v | CONFLICT
"YOU OKAY?"
Rouge nodded. The last thing she needed was for her to expose Julie for her jealous nature. No. The last thing she wanted to do was let Julie be right; there was nothing going between her and Knuckles, and people simply didn't believe or understand that.
She wasn't surprised by the idea. It was all part of the stereotype of being best friends with the opposite sex. Someone also assumed that they were dating, liked each other and were going to date eventually. Didn't they understand that she was happy for Knuckles with Julie?
Well—
After her little girl bonding before lunch, the bat wasn't too sure. She wasn't jealous of their relationship, but she didn't like the vibes that she got from Julie. She seemed over jealous, overly jealous enough to tell her to pretty much back off her boyfriend, her boyfriend who was also her best friend.
Well, arguably, they were best friends before—
"HEY GUYS!"
The sound of Vector's voice brought relief to the table. The awkward silence—and the death stares that Rouge had been delivering—seemed to make most of the table uncomfortable. Not like she could really do much about it.
"Hey Vector, what's up?" Sally greeted friendly.
"Well—"
"WE'RE HAVING A PARTY THIS SATURDAY!" the loud, happy bee beside Vector cut off gleefully. Rouge couldn't help but laugh at the irritation on Vector's face. Rouge had guessed the freshmen was a loud and chirpy person, much to Vector's annoyance.
"Yeah, that but less irritating." he huffed at the bee.
"Sorry."
"This is Charmy. He's an old friend of ours." Espio introduced as the young bee waved and everyone on the table waved back.
"We figured we might as well have a back to school party this Saturday, especially with an old member around."
Rouge fought the urge to roll her eyes. While everyone was commenting on how sweet the gesture was, Rouge wanted to gag. The same girl that threatened her for hanging out with her best friend was the same girl who got a party thrown for her?
Wow. Just wow.
"That sounds fun." Sally beamed.
"Great! So you all are in?" Vector asked as he glanced at Rouge.
The ivory bat cocked a brow but the knowing look on the green crocodile's face made her realise that he was onto something. Did he know something? He was always trying to investigate the friendship between him and Knuckles.
"Yep." Rouge smirked, reassuring him with her eyes that whatever he was guessing, was probably wrong.
Probably.
—
"What's going on with you and Julie?"
Rouge glanced at the echidna. The two were currently at his house, Knuckles claiming that he needed to have an important conversation with her. She didn't mind, mostly because she missed hanging out with her best friend and her father being in her house was worth avoiding.
"Nothing." Rouge shrugged before she smirked. "Why? Jealous I might steal your girlfriend?"
"Rouge—"
"I mean, she's not that ugly and—"
"ROUGE!"
The ivory bat glanced at the seriousness in his purple orbs. Normally, they were like this. She would joke and he'd be the hot-head that he was about it, but there was a seriousness in his eyes that she had never seen before.
He cares about her.
Why did she find that so surprising? They were dating after all. She shrugged it off, passing it off as simply irritancy of Julie passing onto Knuckles.
She sighed, getting up from her comfortable lying position as she sat up, moving closer to the edge of his bed as she glanced at him, who was currently sitting on the chair by his desk.
"It's nice for you to think of my girlfriend as not that ugly." he let out first. "But there was something going on between the two of you and I don't like it."
Rouge clicked her tongue. She didn't want to get involved in their relationship—not because she cared about Julie—but because she didn't want to wreck her friendship with Knuckles. She was already losing him more than she realised that she didn't want that to happen.
"It's nothing." she shrugged off simply. She knew he didn't believe her. She could still feel his stare when she started looking at her phone.
"Rouge—"
"Hey, that new Love Simon movie is out, we should go see it."
"Rouge—"
"What the hell are you doing in my house?"
Rouge fought the urge to roll her eyes, something that she seemed to be doing a lot of lately. She didn't need to look at the door to know that Knuckles' mother was leaning on it, fury in her green eyes, the usual emotion whenever she was around.
"And that's my cue to leave." For once, Rouge didn't mind leaving. After all, she would rather leave than have this conversation.
For once, she was willing to listen to Lara-Le. That's a first.
