Chapter SIX: REMORSE AND RUINIONS
Anakin Skywalker lay on the bed in the med bay, eyes closed, his broken body trapped in the currently motionless suit he had been in prisoned by for the past nineteen years. He was trying to meditate. Not like he had as Vader – a contemplation that was induced by pain and hatred – but like he had when he had been a Jedi.
Those days were long gone, and he had nearly forgotten them. However, now he was beginning to remember that time. As well as the horrible things he had done afterwards.
Like what had happened on the Sith Temple on Malachor. When he had battled the woman he had told the girl named Lila was his sister: Ahsoka Tano.
Anakin wasn't exactly sure what had happened to her. All he remembered was Ahsoka driving her beautiful new white lightsabers into the ground. He had seen an opening and exploited it. He'd brought his lightsaber swinging down on her exposed back. After that, she had disappeared and he had fallen through the cracked floor of the Temple. For over a year after that he had become obsessed with what had happened to her, but after a while he had conceded that he had destroyed her on Malachor once and for all. A theory which had seemed to be confirmed on the Death Star when he cut down his other closest friend – Obi-Wan.
He opened his eyes to the red-tinted world he saw through the mask. This wasn't working. It was only bringing up painful memories.
He looked over at Princess Leia who was guarding him and had worked up the nerve to lower her blaster and was currently fiddling with her commlink. She seemed to notice his attention was on her. "What do you want?" she demanded.
"I'm just wondering what your doing," Anakin answered honestly.
All she did in response was send him a dirty look and turn back to her comm. Then after a moment she began to make her way over to the door. Anakin knew what this meant, by now. His son was coming.
A bitter sweet combination of excitement and dread rose up inside him. He wanted so badly to see Skywalker, but at the same time he knew that his son hated him for what he had done. Honestly, Anakin couldn't blame him.
Skywalker walked into the room only a short while after Princess Leia had left. He looked just like Anakin did before the battle on Mustafar. Yes, his son's hair was much more blond that his had been, and he looked to be a little shorter than Anakin, but Skywalker's blue eyes were nearly the exact same shade as his father's.
"It's good to see you again, Skywalker," Anakin said as warmly as he could manage. Though, very little of that warmth got past the mask.
Skywalker's eyes went wide with surprise for a moment before he collected himself and asked, "Why do you care so much about me?"
Because you're my son and I love you, Anakin wanted to say, but he refrained himself. He had already broken Padme's heart. He didn't want break her son's, as well. "I… I don't think you want to know," he told his son.
"Who are you too tell me what I want to know and don't want to know?" Skywalker snapped. "I'm pretty sure I want to know why Darth Vader has so much interest in me."
"Please, Skywalker. I don't want to hurt you," Anakin explained.
"Oh? You don't want to hurt me? Is that it?" Luke said angerly.
"Skywalker…"
"If you didn't want to hurt me than maybe you should've done something before your stormtroopers murder my aunt and uncle? Or maybe you should've left Leia alone on the Tantive IV and not have stood idlily by as her home planet, and not to mention billions of innocent people, was destroyed? Or—"
"Skywalker, please…" Anakin begged, remorse clutching his heart.
"I'm not done yet!" Luke roared. "Or maybe you should've just let Ben go instead of killing him too!"
"Skywalker, I'm sorry!" Anakin cried.
"You really think I'm going to believe you when you say that you don't want to hurt me after you've done all that," his son screeched. His voice was tight and it was clear he was holding back tears.
And he was right. How could Anakin say he loved him and didn't want to hurt him after everything he'd done?
After a few hours, Skywalker had left and Princess Leia returned, and after a few more hours had past she'd left him for the night. Anakin was honestly surprised that they trusted him enough to leave him alone for that long, but he assumed it was because they figured he was asleep. If only…
The chronometers were reading 0300 hours and Anakin was still wide awake thanks to the endless sound of his mechanical breathing in his burnt ears. His eyes were closed, only because he knew if he opened them they'd serve as another reminder that he was locked forever in the suit that generated the constant noise.
All he wanted to do was tell his son how sorry he was for everything he'd done, and how much he wished that things could be different. However, he knew that no matter what he did, Skywalker would not believe him.
His thoughts drifted again to what his son had said about Obi-Wan's death. The memory was so vivid in his mind. Anakin was on the Death Star when he'd sensed the presence of the Jedi Master. At last, he'd thought, the chance to eliminate Kenobi once and for all. He'd gone in search of his old master, and when he'd found him he'd wasted no time in engaging in a duel. Then, Obi-Wan had just stopped fighting and deactivated his lightsaber. Then Anakin had raised his crimson blade and struck down his closest friend.
The mental image caused him to squeeze his eyes tight behind the mask. No doubt tears would be streaming down his scarred cheeks if it were still possible.
I'm so sorry, Master. I failed you.
Suddenly, Anakin felt a hand on his armored shoulder.
"Hello, old friend," said the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Obi-Wan! And yes, that's the end (of the chapter. Don't worry there's more!). Please review! It means so much to me! May the Force be with you!
