Chapter five

When we walked up the steps to my home Damon stopped me. " I'm not going to come in with you. I don't want a run in with Stefan the drag. "

" You have to! What if I snap and drain someone? " I asked panicking.

Damon put his hands on my shoulders. " Then that's what happens… I'm sure you'll do fine. "

" Mckennah? " Came Caroline's voice from the sidewalk. " Sorry I didn't mean to interrupt. " She said eyeing Damon with a small smile.

He grinned. " You weren't. " Was all he said before picking me up and placing a sloppy kiss on my lips.

Putting me back down he winked at me. " See you tomorrow. Later blondie. "

" Bye. " Caroline said before looking at me. " So tell me all about it. "

I am so not up for her or Elena's questions. " He's… Very intense. "

" You say that like it's a bad thing. " She scoffed and walked passed me and into the house.

Well here I was thinking she was over it. I walked in after her and held up the chocolate cake I promised.

" I hope you guys saved room for dessert. " I said while also reciting the Gettysburg address in my head. Caroline was already annoying enough to want to hurt as it is.

As soon as Stefan laid eyes on me I knew that he knew. His body language shifted and he had to fight the brooding frown that was forming. Elena came up and took the cake from my hands.

" Where's Damon? " She asked.

I shrugged. " He wasn't up for it tonight. He sends his apologies. "

" Well that's too bad. Maybe next time. " She said as we went in the kitchen to get everyone a slice of cake.

We all sat at the table eating when Caroline had to open her big mouth. " So Mckennah… Are you and the oldest Salvatore an item now? "

This girl has no tact. " Yeah I guess we are. "

" God you make it sound like a chore. If you don't want him I'll gladly take him. " She huffed.

I slammed my hands on the table scaring everyone. " You wouldn't know what to do with him if you had him. That's a promise. " I said leaving everyone in shock to be alone.

I can't sleep. The three heartbeats in the house are enough to drive me insane. It does give me time to really think about my predicament. So I'm a vampire… Part of me thinks I should be more hysterical about what has happened to me, but another part isn't sure that it's a bad thing.

Now most normal people would say that vampires don't exist but I've always been a believer of all things supernatural. I've always known that there are other beings out there besides us humans. It's like I've been waiting for this day to come my whole life.

Like for instance, as soon as we were in that forest and Damon was teaching me the vampire basics, I felt like for the first time I could breathe freely. Things are coming full circle and I'm just riding the wave without drowning until they do.

Bonnie was right about one thing the night of the bonfire, it isn't the end. Me becoming a vampire isn't the end. Something is coming and this is the first step in being prepared for it.

Turning over I looked at my phone and saw it was almost time to get up for school. If there was ever a need for a personal day today is that day. I went into my backpack and got my finished homework out. Walking across the hall I knocked on Elena's door.

She answered rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. " Sorry for waking you early, I'm not feeling well do you think you can take my homework in today? "

" Do you want me to call the doctor? " She asked taking my homework.

I shook my head. " No I just need some sleep. Thanks. "

" You're welcome. Hey Mckennah? " She asked before I left.

I turned back to her. " Yeah? "

" Did Damon hurt you? Is that what you meant when you told Caroline she couldn't handle him? " She asked with a look of concern.

I laughed. " Elena, Damon is intense. What's going on with me is something I have to deal with. When I'm ready I'll tell you all about it okay? "

She nodded and I left her to get ready for school. A little while later I could hear Jenna and Jeremy get up and ready. I waited and waited for everyone to leave so I could have some peace and quiet. Jenna was the last to leave and I had been way past grumpy. I got comfortable under my blanket and right before I was finally able to fall asleep my phone pinged.

SIghing in aggravation I grabbed it and saw I had a text from Damon.

I rolled my eyes and ignored him. Another ping sounded and I hit my bed with my fists.

I want to pull all of my hair out.

After not getting a reply I snuggled back in and fell asleep.

My phone rang hours later waking me up from a weird dream. It wasn't a dream so much a bunch of sounds that couldn't possibly have been coming from anywhere in the house.

" Hello? " I said into the phone.

" Come on Damon can we just not today? " I pleaded.

I sighed. " I'm tired of you ordering me around! I thought the whole point of being immortal was doing what you want when you want. "

The line went dead and the next thing I know I'm being lifted out of bed and thrown over Damon's shoulder. " Put me down! "

One of his large hands came down firmly on my ass. " Hush. "

I can't believe he just spanked me. The nerve of this crazy vampire man. He carried me down to his car and threw me in the passenger seat. I folded my arms and pouted. I just wanted one personal day where I don't have to deal with anything. Is that too much to ask for?

Once we pulled up to the boarding house the memories of how I was turned came running back to me.

" Come on. " Damon said trying to lead me to that very place.

I looked at him in alarm and shook my head.

He looked from me to the garage. " Do I need to carry you again? "

" Please don't make me go in there. " I begged softly.

Sighing he vamp sped into the garage and pulled the Charger out. He got out and closed the door. Throwing the keys at me he sauntered into the house.

"You're welcome. " He yelled back to me.
