A/N: Hi! Sorry about the long wait! I don't really have an excuse…I should point out that this is more of a filler chapter, as I was kinda stumped. And I also don't have any medical knowledge, nor do I have any experience in what is wrong with little Destiny, so any mistakes are mine! (A hint of abuse if you look out for it.)
Thanks to my awesome beta, ProbieGirl1717! Go and read her stories, they are awesome :) Hope you enjoy :)
Tony's Family: Story 1
Chapter 6
Tony rushed into the children's ward at Bethesda, carrying a screaming 5-year-old. A doctor came out of a room, and started to run towards them.
"Sir, my name is Doctor Sam Henry. What seems to be the problem?" he asked a frantic Tony. Tony's eyes filled with anger.
"What seems to be the problem?!" He yelled. "My daughter is screaming in agony, and I don't know why, or how to stop it!" the doctor did not seem perplexed by this outburst, just concerned about the girl.
"Come with me, sir. I will check her out." Doctor Henry led them quickly into the room he had recently left, beckoning a few nurses in with them. "Lay her on the bed please, sir." The younger doctor ordered. Tony did so, but the child in question tried to curl into herself, causing more pain.
"It's gonna be okay, Bug." Tony whispered soothingly, running a hand through Destiny's soft hair, as the doctor checked her out. Tony wished that Ziva was with him. She had gone into work, saying that she wanted him to try and handle this himself, but if he needed more that moral support, to call her.
"What happened, sir?" Sam asked.
"I…I dunno." Tony said frantically. "She said that she wasn't feeling good, and wouldn't eat breakfast, so I called her school to say that she wasn't coming in today. When I got off the phone, she came to me saying her stomach hurt, before screaming in pure agony." The doctor nodded, and turned to the nurse.
"Alert the OR to get prepped for surgery."
"Yes, doctor." The nurse said, before quickly making her way out of the room. Tony looked at Sam with wide eyes.
"Surgery? Why does she need surgery?"
"Her appendix has burst, sir." The doctor explained, washing his hands. "We need to get her to surgery as quickly as possible, sir." Tony nodded slowly.
"Tony." He said quietly, kissing Destiny's head. The doctor gave him a small smile.
"Tony." He repeated. The nurse popped her head round the door.
"Doctor, OR three is ready." She informed. The doctor nodded.
"Thank you, Sarah." He turned back to Tony, who was holding his daughter again. "We need to take her now." Tony nodded.
"You gotta go with Doctor Henry now, sweetie."
"No! Daddy! I wanna stay with you!" she begged, as her father placed her on the bed that was to be wheeled out. "Stay daddy!"
"I can't, baby." Tony told her gently. "But I promise I'll be here when you come back." He promised. He pressed a gentle kiss to her sweaty forehead and watched her being wheeled out to the OR. He slowly made his way to the waiting room, contemplating on whether he should call Ziva or not. He sat down heavily on one of the uncomfortable chairs, rubbing a hand over his face. He looked around the room at the other families. There was a teenage girl with a cast on her arm, sitting in between her mom dad. He could hear part of their conversation.
"I get this stupid thing off today, right?" she asked.
"Depends on what the doctor says, sweetie." Her mom replied. Her dad grinned
"I thought you liked getting off of gym?" he said teasingly. The girl glared at him.
"I like gym!" she exclaimed. Tony's mouth quirked into small grin. He saw the mother looking at him. He cheeks turned a dark shade of red, and he looked down at his hands, which held his cell. He heard somebody sitting next to him. He looked up and saw the mother of the teenager next to him. She smiled at the obvious nervous father. She stuck a hand out.
"Hi, my name is Don. I could help but notice how lost and lonely you looked over here." Tony gave her a small smile and shook her hand.
"Tony." He replied, a faint blush returning to his cheeks, thinking about a moment ago.
"I, em, I'm guessing that's your husband and daughter?" Tony stuttered nervously. Don nodded, choosing to ignore Tony's nervousness, and smiled fondly at her small family.
"Yeah, my husband, John, and daughter, Olivia." She told him. "Olivia broke her arm in gym class and has gone crazy not being allowed to participate!" Don chuckled fondly, and Tony grinned.
"Reminds me of myself when I was a little older than her." Tony said. "I broke my leg twice in collage. I went nuts not being allowed to take part in football!" Tony told her.
"How did you break your leg twice?!" Don asked, hoping she wasn't being too nosy.
"The first time was in junior year, and I was visiting home for a weekend. I, eh, decided to have a fight with the stairs." He said hastily. "I lost." He added before moving on. "And the second time I was a senior. I was playing in the football championships, and the guy defending me bashed my leg and it snapped. Ended my football career." Tony's cheeks turned pink when he realised he'd been babbling to a complete stranger. He also didn't miss how Don had frowned slightly when he told her about 'falling down the stairs'. "Sorry." He said. "Didn't realise I was rambling." Don smiled at him gently.
"You weren't rambling." She assured. "Now, what is a handsome man like you waiting here all by yourself for?"
"My daughter's appendix burst. She's in surgery just no." he said sadly. Don patted his leg supportively.
"I'm sorry. How old is she?" she asked.
"Five." Tony replied. "Can I ask you something?" he asked. Don nodded. "How do you do it? I mean be a good parent?" he asked quietly. He loved Destiny to bits, but sometimes he wondered if he was doing enough for her.
"From what I can see, you're doing a great job, Tony. Just by being here." Don replied, smiling gently. She saw him blush slightly again, as he pulled something out of his pocket. He passed a little white card to her.
"Thanks. My card." He explained. "Don't hesitate to call, if you need anything at all. Or if your daughter wants to earn some cash, I'm sure she could babysit, if she wants." Tony grinned. Don smiled, nodding.
"I'll be sure to pass on the message." She said. "We must have you for dinner on day." She told him. A nurse came into the little waiting room.
"Family of Destiny DiNozzo?" she called. Tony took a deep breath, and stood up, Don rising as well.
"Thanks for the help." Tony thanked. Don nodded.
"Hope your daughter is okay." She said, as Tony slowly made his way to where the nurse was waiting patiently.
"Hope Olivia gets back to gym!" he called over his shoulder, grinning.
"If you follow me, Mr DiNozzo." The nurse said, leading the way.
"Mr DiNozzo…" the doctor started.
A/N: I know, this chapter sucks. But as I said at the top, this is more of a filler chapter. Hope you liked it anyways :)
