What the pineapple wa-

*CUT! Let's take it from the top people! I rather not die by that trident of his!* ImsorryIcouldntresist

So I guess I tried and this is what I got for these two. It will also be the last of the series, as I really don't think I can write Hibari and LAMBO of all people. Yes yes it might be a bit unfair that Yamamoto gets his, but unless y'all reaalllyyyyyy want those two, I'm ending it right here fam. The story is set in chapter 406, in the hospital where everyone involved in the rainbow fight was admitted.

Warning, some slight OOC because what is even in Mukuro's head, cursing because Mukuro (maybe idk actually), and idek how to write Mukuro like what is he even its basically if you take a pineapple, the mafia, and a kuudere personality, put it together and you literally have Rokudo Mukuro (pleasedontkillme). (0_0)

Also its been awhile so I don't rmb the characters or plot very well, so forgive me if there are some small inconsistencies in… everything.

Disclaimer: Mukuro and HIBARI could get married in a parallel universe and I'd never own KHR.

What the illusionist wants: Her comfort -or- "I owe you that much at the least."

=Bow Wow Woof Bark=

Rokudo Mukuro sunk down into his hospital bed after the commotion caused by Tsuna's visit had died down, practically exhausted despite not showing it. He'd rather die before that happened.

"…that was utterly foolish." He thought, looking straight through the illusionary temporary walls and inwardly frowning at the Varia. Mammon was half-ecstatic half-annoyed at all the illusions he had to make to cover up the busted walls, the commotion, and to top it off everyone else's missing organs; he'd be getting so much money but was it worth it? Probably.

He sighed under his breath and glanced around his room where his Kokuyou members loitering around, before settling his gaze on Chrome, who had been sitting by his bed silently watching the chaos unfold and retreat.

"… Chrome." He quietly called out to her.

She turned her head to him, slightly taken aback. "Yes, Mukuro-sama?"

"…" remaining silent, Mukuro didn't really know what he wanted to say. Did he feel remorse? Pain? Emotions? Quite frankly he didn't know.

"Mukuro-sama?" Chrome tilted her head slightly in concern and confusion.

"… You've become stronger." He finally settled on that, but still hesitant with his words.

"O-oh!" Chrome exclaimed softly, looking down at her lap. She was not expecting that from the illusionist. "Um, thank you Mukuro-sama."

A short silence fell between them, and to Chrome, it felt like the world around them started moving in slow motion despite it being the exact opposite. Ken was screaming at MM because she wouldn't let him have any of her parfait, and Chikusa looked like he was going to silently murder them both.

"Mukuro-samaa."

The feminine voice broke Chrome out of her daze. It was MM.

"Help meee, Mukuro-sama. Ken is being a pest and I can't wait to drop him off at the pound one day." MM said and shot a glare at Ken.

"OI. You're just being a selfish bitch!" Ken spat back.

"Why you damn mutt…" MM looked like she was gonna blow her top.

"Um-!" Chrome spoke up, surprising even herself.

MM looked at her, curiosity and disgust slightly showing on her face. "What."

"Um… maybe we should go and let Mukuro-sama rest…" she spoke timidly but clearly, determined to not let Mukuro's earlier praise be proven wrong.

"… Tsk. You have a functioning mouth after all, Dokuro. Let's go, Chikusa help me drag Ken to the pound." MM turned away with the other two boys already arguing in front of her. Not caring to see if Chrome followed or not, they left the hospital. Chrome breathed a sigh of relief, and turned to Mukuro with a small smile.

"…I'll be heading off then, Mukuro-sama." But before she could even turn away, he called her name in such a way that sent shivers down her spine, and she didn't know what to make of it.

"Chrome."

"… Yes, Mukuro-sama?" she was afraid to move.

"Stay."

"You want me to stay?"

"Yes."

"…Okay."

Slightly concerned, she sat back down. Mukuro doesn't ever ask people to stay, in fact 99.9% of the time it was mostly him trying to get everyone out of his sight.

"Mukuro-sama? Do you need anything?" Chrome asked to break the deafening silence that had settled since the rest of the Kokuyou left. Mukuro had been mostly just staring at Chrome, trying to figure out what to say, words never came easy for him after all.

"Grazie." A small word of thanks in Italian was what he managed.

After what he said earlier, it left Chrome speechless. Mukuro then decided to grow a pair (emotionally) and push forth with the things that have been weighing on his mind, for if he didn't speak it now, he'd probably take it with him to his grave.

"… My dear Chrome. You've surpassed what I expected of you back then." He paused, eyes fixed on Chrome's stunned expression. Looking for words that weren't standard Mukuro vocabulary was proving more difficult than he thought. "I did not abandon you without reason then, and I believed you'd return to me stronger than before. I'm apologising for that."

"A thank you and an apology? Is this a dream?" One can't even blame Chrome for such thoughts. It was indeed surreal.

"Your newborn flames felt like it could heal my heart. I felt at peace for the first time in my life."

Chrome could feel her face turn slightly red and she couldn't for the life of her understand what brought this on since they were no longer connected at the mind.

"With that, I am going to ensure that you live the rest of your life without pain, without sorrow."

At this point Chrome could feel tears pricking at her eyes.

"Because all the suffering I put you through for my own sake, a life free from suffering… I owe you at least that much."

Mukuro reached out and put his hand over hers, and Chrome burst into silent tears, grasping at Mukuro's hand, taking in the warmth she had seeking all this time, saying a genuine thank you in her heart. She was sure he heard.

No more words needed to be said.

..

To Chrome:

"After all that you've done for me… A life of ease, I owe you that much at the least."

=Bow Wow Woof Bark=

Extras:

"… I hope you remember this because I'm never saying such sappy things ever again." Mukuro thought to himself as he just stared at a crying Chrome, at a complete loss.

Sighing, the smallest crack of a smile graced his lips.

"We've always been connected in one way or another, so… thank you too, my dear Chrome."
