Awakening

She wanted all of her. Every last bit.

Oh how her body craved her, from the tips and tangles of her chrome hair to the soft and sweet curves of her body. Her lithe lovely hand, ivory tinted teeth and blood bled eyes. All.

Yet there was one thing she yearned for most to have, one tiny, simple yet impossible sight she wished with all her heart for. A smile. Just for her. A smile not plastered on for others nor presented for their liking but a smile reserved solely and purely for her. With no other person in mind a smile that said: "You are my world."

It was those thoughts that had absorbed Kokoa for the past ten or so minutes. She sat alone on the bank, her skin tingling with the added layer of protection. Her hands dug into the earth scraping up grass and dirt tarnishing her pale fingers with worldly russet soil.

She was so confused. What had Moka meant when she said she wanted to taste her blood? Was she playing a joke? Pulling her leg? Kokoa wasn't sure. She could barely remember her sister's words or what they spoke about her mind was too taken in by Moka's closeness. Her warmth, touch, smell. Not to mention everything between them felt so awkward for Kokoa. The reckless abandon she used to contain when embracing Moka had all but disappeared ever since the dreams had started and caused Kokoa to realise her true feelings.

"Onee-sama." Kokoa uttered in a ghostly silent voice. Her vision was dragged away from the cloudless sky by the soft padding of footsteps nearby, coming from the lake. She noticed Mari, the Panda/Human morph's childish yet amply endowed figure was glistening with droplets of moisture.

"Kokoa-chan," Mari began in her strangely soothing voice. "I've made lunch won't you come and eat with us?" Part of Kokoa warmed at the invitation. Lifting herself up from the floor and shaking off the clinging inklings of depression that clung to her she stretched her arms behind her head and sighed dully.

"Sure."

...

"This is delicious!"

"Amazing."

"Like heaven in my mouth."

"Mm! Mm!"

"You sure can cook Mari I hope every meal is this good." Ruby complimented the dark haired chef who blushed abashedly while nibbling softly on the simple, yet flavoursome toasted cheese sandwich.

The taste of the food was something Kokoa could agree on, the lunch was not as extravagant as their breakfast had been but it was just as satisfying. Wicker baskets of sandwiches lay on top of a white and red checkered blanket appearing seemingly out of thin air. It was a picture reminiscent of the perfect family lunch one might experience in movies. And there were sandwiches for all tastes and preferences. Every basket crammed full of them. Ham, pork, cheese, chicken, tomato, avocado and just about anything Kokoa could ever imagine being put on a sandwich (and more) was there for them. Ready for their consumption.

Ruby took a bite out of her egg and mayo sandwich then raised a brow questioningly. "Say Mari when did you make all of this? You weren't carrying any of these baskets with you on the trip here and there certainly isn't anyway you could have made them here in the middle of nowhere."

"Ehe." Mari smiled reservedly and giggled softly. Kora put her finger to her lips and winked at them.

"It's a secret." The wild looking Tiger morph told them playfully before biting into her honey soaked ham sandwich.

"No fair." Kurumu grumbled unhappily however her unhappiness was short lived as she perused the selection of sandwiches available, chose a spicy chicken and smiled contentedly at the taste. "So good."

"Mari-chan is an expert at anything food related! Not only does she cook like a pro but I'm certain that she can eat more than any monster on earth!" Aki exclaimed enthusiastically, her mouth full and pieces of her food flying out. "You should see her go! The one time she ate an entire horse! Hooves and all!"

"I-I did not! Stop telling lies Ako-chan!" The Panda morphs face was cherry coloured and there was a small amount of moisture in her eyes.

"She might be lying about the horse but she isn't lying about the appetite." Kuroi began, patting the flushed Mari and smiling cheekily. "Why just look she's eaten an entire basket already."

"She's right," Mizore quipped in "It's as empty as Kurumu's head." Rambunctious laughter of which Kuroi's was the loudest began and Kokoa giggled too both at Kurumu's enraged look and Mari's embarrassed one.

