Idina Menzel – Let It Go
Harry shivered and cast a warming spell about himself as he walked towards his detention with Snape. He wasn't sure exactly if he was looking forward to this encounter or not although the expectation that the potion master can help him with his growing magical core was there. It was getting harder and harder to control specific spells. In fact he had recently been fudging attempts in class with the desperate fear that he might hurt someone.
Thinking again about the aftermath of lunch earlier in the day he had to grin to himself. His support for the house of snakes had spread like wildfire. There was much speculation for the reason for his so called defection, the funniest being the attempt at converting all the snakes into lions. Snorting to himself he shook his head at that thought.
If anything he wanted more of his house like Slytherin still finding it difficult, and alarming, at the pure devotion most of his house had to the manipulative headmaster. If only their parents knew exactly what that bastard was capable of perhaps more would find themselves embracing other houses. The last thing Harry wanted was to be responsible for any harm to befall the innocents around him.
Even if it wasn't directly his fault, as he had knowledge of the maliciousness of the old coot it made it his responsibility to not only defeat moldy vody but to make sure the actions of the headmaster were brought to light. Surely the wizarding world would not approve of the so called light wizard, protector of innocent children, knowingly placing a death sentence on their saviour and in the process having other bystanders possibly killed in the process?
The angry thoughts turned towards Ginny and her attempts to get him alone after lunch. Demanding an explanation to his 'atrocious' attitude towards his own house and that of his best friends, before continuing on to spout how this is damaging their relationship. What relationship? Seriously the mini Weasel was not only daft but stupid as well. What would it take to rid himself of a selfish bitch like her?
It was at that point that he had turned towards her with a soft smile and placed both of his hands gently on her face. Smiling she leaned towards him expecting a kiss. Instead he whispered in the tones of an expected lover and said, "Ginny…Ginny. In this world or the next we will never be together, nor would I want to be involved in any way with you."
The shock she displayed on her face was priceless. He continued to hold her gently between his hands and his voice turned colder than ice. "I will say this only once. Stay the hell away from me and if you ever try to maul me again I swear you will not appreciate the consequences. It would not end well for you Ginny-babe."
With that he swept away from her and her cries of outrage laughing to himself. He sincerely hoped that the message came across this time as he was getting very tired of dealing with that sleezy cow.
"Potter! Potter…!" A loud voice disrupted his thoughts and he stared blankly at Snape. "Get a hold of yourself!"
Harry hadn't even realised the shields he placed around himself had lowered slightly. There was an alarming amount of power pouring from him and if he didn't control it then it would direct itself – and more than likely in a bad way. Focusing on returning the power to his inner core he used the excess energy to replace and restore the shield. His eyes met that of the professors and he was waved inside with a snarl.
"My apologies again Professor. I was not aware I was leaking magic."
Snape stared mutely at him for a moment considering his words. "Does this always happen Potter?"
"Not always. Lately it has grown worse…especially when my emotions are high. Bursts of anger tend to release tendrils and certain spells now are dangerous for me to cast. I cannot control the amount of magical energy that pours from my inner core and I don't know how to stop it."
A very thick book was placed in front of him and he stared at it stupidly. "It's called a book Potter." Came the snarky response.
The title read 'Wandless Magic: An Introduction by Rosalind Greenhand'. "Wandless magic sir?"
Snape raised an eyebrow at the look on Harry's face. "Congratulations Mr Potter…You can read."
"Could you at least try to be civil to me Professor?" Snorted Harry. He wasn't sure whether or not his teacher was being deliberately sarcastic or if it was just so ingrained that it was natural. Perhaps debating this in his head right now was not the best of times. Snape wasn't exactly known for his patience.
The potions master pointedly ignored the request. "Pull out your wand Potter and cast Lumos."
"Err…sir I don't think that's such a good idea…" Snape waived his hand impatiently in front of him as if to say get on with it. Deciding that pointing his wand at the far end of the room would be the safest he tried to channel the smallest amount of his magic towards the spell. "Lumos!"
Suffice it to say the entire room lit up brighter than a glaring summer sun. Harry looked over at Snape as the spell died down with a look that clearly said 'I told you so'.
Ignoring the look given to him by the boy in front of him he held out his hand. "Your wand Mr Potter." Harry reluctantly handed it over. "Now try again."