"Good." her mother eyed Knuckles warily, as if to say, we need to talk.
Huh, wonder what THAT conversation would be about?
"Mum—"
"It's fine. I'd see you tomorrow Knucklehead." she sighed before passing through his mother, whose annoying glare never seemed to leave her back.

Sonia tapped her foot irritably before grabbing a chilli cheese fry.
She didn't know why she had agreed to this stupid thing in the first place. She could have been hanging out with Bunnie right now, she could have been sleeping or reading one of her favourite books but instead she was waiting for Scourge the Hedgehog.
She checked her watch: 3:04pm
She let out a sigh of relief. One more minute until she could leave. She did warn him about this. Perhaps he wasn't as serious about this as she thought.
DING!
Sonia turned to the door, before seeing Scourge the annoying hedgehog. He had a smirk on his face, but that surprisingly wasn't the thing that was irritating her. She glanced at his appearance, his lips were coated with lipstick—red to be exact—his shirt was quite rumbled and he looked, satisfied.
Sonia gagged.
"Sorry I'm late princess."
"I am not your princess." Sonia snapped as he sat on the opposite booth, before grabbing a chilli cheese fry.
"HEY!"
"C'mon, you said five minutes. I came in four minutes."
"Probably because that's how long you little fuck session lasted."
"Oh sweetie, jealous?" he winked as Sonia growled.
They hadn't even started working and the green hedgehog was already annoying the hell out of her. She was lucky that Manic was practising his music project and Sonic had track unless she wouldn't have been able to do this.
"Never." she huffed. "Just feel bad for the girl who you gave STDs."
Scourge rolled his eyes at her insult, making her smirk. It was nice for him to see what being irritated was like, considering that he did it to people.
"Alright. Let's start with-
BUZZ BUZZ!
Sonia frowned as the green hedgehog brought out his green S'phone before letting out an exasperated sigh.
"I have to go."
"What the hell? We just—"
"Look, I'm sorry. I have to go." he cut off before leaving in a hurry as the magenta hedgehog watched him run past her.
She huffed. So much for trying to help him.
~xxx~
"WHAT THE HELL?" Scourge hissed as he entered the building. He glanced at the sight of the bloody Mobian tied up to the chair. Scourge sighed, before glancing at Sleuth Dawg for an explanation.
"Betrayed our trust. Bailed one of us out to Dark Legion."
"Shit, who?" Scourge hissed.
"Simian."
Shit.
Simian had always been good at making sure that negotiations were always filled in on time. Losing him was going to make work a lot harder. He glanced at the light blue Mobian. His red eyes were glaring ferociously at the hedgehog.
He sighed with irritation. As much as he hated to admit it, he needed to pass, for the sake of his creditability. There was no way that he could be the bad boy of Sega High and yet, not be in any of the sport teams. The sport teams helped with his popularity.
He really didn't want to be dealing with this crap.
"So we killing him or not?" Rosy hissed, the pink hedgehog glaring at Scourge with a large amount of irritation.
"Why didn't you call my father?" Scourge asked irritated.
"Told you." Rosy hissed as Scourge huffed at the pink hedgehog.
She always irritated the hell out of him and the fact that he lost his virginity to her gave him more reason to hate her. He can't believe they thought they loved each other.
He scoffed at that thought.
"I was busy. Unlike you guys, I still go to school." Scourge reminded.
"That magenta hedgehog your new bait?" Rosy scoffed.
Scourge frowned. He didn't like Rosy, but he defiantly didn't like her making comments about Sonia. Sure, the magenta hedgehog didn't like him but she was no better.
"What are you doing, stalking me?" Scourge scoffed.
"I told her to see where you were." Alicia explained as the hedgehog scoffed at the chipmunk.
"Aren't you supposed to be with your sister?" Scourge asked as Alicia shrugged.
Scourge never did wonder why she joined the gang. It wasn't like any of her family members were in it—in fact, they were quite the opposite—but he knew that asking Alicia wouldn't lead him anywhere. She was secretive.
No wonder he found her attractive.
