Author notes

Here is the next chapter for you all.

I'm sorry for the delay in getting this chapter up to you. Please be aware that I have now planned what is happening is every chapter and am planning, health and real life pending, to update this story every three days until it's finished. It should have 17 or 18 chapters by the time it's finished though please don't hold me to that since it may end up being more depending where the story leads me.

Thank you for sticking with me as well, I really appreciate the support. It makes it all the effort of writing worthwhile.

Please enjoy.

Official Summary

Steve McGarrett has had enough of his friends and family interfering in his new relationship and decides to whisk Danni away for a romantic break. Just the two of them, away from all the stress… what could go wrong? (Steve McGarrett x OC, part two of the Model Saga)

Chapter Summary

Steve breathed out slowly, his eyes fixed on Danielle as she hunched down in front of the small girl who had blocked their path and took the pad and paper from her to sign an autograph for her. The girl must have been around Grace's age, perhaps slightly older, with the same dark coloured hair though her eyes were a light blue in colouring and she seemed incredibly excited if the way she was vibrating on the spot was any indication for Steve to go by.

Part Six

Day Two – Late Afternoon

Steve breathed out slowly, his eyes fixed on Danielle as she hunched down in front of the small girl who had blocked their path and took the pad and paper from her to sign an autograph for her. The girl must have been around Grace's age, perhaps slightly older, with the same dark coloured hair though her eyes were a light blue in colouring and she seemed incredibly excited if the way she was vibrating on the spot was any indication for Steve to go by.

The urge to push her away and say no when she had first approached them with her eager request had been strong and he had struggled to resist it though somehow he had, reminding himself that this was part of Danielle's job and if he had done that, especially without her indicating to him before, that it was what she wanted then she would probably have been angry at him which was the last thing he wanted.

"Thank you for taking the time to do this, Jade is such a massive fan of yours, I can't tell you just how much this means to her, to the both of us really."

Steve's eyes flickered over to the dark-haired woman who stood beside the small girl, one hand on the small shoulders as though she was restraining her from doing something like jumping on Danielle.

"You're more than welcome, I'm always happy to meet my fans." Danielle replied with a warm smile on her face as she passed the autograph book back to the girl and pushed herself back to her feet.

"Thank you, can we have a photograph with you please?" The girl burst out, her eyes widening as she clapped a hand over her mouth as though she hadn't meant to say anything. Steve raised an eyebrow as the mother closed her eyes with a sigh, looking as though she was briefly in pain. No doubt she had already spoken to her daughter about the rules before they had approached them for the autograph, rules which had been disregarded from their reactions.

Danielle smiled again, turning her head so she was facing Steve and shooting him a questioning look.

"How are we doing for time?" She asked him.

Steve glanced down at his watch, aware of the other two turning to look at him again, the daughter with an eager look, which again reminded him sharply of Grace, while the mother looked merely thoughtful, her eyes moving over his face as though she was trying to figure out whether she had seen him before and who exactly he was to Danielle. It could easily have been a mixture of them both if they were natives to the island.

"We have enough time for a quick photo if you want." He assured her, a smile coming to his face at the expression which came to her eyes at his response, letting him know without words that he had said the right thing to her.

"In that case Jade, I'm sure that we can manage a quick photo together, does your Mom want to join us as well?" She queried; the small girl's eyes widened again when Danielle called her by name to the point that Steve wondered briefly whether she would pass out on them.

"Thank you" The mother commented, searching through her large bag and producing a camera from within which she held out to Steve with a hopeful look. "Would you mind taking the photo of us, it's digital so all you need to do is press the big button on the top and it will take it automatically." She explained.

Steve raised his eyebrow at the request before he nodded and reached out, taking the camera from her and resisting the urge to let the other woman know that he could manage a camera easily enough, considering what he used to do for a job before joining the Governor's taskforce.

"Sure, that's not a problem." He commented instead, moving reluctantly from Danielle's side to stand in front of them, stepping back slightly so he had a good angle which would fit them all in comfortably. He watched the mother and daughter carefully as they moved closer to Danielle before he spoke up. "Are you ready?" He asked, waiting for all three of them to nod at him before he continued. "In that case on the count of three, say cheese. One, Two…"

"Cheese" All three of them said together, grinning at the camera as Steve took the picture and glanced down, smiling when he saw that it was a good one.

"Done" He announced, moving back to them and handing the camera over to the woman who took it with a grin at him.

"Thank you for taking it and thank you so much Danielle for agreeing to take it with us in the first place and for signing Jade's autograph book, it means a lot to us that you would take the time to do this for us. We'll leave you to enjoy the rest of your vacation now." The woman stated with a nod at them both before she reached down and took Jade's hand in her and turned, hurrying over to where a man and two small boys were clearly waiting for them.

Steve turned from them to focus on Danielle, surprised to see that she was already watching him with a thoughtful look on her face which he couldn't quite read.

"We should probably make our way back to the suite now." He told her, coming back to her side when she nodded at him and dropped his arm on her shoulder, pulling her close to him and noticing once again how well she fitted at his side, as though she was meant to be there.

They moved through the crowd and down the path which would lead them to their suite, a comfortable silence between them.

