"Midna..." The cloaked figure spoke as my new "friend" and I stepped closer. So that's the imp's name huh? I wondered what it was, too bad I couldn't ask.

"Oh you remembered my name, what an honor" Midna replied sarcastically.

"So, is this the one whom you were searching for?" The figure asked, ignoring Midna's comment.

"He's not exactly what I had in mind, but I guess he'll do" she replied. Great they were talking about me as if I wasn't in the room, able to hear everything they're saying.

The stranger bent down near me, blue eyes looking down near my feet, er paws, I should say.

"You were imprisoned" the stranger spoke with a guilt-laced feminine voice, reminding me of the shackle around what would be my wrist, then a moment of silence "I'm sorry..."

"Poor thing, He doesn't know where this is or what's happening, don't you think you should explain to him what you've managed to do, you owe him that much" Midna spoke up. Finally, she says something I can agree on with her, an explanation would definitely be helpful right now.

The cloaked lady looked down for a moment before looking back to me.

"Listen carefully..." she began "This place was once the land where the power of the gods was said to slumber, this was the kingdom of Hyrule, but now that kingdom has been transformed by the king who rules the twilight...changed into a world of shadows, ruled by creatures who shun the light..."

A short break.

The pain she felt in her heart returned as she recounted the memories of not too long ago, of how she failed her kingdom.

Hylian soldiers filled the throne room surrounding the room's doorless entrance and the woman by the throne, her own sword in hand. She was ready to defend herself if necessary and prayed to the divine sisters that they would win this battle that they all stood waiting for with frightened anticipation.

It was not long before the monsters came in a cloud of black smoke, causing the young woman to gasp, before quickly regaining her composure, she refused to have resolve be diminished.

However, all could was watch as her soldiers charged at the beasts coming from the smoke, bravely trying to defend their home but to no avail. It was mere minutes before victory was claimed by the enemy. Her men were held by the beasts, easily taken down like bowling pins, leaving her in even more surprise at the invaders' sheer strength.

She stood at her throne watching as the commander of the shadow monsters walked into the room along the red carpet leading to the throne's steps. Although the face was covered by a strange mask with bulging eyes and a curled tongue, she recognized the markings on the man's clothing and on the masks his minions wore.

"So, what will you choose" spoke the vile denizen of shadows "You have only two options...surrender, or die."

The two guys remaining at her side looked to her, waiting for orders. Damn, she really didn't have a choice, if she continued to fight her people would end up dying, surrendering was the only way to give Hyrule a chance without losing lives. She might be able to get Hyrule back at a better opportunity somehow...surely the holy sisters wouldn't allow their kingdom to fall so easily... would they?

Well, all she could do was hope that Hyrule could be saved. She looked to ground in shame, shame in the fact that she couldn't do anything, that she wasn't a match to fight these bastards herself. Her hand clenched around her swords hilt before letting go, dropping it to the ground in show of surrender, hmmph she might as well have waved a white flag.

It wasn't long before she watched Hyrule become engulfed in permanent twilight as monsters were unleashed upon the world, her citizens watching as the castle burned near it near its throne room while she was locked away in the tower.

"The people become spirits in the shadows, unaware of their state" The woman continued, as the wolf listened and the Twili imp floated about the air, having already known the story.

"However although the kingdom has fallen, I still remain it's princess." The woman raised her arms toward the hood of her cloaked and pulled it back, reveaing herself finally. "I, am Princess Zelda."

Link's POV

I was surprised and quickly glanced her over. Her dirty blonde hair looked brown in the dim light of the fire in the fireplace, pulled back into to keep her bangs out of her, leaving a few strands tied with ribbon to frame her face, contrasting her pale skin. What really got to me however, were her blue eyes. There was a sadness and guilt in them that I could't really describe other than to say it's the look of someone who has been through a lot, carrying the world's weight on her back.

I wasn't the only one to notice this apparently.

"You don't have to look so sad" Midna stated, voicing my thoughts. We find the twilight quite livable, is perpetual twilight really that bad" Midna asked.

I felt annoyed at her comment. Is she really that narrow-minded, not seeing that what works for her and wherever she is from isn't good for Hyrule. Zelda herself seemed a more exasperated than annoyed.

"This isn't the time for levity Midna..." Zelda spoke, quickly changing the subject, "the shadow beasts have been looking for you all over, why?"

"Why indeed" Midna replied, floating up above us "You tell me, hehehe." Seeing that she wouldn't get much of an answer from Midna, Zelda looked back at me.

"You better go, time is short and the guard will be making his rounds soon" Zelda cautioned. Looks like it's time to make an escape before we get caught. I certainly wasn't going to complain. I didn't feel like being in the prison again.

Midna climbed onto my back again and we quickly made our way to the door. A shadow began to move along the wall as we exited the princess's room, signaling that the guard was coming up those stairs fast. Midna and I both quickly looked around for a place to hide or escape through.

"Over there" she exclaimed, showing the entrance we originally used to get there. I somehow managed to get there with Midna's help and we were back on the roof, the never ending rain pouring down on us.

Midna moved up ahead a bit as I sniffed the air instinctively, though I realized by now where we were.

"Eee heehee do you get where we are now?" Midna asked?

Yeah...This has to be Hyrule Castle, though I couldn't exactly reply...now...where were Colin and Ilia taken...shouldn't they have been down in the cells with me?

"Well a promise is a promise...I'll take you back to where you first came through into the twilight...though...are you sure you want to go back...?" Midna asked.

Of course I wanted to go back. Maybe if I look for clues around the spring I might find something, that and I figured if being in the twilight turned me into a wolf, then I should go back to normal outside of it right?

"Sure you're not forgetting anything important?" Midna continued when I gave her a confused scratched her cheek then spin a simple spin a screaming colin was in front of me, another spin, now a screaming Ilia.

That really pissed me off, how dare she laugh at this, my friends were in danger, possibly even...no...I can't think like that...

"Do you really want to save them" she asked me, still taking on Ilia's appearance. "Well in that case little Midna would be happy to help you...but...only if you become my servant and do exactly as I say" she stated.

Her servant huh...well if means saving everyone...

"Here, why don't go back and give it some thought" Midna smirked, now back to her normal appearance.

wait..WHAT! Before I could do anything my body began to dissolve, causing me to be paralyzed and lose all my senses of anything, almost as if I ceased to exist.

It didn't last however and I soon regained my senses and found myself in a familiar place.
