Leviathan Chapter 6
Reginald ran until he saw a crowd all merged together. What were they doing here? The civilians should be evacuating and waiting for the holy knights to arrive, but these people were all standing around almost excited for something.
The man Reginald saw earlier who was screaming about a demon in the city ran back with around forty other people following him. He was getting people to follow him back deep into the city!? Maybe there was a safehouse he missed. The crowd all clambered around in excitement sweeping Reginald with them.
A girl smacked into him and he turned to see who it was. Sarai looked back at him with an amused expression, "I found out something interesting for you." Reginald stared at her with a puzzled expression but she made a face back.
"Well where have you been?"
"Gathering information."
Reginald sighed, "You could have at least stuck with us. You're planning on coming to the academy right?" She waved a finger, "I'm not going so I can protect the innocent or whatever, I'm going for protection." Reginald nodded wearily, "You'll get the protection along with everything else the other Reapers usually get on average, but you still need to go on missions." "Yeah whatever."
Reginald turned his head to the crowd curiously. Sarai shook her head, "They are safe don't worry about that. This happens a lot for them here." "This?" She grinned, "You'll see."
The demon had emerged on the other side facing the crowd, Reginald remembered it was known as a Swamp man, a low level demon but still strong enough to kill most of the people here. He began to panic, he had to warn them. Just as he opened his mouth to shout….
"Hahahahahahaha"
Chilling laughter echoed from the rooftops and the entire crowd looked up and began to cheer. A few smaller kids pointed and one boy around eight years olds mouth dropped in shock.
A man stood on the roof, a jet black blade in his hands and a mask on his face of a laughing fanged mouth. Exactly like the picture that was inside of Reginalds pocket.
The laughing spirit
Reginald had found him. The laughing spirit jumped down landing in front of the swamp creature and a slight chuckle began coming from under the mask.
The swampman send a blast of muck at the man who simply cut it in half, the slime splattering on the walls. The laughing spirit walked forward calmly dragging the blade on the ground, letting it scrape along the floor. He surged forward and hacked off the swamp mans head clean off.
The crowd began cheering but the laughing demon still had his sword drawn. A figure emerged from an alleyway nearby, blonde hair flowing over crimson eyes.
Reginald bit his lip, so it seems he wasn't the laughing spirit after all.
Corvian held a sword in his hand as well and pointed it at the laughing spirit. "As soon as I saw the swamp man I knew you would be here." His eyes flashed, "I want to fight you."
The audience began talking among themselves.
"What's wrong with him?
"Idiot."
"Against the Laughing spirit?"
"Pfft"
"I knew he was an idiot but seriously?"
Reginald could see Kia in the crowd as well with Goro and a pretty girl who looked concerned.
Corvian pointed his sword at the laughing spirit, "I am Covian Luxian, Son of Mary and Aaron Luxian, I challenge you to a duel laughing spirit."
The laughing spirit just stared through his eye slits in the helmet. The crowd was still laughing at Corvians challenge to the Laughing spirit and Reginald sighed. He started to move forward but was again stopped by Sarai.
"Sarai?"
She shook her head, "Let it happen, his pride is on the line here." Reginald turned to her, "He's going to lose obviously, the laughing spirit is a Reaper and he's simply a human." Sarai let go but didn't say anything.
The laughing spirit simply lunged forward, as Covian used his blade to parry he turned and swung the blade knocking Corvian with the flat end of the blade along his neck. If they had been fighting it would have been fatal.
Corvian knocked the blade away and struck at the man but he simply sidestepped and tripped him with the sword, pointing it against the back of his neck.
Corvian stood up and was shortly knocked over again by the laughing spirit. He had hit him with the tip of his blade causing Corvian to bleed slightly in certain areas. Reginald was stunned, he had managed to make Corvian heavily injured in such a short time.
The girl who was with Kia and Goro ran forward. "Lily!" Goro called to her but she was already at Corvian checking him for injuries.
The laughing spirit simply turned and walked off.
"Wait…"
Corvian punched the ground, "Not yet." He stood up and charged to be knocked down again. When he stood up again the girl named Lily tried to hold him back but he shrugged her off.
"I'm going to show you….What I can do." The laughing spirit turned. Just in time, Corvian lunged forward at surprising speed and slammed his sword at the laughing spirit, who just caught the blade on his own. The crowd went deathly silent at the sudden strike, it's ferocity silencing the insults.
Corvian smirked, "I'm not backing down." He slammed the sword against the point of the laughing spirits knocking the blade slightly.
Kia shot a look at Reginald and Sarai muttered what the three of them were thinking under her own breath.
The laughing spirit pointed his blade at Corvian, "I accept."
Corvians blade crackled with electricity, "I will win, today…" He pointed the blade as it flashed and buzzed with energy, "I'm going to win."
He charged forward, The laughing spirit summoning flames along his own blade to counter as lighting flashed from his blade.
Reginald stared knowing now without a doubt what Sarai said was true. Sarai had stared at him and could tell as soon as she saw him and it was the reason she had stopped him from interfering. "He's the same as us," she said. As Corvians blade sent a wave of sparks to hit the laughing spirit from the increased intensity of the fight it became more clear. "He's a Reaper too."
Corvian roared and a lightning bolt shattered the sky aiming at the laughing spirit who blocked with a wave of fire deflecting it off of his blade.
Corvian lunged forward, "I'll beat you today if it's the last thing I do." And Lily, whom no one had seemed to remember was still close by to the fighters, smiled darkly.
