Chapter 5: Announcements
~Phil's PoV~
It's been over a month since Emily broke up with me, but I wasn't upset about it. I never was, I guess it was already over before we broke up. I was kind of glad we did, it was too much work being her boyfriend. She always wanted all of my attention, she always wanted compliments. There was nothing wrong with that, but she was just really mean to everyone. And really jealous.
"Hey Phil!" Kayla calls to me from down the hall, my heart flutters. Today she was dressed in her usual hoodie and ripped jeans. She always wore that hoodie, even if it was hot out. She made her way to me, moving around people. "Hey," she smiled up at him. "So, I was thinking…" She bit her lip. Was she going to ask me out? I really hope she does. "We need to get together and work on that project."
It wasn't a date, but she did ask to hang out. That was close, right? Our project was about getting to know each other more and talk about each other in front of the class. It couldn't be basic stuff that someone could see by just looking, it had to be deep. I wasn't deep, I was far from it. I was basically an open book, there wasn't much more to me. "Yeah, we do. Maybe we should work on it after school at my place. Sound good?"
"Totally. So, tell me, Mr. DeVille, what are you like?" She held a pencil close to my face as if it was a microphone. She used a fake reporter voice, she giggled. "Tell me more about yourself."
"I thought we were doing that later," I laugh. "Well, I'm a boy. That's it."
"Interesting. Good to know. I didn't know that, but you learn something new every day."
Our group walks home together, we talk loudly to one another. "Hey Phil, excited for the game on Friday?" Tommy asks, he had to film the game along with his new girlfriend, Kelly. I didn't know Kelly much, but I had seen her around a bit.
"Yeah, I guess." I was starting to think playing football was a mistake since Emily had told me to try out. But I did enjoy it a little, just not as much as I used to. "If I play. You think faking a sprained ankle would get me out of the game?" I laugh a bit, but I was only half serious.
Everyone laughed, I knew they were going to be there to support me like they did every game. I would sometimes see Kayla there, but she wasn't as there as much as the rest. "I'm going to this game," Kayla announced. "I'm helping out. I'm running a booth, we're selling candy for choir."
"All I heard was candy and that you're coming to feel me on," I say with a smile. I was happy that she was coming, maybe now I wouldn't have to fake an injury.
She snorts, a cute little sound that I find adorable. "You wish." She giggles.
"Anyways," Kimi announces. "I've got tickets for all my girls to come to a spa resort! Its an early birthday present. Isn't that awesome?"
"Awesome!" I say. "I get rid of Lil for a while!" That comment got me a punch in the arm, but I laughed anyways.
"That's awesome!" says Lil, she smiled a huge smile.
While the girls gossiped about the spa resort, the rest of us talked about the game on Friday night. "Homecoming is soon," Tommy says. "Got dates?" We already knew that Tommy had a date, but I didn't have one and I don't think Chuckie did either.
"Nope," I said. "Going solo." I really wanted to ask Kayla, but I wasn't sure how that would affect our friendship. So, I was doomed in the friend zone.
"Me neither," says Chuckie. "I rather not go at all, but you guys are going to drag me along anyways. I already know that, that's what always happens."
"Find dates," Tommy says. "It's our first homecoming, we all have to have dates."
"It's your first homecoming, not mine," Chuckie stated.
"Our first homecoming together," Tommy corrected himself.
A/N: Okay, that's all for chapter five. Its pretty short, but I had another idea for the next chapter that I really wanna start working on. So, that's gonna come soon. Stay tuned!
