Chapter 6: Madness
How are you supposed to describe a creepy guy you find in ruins? Because I think I failed at that. "Guys!" I said, "I saw a guy who looked like me, but blind, and he disappeared for no reason!"
After describing the person, Mark asked, "Where did you see him?"
I started talking about the ruins beneath Castle Rock, and the papers, Notch, Os, and so on. That's when I was interrupted by a noise outside. We all went to investigate. The noise was a loud static coming from the ceiling, from the image. The screen read: "FLOOD IMMINENT: EVACUATE"
The teal-colored water started to rise, and Mark took it upon himself to save Harris, Jade and I. At least, that was what he was hoping for. "No," I said, "I will go. I can fix this,"
I swiftly swam across the rising pond, and climbed the cliff to the iron building. I tried to break it open, as last time, but couldn't. I started to ram at the door, eventually, it buckled and fell off the hinges. I ran into the room to find a horrific site: Cavern had died, and his scientists and physicians were gone.
"Cavern, even though you were somewhat crooked, you will be missed," I said quietly, interrupted by a wave crashing into the open door frame. I Ran towards the pressure control board and tried the technique Cavern had told me weeks ago. Nothing. I quickly picked up a transceiver to find it had been disconnected. That was when I had remembered the photo of four people. Each one had died of something different. One of poison, one of murder, one of falling, and one, me, of drowning. The water was up high. I had nothing left to do. I broke the dome.
The water rushed out quickly, soon reverting flooding in the building. I patched the holes I had made with stone, and dove down into the bottom of the pond. I made another hole, and swam away quickly. Soon most of the water had drained, and I fixed that as well. I rose to the surface just in time to see a portion of the cliff fall into the water. It seemed to not be able to handle this flood. I got out and made it back to the house my friends were in. I had opened it, and their faces lit up upon seeing me alive and not underwater. "You lived? But how?"
"I emptied out a lot. Let's hope Craft-Mine learns of this."
"You should not be here," a pained, shallow voice said behind me.
It was the person with white eyes, and after he said that, he disappeared. I turned towards my friends, who had paid no attention to the person. "Hey, let's go see what's changed and what Cavern can fix," Mark said
I cringed at hearing that, but went anyways. Castle Rock was gone, the old lab was gone, and the first thing Mark explored was the waterlogged lab. We looked inside to find everything inside was gone. It was an iron building with nothing in it except for one paper. It was dry and had a strange sentence written on it. '"Du kommer att glommas. Ledsen. Vad ar det vi ska gora at det? Vi at radsla". Not knowing what it means, but knowing it's important, we took it with. Seeing the once brilliant lab gone was strange. Seeing the deceased Cavern gone was more strange. Who could do all of this? It seemed to be one big, horrific mystery. One that would need solving. But first, we decided to rebuild the landscape.
We gathered everything that had fallen out of the water and began to build the cliff back in layers. It only took 2 days to rebuild, and looked even better than before. We then gathered up every last bit of science we could to turn the old lab into a museum to commemorate what Cavern tried to do for us, despite shamelessly using us as pawns in a plan to be the greatest. After all, he died. He deserves this, at least, to prove we still care. The whole thing took 3 days to build, and by the time that was done, the hatch had reappeared for no specific reason, and I climbed down it. Instead of the original lab, it was now a series of notes.
"Why are you here? Your existence never meant anything. You were left for dead."
Standing next to them was the strange person. Holding a pitch-black sword. He swung at me before vanishing like before. I climbed up the ladder and exited the hatch, only to realize it never actually a hatch at all. Am I hallucinating? I shook my head and performed a few simple tests and verified I was in fact sane. I sighed and went back into our museum. Beside the door, which I never saw, was a transceiver. I picked it up and heard a voice on the other end. "Craft-Mine industries, we do what we must. How can we assist you, Mr. Cavern?"
"What? Listen, Cavern is dead. Nobody is in charge of Valhalla. It's flooded, and I think we might be going insane. Could you send over someone?"
"What are you talking about, stranger? I just spoke to Cavern 15 minutes ago. He's right here."
A rustling was heard and someone spoke on the other end. "Cavern speaking, how can we science you today?"
I dropped the phone. He wasn't dead? "I thought you were dead. Your stuff is gone and you weren't around. The whole place flooded."
"Oh, no, son, I'm alive. And I took in my old stuff to get new apparatus. Moreover, you said the dome flooded? Whatever you do, don't swim in the water. It causes people to become delusional. Don't worry, there should be a way to prevent this. Just... go rest for a day. No work, no testing, rest. After about a day, you should be fine,"
