Hey everyone thanks for reading my actually awful story, if you've made it this far it's because you think this might actually be good or something which I appreciate. The next few chapters are going to skip around a bit because I'm pretty sure that people want to see Gohan and Team 13 kick some ass in the war, which means that they need to enter it before and during the time when Gohan eventually becomes a Jonin. Since in the anime, Kakashi's squad was only let into the war when he became a Jonin and by the time that happened they only had the bridge mission which ended the war. I'm also going to be throwing up polls for stuff WAYYYYY in the future that I need to come up with a plan for, so make sure to check those out and vote. Without further ado, I present, Gohan.
"Target is approaching outskirts of village, it looks like he's heading towards the Uchiha clan complex." The voice was calm and focused on the task at hand, the reply... not so much. "WHAT! THAT THING IS HEADING TO WHERE I LIVE!?" Vegeta sighed, he figured Turles was going to be pissed but it's not like he could catch the cat by himself. Dumbass was Vegeta's prevailing thought when dealing with Turles or Bardock, Fasha scared the shit out of him though. "Don't worry Turles we'll catch the cat before any harm can come to your clan." Ah there he was, the voice of reason otherwise known as Gohan. Honestly, Vegeta had been out looking for this cat for so long he'd forgotten how they'd come to this point, they've been out and around town for 6 hours already and the only thing to show were scratches on himself and Turles. Gohan hadn't come across the little demon yet so he got off scot-free in terms of injuries. The night is still young though and Gohan was posted closer to the Uchiha clan compound.
Team 13 met where they usually do, right outside of the Uchiha clan compound gates. It made sense really, what with three of their members being Uchiha but Gohan and Vegeta had to trek out of the village to got there. We find the two of them walking to their team's location now, already deep in conversation. "But Vegeta, I think that Grandpa Jiraiya is stronger than that Orochimaru creep hands down." Gohan was serious, Vegeta just had to go and say that Orochimaru was stronger than Jiraiya when they were talking about family members. "HA! That pervert couldn't even beat up a Chunin squad let alone Orochimaru!" Vegeta was doing this just to push Gohan's buttons and suprisingly it was working. The reason for that was that he had to deal with his dad's squad when he woke up and they were really annoying. Honestly though, Rin just stared at Kakashi the whole time, Obito tried to posture in front of Rin to impress her, and Kakashi was an asshole the whole time. To make matters worse, his dad just up and teleported away when an argument broke out between Kakashi and Obito... again.
"Whatever Vegeta, if you like that snake pedophile so much why don't you just marry the bastard?" Gohan grit out with anger he didn't know he had (saiyan blood sorry Gohan). Vegeta's look of smugness changed to concern, he could tell something was bugging him but didn't know how to proceed. Vegeta would always admit that he was terrible with emotions but he'll try his best when it matters. "Sorry Gohan I didn't mean to piss you off (but you did though), what happened that upset you so much?" Vegeta added as much concern into his voice as he could, he was improving every day when dealing with *shudders* feelings. Gohan lost his angry tone but the pissed of stare remained looking ahead. "Well, it's just that dealing with my Dad's team pisses me off is all." Gohan looked over at Vegeta and after seeing an understanding nod decided to continue. "I guess I'm just upset that they get to spend so much time with my Dad, but they never do it as a team. They take up most of his free time and instead of trying to become better shinobi together they just argue and posture. I try to help but Kakashi is unapproachable these days, Rin is a pushover, and Obito wants to do everything by himself." Gohan let out a tired huff, talking to Vegeta helped to release most of his anger so he was back to normal again.
Vegeta's gaze was empathetic, listening to Gohan's rant made him think about how he never got to see his father anymore at all. "We're in the same boat Gohan, honestly I wish I got to spend more time with my Father rather than idiotic assistants and advisors. And to make matters worse, Tarble is getting older and Father keeps coddling that trashling. I never got that treatment when I was younger, and it pisses me off that he was even born. I wish nothing but pain on him, that weakling won't last 5 minutes in the real world." Vegeta airing out his frustrations got Gohan's attention fast, it was a very rare occasion indeed but these things needed to be said. Gohan's gaze softened and he held out his fist, Vegeta blinked at it but understood pretty quickly what to do, they bumped fists and each gave a supportive nod in a way saying, 'We'll watch each other's backs no matter what.'