"My sister would survive." she shrugged off. "But Rosy is right, annoyingly as it is to say. You're going to continue to let your father use you as a bitch because of your wannabe girlfriend?"
"She's not my girlfriend." Scourge frowned.
She wasn't; she was simply helping him out with school, mostly because well he forced her into it. Besides, she hated his guts after the de-friendship of him and her brothers.
"Deal with this later." Drago hissed out annoyed, his blue eyes piercing into Scourge's. "What do we do?"
I'm not proving Alicia or Rosy right.
Scourge sighed. "Let's deal with it. Destructix style."

"You know Charmy likes you right?"
Cream huffed. While she loved hanging out with Pearl, she knew that the topic of Charmy would come up. It had been coming up ever since they all started middle school. She didn't know why her—or Marine—believed in this crazy idea that her and Charmy were destined to be together.
He doesn't even hang out with her like he used to.
She loved that Charmy had other friends—they were nice people—but she didn't think that she could fit with them and every day she felt as if she was losing him. She didn't want to lose him; they had promised each other ever since her father left her they would have each other's backs.
And they were going to, right?
"No he doesn't." Cream sighed as she finally reached her locker to get her books.
"C'mon! It's so obvious. Plus, you're a cheerleader now! Remember what Amy said, you gotta have full confidence in yourself."
Cream sighed. Amy was a family friend of hers and while she loved the pink hedgehog to death—arguably one of her first friends—it was hard to compare one of the most popular—slash prettiest—girls in school's advice on confidence. Amy was captain of cheerleading and the leader of the enrichment committee for crying out loud! Cream? The wannabe cheerleader in order to make her crush notice her.
Damn highschool.
"Too bad Charmy doesn't hang out with me anymore."
"C'mon, he probably trying to ask his friends for advice." Pearl reassured.
As much as she wished her companion's advice was true, she really doubted that the party machine of the school, at least according to Amy, was great at giving love advice.
"HEY GUYS!"
Pearl smirked as Cream tried not to blush at the sound of the optimistic voice as the bee came towards them.
"Woah, you guys are Sega Starlets?" he beamed before looking at Cream. "You look cute."
Really hard not to blush right now.
"Um… thank you." she managed to let out as the bee smiled.
"So what's up?" Pearl asked, relieving Cream from the awkward silence as Charmy nodded, as if he was remembering why he was here.
"Oh yeah! I just wanted to let you us know that you're invited to Vector's party on Saturday. He said I could invite a few freshmen and I thought why not have my best friends there."
Cream smiled, faltered by the offer, but the sound of best friend coming out of his mouth was not the best.
"Of course!" Pearl beamed. Cream wasn't too sure. While she loved her friends, she didn't really think that parties were her thing, especially a highschool party with alcohol and drugs.
"Don't worry Cream, you'd be fine. I'd make sure of that." he reassured as Cream smiled softly.
"Anyway, I'm off to find Marine. Chaos knows where that girl goes off to." Charmy chuckled before bidding farewell to the two.
"Don't say it." Cream warned, but she knew it was useless.
"He likes you!" Pearl beamed as Cream rolled her eyes playfully, beads of hope filling up inside of her at the possible thought of that.

Cosmo let out a satisfied breath.
She enjoyed this. When there was no swimming practice, she normally just swam in the school pool to relax. She had a pool in her own home, but the last thing she wanted to see was her father. They were never on good terms and she wasn't sure if they ever will be.
It started with when her mum died. She believed that he was simply grieving, losing himself into the alcohol. She reassured herself that he'd bounce himself back up and be the man that her mother fell in love with. But that never happened.
It probably never was.
So she focused on swimming. Swimming was her form of distraction and while she didn't mind being in the swimming team—and a nominee for swimming captain—swimming competitively didn't give her the freedom than swimming for fun did right now.
Cosmo sighed before sinking into the water a bit. This was her favourite part of swimming, sinking. It was weird, but she loved the way the water soaked her away from reality. She didn't have to worry about her father, wonder where her sister had gone to or worry about how her mother's death has affected her so much, she can be in her own world.