The glare in his teacher's eye just dared him to refuse the request. Taking a deep breath he cast the spell for the second time that night pretending his wand was in his hand. He released a small amount of magic but this time instead of rushing through him like before it came gently to his hand. It was like a breath of fresh air. No magic pulling at him trying to escape, it wanted to be used and it would willingly follow the request of its owner. "Lumos." He whispered.
Instead of the brutal blast his previous cast had caused a very gentle light spread from the tips of his fingers. It curled playfully around his outstretched hand before disappearing in a gentle glimmer of light. As soon as it disappeared so did the gentle touch of magic that had spread up his arm. He found himself sliding into the nearest chair from the rush and lose of the magic. It had him feeling extremely drained and oddly bereft.
Snape returned the wand to him and nodded again towards the book. "I would suggest you use this time wisely and start reading that book. You will take it with you at the end of your detention and report back to me at the same time next week. I strongly suggest you continue to keep up your shields and if you feel you are again losing control come and see me immediately!"
Harry nodded without a word. He hadn't felt this in control of his magic for a while even if he felt completely drained. His shields had not been damaged from the use and he felt that he could safely use his wand…well at least for a few days. He wasn't entirely too sure how long it would take for his magical energy to be recharged. By the carefully guarded expression on Snape's face he wasn't entirely sure either.
"I would not suggest you practice any future wandless spells without my direct supervision or approval. Even though you may have only caused a small spell wandlessly your body is not used to the stress. If you do foolishly ignore my instructions as you have done so in the past it could end rather badly for you. Do I make myself clear?!"
"Perfectly." Gulped Harry, not wanting to risk jeopardising the tenuous alliance between the two he intended to make sure he followed every instruction to the letter. It didn't occur to him as he was dismissed from the room that he had just been given another detention…this time without actually earning it. Was he stupid enough to walk back in there and complain? Hell no!
It was close to 10pm as he neared the portrait of the fat lady. He honestly did not expect to find the Weasel and the Busy Body waiting for him as he walked through the opened doorway. Although in retrospect he should have seen it coming. They were like his stalkers…he wondered if there was some sort of magical law suit he could string against them for stalking…or perhaps there was a magical prevention order that would stop them coming so close to him?
Weasel came up to him and tried to land a punch at him, instead Harry neatly stepped out of the way and helped the red-head into a heap on the floor by sticking his foot out.
"Harry!"
"Granger!" Was his only response. Weasel had picked himself up from the ground and was letting out some rather amusing growling sounds. It didn't sound at all threatening. "I would appreciate you calling off your attack dog."
She flattened her hand and made as if to slap him. He coolly pulled out his wand in challenge.
"Ron calm down."
"That bastard broken Ginny's heart! He has been guiding her along all this time and he never meant any of it!"
Harry couldn't help himself and burst into laughter at the absurd statement. "Never once have I strung along the mini you! In fact I have repeatedly asked her to leave me alone and each time she ignores me. Almost exactly like you come to think of it. Answer me this Ronald Weasley…what did the headmaster promise you to 'befriend' the poor lost saviour of the wizarding world? Hmm?! What about you Hermione Granger? Always anxious to prove yourself better than anyone else!"
Granger's eyes dropped in shame but Weasley's face seemed to get redder than his hair (if that was at all possible). He made as if to make another move on Harry but eyed the wand that was casually handled by the boy who lived and for once in his life made a smart decision to leave him be this night.
"This is not over Harry James Potter!" Snarled the very angry boy, he barely glanced at his girlfriend before storming up the stairs to the boy's dormitory.
"Harry what has happened to you?" She exclaimed in a soft voice.
"Perhaps you should ask your master? I'm sure the old coot would be tickled pink by all the information you give him!" Again her eyes dropped to the floor. Harry just pushed passed her as if she didn't exist and followed the path a certain ex-friend took.
He shook his head sadly at the thought of what he should have had. At the friendship that should have been. But it was all an illusion, never real. Making sure to thoroughly shield, silence and lock his curtains around him he allowed the familiar feel of his bed lull him to sleep ready to face the rather exciting challenges of a new day. He grinned tiredly as the thoughts of the chaos he was bound to bring to the school forming in his mind, these are the happy thoughts he drifted away on as he fell fast asleep.