"K-K-Kora-chaaaan!" Mari whined loudly and buried herself in the golden eyed woman's chest. "Koooraaa." Said woman only began to laugh louder. Her black and orange striped tail wrapped around Mari which caused a shriek to escape the Panda's mouth.

The laughter died down after a while. Kokoa stopped her small giggles, observing the Panda and Tiger. The two of them in their current position made a cute picture. Kora tall and confident cradling within her arms and tail the small and shy Mari... An image flashed in her mind. Kora became Moka and Mari melded away to form, her. Gone.

Kokoa blinked once and when the people in the embrace remained as themselves she sighed and cast her vision over towards her sister. Moka was sitting next to Tsukune and there was a subtle, oh so concealed smile on her lips. She, like Kokoa was eating a tomato and cheese sandwich. Then Moka shifted her attention away from Tsukune to her.

Her heart skipped a beat and her forehead tickled as a stray drop of nervous sweat travelled over her brow. Mustering her courage Kokoa widened her lips and offered to Moka a timid smile. Moka's expression morphed from shock to hesitance and finally she too brought up a somewhat restrained smile.

It's funny how people always believe they want extravagant gifts or large exaggerated displays of love, but that materialism is a weak brittle shell. All it takes a little chip and the shell will break, fragment into a thousand pieces and you realise it's the things you take for granted you want most. It's the little things that count the most.

The smile didn't last long it was gone in an instant, an afterimage Kokoa was unsure she had actually seen. It was replaced by a flat and horizontal purse of her lips."O-Onee-sama." Kokoa spoke up acting on spur of the moment bravado. "It tastes delicious don't you think?" She took a bite into her sandwich for emphasis the simple yet fulfilling flavours overwhelming her taste buds.

Moka nodded her head in response and likewise took a bite from her sandwich. "The taste really is wholesome, you've outdone yourself Mari." Said person smiled happily at yet another compliment.

"Do you want anymore?" Kokoa continued on pressing her courage for all its worth. She stuck out her hand containing the other half of her sandwich. Moka's eyes widened in surprise at the gesture. "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" Kokoa scolded herself. "She's not even done with her own yet. Stupid!"

"No, I'm satisfied with what I have now." Moka remarked. Kokoa pulled away her hand as if she'd been shot. The item in her hand seemed to triplicate in weight.

"Y-Yeah..." Kokoa replied meekly.

"I'll take it." Kora spoke up quickly and reached over to take the sandwich. "Tomatoes are my favourite vegetable."

"Actually I think it's classified as a fruit these days Kora," Commented Kuroi with a causal flick of her tail. "But my my how rude of you to hand over Mari's food like that Kokoa. Don't you like it?"

"I do!" Kokoa roared up defending herself. Truth be told she actually really wouldn't have minded finishing the other half but now that wasn't possible anymore. Reluctantly she handed over the last half to Kora. "I'm just full."

It's even funnier how easy it is to tell lies.

...

Three days had gone by since they first arrived at this bizarre holiday lodge. Outer Moka and Inner both possessed a day each and made do with their shared day had been something new, climbing the mountain, lazing around, board games, charades, cooking contests(which Mari always won), strength contests(which caused Moka and Kora to almost break the mountain), natural baths, feasts every night and probably the most amazing thing of all a game of scrabble which had been won(a landslide victory in truth) by Aki...

Now everyone had been taken to a lustrous garden, filled with flower upon blooming flower of just about every colour the mind could conjure up. To Ruby's pressing requests we had spent the entire day there while she and Yukari studied, noted and with much begging picked flowers until their hands were cut and dirty, their bags stuffed and bloated.

The trek back had started as soon as the Witched were done and they'd had another gargantuan picnic. The sunny sky was quickly blotted out by ominous clouds, grey and heavy ready to rain their sorrows on the world below. The Masters had become uneasy looking up at the clouds with a sense of foreboding.

Curious Mizore approached Kuroi who had morphed back into feline form and asked her what the concern was.

