Chapter Six: Memories and Questions

Disclaimer: I don't own Devil May Cry or any of its characters. They belong to their rightful owners and are property of Capcom. I do however own the story line, bite me!

Author's Notes: I can have a million things to say but I will save them for the end of the chapter. Just read and enjoy! Kay!

Dante stared at the demon that he had just slain, wondering why the demons were attacking so brazenly on an island that was the gate to the Underworld. "It's not normal." he stated in a curious tone. "Why are they so brazen when we just got here? Wouldn't they, I don't know, want to study our methods and trace our steps carefully before trying to attack? Are they so hungry for weak human flesh that they are attacking in broad daylight and with no strategy plan?"

Lady and Trish stared at Dante with puzzled looks on their faces. "Dante," Lady began. "Why are you questioning what their motives are? Or even what they are up to?" She approached Dante and stared him in the eye. "They're demons. They prey on human minds, souls and flesh when they are at their weakest. They don't make strategies unless they are higher up in the food chain. They just attack when the hunger hits." Trish nodded her head in agreement, adding "They are not like you or me or even Mundus for that matter. They are the brainless and stupid. Besides, a son of Sparda has been reborn as a full fledged human and completely vulnerable. What else do you think is going to happen in a situation like this? He is on a quest to retrieve the power and blood he has lost. It is an offensive against us, the hunters, to stop us from achieving the objective of this mission. Stay alert and stay focused."

In the shadows, someone or something watches the hunters through a mirror. "That she-demon is too smart. She has a perfect idea of what we want but the other son of Sparda is far more valuable than even she thinks. The master wants him alive and in one piece, hopefully as a human."

Nero had successfully lead the human members of their group to the ghetto, a village that was protecting humans who have been exposed to demons in the past and wanted to fight. The Hunters Society was based here, protected by man enchantments set forth by Sparda and his wife Eva. It also happened to be the birthplace of the sons of Sparda. However, Vergil had no memory of their childhood hometown thanks to his rebirth as a human. Vergil looked around the neighborhood with curious eyes and with curious eyes watching him with wide eyes. Nero looked at Vergil slightly annoyed that he would go back and forth swinging his head around looking at the neighborhood.

"What is so fascinating to you Vergil?"

"I remember some of these buildings from somewhere. The only problem I am having is where."

"Maybe you grew up here?" Nero answered.

"What would make you say that? It's obvious that I feel like I have been here before but I have no real recollection of my childhood or what my hometown looked like. I can only remember what my mother looked like and that is probably why I am so drawn to Trish." Vergil replied solemnly.

"That's a given but it looks to me that Dante has feelings for Trish." Kyrie replied.

"That seems like the case." Patty interjected. "Dante and Lady have been friends and partners for a long time, the only issue with them is the fact that their relationship seems like a sexually tense relationship. Dante and Trish's relationship is a partner relationship but Dante always seems to have Trish around. Even when they're not working. Add to that, he always has a hint of affection in his eyes when he is with Trish but clear irritation when he is with Lady."

They had all stopped by now to discuss the bizarre and complex relationship Dante held with the two huntresses when the trio caught up to them in the town square.

"What are you guys talking about?" Lady asked as they neared the group.

They all turned around and quickly answered. "NOTHING!"

"What the hell is the matter with you guys?" Dante asked.

"Nothing…. We were all just…. Talking with your brother about how his memory was working." Nero answered as calmly as he could. Although he did not want to admit it out loud, he was also curious about the relationship Dante had with Lady and Trish and where Vergil would stand in the long run. He was also kind of jealous.

"Really?" Trish gave Nero a look of disbelief, but Nero chose to shrug it off and continue the conversation, hoping that Dante did not find out they were practically gossiping about his love life and possibly his sex life.

"Vergil mentioned that the area seemed familiar but he could not remember if he had been here before. Right Vergil?"

"He's right."

"Really Verge? You don't know where you are?" Dante inquired.

"Should this place be of importance to me?"