Much to her annoyance, the seedrain came up, grasping for air before seeing Tails in front of her. She was a little shocked and embarrassed. She didn't really expect Tails of all people to be here and more importantly, Tails seeing her in a swimsuit.
"Tails?" she said with surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"I kind need you for something." he let out. "If you don't mind."
Oh.
Cosmo blushed a bit. Maybe she had been watching too many movies with the girls but need you coming from a guy—especially one you have feelings for—could mean a certain thing. But she knew that Tails wasn't like that and more importantly, he wouldn't be like that with her.
"Um… yeah sure." she let out, hiding the disappointment in her voice.
"I have this chemistry project that I'm doing on emotions. I was hoping that maybe you'd like to be in the experiment."
Emotions.
Cosmo held in gulp. Even her TV shows and movies were correct, these experiments could mess her up, make her confess her feelings and embarrass herself for the rest of her life. Or maybe she was just being an optimist.
Tails sighed. "If you don't want to—"
"No. I want to."
She cringed at how eager she sounded. She didn't want him to think of her as weird or annoying—he probably already did but still—but she didn't want him to think of her as not her friend. Because he was.
To be honest, she wanted something more.
Tails smiled, making her heart skip a beat. "Great! I'd see you during break tomorrow, that cool?"
Cosmo nodded.
Tails grinned. "See ya!"
Cosmo smiled before getting out of the water. Perhaps it was maybe time to stop sinking and come into reality. But she was so afraid to.

"UGH! I HATE HIM!"
Sally slammed the door of the empty choir room as she sat on the floor. Irritation was an emotion that annoyingly came about a lot in her life, rather she liked it or not. Someone in her life always seemed to be irritating her.
Whether it was her father, her annoying twin sister or the irritating spawn that her father wants her to date, she always seemed to be irritated by the end of the day. She huffed, recollecting the events that had happened in the debate team earlier on.
"What?" Sally asked, shocked and irritation in her voice as she glared at Geoffrey.
Geoffrey St. John also known as the spawn of Satan and annoyingly, the love of her father's life. His father and hers had been doing business for a long while and Sally was NOT a fan of it. Her father believed that the two should date in order for business to go well. Sally was smitten by him once but sophomore year taught her his true disgusting nature.
"You heard me. I believe I should kick you out." Geoffrey frowned as he folded his arms.
Nicole scoffed. "That's a little insane don't you think?"
"Yeah, because I dumped you, you're kicking me off MY team?" Sally emphasised with anger. She got it, she probably hurt his non-existent feelings, but that didn't give him the right to kick her off her club.
"As far as I'm concerned, this IS a democracy." Prower interned, much to the interest of Geoffrey.
Sally rolled her blue eyes. It was already annoying enough when her father invited him for dinners and all, now he was pissing her off here.
"Sal—"
"Fine." Sally cut off Nicole. She knew her friend was probably going to make a stand for peace or whatnot but the chipmunk wasn't having it. The asshole needed to be given what he needed once and for all.
"Fine. You all want a democracy. We'd have a debate and have a vote. Rotor would choose the question and the people would decide."
Sally hated that her competitive side had gotten the best of her. She normally wasn't like that, but Geoffrey sure knew how the piss her the hell off.
"Didn't know you took choir?"
Sally turned around before seeing Manic smile at her. It was a relief to at least see someone that didn't irritate the hell out of her.
"Nah." Sally let out. "Although, I kind of wish I did."
"Why? What happened?" he asked, his voice making Sally realise that he was generally concerned about what was happening to her. His blue eyes met hers, making her realise how beautiful they—
Woah.
Sally had no idea where that came from. It wasn't like Manic was ugly or anything—the opposite actually—but she wasn't going to do anything about it. It was simple infatuation, nothing more and nothing less.
"Geoffrey being an ass." she growled, the sound of his name already irritating her.
"Oh you mean, Pepè Le Shrew?" Manic grinned as Sally chuckled. It was a pretty creative nickname, she had to admit.
"Yeah." Sally giggled.
"He's always an ass." Manic shrugged. "Just don't let him get on how awesome you are."
Sally couldn't help but blush a bit. Sure, she received true compliments from her brother and her friends but when he said it, it felt different, good different.