"It's not concern at all." Kuroi laughed as she sprung an unnatural height to a branch in the tree. "It's just none of us really like the rain. You have no idea how much of a pain wet fur is. Its cold it clamps down on you, makes you shiver and look like a stray. Basically a really bad and miserable hair day,"

*drop*

A sing droplet fell from the sky landing directly on Mizore. The droplet was quickly followed by others and soon a light drizzle had started. Kuroi groaned and tried to take cover under the leafiest tree she could find.

The canopy of the forest was dense but the rain still poured down onto the tops of the trees. Droplets trailing down the leaves collecting together until their weight was too much to bare and the leaf gave way letting he water cascade down in a miniscule but icy waterfall. Kuroi soon discovered this as the tree she was sheltering under dropped onto her a large portion of the cold rain water. She screeched in surprise and darted forward dashing through the woods.

"Gah damn it this sucks. SO SO cold! See you back at the cabins!" She shouted back, her form grew tail lengthened and muscles bulged. Kuroi had surprisingly grown to the size of an actual panther.

"Hey Kuroi wait for me!" Aki ran after the Black Panther her size now matching Kuroi's to try and keep up with her speedy form.

"I never knew you guys could do that," Tsukune spoke up, eyes wide in amazement.

"There are many things about us you don't know" Was Kora's stark reply. She unlike the others didn't seem to be affected by the rain or cold. Mizore had read somewhere that tigers could swim, well more than that they actually enjoyed taking a dip. Did the little quirks of their adopted animal pass onto them as well?

Mari had taken a liking to Kokoa and said vampire had begrudgingly agreed to carry the panda. Kokoa pretended to remain indifferent at the panda's request but it was clear as day to everyone how much Kokoa enjoyed being able to hold the fluffy black and white ball.

"Hey Mizore," Kurumu whispered her voice low and suspicious. She tugged on Mizore's wet sleeve and drew her eyes over to where Kurumu's finger was pointing. "What is that?"

"What's what?" Mizore strained her vision looking further into the woods, past several rows of trees She began to make out a figure, small and twirling around. Faint laughter echoed through the woods as the figure continued to turn and turn, every step on the drenched earth scattering the skies fallen teardrops in all directions. Soon there were two voices, distinctly different from each other and both joined in their laughter. Mizore spotted another figure sitting with high knees and hands covering its eyes. The first figure continued to dance around the second who squealed in delight whenever the water flew its way.

"Amefurikozo," Kora said as she trotted in front of Mizore and Kurumu. "Rainfall Kids. They're spirits that only appear when it rains. They don't do anything but frolic and waste all their useless energy. So unproductive."

"I like to watch them, it makes me at ease." Mari told them as she turned herself around in Kokoa's arms to look the spirit kids.

"Yeah, it is kind of peaceful just watching them." Kurumu leaned into Mizore as she said this. Her rain ridden skin was cool to the touch. Mizore didn't respond just continued to stare into the woods as more and more of the spirits began to dance and twirl around in a giant circle all taking turns to sit in the middle and be rained on from above, below and every direction.

Yukari broke their trance. "Where's Tsukune?" Mizore and the rest all cast their eyes around trying to spot the missing teen.

"Actually I saw him get dragged away by Moka." Fang Fang spoke up pointing in the opposite direction of the Rainfall Kids.

"Onee-sama took him?" Kokoa said looking in the direction Fang Fang had gestured. That's not the way towards the camp Mizore noted and cast an eye at Kurumu.

"What's that woman trying to pull!" Kurumu suddenly exploded. "Trying to steal Tsukune away while we're all distracted. That's just low Moka!" Before Mizore could try and calm her down the Succubus bat-like leathery wings grew from her back, quickly accompanied by her black and ever nimble tail. Kurumu jumped into the air and flew in hot pursuit of Tsukune and Moka.

"Don't go chasing after them!" Kora roared, her words were drowned away by the rain. "Tsch. Damn it."

"What's the problem?" Mizore asked panic beginning to rise inside her at Kora's worried expression.

