of solid metal laying on the floor, where it touched the carpet there was a burn mark. Harry briefly wondered where it had come from before remembering the ball of magic he had made the night before, he had assumed it would have dissipated overnight like normally but the metal ball was almost exactly the same size as the ball of magic, although when he picked up the metal ball he judged the magic version one to be a tad bigger.

Deciding to experiment Harry followed exactly what he did the night before but this time rather than a ball he imagined a small cube on his palm, once it had formed Harry stopped feeding it magic and almost immediately metal sheen started spreading from the top of the cube furthest from his palm started to spread over the cube and lost its blinding light, it reminded Harry of ice forming on water in the winter, when he fed the cube his magic again the metal retreated and the cube began to glow again.

Harry looked at the sphere and decided he wanted to change it, he looked at the cube and imagined it becoming taller and becoming rounder, forming a cylinder, his magic rushed over the cube and when it pulled back he held exactly what he wanted, he also gave the top of the cube a slight dip which was the curve as the sphere underneath. Next he turned to the sphere from the night before and held it in his other hand, gently he put the sphere onto the stand he had just made.

Harry fed the sphere some of his magic and where the cylinder and sphere met they started glowing and the two pieces of metal merged so that they had become one object, when Harry stopped feeding it his magic the metal spread like frost from the top down like before but continued from the sphere onto the stand, when Harry looked it over there was no seem between sphere and stand, it looked as if the object he had made was forged as one, nobody would have guessed the two parts were formed almost twelve hours apart.

Harry wanted to experiment some more but his magic was screaming at him as this new power he had learnt drained his magic like nothing he had ever done before, so he put the object on his chest of draws and put it out of mind as he read over his books, eventually falling asleep once more as his magic tried to recover from the workout it had been put through.

During the night Harry's wand started twitching, it missed his master's magic as it had not been used since it was bought three days previously, it sent out invisible feelers, these would be invisible to all but the most experienced in magic if anyone had been around to witness it, the feelers found its master's energy and tried to pull the magic towards itself, but as the magic was so much denser than itself the wand rolled across the chest of drawers where Harry had left it and stuck to the source of the magic.

When Harry woke up the next morning he was amazed to find his wand stuck to the metal ball, he remembered how Ollivander had told him that his wand might be attracted to his magic and as the metal glowed with the exact same inner colour as himself he assumed his wand mistook his orb for him. Deciding to have some fun Harry picked up his wand and thought about his magic going into the orb, almost immediately the orb lit up and he made a groove appear at the top of the orb, big enough for his wand to sit in it with room either side so he could take it out again.

Harry laughed as his wand seemed to sing to him when he placed it in its new home and went on with his day, doing chores and revising his magic books, despite having so much more to learn he progressed slowly as he was constantly tired from experimenting with his new metal making powers, he spent all of his free time creating and changing and eventually destroying metal objects although he left his wand holder alone, he quickly learned despite creating the metal leaving him incredibly tired repetitive use of his magic seemed to allow him to last longer, likewise when he reversed his power, turning the metal into magic and absorbing it he felt rejuvenated.

Far away in the northern mountains of Scotland a wizened old man sat behind his desk deep in thought, he had just received a letter from his old friend Garric Ollivander. He had been having a very pleasant day and he always enjoyed talking with Garric, however as he read the letter his good mood left, to learn that the wand best suited for Harry was most likely the very wand Tom Riddle was given was unsettling to say the least, Garric had also expressed a concern over how Harry's visit to the wand store was remarkably similar to Tom's visit.

After Tom's descent into the dark arts, Garric had agreed to inform Albus whenever he had a customer he considered troubled, in Albus' mind it was this early warning that had allowed him to save many students such as Severus, so he set about ensuring Harry would likewise be saved.

Another concern Albus had, one he viewed as even more pressing was that the Holly wand had denied Harry, one only had to read between the lines of history books to realise every "prophesied" hero had a Holly wand, did this mean Harry wasn't the subject of the prophecy then? He made a mental note to ask Garric if Mr Longbottom had a Holly wand as he could be the only other subject…

This chapter is one of the most important for now as it is my way of trying to explain some of Harry's powers, I currently place him about as powerful as the average second year and while in some areas he will surpass his classmates in other areas he will be behind his classmates.

On another note I will be extremely busy next week which is why this chapter is coming out today rather than tomorrow so I am doubtful if I will be able to get the next chapter finished for next week so you may have to go without a chapter...
