Preparations and Pranking Tantalus
The morning after Tantalus made his announcement Tantalus woke up in the cot Mr. D had satyrs set up for him.
He got up to start his day only to find his feet stuck to the ground.
"What the…" Tantalus struggled to his feet. He even tried to lean down to see what was the cause, accidentally triggering a trip wire. Just then two buckets hanging over him spilled glue pink feathers on him.
Tantalus screamed in frustration which led to a fit of rage and anger.
While Tantalus was dealing with his situation, Naruto was unusually happy. Especially when he heard what happened to Tantalus.
"Hey Annabeth—" Naruto said.
"If you're asking about Tantalus, I heard," Annabeth said.
"No—well, yeah that was funny. But I'm actually here to ask your permission for something," Naruto said.
Naruto told her about the Stoll Brothers said about him and Hinata entering the race for Hermes.
"Sure," Annabeth said.
"Really?" Naruto asked.
"Yeah. It's obvious you been wanting to participate since last night," Annabeth said. "Just as long as you know that you'll be competing against Percy and me."
"Fair enough," Naruto laughed. "By the way. Go easy on Percy about the Tyson situation. Knowing him, he's not taking the news of having a Cyclops brother so well, and we know there will be demigods that will tease him cause of it."
"right," Annabeth sighed.
The next morning started normal for Tantalus—at least with no pranks. But he was seriously skittish after the madness incident. Little did he know, Naruto and the Stoll Brothers had set something up in his office. So when he entered the room he set off a recording system.
"Is it safe?" the first voice said
"What?" Tantalus said.
"Is it gone?" a second voice asked
"What's gone?"
"Is it safe?"
"Is it gone?"
"Alright, who goes there!" Tantalus said.
Tantalus started searching through his office for the sound as he kept hearing 'Is it safe?' and 'Is it gone?' Until it finally drove him crazy to the point that when it finally ended hours later he didn't show up to the point that that Mr. D had to search for him found him curled up underneath the desk muttering the very same questions.
Outside Hinata and Naruto were drawing out plans for their chariot when an Asian girl name Drew Tanaka—daughter of Aphrodite and leader of his fanclub—showed up.
"Oh Naruto, honey, why don't you ditch that wannabe and work with me," Drew said.
"No thanks," Naruto said.
"Come on, sweetie. I bet I'm a lot more resourceful than that mess!" she pointed at Hinata.
Hinata sense that Drew was using powers behind her words, but Naruto seem unaffected.
"Unless you have 360 degree vision telescopic vision, I doubt that," Naruto said, "Besides even if you somehow do, Hinata and I knew each other since we were kids and I trust her."
Drew seemed agitated as she stormed off.
"D-did you really mean what you said back there?" Hinata asked.
"Yeah! Of course," Naruto said. "I wouldn't have agreed with partnering with you in this race if I thought otherwise."
At that point Annabeth stormed off from where she and Percy were working at obviously mad.
"Here we go again." Naruto sighed.
"T-That happened before?" Hinata asked.
"More than they would like to admit," Naruto responded.
…
The next morning Naruto was up extra early and walked to the Amphitheater where the hearth was for some early fire training—most importantly to see what he could do other than use fire style jutsus.
However, this morning he wasn't alone. An eight-year-old girl with dark hair, in a brown cloak. She turned and smiled but her eyes were literally on fire.
Naruto recognized her right away.
"Lady Hestia," Naruto responded.
Naruto haven't seen his patron goddess since he chose to be her champion last summer.
"Good morning Naruto," Hestia greeted. "Care to join me?"
Naruto nodded and sat down next to Hestia.
"So—um—what brings you to Camp?" Naruto asked.
"Not much, just making sure my nephew hasn't destroyed the camp and killed any campers yet," Hestia said.
"Nephew—oh, right," Naruto responded. "Tantalus was the son of Zeus. I guess he was a big disappointment to the Lord of the Skies."
"Just to show that children of Zeus can be as dangerous as children of Poseidon," Hestia said.
"Percy isn't dangerous," Naruto stated, "Arrogant and cocky, but nothing like Tantalus."
The sky rumbled as if Zeus was trying to argue back.
"As for Tantalus, he been too busy to cause too much damage," Naruto said.
Suddenly there was a loud scream from the Big House that could be heard across the valley.
"Huh, he's up early today," Naruto said.
Hestia stared at Naruto and smiled. "It sounds like you have Tantalus under control. Athena and Hermes would be glad to hear that."
Naruto looked up at the name of his grandparents. So far, the only grandparent he met was Athena. But there was something else on his mind.
"Is something the matter," Hestia said.
"Yeah, actually there is," Naruto said. "Tantalus threatened to reveal about the Nine-Tail Fox, and I know he will hold it over me until it's revealed."
"And you're considering telling the whole camp before he does," Hestia said.
Naruto nodded. "I knew the truth would come out eventually, but I thought Chiron would be there when I do and help if some of the campers take it the wrong way."
"Naruto, I can't influence your decision much more than Athena and Hermes could," Hestia said. "But know this, its better for your friends to hear it from you than from Tantalus."
Naruto knew this well. Ares practically blew the secret last summer, forcing him to come forward about it to Annabeth, Percy, and Grover.
"I better be going," Hestia said, "Sooner Olympus knows of the situation with Tantalus the better. One last thing, Naruto. To protect the camp, here's a bit of advice: What the tree needs satyrs died finding what they didn't tend to find."
Naruto was confused but shook it off.
This morning at breakfast, everyone was talking about the latest prank on Tantalus. Apparently someone painted his room orange with black pegasus everywhere.
Naruto worked with Hinata on the chariot and that night was on patrol duty with Percy. Naruto didn't tell his friend about his chat with Hestia. He had a hard time understanding it himself.
The next day, Tantalus woke up cautious of everything. After being glued and feathered, hearing voices, and finding his room painted, he was ready for anything.
He was cautious everywhere he stepped and everything seemed good until he stepped out on the front porch a bucket of kitty litter fell on him covering him head to toe in it before the bucket fell on his head.
"REALLY!"
…
Naruto and Hinata finished up their chariot which was orange box with the symbols of Hermes, Hestia, Hebe, Hyuuga clan, red whirlpool and leaf symbol. Naruto didn't add Athena's symbol since Athena Cabin was racing on their own.
Annabeth and Percy had fought so many about Tyson, that they decided it might be best for the two cabins to race on their own.
Naruto had argued with his friends over their idiotic behavior.
Hinata and Naruto agreed to use the camp horses to pull the chariot.
"Everything looks good," Naruto said.
"Are you sure you want to race with me?" Hinata asked. "I-It's not too late to ask Annabeth—"
"I'm certain, Hinata," Naruto said. "We're going to win tomorrow."
"What about Tantalus?" Hinata asked. "H-He's going to find out what you did."
"I'm not scared of the Child-Eater," Naruto said. "Because soon, he won't have anything to hold over me."
Hinata choose not to question what Naruto meant, but she wondered what Naruto meant.