Kora darted an eye toward the spirits who had now amassed a cry of well over twenty. "If there's this many Rainfall Kids hungrier Yokai are bound to be attracted to this area."

It had taken less than a second for Mizore to start her pursuit of Kurumu, the threat of putting herself in danger pushed down by the prospect of an enraged Kurumu in trouble.

"Wait!" Mizore heard Kora shout at her, but she pretended not to notice and ran further away, trying to catch up with Kurumu. If they were together then they'd be unstoppable. But until then...

"I'll go fetch her." Mari said, dismounting from Kokoa's arms and growing to twice the size of a normal panda bear, her steps were clumsy and heavy yet she moved with the speed and recklessness of a raging rhinoceros.

Then Kokoa ran off.

"WAIT A GODDAMN SECOND ALL OF YOU!" Kora bellowed enraged at the clear lack of all obedience. She tripled her size and bristled her fur in seething rage. "DON'T ANY OF YOU MOVE ANOTHER MUSCLE!" The two remaining witched and Fang Fang froze up immediately.

"My, My. I leave you for ten minutes and you lose everybody. You're pretty hopeless Kora."

"Kuroi," Kora's expression had tamed down slightly.

"Got it. I'll go after the brat."

"Aki take these three back to the cabins." Kora commanded the re-appeared fox.

"I'll go find Moka."

...

"Come with me Tsukune." Moka dragged him silencing his protests with a glare. Together they left everyone else still enraptured by the mystical rain spirits.

"M-Moka-san?" She recognised the question in his voice but didn't offer a reply. Once they were far enough that Moka was satisfied she let go of Tsukune.

"Show me your throat Tsukune."

"What? If you want a drink you just needed to ask Moka-san. You didn't have to drag me all the way out here." The rain continued to pour and both of them were soaked. Tsukune unbuttoned his collar and pulled his shirt away straining his neck upwards while doing so. His neckline was glistening with moisture, beads of rainwater tracing the contours of his skin and dripping down to his chiselled chest.

Without hesitation Moka plunged her fangs into Tsukune, nipping the vein with her teeth and sucking up his blood with abashed enthusiasm. His blood now had tints of power and Youkai flecked into it but the taste she had desired was still there.

Quickly she pulled apart from his throat licking off the traces of blood that remained on her fangs. With a gasp Tsukune held his had up to his throat covering the incision, a stupid smile plastered onto his face.

"Are you satisfied Mo—"

She shut his mouth with hers, pressing her lips forcibly against his and sliding her tongue in. Tsukune froze and tensed up but soon relented and began to kiss Moka back.

"Are you satisfied?" Moka asked, pulling apart from the kiss. Dumbly Tsukune nodded. And again she kissed him.

Seeking from this embrace, an answer.

...

"Kurumu! Kurumu!" Mizore's voice rang loud and beckoning, trying to reach the Succubus. "Kurumu where are you!?" Her lungs had started to burn from her exertion but she continued to run undeterred by the worsening weather or fear the fear of solitude.

"Kurumu!" A sharp whizzing sound appeared flew over Mizore's head in a brown flash. He surprise brought Mizore to a halt. She heard another whiz to her left and ducked as something came flying at her with surprising speed. Narrowly she avoided it, too late though she noticed another one and couldn't react in time. There was a sharp stinging pain from her cheek and thick blood rose up to meet the wound.

Mizore reared back with a grunt, her lollipop flying out of her mouth. Pain flooded through her leg and she collapsed. Another wound opened up on her thigh deeper than the one on her cheek and bleeding heavily. Mizore cried out as another shot of pain travelled through her body from her arm, she closed her hand around the wound and felt her warm thick blood leak through the crevices in her fingers.

The whizzing sound was everywhere now and the brown shaped continued to move in speedy blurs she could only barely follow with her eyes. She closed her eyes to try and push out the pain and heard the telltale growth in volume which signalled one of the spinning objects was travelling closer to her. With a shout Mizore conjured up a flurry of ice and shot them through her finger tips.

