Chapter 5

Normal POV

Two years passed and a young, nine-year-old, platinum blonde boy, wearing a long, furry, white coat with blue markings, bowed to the princess as she sat on her throne. He lifted his head to reveal a solemn, pale face, which made his striking blue eyes stand out. "Hello, Princess Sakura. I have heard much about you during my travels. My name is Fay D. Flourite, and I come to you bearing good tidings."

"Fay." The strawberry blonde nodded with a smile. "Welcome to Celes Country. What can I do for you? Why have you been traveling?"

At her last question, the boy looked down. "I ask seeking refuge, if I am not finding myself rude. You see, my village was burnt down and destroyed by soldiers of Clow Country. Since then, I have been on the run, traveling far and wide, for a safe place to finally settle down." He raised his blue eyes to meet her green ones, "Please, Your Highness, I assure you I won't be a bother! I could help protect you. Since the age of six, I have been practicing magic, and, I must say, I am very good. I was taught by the best in all the land." He bowed again, "Please, Princess. I vow my life to help serve you."

As the two's introduction was going on, Chii was wandering the halls with Mokona on her shoulder. The young Chobit wore a long-sleeved cream-colored dress—red thread around her cuffs as well as around her abdomen—that stopped above her knees, which are covered by white stockings, on her small feet are cream-colored Maryjane shoes. She even wore a cute, little, red bow in her hair. Her little, white, rabbit-like friend spoke excitedly about little, random things, but, regardless, they brought such a smile to the little nine-year-old's face.

"It's good to see you smiling, Chii." Its ears dropped as it brought its tiny paws to its chest, "It hurt Mokona to see you so sad."

"Thank you, Mokona. I'm doing much better thanks to you. You're my only friend."

It tilted its head. "But what about Syaoran, Sakura, and Kuropu? Aren't they your friends?"

"I'm not sure." She replied, looking down. "I see them rather as guardians, than friends. They're all so much older than me. I'm nine and Syaoran and Kurogane are already around sixteen years old, and Sakura just turned eighteen recently. I just feel uncomfortable with it, I guess."

"Mokona understands. Maybe it's better to see them as guardians than friends." It lifted its ears, "Maybe you're destined to make friends with someone your age soon enough."

"Maybe." She smiled a little, looking at the small fur ball. Then, voices in the throne room, which they were unknowingly approaching, caught their attention. Chii quickly tip-toed to the first entrance and peeked into the room from behind the red curtain.

Sakura stared down at Fay from her throne for a few moments, despite his age, he acted much more maturely. It must have been due to the way he was raised she figured. "Rise, Fay D. Flourite. There's no need for you to vow your life to anything, but achieving greater in your magic. Your intentions seem sincere and you do not pose to be a threat. You are welcome to stay. I will assign you a teacher to continue in improving your skills." She smiled. "You will start as soon as possible."

Fay's blue eyes sparked as his face light up, "Thank you, Your Majesty!" He bowed again. "I appreciate it so much! You won't regret it!"

Sakura giggled at his eagerness, when a presence in the throne room drew her attention to the right. Peering from behind the red curtain, in the first doorway, the princess saw a nine-year-old girl with round, bright, brown eyes, her long cream-blonde hair draped over her shoulders as she curiously looked into the room. "Chii, won't you come in here for a moment?"

Quietly, she walked into the room. "Yes, Sakura?" Mokona asked from on Chii's right shoulder, "What is it?"

The strawberry blonde smiled as she gestured to Fay, who stood, staring at Chii as she approached them. "This is Fay. He's a young magician in-training and will be staying with us."

Chii took a look at Fay, before she slowly walked closer to him, staring at him with pure curiosity as she had never seen another person her age. If she could even call him a person compared to her as she was a Chobit, with those large, furry, white ears. During her two years staying in the palace, she had been taught, along with learning words, to be familiarized with manners. She knew it was impolite to stare, but she just couldn't help herself. She was so captivated by this new person that she couldn't resist poking his cheek. The only people she had ever seen up close were those who lived in the palace.

Nobody, especially Sakura, Syaoran, and Kurogane, let her outside of the palace walls in fear she could be killed by those who tailed her and her sister those two years ago. The two warrior boys did their absolute best to spend some time with her along with their busy schedule of patrolling the city and even the outskirts of it, to ensure no one had come to take away their precious little Chobit. It had often crossed their minds that the little nine-year-old should take some form of self-defense lessons, along with re-learning her vocabulary and the like, should an emergency occur and there was no one around to fend for her. But, with how busy the three teenagers were, it was nearly impossible to pursue that goal.