"SALLY!"
She glared at the sight of Geoffrey in front of her, who was currently glaring at Manic.
"Look, it's Pepè Le Shrew!" Manic beamed as Sally chuckled.
"What the hell are you doing with the likes of-" he glared at Manic for a moment. "Him."
"You make it sound as if you're better." Manic hissed before sending a small smile at Sally.
"I'd see you tomorrow." he smiled, before shoving past the skunk
"He's not your type." Geoffrey commented as soon as he left. Sally rolled her eyes.
"And what, you are?"
Geoffrey let out a content sigh before giving her a pity look. "Sal—"
"Only my friends call me that."
"Sal." he smirked at her irritated face. He loved to get her annoyed and it was really irritating the hell out of her. "I just came here to tell you to stop your teasing."
"Teasing?" Sally blinked in confusion before she laughed, realising what she meant.
"Wait, you think I like you? Me dumping you wasn't enough?" Sally grinned as Geoffrey frowned.
Sally smirked. "I'm going to kick your ass in that debate."
And with that, she walked out of the classroom.
—
"Why are you fighting with Geoffrey?"
Her father's sharp and accusing tone made her roll her eyes. She could never have a simple family dinner where her father didn't seem to be attacking her about her love life, or anyone about how they weren't living up to the Acorn name.
Apart from Elias, because he got into stupid college that dad went to.
"He was annoying me." Sally shrugged as she took a bite of her mashed potatoes.
She smiled at her mum. "These are good."
"Perché combatti con Geoffrey?" her father asked again. Sally huffed. Whenever her father spoke Italian or French to her, she knew that it meant business. She glared at her father, her mother watching warily. She didn't know why he was mad at her. At least she was the daughter who came home on time. Alicia was no where to be seen.
But hey, as long as she didn't jeopardise the business, all was good.
"Semplice. Perché è un asino." Sally shrugged as she causally took another bite of her mashed potatoes. She could tell her dad was fuming. Her mother rubbed his arm, coaxing him to calm down, before her inherited blue eyes glared at her.
"Ti scuserai sia con tuo padre che con Geoffrey" Her mother ordered icily as Sally sighed. She didn't know who to be more annoyed at, her parents or the stupid baby she sadly called a guy she used to like.
"Mi dispiace padre, ma sto dicendo la verità" Sally commented dryly, before getting up from the table as the front door closed. Sally turned before seeing her sister arrive at the dining table.
"Nice to see you're home." Sally commented icily before turning to her parents.
"And you all are made at me."

RING RING!
Julie was surprised—but nevertheless happy—to see a phone call by Knuckles. She grinned, before placing the lavender S'phone in her ear.
"Hey babe." she grinned.
"What is going on between you and Rouge?" Knuckles asked, cutting straight to the point.
Julie couldn't help but feel a little hurt by his question. No hello, no how was she doing, just a simple what happened with Rouge? It was starting to annoy her in all honesty. She had gotten the reassurances that there was nothing going on between them but she wasn't an idiot.
"I'm great Knuckles, nice to see you care." Julie let out sourly, regretting it with the sigh that escaped his lips.
"Julie. I just want my best friend and my girlfriend to get along."
Normally, she would have gotten annoyed that he referenced Rouge like that, but the way he called her girlfriend reassured her. She was something to him and it gave her hope in their relationship.
Knuckles sighed, realising that she hadn't been saying much. "Look, I know that I'm close with Rouge, but there's nothing to worry about. I'm dating you remember?"
Julie nodded. "Yeah."
She wanted to tell her that it gave her reassurance but it didn't; she was still worried about the bat. She was still wondering what was lingering in her mind in terms of Knuckles. She saw the glares she gave her sometimes. Was she jealous of her being with Knuckles?
"I'd walk with you tomorrow?" Knuckles asked.
"Yeah. See you." she smiled before cutting the call.
She sighed, before falling on her bed. Julie wasn't normally this type of person. Sure, she had been jealous of Knuckles being friends with other girls but never this limit where she was doubting Knuckles words, where she was worried about Rouge was thinking, rather than taking in her boyfriend's words.