There was an animalistic shriek as her ice picks made contact and the brown form was flung backwards and impaled on the rough bark of a nearby tree. The form shuddered and spasmed riding out the throes of death. Mizore took the opportunity to study the creature. It was small and rodent shaped with black beady eyes and a too pointy ugly nose. The most interesting features however were its bladed tail and arms, the edges of the sword-like blades glinting with bloodthirsty malice.

"What?" Mizore didn't have much time to think however as another one came at her spinning at high speed. The creatures were like saws rotating quickly to try and slice up their prey. With a grunt of effort and still clutching her wounded arm she ungracefully flung herself into a tree and brought up a wall of ice to protect herself.

With a loud crash her wall was shattered as multiple of the spinning rodents attacked it at once, Mizore ducked again and conjured up another wall thicker than the last. One flew in before the wall had completely formed. Transforming her hands into an icy sword she sliced at it, chopping its body in half and stopping its assault. She took a moment to breathe and clear her head thinking of what to do.

"Hghhhya!" Mizore heard a deep grunt and the thud of multiple bodies hitting the floor. She collapsed her wall and was greeted with the vision of an extremely huge and fierce looking Mari. She was easily three times as high as Mizore and she batted at the flying rodents as if they were pesky flies.

Mari's size was disadvantageous in this situation. More of the rodents had appeared and her large form was slowing her down. As more and more of them came they attacked in shorter intervals, leaving Mari less and less time to recover. Whenever Mari managed to bat at one three more had already flown past wounding her.

Transforming her arms into long ice claws Mizore rushed forward intercepting one of the rodents in midair. A sound like clashing blades began to resonate through the forest as Mizore swung at the airborne enemies. Every volley was completed in split seconds. Clash, hold back, change trajectory and cut. The process quickly became routine. However as the rodents numbers dwindles so too did Mizore's energy.

Her movements were slowing and she was finding it harder and harder to hold them back when they attacked. "Are you alright Mizore?"

"This is nothing." Mizore replied in between breaths. She clapped her hands together and brought them thrusting towards the ground. In a semicircle ahead of her shards of ice sprung up impaling multiple bladed rodents upon them. With a sigh Mizore rubbed the sweat off her forehead feeling her exhaustion piling up.

"Don't let your guard down Mizore!" Mari commanded her and with a skilful change of size and a powerful jump she propelled herself over Mizore's head. Landing on top of Mizore's shoulders and swatting at yet another rodent, sending it crashing away with a loud squeal. Mari held out her arms in front of her shouting out a chant. The air began to haze up with heavy mist and with multiple thuds all the remaining rodents fell to the ground. Bellies bloated and eyes rolled back in slumber

Mizore blinked at the strange power but insead of questioning it she sighed in momentary relief not seeing any more of the bizarrely bladed rodents. "What were those?"

"Kamaitachi. They're bladed weasels that are quite hostile to those intruding on their territory. And they hunt in packs."

"Are there more of them?"

"Those were the last of them, I can't detect anymore nearby." Mari had dismounted and was currently in human form bending over to analyze Mizore's wound. "You've got some nasty cuts."

"I'm okay, what about you?"

"I'm tougher than I look you know," And she was right. Mizore didn't notice a single scratch on Mari. It was surprising considering how she seemed to have taken a lot of hits from the kamaitachi. "This is going to sting a little bit," Mari warned as she took out a salve of various herbs from her pocket, tenderly she applied the concoction upon Mizore's open wounds. The sting was sharper than anticipated, grinding her teeth so as to not wince Mizore clamped her mouth tightly shut. "You shouldn't have run off like that."

Mizore didn't deign the Master with a reply. It was merely a fact Mari was obligated to state. Still there was a sense of urgency that was slowly eating its way into Mizore's body as she doted here, fixing up her wounds. They were just scratches, she had to get moving now. Kurumu was slowly getting further and further away. The wounds on her arms and legs were now burning with an intense heat, the heat was concentrated within the muscles and tendons of her limbs. Yet as the heat increased she watched in awe as her open cuts stopped seeping her blood, thinned and her skinned knitted together like mended tears on a woollen coat.

