Demi's POV:

I awoke the next morning to the sound of my alarm clock blaring. I shifted slightly in the bed, reaching over to turn my alarm of blindly as a sharp pain spread throughout my side and across my abdomen. I groaned, clenching my jaw as memories of the previous night flooded back to me, feeling like a weight had been dropped on my chest. I opened my eyes slowly, noticing the pain around my right eye as i brought my hand up, gently tracing my fingertips over my cheekbone, wincing. I sighed as i felt my swollen cheek, knowing it was going to be a nightmare to try and cover up. I gently sat up in my bed, my body feeling achy and stiff as i stood up carefully, wincing in pain as i did so. I made my way over to my full length mirror slowly, trying to avoid any pain as i walked. I gasped as i looked into the mirror. My eye looked even worse than it felt. There was a huge purple and blue mark spread across my cheekbone and below my right eye, my cheek looking slightly puffy and swollen around the corner of my eye. I closed my eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath as i tried to lift the sinking feeling in my chest, worrying about how i was going to cover up the marks. I re-opened my eyes slowly, looking over myself in the mirror as i sighed, slowly bringing my hands to the bottom of my t-shirt. I lifted it up slowly, hesitant to see what was underneath. As i lifted my t-shirt higher, i gasped, tears springing to my eyes as i saw the bruises and cuts that covered my rib cage and my stomach. It was a mess. I let go of my t-shirt as i tried to push back my tears, letting it fall back into place. The cuts on my arms from the vase had healed over, but were still red raw and stung. I sighed, turning away from my mirror as I looked for my make up on my desk to get ready for school. School. I thought to myself, a small smile gracing my lips as i remembered the beautiful brunette that i would get to see today. Butterflies formed in my stomach as i remember last night, when we had kissed, when I had asked her on a date.. I turned back to the mirror, make up in hand and my smile quickly vanished as i realized i was going to have to try and hide this from her. I'd never been a good liar... How was i going to keep this from her?

Selena's POV:

It was 8:25 and i was at the picnic bench Demi and I had agreed to meet at. I was anxious to see her. My heart was racing in my chest as i scanned the parking lot for any sign of her or her car. I hope it isn't awkward today, I hope she doesn't regret anything.. I thought to myself as i nervously played with my jacket that sat in my lap. I lifted my head to see Demi's car pulling up in the parking lot, a grin instantly forming on my face. I watched as she climbed out of her car, anxious to see her. She looked beautiful, as always. Her beautiful dark chocolate hair cascading in perfect, loose curls down her back, dressing in perfectly fitting skinny jeans and a pale pink sweater. She made her way over to where I sat, keeping her eyes glued to the ground. There was something different about her today, something different in the way she held herself, she looked almost broken, like she was trying to shy away from the world. A small frown had appeared on my face as she reached the table i was perched upon and she eventually looked up at me.

"Hey." She greeted as she smiled weakly, a small glint of fear in her eyes as she looked at me, before looking away quickly.

"Hey there, gorgeous.." I responded quietly as i looked over her face. As my eyes trailed her features, i could make out a dark circle around her eye, making its home across her cheekbone. I frowned as i hopped down of the table, taking a step closer to her. "Dem, what's that..?" I asked as i reached out for her cheek gently. She took a step back almost immediately as she saw me extend my hand and my heart sunk in my chest slightly.

"What's what?" She asked, her voice trembling slightly as she looked away, letting her hair fall down in front of her shoulders to cover her face.

"That there, Dem. That mark under your eye.." I whispered to her as i took a step closer to her, careful not to make her feel uneasy. "Did someone hit you..?" I whispered, my voice slightly hoarse as a lump formed in my throat at the though of someone laying a finger on her.

"What?! N-no! Of course not.." She shook her head rapidly as she denied what i had said, her hands starting to tremble as she ran them through her dark chocolate locks. "it's just.. You know me, i'm so clumsy, i wa-walked into my door when i got home yesterday.. That's all.." She breathed out an uneasy laugh as her eyes darted around the field, looking anywhere but my eyes.

"Demi.. That doesn't look like you walked into something, it looks like someone's hit you.." I persisted as i studied her eye. I had been in many of fights with David before now, he was like a brother to me, we always fought. I knew what a black eye looked like, when someone had hit you square in the face. "You can tell me.." I told her as I waited for her to look back into my eyes, taking her hands softly in mine. I gazed into her eyes and gave her a small nod, trying to reassure her that it was okay, that she had no reason to be scared, she could tell me.

Demi looked like she was about top protest as she opened her mouth, but closing it again as the look in her eyes softened and her hands relaxed within mine. She closed her eyes and took a deep breathe before looking deeply into mine, the fear evident on her face.

"I can't.." She whispered, brokenly. Her voice was hoarse and tears were forming in her eyes as she shook her head.

"Yes you can, Dem, it's only me, you can trust me.." I whispered back, nodding slightly as i gazed reassuringly into her eyes. "What are you afraid of..?"

It was silent for a moment as Demi closed her eyes, her hands trembling violently within mine, her body shaking as she gripped Selena's hands tighter.

"Him.." She whispered after a while of silence.

No-one's POV:

"Him.." She whispered after a while of silence.

Demi couldn't do it any longer, she couldn't lie anymore. She was tired of lying, to everyone. To her family, to her friends, but she couldn't lie to Selena.. Her body started to shake violently as she let her mind retrace the memories of the previous night, her heart breaking as she thought back to the man her father used to be, when she was a little girl. Selena's mouth fell open slightly as she looked at the broken girl stood in front of her. She didn't press any further. She silently wrapped her arms round the smaller girl as she pulled her into her gently, noticing Demi wince slightly as she did so. The bell rung for first period as the field emptied quickly, leaving Selena and Demi stood out in the field alone, wrapped up in each others embrace.

They stayed like that for a while, Selena just letting Demi cry as she held her, stroking her hair as she shook with sobs. It was around half an hour later that Demi's sobs finally quietened and her tears reduced to sniffles.

"I-I'm sorry.." She whispered hoarsely into Selena's chest as she clung onto her shirt.

"Shh it's okay, it's okay beautiful.." Selena whispered as she stroked her hair, kissing the top of her head gently. "Don't be sorry baby.."

Demi sniffled as she pulled back slightly to look at Selena. They gazed into each others eyes for a moment, Selena silently telling Demi it was okay, that she was safe. She bought her hand up slowly to cup Demi's cheek, brushing her thumb lightly over the bruised mark.

"Who hurt you, baby..?" She whispered her eyes wondering her swollen cheek.

"P-promise me, you wont tell anyone..? Yo-you can't say anything.." She whispered, her voice cracking.

Selena shook her head, gazing solemnly in Demi's eyes, "I promise." She nodded slightly, encouraging her to continue.

"I-It was my Dad.."
