I'm so sorry that it took me FIVE YEARS to update this story lol. That's really all there is to say is here. I'm not sure how much longer the story will continue but I will at least wrap up the current story line. Mostly because I just read a fanfic that ended on a cliffhanger and was last updated about the time this story was. I figured the least I could do is update a story people thought was dead because it wrecked me.
"Wade?" Tanzy asked when she answered, she hadn't talked to him in years at least other than running into him around Bluebell. She still sounded the same, a southern Alabama accent that was so pronounced even he could hear it.
"Hey Tanz," He paused. "You think you could meet me at the Rammer Jammer?"
There was a silent lull. "Sure… Ok. Everything alright?"
"Not really." Wade admitted to her. "See ya in a few."
It was no more than twenty minutes when Tanzy walked through the door and over to the bar. Wade was sitting at the end of the bar, working on some paperwork. He wasn't working a shift tonight, just doing a few owner related duties before heading back home.
She pulled up the barstool next to him and focused her attention on the man in front of her. They hadn't been together in years and years and hadn't been close really at all in that long either.
"What's going on Wade?" She asked, worried. He didn't look like himself. He looked tired, worn and mostly just sad. It was the gloomy look about him that worried her. He had always carried his emotions on his sleeve.
He was also never one for much small talk. "I hope I'm not oversteppin' any boundaries or anything here. But I was wonderin' kindly if you could give me some advice. You know, between old friends."
She nodded slowly. She was no longer in love with him and actually their relationship had changed over the years. They cared about each other and respected the other and the past they shared. Nothing more and nothing less.
"What's goin' on?" Tanzy asked, putting her hand on his shoulder in a purely friendly way.
"Zoe are I have been tryin' to have a baby for a while now." He admitted, a small smile turning up the corners of his mouth.
She interrupted him, "Oh! That's great news. I'm so happy for you guys!"
He had to stop her. "The only issue…" He almost felt bad for sharing something so personal in his marriage with Zoe to someone she wasn't close with and never had been. "She's miscarried three times now and I don't know what to do anymore."
The emotions on Tanzy's face changed rapidly. Something so beautiful as tryin' to have a baby with someone and start a family bein' ruined by something so gut-wrenchingly sad.
"Oh my gosh Wade, I am so sorry. When did this happen?" She had just seen Zoe leaving the practice the other day as she was walkin' Dolly Parton.
"Tuesday. The last one was Tuesday."
She shook her head. Maybe there was more to Zoe Hart than she thought. She had to be strong and…resilient… to compose herself like that just days after a miscarriage. Maybe she wasn't as fragile as she always seemed to come off to her.
Tanzy's mind wandered back to her own miscarriages over the past few years. Wade had known about them because after a few too many drinks one night she decided to close down the Rammer Jammer and all of her secrets came out. Her husband Scooter was busy working and barely noticed her despair over them. But everyone else in Bluebell was there for her, as they always were.
"I know you have Emma now and you seem so happy, Tanz." Wade admitted, seeing her with her little girl gave him hope because that meant maybe they could have one some day too. Besides, if she didn't ultimately have that little girl, he never would have considered bringin' up the subject around her at all.
She knew where he was going with the conversation. He may have not been as thoughtful and invested when they were together, but they both knew now it was just because they were never meant to be. His heart was preparing for someone else.
For that reason, she stopped him. She knew what to tell him, how to deal with the situation. Her heart was full of empathy for the couple. "Maybe you two can escape for a few days. Take a vacation, it's kinda like hittin' the refresh button, ya know?"
He understood, he'd thought the same thing himself. Especially after seeing his wife the other night when they were out with Lemon and Lavon. She was radiatin' pain and misery, so much pain and misery that his heart shattered and he hadn't been able to put it back together since.
"That sounds like a good idea. At this point having a baby just ain't worth seein' her like this. We've both wanted one and we thought we were ready, but it just don't seem like it's meant to be," He admitted, letting himself feel a bit more vulnerable around someone other than his wife that he probably should have but still never crossing that line.
She felt for them, she really did. "Ya know, sometimes it's one of those things where the minute you stop tryin' and you give up all hope, a miracle happens." He nodded and she continued. "At least it did for us."
An hour or so later he was done with the work he needed to catch up with at the Rammer Jammer and had even convinced Wanda to cover his next couple of shifts he was takin'. Tanzy was right, they needed a vacation. He texted Brick who knew all about what was going on as her physician and asked if she could have the new few days off so he could take her away somewhere. Brick texted back almost immediately, shooing them off for as long as they needed.
With that he went home to start planning. Zoe was still under the covers in their bed, her breathing even enough to assure him she was sound asleep, but her cheeks still stained in a fresh layer of tears.
Thanks for staying with me here! I plan on updating this story again within the next few DAYS, so stay tuned.
Review and let me know your thoughts if ya could too. Thank you!