"Most of your wounds were pretty shallow so the salve should be enough," Mari told her as she crushed a light amount of the salve onto her fingertips. "But the one on your leg was pretty deep. It should reduce the pain a bit and keep it from bleeding but you need proper treatment."

"It's fine." Mizore replied stubbornly, she avoided Mari's fingertips as they tried to reach the cut on her cheeks. "I can go on like this." She placed some weight onto her left leg, the adrenaline had worn off and a slow steady pain was beginning to throb within her limb.

"If you put strain on it you'll just open up the wound again." Mari said with a light tut tut. "I don't think Kurumu would appreciate it if you injured yourself more."

"I don't care what she appreciates." Mizore snapped back, her voice cutting into the gentle Panda like a cold vein of ice. "She's an idiot and right now she's a moody one too. She can't look after herself."

"Mizore I understand how you feel but you mustn't put yourself in more danger, Kora will find her. If your wound opens up again you'll just worry everybody."

Mizore's limbs were starting to feel heavy and sluggish, her brow quickly became slick with sweat as an uncomfortable heat began to creep into her icy form. "I've been through worse."

"Please don't push yourself, I can carry you back." Mari offered to Mizore, concern seeping out of her soft voice.

"I don't want to go back." Mizore grit her teeth growing more uncomfortable by the second as her body temperature continued to rise higher and higher.

"Mizore..."

"I've got to get to her alright! I've got to get to her or else something terrible might happen! I'm not blind and neither is she! We both know that it's impossible that she's all he see's but we can't acknowledge it openly because if we do who knows what might happen to Kurumu twice already she's almost been broken and both times I wasn't there! I want to be there this time, I've got to be there because if I'm not and she sees something she can't then I don't know what might happen!"

Oh God she was burning up, the heat was relentless and brutal. She felt like stripping off all her clothes and lying down as the cold raindrops pelted at her flaming skin. It seemed to her that the moment a drop touched her body it would evaporate instantaneously, the cool she wanted from it vanishing with it.

"I'm not worried about her body," Her voice was quieting with each word she spoke as all her energy began to seep out from her to feed the raging fire residing within. "It's her heart."

She didn't even feel it when she hit the ground, with a bodiless thud suddenly everything was upside down. The word before her eyes became an indefinable blur, spiralling together in meaningless haphazard patterns as fickle as the wind. She felt like ice, motionless and melting. As more time passed she became smaller, more incapable of saving herself.

Did Mari just scream my name? How long has she been here? Why was everything so hot?

Where's Kurumu?

...

She was in the sky...flying like a bird. She didn't have wings though, or at least not the avian kind. Her arms were still hers. She lacked feather as well and she didn't have a beak.

She was flying like a bird but she was not a bird. The rain was chilly, soaking her clothes and increasing her weight. She had to beat twice as hard to keep steady in the wind. A storm was growing and she was flying ever deeper into it. Searching.

The rain drops on her cheeks...were warm.

She found what she was searching for. She dived down, metres away from it. Suddenly she was very cautious, creeping forward slowly step by step. She didn't hear anything, why? Peeking her head over some low green bushes she spotted what she was searching for.

But she had lost. It was stolen, taken away by another. One she could never hope to meet. The rain drops stopped falling, only streaks of what once existed were left on her cheeks. Disappearing alongside these drops was her hope.

Her treasure was snatched, it had slipped through her fingertips. Or had she really ever been close to it? Was there ever a moment where her treasure was closest to her? Her treasure saw her, the thief was pushed away. She didn't want to see anymore. Already as her treasure tried to shout meaningless words at her she was flying again.

Her heart heavy as lead, as fragile as silence.

...

"Hey what do you think you're doing brat?"