It didn't take them long to reach their suite, Steve used his card to open the door, stepping aside and allowing Danielle to move past him into the room before he followed her, his eyes scanning the area as he listened carefully for anything which may have seemed unusual. He closed the door behind them once he was satisfied that everything was as they had left it, surprised again when Danielle suddenly turned to face him with the same thoughtful look as before though this time, he caught a glimpse of concern beneath it.

"Is everything okay?" She asked him as she crossed her arms over her stomach, biting down on her lower lip briefly before she continued to watch him closely.

"Okay?" Steve repeated with a slight frown. "Everything is more than okay Danni, why are you asking me that, is something wrong?" He questioned her back, crossing his own arms over his chest as he noticed some of the tension which had been in her shoulders disperse at his words.

"I was just making sure because of what happened out there" She told him, nodding her head towards the front door of the suite to indicate what she meant. For a moment Steve merely stared at her, the confusion he was feeling, no doubt plastered onto his face before his eyes suddenly widened as understanding came over him.

"Wait, are you talking about the autograph and photograph that you did for the little kid and her mother?" He asked her, tilting his head to one side when she nodded at him, "Babe, why would you think that it would bother me? I know already that this is all part of your job and it's something you have to do."

"So, it doesn't bother you or annoy you then?" She pressed, her grey eyes narrowing slightly at him.

"If you're asking me in a roundabout way whether I would rather they left us alone when we're together then the answer is obviously going to be yes I would rather they did leave us, but I feel that way about anyone who does that, it doesn't matter to me if it's fans or Ohana or my team or anyone else." He told her truthfully with a shrug. "But just because I feel that way doesn't mean that I would act on it ever, like I said I know that it's a part of your job which means that it's something which I'll have to get used to and accept. What made you ask me that babe? There's clearly something which is troubling you." He remarked as he moved towards her and lightly gripping her elbow in his hand, leading her over to the comfortable sofa and sat down on it, tugging her down beside him. He twisted around on the cushion so he could watch her easily as they spoke.

She seemed ill at ease which surprised him since normally she came across at all times as serenely confident, regardless of the situations she found herself in. For him to catch a glimpse of this other side to her was interesting and something his brain was keeping a note of for future reference.

"I'm asking because I know that it's your first time experiencing this happening in person. I've seen and heard it so many times before in the past when people have told me that they are fine with what I do for a living right up until the point when they experience a part of it for themselves. Normally I find, that it's at that point that they realise what it means to be me and they come to a decision that they want something from me or they stop returning my calls. I assume that it's because they feel that it would be too much hassle for them to deal with. It was worse when it came to my ex, he would…" She stopped abruptly, shifting awkwardly on the sofa as her eyes moved away from him to stare at a picture on the wall, though he doubted she was seeing any of it.

Steve waited for a moment, to allow what she had told him to sink in, before he moved closer to her, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her into a hug. He held her for a moment before pressing a kiss on her forehead before he began to speak.

"We don't have to have this conversation now Danni if it's making you feel upset, that's not what this is about but if you do want to tell me about him and what happened between the two of you then I'm here to listen. I'm not going anywhere." He promised her, his eyes closing briefly in relief when she snuggled closer to him, her own arms wrapping around his waist as she hugged him back.

"Don't we have plans for tonight?" She asked him, her forehead coming to a rest on his shoulder, her brought his hand up, resting it on the back of her head as he spoke.

"There is no plan in the world Babe that is more important then you are, if what you need right now is for us to stay indoors, cuddling on the couch and to simply talk then that is what we can do. We can always call in room service if you get hungry. All I care about is that you're happy and comfortable."

"I'm already happy because I'm with you." She told him simply before she leaned back from him so she could meet his eyes directly as she began to talk. "Simon, my ex, hated this side of my fame with a passion. He loved the part of it where he was able to brag to his friends and work colleagues about his relationship with me and he liked when I was home from a job when he had a work event so he could bring me to it and show me off like a prize. The minute though that someone approached like they did today, while we were out or in a restaurant or bar getting something to eat and drink then he would lose it." She explained to him, biting down on her lower lip again.

"How exactly did he lose it?" Steve queried, his voice calm and steady, his hand rubbing her lower back in a comforting manner.

"He would turn deadly silent which as you can imagine wasn't exactly fun when we were meant to be out on a date with one another, he would talk to everyone else if we were out in a group, but not to me. Once we were back home then he would start yelling about it, saying that I should have ignored whoever it was who had come up to us to ask for the photo or the autograph or to just tell me that they were a fan. I found the whole thing exhausting." She answered him.

"Was that the reason why the two of you broke up with one another?" He asked her, raising an eyebrow when she shook her head at him

"I mean don't get me wrong, it was certainly a factor in my decision to end the relationship but the real reason why we broke up was due to the fact that I happened to come home early from a job one time to find him having sex with my supposed best friend, who I had allowed to stay in my house while she sorted herself out. I mean seeing that was painful enough but when he and I were having it out about it, he admitted that it had been going on between them for a year and that it was my fault that it had happened because I was always busy with my job and wasn't an attentive enough girlfriend because I never placed his needs and what he wanted from a relationship before anything else." She shrugged at him, a flash of pain in her eyes before a wall crashed down over them, hiding it from him.