Right as this happened they arrived at the compound where they met the rest of Team 13. The greetings came as such, "Yo." (Bardock and Turles), "Hmph." (Vegeta), "Hello Gohan... and Veggie." (Fasha), "Hey everyone it's great to see you all I hope you're all feeling well." (Gohan). Bardock cleared his throat which caused everyone to look at him, "Alright guys we're going to receive our first mission today. I'd say be careful but let's be honest, it's just going to be a D-ranked mission so whatever." Bardock had a bored gaze and looked half asleep but the rest of the team let of painful sighs, they wanted action but they were going to have to wait a while before that happened. "Move out team. Remember that we go to the Hokage's office to receive our first mission, it is tradition after all." Bardock carried on like he was teaching a class but nobody was paying attention since they already knew this. The walk to the Hokage's office was interesting to say the least, Vegeta made a joke about Fasha that had Bardock falling back away from the group and Fasha emitting intense killer intent. Gohan joined Bardock after Turles agreed with what Vegeta said and a three-way glare off so intense you could see actual lightning started.
Gohan enjoyed talking with Bardock, he was his second favorite shinobi besides his dad of course (don't tell Jiraiya he's number 3 or he might be crushed). Heck, Gohan copied the way Bardock dressed (except that Bardock's headband is short while Gohan has a long headband), and it was all in what he'd seen when Bardock was fighting someone seriously (which didn't happen often). Bardock had a shine in his eyes when he was fighting that he lacked outside of battle and Gohan had that same shine except he had it both in and out of battle, but there was just something about a tough fight that appealed to something inside of him. "Hey Bardock, why do you like fighting so much?" Gohan started their conversations like he usually does, with a question. Bardock rubbed his chin and took a while to answer, "Well Gohan I suppose it's best fighting is the only thing I'm good at. And I'm damn good at it." Bardock ended with a smug tone and a smirk since he knew he could kick anybody's ass given enough prep time. Gohan considered this for a moment, "But you're good at all kinds of stuff aren't you Bardock? You're one of the best shinobi in the village so you have to be good at more than just fighting."
Bardock let out a sigh, honestly he should've known Gohan would pry into why he thought this since he was such a nosy kid. "It's true kid, back in my academy days I always scored the worst on anything written not for lack of trying though. I just couldn't seem to grasp the material outside of physically doing it and it always pissed me off." Bardock was looking at Fasha and the others but his look was glazed over. "Then I met Fasha, she was a year below me but the smartest person I've ever met who isn't either a Nara or you. She helped me get through all the writing stuff and we grew closer over time, the rest is history as you'd say."Gohan and Bardock were both smiling at the end of it, Gohan because he liked hearing positive life stories and Bardock because it brought back tons of good memories. Those thoughts were interrupted when Bardock had to step in and prevent Fasha from stabbing Vegeta and Turles with a kunai. That was another thing he loved about her, she was a firecracker.
Thankfully they reached the office of the Hokage before Fasha had a chance to test the edges of her kunai, Vegeta and Turles both shot her smug looks and walked inside leaving the other three to trail in behind them. Bardock would be the one to talk though because Fasha was outside cooling off. "Lord Hokage, Team 13 is ready for their first mission." Bardock was respectful because he was hoping that if he was on good behavior they'd get a real mission with some fighting. Hiruzen knew this and so he decided to mess with Bardock a bit seeing as how everybody was so serious all the time. "Well let's see... I think we have some really exciting D-rank missions around here somewhere." Bardock, Vegeta, and Turles all pouted while Hiruzen sent a wink Gohan's way because Gohan was trying not to laugh. But there really was nothing Hiruzen could do, the teams all had to do D-rank missions before receiving a C-rank and none of the young shinobi were Chunin anyways. However, there was one mission that nobody seemed to be able to complete and if Bardock wanted a challenge then he'd get one.
With a look that border lined evil Hiruzen reached for the most dreaded D-rank mission that every Genin team prays they can avoid. "Actually Bardock, nobody has been able to complete this D-rank mission. Do you think your team will be the first?" Hiruzen held the scroll out for Bardock to see and Bardock perked up at the unspoken challenge. "Heh, nobody can complete it huh? We'll see about that." Bardock smugly grabbed the scroll and looked inside of it. That smug look changed to pure horror at his first mistake that day, the inside of the scroll contained details for the retrieval of the cat from hell. Dammit, I walked right into this mess. Bardock attempted this kind of mission before when he was younger and sometimes still screamed like a girl when encountering a cat. Bardock looked up at Hiruzen's amused look, he baited me! I can't believe I fell for it... Fasha is going to kick my ass for this. Bardock walked right out of the office scroll in hand and dark aura surrounding him leaving behind three confused Genin.
Bardock filled them in on the mission and while Fasha paled and looked like someone just stabbed her dog the rest of Team 13 was just confused, how was it that no other team was able to catch a cat? Nobody could catch this cat? I must be surrounded by weak fools then. Vegeta's thoughts. Father and Mother afraid of a cat? God how embarrassing can these two be? Turles's thoughts. Man I'm so excited for my first mission I can't wait to catch this cat! Gohan's thoughts. Fasha saw how confident the team was and decided to get some revenge on Turles and Vegeta, she figured Gohan would be fine since everything seemed to love the kid. She whispered her idea into Bardock's ear and Bardock was about to argue but after seeing her glare decided to let it happen. "Okay runts we'll see you later, don't bother coming back until you get that cat though. Bardock and I are going out for a lunch date. Oh, and you're not allowed to eat until you catch the cat, have fun runts." Fasha had a feral grin on her face that caused Turles to narrow his eyes in suspicion, he knew she wasn't telling them something important but he didn't know what.