I don't even know myself. Kokoa though to herself as her legs pounded down on the soft earth. The ground was muddy due to the rain and her bare legs were coated in brown layers of slick slimy as well as hard and crusty mud. This was probably another thing she really disliked about herself she was too impulsive. She heard the forest was dangerous, saw Mizore starting to run and followed suit? Why? To save Moka? Currently Moka and Tsukune were the two of the most powerful Youkai in existence what was she hoping to do?

Even worse was how stubborn she was. She knew that what she was doing was pointless but did she stop running? No. Would she admit to anyone she was wrong? Never. Would she try to hopelessly explain every stupid decision she ever made and in the process make a fool of herself? Always. Not that she'd ever tell Kuroi that.

"It's none of your business!" Was Kokoa's stubborn reply. Kuroi was jumping ahead of her from branch to branch staying under the cover of the trees. Kokoa couldn't see it but she felt that right now Kuroi was rolling her eyes at her childishness. Ko-chan flew overhead, a constant companion.

"Well at the very least you'll have nice smooth legs after this from all that wonderfully filthy mud. One part of you at least will be pleasant to look at."

"Just shut up you stupid cat!" Kokoa's hands were in tightened balls as she ran, her face was red not from exertion but from Kuroi. The sly Panther with all her witty remarks was irritating her more and more as each day passed. Kuroi had decided early on that Kokoa was her least favourite guest and made every effort possible to constantly pick on the fiery redhead. Mari and Kora would try to stop her teasing but it would always lead to a quarrel between Tiger and Panther and eventually Kuroi laying in the dirt far away, a scar in the land to show her trajectory.

"Oh that's a good one. Such exuberant adjectives and you've reduced me to a mere house feline. I've never thought of that one before. You're a real bright spark beetroot. Oh see what I did there!" Kokoa stopped her jogging and spun herself around, face and temper ignited. "That's exactly what I mean."

"Just keep quiet I don't care what you have to say!" Kuroi stopped one branch in front of Kokoa and looked down at Kokoa with amused purple eyes. "Why are you following me anyway? Wouldn't you rather be rolled up in a ball in front of some fire purring while someone scratches your ears?"

"To tell the truth," Kuroi began as she vaulted from her branch, transforming midair into her human form. Lithe as a cat she landed on her feet not making a single splash on the wet earth and brought her eyes up to meet Kokoa's. "I'd much rather be anywhere right now than stuck with you in the rain, but my darling Kora wanted me to you fetch you before you get yourself into trouble. This forest is a scary place when you're all alone."

"I don't need your help." Kokoa snarled as she started to walk away from Kuroi.

"And I don't need you to be such a brat. Just come back already. What are you hoping to do anyway? From what I gathered Moka can handle herself. Are you super clingy or something?" Kuroi had caught up again and she was continuing to pester Kuroi with her meaningless remarks. "Or maybe you're hoping to catch those two doing something nasty."

"Why would I want to see those two doing anything you perverted little cat!?"

"Oh, did I strike a nerve?"

"As if!"

"Now that we're done having a nice little chat and a lovely walk why don't we go back? I'm feeling a little bit peckish." Kuroi was walking beside Kokoa now her hands behind her head as she continued to walk casually beside the enraged Vampiress.

"If you want me to back why don't you just drag me back!"

"No thanks. I don't want to get bitten or anything. You might just taste my delectable blood and grow addicted to it. You sick freak."

"I'm not going to bite you! And I bet your blood would probably taste as good as dirt!"

"Not going to bite me she says, but you can't trust the words of savages. Even less the words of hormonal pubescent teenage girls. Backstabbing dykes the whole lot of them." Kuroi tutted as she shook her head in deep disappointment. Kokoa stood bewildered at the obviously crazy Panter.

"I don't get you at all! You're just, just―"

"Crazy." Kokoa eyes widened at the gruff low voice, rumbling behind her. "She looked behind her to see an ape-like creature, perched on a rock Kokoa didn't remember passing. The ape's eyes were lifeless and beady, tracking every movement she made.

"What is that?" The creature said, as if reading the question Kokoa had not yes phrased. "I was going to say that." It continued again speaking Kokoa's thought before she could. "How is it doing that? Can it read my mind, no way."

