Hey everyone! To prepare you for Dorf Days of Bummer, here's more
Royal Rules!
With Bowser and Bowser Jr.!
Rule 37: Minions
The Bowser Mobile made its through twisting turns on the famous Rainbow Bridges of Dream Land to an unknown location.
"Son, today we're gonna find you your own personal minion." Bowser announced as the car bounced from the gigantic stereos fitted on it.
"Sweet!" Bowser Jr. pumped his fist in triumph. Very soon he was going to have his own, 100% his, minion. "You're the bestest dad ever, dad!"
Bowser Sr. smirked behind his shades. "You say that like I don't know already. More to the point: It's just about time for you to learn another rule."
Junior sat alert and looked to his wise father, eager to learn.
"Rule #237: Minions. As an evil ruler (like your dear old dad), you will no doubt be too busy conquering and ruling kingdoms in order to take care of cleaning, cooking and other basic needs. That's where minions come in.
"And not just for stuff you have no time to do! You'll have minions to command your armies for you. You'll have minions to watch over your fortresses for you. You'll have minions to do anything you want!"
"Anything I want…" Junior echoed with a sly grin which lowered slightly when he heard his father's next lines.
"But remember this kiddo: You need to be firm but fair with these minions. As long as you keep them happy and comfortable, they'll lay their lives on the line for you. And not just special ones like Petey and the Koopalings; you're gonna hafta keep good PR with all of your minions unless you feel confident enough you can take a coup."
"Really?"
"Yup, unless you did something stupid like replaced most of em with robots or something like that." Bowser Sr. noticed his son thinking for an uncomfortably long time, presumably attempting to think of how many weapons he would be able to stuff in each robot before nodding. "But listen; There will be minions that you'll have by the dozens, minions like Petey and Gooper Blooper, maybe even a group that you treat like family like the Koopalings. But, above all, you're gonna want a minion, maybe two, that you'll keep extra close to ya. A minion that would take a bullet for ya if you needed one. As long as you keep him or her close, and they keep you close, you two will be inseparable!"
There was that thoughtful look again and it occurred to Bowser Sr. that his son might already have an idea of a perfect minion. He honestly hoped he wasn't thinking of the blue robot.
Finally, the muscle car reached the final Rainbow Island and pulled up to a gothic styled fortress that bore a striking resemblance to the castle that Dedede was stationed in during the Subspace incident. The biggest difference, however, was the visage of a giant lone red eye on the highest tower. A short, if gruff knock on the door later and the owner of the castle emerged.
"Company!" a voice shouted gleefully from inside the fortress. Bowser and his son were shocked to see the door they were previously standing in front of disappear like it was made of shadow bugs. In front of them was a black star with a single purple eye and what looked like the swirl of the Unknown in the black of its body. "We don't get many visitors at the tail end of the Rainbow Islands. Are you here about the Amiibo?"
"…Sure." King Bowser answered a little hesitantly.
"Great! Fantastic! Do not worry about formal introductions right now King Bowser!
"How-"
"I said don't worry! My name's Dark Zero, but you could just call me Nebula!" The Ztar turned back and shouted into the castle. "Oh M.O.B.! Could you bring 'The Case' out here for our lovely customers?"
A camouflage colored R.O.B. emerged from a set of stairs inside the castle. Banners with the red eye on them could be seen inside as well. Nebula took a sheet of paper that the R.O.B. had on top of 'The Case' in its stubby hands and gave it to the Bowsers.
"Please choose one of our available amiibo!" Nebula insisted.
Bowser couldn't help but notice a Peach amiibo on the list, but held off for Junior's sake. The Koopa Prince was looking over the list with a critical eye. He looked at the bottom row and, smashing what little subtlety happened left with a hammer, seemed disappointed at a few of the greyed out icons (really one or two, but Bowser prefers to think of it as a few). However, the child looked a little more and pointed at a picture of Toon Link.
"Him! Gimmie me one of him!"
"Excellent choice!" the R.O.B. commented. It then put the box down and (with great difficulty) picked a miniature Dark Toon Link trophy. Nebula gave it to the Bowsers along with a mysterious platform. "Just touch it to the platform to make it grow, touch its FP emblem whilst it's a trophy to make it shrink. Allow it to tag along with the boy and it will start picking up traits."
"What kind of 'traits'?" Bowser asked.
"Anything: Weaknesses in battle strategies, personality traits, physical features. In the end, it will adapt to all of them, either taking on those characteristics or complementing them."
"Really?" Junior asked skeptically.
"Of course! Battle with it often and soon it'll know your every move! Hang out with it, and regardless of whether or not it takes up those traits or complements them, it'll know you better than you know yourself!" Nebula boasted.
Bowser Jr. looked at the amiibo. The idea of someone other than his father seeing him as more than just a crying brat and as an actual menace was highly intoxicating. Additionally, although he would never admit it to anyone (including himself), without the Koopalings, he does tend to feel loneliness creeping up on him even more than usual.
On the other hand, there were parts of Junior that he himself felt like he does not know, and parts of him that he probably did not want to know. Would he end up telling this 'Amiibo' or would it find out on its own? And what would it do then?
Bowser Jr. looked at his father and made up his mind. He is the Prince of Koopas. He is the Future King. And a Future King would need minions. Minions loyal to them. Minions close to them.
"Papa, I want this one as my first minion!"
Bowser nodded.
"Okay then. Let's get this thing started." Bowser tapped the Toon Link amiibo to the platform. Immediately, the small amiibo figure grew to full trophy size, roughly a chest higher than Junior. Bowser moved toward the trophy base. "BOWZMA! ARISE!"
Everyone stared at him.
"…You people should know by now that I'm not good with names!" With those words, Bowser touched the trophy base. The world dimmed even more than it already was, lights appeared around the trophy and a wave appeared from the ground up, bringing the figure to life.
Fun Fact: This was originally part of Dorf Days, but I felt like it distracted from the main plotline. By the time I decided to readd the scene, however, the chapter was already near seven pages.
Also, I learned to never update during the week.