Bardock handed them all a wireless ear piece to allow three-way communication between the Genin. Wait, why don't we always wear these? Nobody ever seems to wear these during missions, and I'm pretty sure it's more effective than just sending somebody to deliver a message or using a summon. Gohan thought, honestly confused as to why nobody thought to wear these on missions where communication is important. Bardock and Fasha left to go on their date with Fasha having to drag Bardock by the arm to go. Bardock would honestly rather deal with the cat from hell than go on a date, dates are so boring to Bardock that he always tries to get out of going on them but he usually fails. Vegeta was chosen as team leader because Turles and Gohan don't like leading people, Gohan because he's too nice and Turles because he doesn't care. Vegeta pulled out a map of the village and put the cat's picture on top of it, "Okay, we don't know where it is so we're going to be looking in different areas. Turles will take the area closest to the memorial, Gohan will take the area closest to the Uchiha and Hyuga clans, and I'll check out the area around the Academy. Any questions?" After seeing that neither Gohan or Turles had a question he nodded his head and all three left to search their respective areas.
What came next was, for Turles and Vegeta, six hours of pure hell. Turles was the first to encounter the cat and feeling pretty smug about it walked up and tried to pick up the cat, his face was still bleeding from that attempt. Vegeta was the next to encounter the cat and tried to stop it by getting in front of it while Turles ran after it. Vegeta was bitten in the nuts and Turles tripped over him and landed face first on the ground. They chased the cat all the way from the Hatake Clan house to the ramen shop but couldn't seem to catch him. Out of pride they refused to call Gohan over because if he caught it then the whole ordeal would have been pointless. It seemed that they didn't have a choice though as the cat was now running right at Gohan. "Gohan look out it's going to get you!" Vegeta called out in panic at how fast the cat was running at Gohan. He then face faulted when the cat jumped into Gohan's arms and snuggled into him purring with content. "Awwwww what a cute cat!" Gohan exclaimed with joy not noticing the look of despair and depression that Vegeta had on his face.
When speaking of what happened later to Bardock and Fasha the two laughed at how easy it would have been if they had just called Gohan over right away. Hiruzen wasn't surprised that Gohan was the one to catch the cat because the kid was honestly one of the purest things on the planet, but he was worried about how long that purity would last when he eventually goes into combat. Gohan was actually voted as the most liked person in the village in a land slide victory over every other Genin in his generation surprising nobody. Turles did feel a bit betrayed by the fact that his parents both voted for Gohan but considering he also voted for Gohan he let it go. The least liked was Kakashi because his clan name was still in the mud and it was going to stay that way until Kakashi pulled it out. Gohan felt bad for him but there was nothing he could do, this was something Kakashi had to do by himself.
After receiving their meager sum for completing the mission the team all set off in different directions. Vegeta went back to the palace to try and see his dad. Turles, Fasha, and Bardock went into the training area to work on fire jutsu. And Gohan went to the library to study, he wanted to come up with some original jutsu because so far he only had copies of his dad's jutsu. It was on this day that a particular book caught his eye, "Ki Style: The Book of all Things Ki Related." Gohan couldn't believe his luck, a whole book about his style of fighting. Going through the book was easily the coolest thing that Gohan had done in his life, there were techniques for strengthening the body with ki, creating energy balls, teleporting with ki. However, the thing that was the most interesting was the description of a scroll that could summon creatures that only people who used ki could summon, and it was located in the Hokage's office! Gohan hurriedly closed the book and sped off back to the Hokage's office to ask permission to use the scroll, something like that could give Gohan an edge in fighting.
Hiruzen was expecting Gohan to come through his door because he had been watching with his crystal ball. The summoning scroll was already on the desk with a note attached because Hiruzen was in a council meeting. Dear Gohan, I saw your interest in the Ki scroll and it only seems right that Konoha's only Ki user has this scroll. Have fun, Hiruzen Sarutobi. Wow, Gohan couldn't believe how cool the Third Hokage was. Of course it helps that Hiruzen voted for Gohan instead of Asuma but don't tell him that. Without even looking at what the contract actually summoned Gohan had already signed it with blood and hand print. Gohan went out to the training field and picked an empty one to try out his new summoning.
Sorry if this was rushed halfway through but I'm going out of the country for 2 weeks so it can't be helped. I'm going to put some polls up on my profile so that when I get back I can start on my next chapter right away with reader input. Don't forget to review so I know how I should proceed.
