STAR Labs - Time Vault
"Gideon, new log entry. Supergirl's maximum speed seems to be about mach 3.1, her heat vision still goes up to just under 1000 degrees centigrade, and her freeze breath still only goes down to -271.37 degrees. Luckily, she can't go down to absolute zero yet. End log entry." Wells walked out of the time vault. He walked to the main room, where he found Cisco.
"Kara told me to meet you here." Cisco said.
"Oh, yes, Mr. Ramon, I have some ideas about suit upgrades for Peter and Kara." Wells handed Cisco the blueprints. "I want you to give Peter a full HUD in his mask, complete with maps, weather, nearby crimes, and anything else he may need. I also want you to work with Dr. Osborne to create a way to track their vitals when they're out on the field."
"I just have one question: how's Peter going to interact with the HUD?" Cisco asked.
"Eye tracking. He looks at something to do an action." Wells responded. Cisco nodded and got to work on Peter's new mask.
The next day, Wells called Peter and Kara to STAR.
"Dr. Wells, what did you want to show us?" Peter asked.
"We've Can now track your vitals from your suits- you know, monitor you BPMs, Blood Pressures- that kind of stuff." Cisco responded. "AAND… Peter, try this new mask on." Peter put it on, and was amazed. He had a full computer inside his mask.
"How do I control it?" Peter asked.
"Eye tracking. Look at a certain element for long enough, and it'll expand or open, or do an action." Cisco said. Peter tried it out, and he liked it.
"Thanks man, this is really cool." Peter said.
"Now that you're done, there's a robbery going down. Follow me, Peter." Kara said.
"Ms. Danvers, don't you want to take your suit?" Wells said. Kara stopped for a moment' and sped into her new suit.
"Where's the cape?" Kara asked.
"Put your old one on." Wells responded. Kara put her cape on and flew off, with Peter swinging below her. They got to the bank, and found a group of people with alien weapons aiming at them. Peter managed to disarm a couple of them, but someone managed to hit him with a shock wave. Kara melted a few weapons until she was hit by a kryptonite bullet.
In his mask, Peter could see the words "Alert! Supergirl is injured!" in all of their low definition, aliased beauty. He immediately picked her up and tried to take her back to STAR, but got lost. Kara knew where they were, but he didn't. Then he remembered that there was a GPS in his mask, but he couldn't figure out how to open it. He eventually just took out his phone and called Wells, who gave him the directions back.
"Ms. Danvers is just barely alive. She should be fine." Wells said.
Barry got to STAR Labs as soon as he could when he learned that his best friend was shot.
"Peter, what happened!?" Barry shouted. When he didn't respond, Barry ran up to him and punched him. "Peter. What. Happened?!"
"I couldn't find my way home! This eye-movement-mask thing Cisco made is super counter-intuitive."
"How is she?"
"She'll be fine, Barry." Wells said. Barry looked around as though he was choosing someone to get mad at, and left.
Once they got home, Barry told peter he wanted to talk to him. They went into his room and closed the door.
"Firstly, Peter-"
"Yes, I know, it's my fault-"
"-I don't blame you." This surprised Peter, as Barry looked like he was ready to kill him back at STAR. "This isn't anybody's fault."
"Oh, thank god, Peter said quietly. "I think it was the mask."
"Yeah, an eye movement system probably wouldn't work too well. I'll help Cisco work on something." Barry punched Peter.
"What was that for?!"
"I needed to punch somebody. You have super healing, right?"
"Yeah. Seriously, though, it's a lot easier to talk to someone than to use this mask."
"Wait… what if we add a voice interface to the mask?" Barry grabbed a pencil and paper. "It'll be just like talking to someone…"
"What do you mean by voice interface?"
"Say a specific word followed by a command, and it'll do that thing for you. Like, for example, 'give me directions to STAR labs.'"
"You really needed to bring that up?" Peter asked, and Barry just walked out. He called Cisco, and then went to STAR labs.
"Yeah, buddy, programming isn't really my thing. I'm more of an engineer." Cisco said.
"So you can at least help me put it in the mask, right?" Barry asked.
"Yes. Definitely."
"Good." Barry was about to start writing code when Cisco interrupted him.
"Wait, dude, we have to name it something? Y'know, like a wake word. Maybe 'Alexa,' or something."
"How about… Gideon?" Barry said
"I don't like it."
"Well, I'm programming it, so-"
"NO! I'm not working with you if it's going to be called Gideon!"
"Fine! How about we just let Peter name it whatever he wants."
"Fine." Cisco said, and Barry started programming. At one point, he decided to check on Kara.
"Hey, Barry."
"Hey, Kara. How are you?"
"Well, apart from being shot for the first time, I'm good."
"How many 15 year olds do you know who can say that they've been shot?"
"I guess you could say I'm unique." Barry was about to walk back, but he decided to say something.
"Look, I may not be the biggest fan of the idea of you and Peter going out in the world and risking your lives. But seen as you're never going to listen to me, could you PLEASE at least be more careful? Ask Wells to do something."
"Fine. Now, get back to work. You want me to be safe? That's the first step."
"This is my life now," Barry muttered as he walked back to the computer.
6 Months Later
Over the past half year, a lot had happened. Barry and Peter both turned 16, Alex joined the team at STAR, and Peter's mask A.I. was finally finished.
"So, Barry, I finally got the voice interface to run properly in the mask." Cisco said.
"Great." As Cisco walked away, Barry said "Hey, could you do something else?"
"Yeah, What?"
"Try fitting it into a mask for Kara. Like, a mask that only covers the eye area.
"I'll try." Cisco left, and Barry called Peter to STAR.
"You like her, don't you?" Alex said, already in the room.
"God, Alex, how long have you been there? You're like, better than sneaking into rooms than Dr. Wells is."
"You like her, don't you?" Alex repeated.
"Who?"
"Kara."
"K-Kara? No!" Barry blushed. "What would make you think that?"
"Come on, Barry. You're great at a lot of things, but hiding your emotions isn't one of them. I know the way you acted when Kara was shot that day. Peter told me. I also just saw how you made sure Kara had something i her mask."
"That's just 2 things, none of which imply that I might have any feelings towards her."
"I've also seen the way you look at her, how you talk to her. I've known you for years, Barry."
"Whatever you're saying, I'm telling you it's not true."
"Sure. Keep denying it, until it's too late. Didn't work so well for Jim Halpert, did it?"
"Are you seriously comparing me to a character from a TV show?"
"Point is, you're being stupid. And you're going to regret it one day." Alex said, before she walked out.
"Did it work?" Peter asked.
"No, he's still denying it." Alex responded. "Now it's your turn to talk to Kara."
A/N I know this chapter had a lot of stuff going on in it, but I want to take this chance to rant about the imperial measurement system. Why are there 12 inches in a foot, and 3 feet in a yard? Sure, 3 is a factor of 12, but apart from that, WHY CHOOSE 12 AND 3? Farenheit also makes no sense. Sure, it may be more accurate, but you can barely tell the difference between 20 degrees celsius and 21. At least with the metric measurement system, you have some obvious constants. 0 degrees is water's freezing point, 100 is boiling point, and in distance, every unit is 10x the size of the last one.
Now, onto the chapter note! Peter and Alex finally know that Barry and Kara like each other! Also, Gideon is here, and Peter gets to name her (He's from the MCU, what do you think she'll be called). As always, please REVIEW, follow, favourite, and share.