"Jesus Danni, what an absolute asshole." Steve said angrily, trying to hold his rage in control and his sudden strong desire to find her ex and to teach him a lesson which he would never forget.

"An absolute Asshole is certainly one term which could be used to describe him." She agreed, her mouth quirking up slightly into a smile. "It was probably a good thing for everyone involved that he had to leave the country due to his job otherwise he would probably have been dead by now. My family didn't exactly take the news of what he had done to me very well."

"Somehow that doesn't surprise me." Steve remarked with a small smile at her. "You're their daughter and sister, of course they are going to be up in arms at your treatment, especially since Caitlin mentioned you were the youngest daughter in the family."

"I'm not sure whether me being the youngest daughter is a factor but they were certainly all enraged. It's part of the reason why Cait has been treating you the way she has been, You're the first relationship I've been in since that whole fiasco and she has gotten it into her head that if she had been paying more attention to Simon then she would have realised what he was like and what he had been doing behind my back and could have warned me, saving me from the pain. I keep telling her that she's not at fault for what happened but you'll soon realise as you spend more time with her that she is always extremely stubborn over things."

"She sounds like a few people who I know." Steve commented in a rueful tone before he became serious again. "It sounds like this happened recently to you?" He questioned.

"It was only a couple of months ago odd that everything came to head, we had been together for nearly three years at that point though to be honest things hadn't been good between for pretty much a year and a half of that, if they had ever really been good between us, it's hard to remember now." She admitted, bringing her hands up and framing his face as she met his eyes with a direct gaze. "I want you to know though Sweetheart that this relationship between you and me is not a rebound at all. I might not have expected to have been in a relationship so quickly considering what happened but I know that this thing between us is right and I wouldn't change it for anything. I need you to know that."

Steve searched her eyes for a moment before he smiled at her and leaned forward, giving her a kiss on the mouth.

"I should say for the record since we're being honest with one another that if I ever meet your ex Danni then I'm going to kill him for hurting you the way he did. Though a part of me is almost grateful that he was such an asshole because it's the reason why you and I met and why we're now together. Mostly though I just really want to hurt him for what he did to you."

"That's the way I've been looking at it. I had to go through that pain with him and see what I did so I could end the relationship with him, which like you said, led me to Hawaii and to you. It sounds stupid but a small part of me feels like it was fate. I had to go through that bad relationship to fully appreciate just how amazing you are and how much our relationship means to me."

Steve nodded before he spoke, an intensity coming to his voice which she clearly picked up on if the way her eyes suddenly widened was any indication to go by.

"I need you to know as well Danni that I would never do what he did to you. I never want to hurt you and I would never even dream on cheating on you. I want you to know that." He told her, relief flooding his system when she nodded at him

"I know you wouldn't Steve, I knew that from the first moment that we met that you were nothing like Simon was." She assured him softly.

"Good, now tell me Danni, what do you want to do about tonight? Do you want to stay here in the Suite or do you want to carry on with what I have planned for us? I'm happy either way as long as I'm with you." He stated with a smile at her.

For a moment Danielle remained quiet, clearly contemplating his question before she smiled back at him and spoke, the earlier sadness in her voice disappearing as though it has never existed in the first place.

"I want to go out with you and see what it is that you have planned for us. I've allowed Simon to waste enough of my life, I'm not going to allow him to continued doing so, especially now that I've met you and moved on to something so much better." She told him.

"I'm glad to hear it." He replied, leaning forward and kissing her softly before he pulled away, reminding himself that they would have the rest of the night once they were back to pick this back up.

"So, do I have to change my clothes for tonight or am I okay with what I'm dressed in now?" She queried as she waved her hand down to indicate the dress she was wearing.

"You look gorgeous in anything that you wear Danni but I think you might be more comfortable in something more…" He fell silent for a moment, looking up at her when she spoke in an amused tone.

"Something more elegant then a summer dress." She finished for him, laughing softly when he nodded at her with a sheepish look on his face. "Elegant is something which I can certainly manage, I made sure that I packed something which would fit the bill just in case we needed it." She commented thoughtfully as she came up to her feet, her head tilted down so she could still see him. "How long do we have before we have to leave?" She queried.

Steve glanced down at his wrist, looking at his watch with a thoughtful look before he glanced back up at her.

"We have around about an hour before we have to leave the suite to get there." He answered her, smiling when she grinned brightly at him.

"In that case, I'm going to give the Jacuzzi bath a go. If you haven't seen me in say thirty minutes then come in and get me because it means that I've lost track of time." She instructed with a smile, falling silent for a moment a she searched his face before she leaned down and kissed him, pulling back slightly and meeting his eyes as she spoke quietly. "Thank you for listening to me today. I'm so lucky to have you." She told him, giving him another kiss before she straightened and headed towards the stairs which would lead to the bedroom and bathroom.

Steve watched her for a moment before he leaned back on the sofa, bringing his hand up and running it down his face, one thought in his mind.

One way or another he would make sure that Danielle was never hurt again.
