Chapter 6: Davis's Run – Erie
The new zone is a surprising contrast to the previous zone that Davis went through. While the previous zone began with the main character entering a small house in a tranquil setting, the zone 3 starts with the main character at the bottom of a sewer entrance surrounded by rubble and rust.
Davis finds this contrast a little unnerving…at least, he would be if he is not shivering in cold water. His teeth chattering, Davis climbs out of the water in distress.
This is the worst place I have ever spawned so far. Davis thought while shivering in place. Seriously, couldn't they just poof me at the top of the staircase instead of over the water? That shit bites!
Now that his clothes are soaked in water, Davis takes off his jacket and carries it as it dries. The air is just as cold, but at least it's not as bad as cold water stinging the body.
With that out of the way, Davis looks around his whereabouts, finding the ladder which leads up the entrance to the sewers. He, the main character, would not just go down the sewers all willy-nilly. This brings the question.
Why am I here? Davis thought.
Without any particular objective, Davis has no choice but to go deeper for any answers.
Turning towards the top of the stairs, he sees an entrance which leads to a long corridor that leads to another room. Before pressing forward, though, he sees a piece of paper lying a couple steps in front of him. Picking it up upon closer inspection, the paper describes an investigation report which details about the situation of the matter assigned to Oliver Victor, whom Davis guessed was the guy he is playing as.
According to the report, he is located under Lake Erie where there is an underground facility which contains a nuclear plant. Apparently there was an accident from the nuclear generator there that probably affected the city it was in, but around the same time after, there were reports of people disappearing—that part creeped Davis out a bit. The report states that he is assigned to investigate the sudden disappearances and locate any survivors while preventing any more damage being done to the nuclear plant.
In addition, there is also an extra note at the bottom that came from the commander. It states that the cause of the sudden disappearances is unknown, which does not alleviate the discomfort Davis is feeling, but it also encourages him to be extra cautious, which helps a bit.
Is what I need to do? Davis wondered. This should be easy. Just pretend that it's a rescue mission an you'll be fine.
He lost his train of thought, though, when a new disturbing sound floods his ears. An eerie whine fills the place.
"What is that?" whispered Davis.
The sounds seems to emulate a crying baby…somewhat. Normally, the sound would be ear-piercing, but in a place like this, it is unsettling.
Davis climbs to the top of the stairs and enters the corridor. As he walks through it, he takes note of the condition of the place. There are cracks are visible along the walls and large chunks of rock from the arc ceiling are scattered on the floor, which looks like it hasn't been tended to for years. An abandoned facility, a place in the brink of collapse, a haunted place? Ghosts? Perhaps, but Davis is not sure, though the place is unsettling.
But then there's that sound again: that whining baby sound…actually, it's probably a cat. Davis remembered hearing a cat crying like that once on the internet. Why is there a crying cat in the underground facility? What could be going on in there?
At the other end of the corridor is a small room with boiler tanks to which Davis does not know the significance of besides science…probably science. One of the tanks is leaking, though. The only thing worth noting is the table in front of him. On it, there are clumps of papers scattered over the surface, which is probably garbage although he did find a couple magazines and portfolios. In addition, there is a spray paint can, which he takes, for it could be of some use to him.
He shakes the spray can for any juice and was happy.
"At least it is almost full," said Davis.
Next, he tests out the nozzle. He presses his finger on the nozzle to ensure how much pressure is needed to spray, and fortunately, it's fairly easy. The can sprayed a bit the first time, but after trying it again a couple more times, the spray can jut out enough. Testing it on the wall, Davis tried spraying a "D" on it, succeeding in three presses of a finger.
After finishing it, he laughs at his display in mightiness.
"Now you know my D is here!" Davis exclaimed, laughing haughtily.
…
…
It takes him a minute to realize what he just said. In response, he facepalms in dismay.
"I need to stop." He mumbled.
Although that felt good, he still needs to get through with the zone. Finished with his fun act, he goes to the back of the room and finds the entrance to a dark passageway, its end is unknown. Unfortunately, the floor is drenched in water a foot high.
"Great," Davis sighed, "More water."
With hesitation, he enters the passageway and deeper into the unknown.