After blinking for a moment, Fay smiled a little, feeling awkward at his current situation. "Um, excuse me, miss, but could you please not do that?"

Chii gasped and took a giant leap back, clasping her hands behind her, looking down for a moment, then up at Sakura.

"Be sure to play nice, Chii. He'll be living with us from now on." She smiled at the young one.

The cream-blonde looked at Sakura as she spoke, then she directed her attention back to Fay, a curious expression on her smooth, pale face and brimming in her round, brown eyes. The blue-eyed platinum blonde boy smiled as he offered his hand. "It's a true pleasure and honor to be in the presence of the last Chobit, miss. My name is Fay." He bowed, "I look forward to spending my days here with you." Chii blinked in surprise as his gesture, then lowered a sad gaze to the floor at his mentioning of her being the last Chobit.

Upon her sadness, Chii walked out of the room. Fay looked at her, then up at Sakura, who simply wagged her finger a little. However small the act, it was enough for the young magician to get the message. He got up, nodded politely, and hurried out of the room. There was no sign of the young girl inside the palace, but, as he was walking in the hall alongside the garden in the courtyard, he noticed Chii siting on a bench.

Mokona stood at her right side. "Are you, okay, Chii? I'm sure he didn't meant it."

"Your friend's right, you know." Chii and Mokona looked up with a start to see Fay smiling as he leaned his elbow on a porcelain white pillar. "I truly did not mean to offend you, miss." He insisted as he approached her. Chii turned her head, unable to look him in the eye unlike earlier when she was too fascinated to look away from their deep blueness. He took his spot on the bench to her left. "I wasn't thinking clearly about how you still hurt over your loss and I deeply, deeply apologize for what I've done. I truly did not mean to hurt you." She did not reply, though. Only continued to look at her lap.

"Mokona apologies she's giving you the cold shoulder, Fay."

"There's nothing for her to feel sorry for. Again, it was my misstep. . . And to make amends for my mistake . . ." He goes in front of her and goes on one knee. "It's nothing short of a blessing to be with one of your kind." Closing his eyes, he took a breath and a blue rose appeared in his hand. Chii gasped and he smiled back up at her, "Because you are only one of a kind, and nothing can replace you. Not in a million years, miss."

Chii stared down at him for a couple of moments, blinked. He truly did seem like he meant her no harm. The ice barrier shielding her heart began to melt away and a soft, warm glow emanated from her eyes as she smiled and placed her small hands on either side of his single hand, which held the flower. Fay flinched at her action. "Chii." She smiled, making Fay gasp as she had finally spoken. "Chii's name is Chii." Her brown eyes stared down at him with the warm glow they always basked in when she had lived so innocently in her village. "It is nice to meet you . . . Fay D. Flourite."

As the two came to familiarize themselves with each other, Sakura observed from the window overlooking the garden. She smiled and her two companions approached her, straightening themselves when they were at her side. "All seems quiet for now." Syaoran reported.

"Yeah, nothing too sketchy." Kurogane added.

"Good." She returned her green-eyed gaze to the two young ones and Mokona in the courtyard below.

"Who's the new kid?" Kurogane grumbled.

"Just a new addition to our little family here at the palace." She beamed.

Syaoran smiled. "Well, things sure are going to be getting even busier around here."

"Yes." The princess nodded, her hands tucked in her sleeves, "But, for Chii, things might have just gotten one hundred times better. . . Think about it: it's hard for any of us to spend good, quality time with her and the palace hands are the ones who focus on teaching her. We were the ones who saved her, and now, we've taken another outsider under our wing." Her eyes grew warmer, "And something tells me he will do more for Chii than any of us ever could."

"What do you mean by that?" Kurogane asked as she looked at him.

"I mean, that you'll have to see soon enough to understand." She giggled and Kurogane made a face, before looking up, his hands on his hips.

"Well, gee, thanks for clearin' that up, Princess."

The eighteen-year old giggled at the success of taunting her friend, before returning her gaze to the window. With our luck, Yuko could teach both of those little ones to better protect themselves with the use of magic. . . If that all works out, I can safely say all of us will be able to rest easy knowing Chii will be safe and sound. Besides, Chii and Fay both shared something in common, in losing their homes. With that in mind, I think she'll be able to relate to him easily.

Not much, but it's something at least! I hope you guys enjoyed and I'll see you next time!