"Your little chat with your boyfriend didn't help you?" someone commented snidely as Julie rolled her eyes.
She sat up, before realising that her half-sister Lien-Da was leaning on her door. Julie and her were not on good terms and would probably never be. Her irritation was still written in her face as she glanced at the duffel bag.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Julie asked through a hiss.
"I'm staying here for a while. Kragor OD." she let out dryly as Julie widened her eyes.
Lien-Da scoffed. "Don't act like you care."
Julie narrowed her eyes. Lien had made it clear that being with Julie would be the worse thing that ever happened, so she wondered what she was really doing here. She cared for Kragor, so what the hell could have happened that she came here.
Not like she was really going to answer those questions.
"I care." Julie let out, even though she knew that most of her didn't.
Lien rolled her blue eyes before playing with her nails. "Came here to tell you that whatever your boyfriend is telling you is probably a lie."
Julie narrowed her eyes. "What do you know about boys?"
She scoffed. "Trust me honey, way better than you." she sat on the edge of Julie's bed, making the lavender echidna annoyed as she had to move over.
"His best friend is probably the love of his life." Lien admitted as Julie scoffed.
"No. They're best friends, nothing more."
Lien smirked making Julie frown. There was a distaste in her voice as she said that, and she knew that Lien heard it. She glared at Lien's smirk before she chuckled darkly at her.
"Oh honey, you're allowed to be jealous." Lien-Da commented. "I mean; he's probably shagging her."
"YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT KNUCKLES!" Julie bellowed in annoyance. Lien chuckled at her fury, making Julie realise that nothing had changed from when Mum and Dad had passed away.
"Really? I don't? The guy that you've been pinning after ever since you met him and all of a sudden he likes you?"
Julie gulped, trying not to let her words get into her head although it was too late. When did Knuckles all of a sudden have an interest in her? Why did he care about her all of a sudden?
Perhaps it was to get over Rouge.
She hated the thought of that. The bat already made her blood boil, the sight of Knuckles being her best friend was already making her blood boil and now, to have the fear that they were romantically involved?
"Get out." she ordered Lien as Lien scoffed.
"No need to be—"
"Get. Out." she growled under her breath as Lien raised her arms up, before taking her duffel bag as she left her room.
Julie let out a frustrated scream before lying back on her bed, being consumed back her thoughts.
~xxx~
"Why are you hanging out with her?"
Knuckles rolled his eyes. The amount of times his mother had asked that question to him ever since he met Rouge was absolutely unbelievable but there was a certain tone in her voice that made Knuckles more irritated than ever. Her anger was more intensified, and he had guessed that it was because he had a girlfriend.
"Because she's my best friend." Knuckles let out exasperated.
"Sweetie, Julie is your best friend and your girlfriend." his mother reminded as she placed the meal on the table.
"Why can't I have both?" Knuckles asked.
You know why.
He thought it would be a lot easier than this. Rouge wasn't romantically interested in him and Julie was. He was moving on and everyone was going to be happy in the end. Until everyone decided to mess up and make him more confused.
He felt guilty when he didn't hang out with Rouge and he felt guilty when he didn't hang out with Julie. There should be an easier solution to this. He found a solution to his problem, but why did it seem like his solution was making more problems rather than solving them?
"Sweetie." his mother beamed saccharinely. "Why would you? Julie can provide us so much more."
You. She can provide you so much more.
There was nothing wrong with Julie. He didn't mind being in a relationship with her. He was happy, she was sweet and nice with him and he liked how it was only him that could do it to her, but Rouge. Rouge was someone that he couldn't just forget. Rouge provided him with an adventure but she also provided him the reason why he didn't believe in hope anymore.
"What are you saying?" Knuckles asked, knowing the answer to the dangerous question.
She sighed, for once not having anything to instantly say back. She eyed Wynmacher, who seemed invested in his dinner to be involved in the conversation, but the worried glances that he gave him made him know that he was in for trouble.
"deungjan mit-i eodubda." She let out before she began to serve herself. Knuckles sighed, realising what she had said. It is dark under the lamp. And realising what he had to do.
