"Ivy, go to the Captain and instruct him on what to do," Dr. Nelson began their plan, "Maggie and Greg, you go around, from opposite directions, and tell everyone to move to the inside of the vessel and to stay away from the sides."
"What will you do?" Ivy asked, not wanting to be away from his side with the shark so close.
He caught onto her fear and smiled, gently, "I'm going to stay on our boat and wait for our aid while shooting everything we have at this monster."
Ivy looked up at him before she moved to his side and leaned up, placing her lips firmly to his, before pulling away, "Be careful," she said as if it was an order.
"I will, Love," he replied, "You do the same and I'll see you in a moment."
Ivy nodded as she raced toward the main cabin and up the stairs to the Captain's area. She found two men in control of the vessel, "Excuse me, gentlemen," Ivy said to grab their attention. They both turned back to look at her allowing her to explain, "There is a three headed shark circling the boat and you need to on the engine and get this boat to land."
One of the men laughed before he was stopped by the sounds of screaming which caused Ivy to race out of the room and back to the decks to help in any way she could. What she saw, nothing could have prepared her for, young adults were being slaughtered by the beast left and right. Ivy inhaled as she raced back down the stairs to rejoin Dr. Nelson and fight off the monster.
Ken looked up from shooting everything they had to see Ivy racing back and stopped long enough to help her onboard, unwilling to risk her getting grabbed. "How did your mission go?" he asked, handing her one of their many guns.
Ivy rolled her eyes before answering, "They laughed in my face until they were stopped by all the screaming. Have you had any luck with our ammo?" she asked, from the looks of things she wasn't thinking his answer would be a yes.
Ken shook his head, "No, they haven't had much effect, if any, at all. It seems the only way to truly injure this creature is through close contact or explosives," he admitted, at the same time as he picked up his gun again and began firing rounds at the three headed shark once more.
"I didn't think so," Ivy added, crestfallen at their inability to do anything with this situation, "I wish our back up would get here," she said before an idea came to her, "What if we go to that bridge for when they dock and shoot from right above it?"
Ken looked up, unsure of the safety aspect but nothing was safe, and he nodded, "Lead the way," he urged causing Ivy to hop back across the boats, her speargun back on her arm, waiting for Ken to be by her side.
The pair climbed up the steep pier before they each grabbed the railing with one arm and began firing with the other. Ivy looked over at Ken just as another boat was moving into range, "This is kinda fun," she confessed as each hit made a small impact on the shark below.
Ken grinned back, a devious gleam dancing in his eyes, "Yes, this really is a good time." As he spoke, the shark disappeared beneath the water and Ken looked at Ivy, "Where do you think he went? He surely was not dead," he added, his face contorted in a quizzical expression.
Ivy shrugged, "I don't know but I see the fishing guys heading this way," she noted, waving her free arm in the boat's direction so they'd know how dire things were. The boat must have seen her because they changed their trajectory to straight where Ivy and Ken were.
Just as the boat neared, the shark lunged from the water, onto the boat, below their vantage point, shaking it enough for Ken to lose grip and begin sliding down toward it's mouths. Ivy loosened her grip and grabbed a hold of one of his hands, "Reach your other one up too and I can pull you back up!" she yelled, her voice racing as her heart beat through her chest from fear that she was about to lose him.
Ken groaned as he did what she said and held onto her with both hands, "Love, I don't think I can hold on!" he shouted back, "Don't worry, you will be alright. I love you," he began saying things that sounded too much like goodbye for Ivy's liking and she began using every bit of strength in her body to pull him up toward her.
As she struggled to keep him from sliding into the monster's jaws, Max, the fisherman, climbed from his boat to where Ivy was, a machete in his hand. "What are you going to do?" Ivy asked, her face white with fear, still gripping Ken with everything she had.
"I'll take care of this," Max replied as he jumped and slid down toward the shark. She watched as he positioned his knife at the shark's middle head and as he made impact, the machete tore through the shark's body, all the way down through the tail. Max sent the shark back into the water in two different pieces, each falling to one side of the boat.
"Boys, use the explosives!" Max yelled, finally giving Ivy a chance to pull Ken back to her. Once she had him back by her, she wrapped her arms around his neck, holding back the tears that threaten to escape from relief.
Ken held onto her just as tight as the pair watched Max's crew make their way around each side, blowing up both sides of the shark to ensure it wouldn't regenerate on either side. "Why didn't we think of that?" Ken asked with a laugh as he placed one hand in Ivy's hair.
Ivy laughed along with him, shrugging her shoulders, "How silly of us," she added before shouting down to Max, "Thank you!"
"No problem, do you need help getting the injured to shore?" he asked.
Ivy nodded as she pulled away from Ken, "Yes, I don't know how many there are but our boat can take quite a few, but this ship is done for."
Max nodded, gesturing for his men to pull around as he looked for survivors.
"We should see if any of our team survived," Ken said as she stood, reaching his hand down for her to help walk back down the bridge. As they reached the bottom, Greg and Maggie appeared, "You guys made it!" Maggie exclaimed, "We got so worried when the shark started picking people off one by one," to which Greg nodded, wrapping his arm around Maggie.
"I almost lost this one," Ivy replied, wrapping her arms around his waist from the side, "But Max showed up just in time and now I am in need of a long vacation, preferably somewhere landlocked," she added with a grin, causing Maggie and Greg to laugh.
Ken leaned down and kiss her head, "We can go anywhere you want after what we've just been through, even the GA Aquarium like you've been asking, Dr. Flanagan," he offered before adding, "As long as I'm with you, it doesn't matter where we are."
Ivy leaned back and looked up into his eyes with a tender smile crossing her lips, "Is that so, Dr. Nelson? Because I was just thinking the exact same thing," she agreed before they walked off the end of the bridge and joined Maggie and Greg, headed for their boat.
The End