"YES!"

The towns folk had began to circle around the group, happily welcoming them to the ghetto as well as slightly bowing to Dante and Vergil. These actions caused Vergil to become more confused as to where he was and what was going on.

"Vergil. We were born in this ghetto." Dante answered. "Our parents settled here. They married before the people, built their home here and we were born and raised here right until six months after dad disappeared. Mom moved away from here after waiting for him to return for three months. She left because the memories of him were too much for her to handle."

"I…."

"You really don't remember?" Dante asked.

"No. I cannot remember."

"So the elder son cannot remember his past. My lady this is wonderful news. Don't you agree?"

"Yes it is. Now to snatch him away when his annoying little brother or other guardians are not watching. Then we can set our plans into full motion. Putting an end to Sparda bloodline!"

Vergil shivered slightly and looked over his shoulder.

"What is it?" Dante asked sternly.

"I thought I heard someone's voice." Vergil replied.

"You could be tired. We need to set up for lodging tonight. The gate is not that far from here and we can pick up on the journey first thing in the morning." Lady interjected. "Besides, I get the feeling that these people need to be around you two. It seems that you are both a comforting presence to be around because you are your father's children."

"Alright, we will set up camp and enjoy the night." Matier stated, "However, we shall do so responsibly. There is lodging for you up ahead in the manor."

"W-Wait." Dante stammered. "Did you just say manor? As in the one my father built?" Matier turned and smiled at him, "Why yes, the people have cleaned and maintained the manor in your family's absence hoping that one day, one of you would return."

"Oh."

"Let us go."

"Man, this place definitely feels like home."

"If you say so." Vergil smiled from seat next to the window.

"What is the matter with you?" Dante got up from the bed he was laying in.

"What do you mean brother?"

"I mean why are you all of a sudden so wishy washy with me? What the hell did I do to you this time?"

"What is your relationship with female hunters?"

"Where did this come from?"

"Answer the question Dante."

"Lucia and I have nothing going on. We just slayed demons together and took on some idiot trying to control this island."

"And the others?"

"Lady and I are partners from the time that you and her father tried to revive the Temen Na Gru and steal dad's sword that was used as a seal between the two worlds."

"And Trish?" Vergil's eyebrow rose as he asked about the blonde.

"What about her?"

"What is your relationship with her?"

"We were partners after she changed sides against Mundus. She helped me get out of the crazy ass castle trap he set up. We team up on cases from time to time, what the hell is this about?"

"We were talking about what your relationship is with them and how the relationships seem to be from the outside. Patty says you have feelings for Trish." Vergil answered smoothly.

"Since when do a bunch of adults take relationship insight from a thirteen year old?" Dante blurted out.

"So you deny the claims?" Vergil smirked.

"YES! There is nothing going on with myself or any of the girls." At this point Dante had turned beet red. He was rather uncomfortable telling his brother he had no interest in Trish even though he had for the longest time. He knew he shouldn't have because of her exact resemblance to his mother but he noticed all the differences in her with all the years they had known each other. She was much more sultry than he knew and she held herself differently, like a vixen, unlike his mother who was a lady.

"Okay then, no need to get all moody about it."

"I am not! I just feel really weird telling you about my relationships to the girls. You're not dad!" Dante replied.

"This is true." Vergil rebutted. "But I am BIG brother."

Author's Note!
A thousand apologies! I have not updated at all in 2 whole years! Oh my GOD!

But seriously, a rough break up with a guy I was totally head over heels for led to me not writing anything for a while.

Then I met another guy who helped me find myself again, little by little and we had ourselves a baby! In April 2012!

Add to that, we both got married in July of the same year and are blissfully happy for the moment.

The stress of going back to school this year has been on and off as well as annoying. Thanks to school, my creative thought process went out the window this semester, so free time writing went bye bye.

Thankfully, my job hours are limited otherwise, I would have lost my mind!
So please, review, tell me what you think. Hopefully, two more years will not go by before updating again! Adieu!