"Kokoa get away!" She heard Kuroi shout at her, but Kokoa couldn't move. She was frozen in place by the strange ape creature. She felt bare and open, her deepest thought being read like a book.

"Stop that, hey no." It continued on in a drone-like voice, devoid of emotion and feeling. Panic slowly trickled its way into her body. Dripping like an open faucet. Each word the creature spoke another drop, speeding up her heart and mind. "It won't stop, why won't it stop? Someone make it stop." Shooting thought after thought at her its beady eyes remained fixed on her and she only felt like running away. "Moka."

"Quickly Kokoa think of something else don't let it pop thoughts into your head. Things will just get worse!" Kuroi shouted out commands at her and Kokoa tried desperately to follow them.

"Keep your thoughts away from Moka, don't let it see Moka." The ape continued reading into her mind. Her attempts were all in vain one though always lead to another, once Moka was mentioned she forced herself to think of something that was not Moka but by signalling her brain to imagine not Moka her thoughts naturally strayed away from her intentions.

"No it's not working. Kuroi's here. Moka's blood is delicious, I love it so much. I'm addicted. Everything about her is perfect. Does Moka love me? Why can't I remove her Rosario? I love her I want to protect her so why can't I remove it? Don't I meet the requirements? Why what's wrong with me just because I'm her sister I can't lover her? I'm not allowed to love her? Why what's wrong with that how could I not lover her Moka is so perfect I want to be just like Moka. That's right I love Moka in a way I shouldn't. I want to fuck my sister."

Kokoa felt her blood go cold.

"Moka's so pretty. I want her. Moka's mine. It would be better if Tsukune was dead. Why must I be her sister? Why is she so cold? I want her to hold me, to touch me. No it's not like that. It's exactly like that. The immorality of lusting for my sister, yes my Onee-sama she's all mine. I want to push her down and feast on her body. If Tsukune's gone I can snatch her for me and only me. Why can't I have her. Moka please love me, please."

"NO STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT!" In a desperate attempt to stop the invasion Kokoa held her hands to her ears, trying to block out the ape's words. She felt the warmth and moistness of tears gathering in her eyes and soon she was crying, she fell to her knees. "NO MORE PLEASE!"

"But Moka doesn't love me, why would she I'm pathetic. She's too great for me. She loves Tsukune I know she does I know she does. I'm a freak, a disgusting freak. If anyone ever knew. I was supposed to crush these feelings but it's too hard, I love her too much. Someone knows. I want Moka to be mine. That's never going to happen it's impossible. Impossible. Impossible. Impossible. Onee-sama I want you. Make love to me."

Uselessly she shut her eyes and blocked her ears trying to make herself disappear to erase this entire situation, to bring it to an end. "Stop..." Something flew over her head and she heard a thud. Ko-chan had flown into the ape. Knocking it off its perch, before touching the ground the ape disappeared. Its existence had been removed from this forest, but what it had done and revealed could not be so easily hidden.

Ko-chan flew back and rested himself on Kokoa's shaking frame. The rain continued to fall undisturbed. Kokoa was thankful at least for the rain, at least maybe they hid her sobs. She buried her face into her hands trying to contain the flood seeping from her eyes, she screamed at herself to stop crying but her tears were as constant as the rain.

The sky was grey with heavy clouds. The grey seemed to expand forever, touching the horizon and beyond. The world was grey, so many millions of shades of grey. There was no black or white, just lighter greys and darker ones. How dark was her grey? Kokoa wondered. She might call it true love but the world would call it a perversion and beat it out of her. Love was supposed to be the most powerful force in the universe, but its power was dismal compared to the prejudices and restrictions of society.

"Get up."

Wordlessly Kokoa obeyed. She pushed herself off of the muddy ground, still crying and shaking. She attempted to wipe at the tears on her face but succeeded only in dirtying her face with mud. She didn't look up at Kuroi, afraid of what she might see in her eyes.

"I guess I know why you get on my nerves so much." Kuroi's voice was low and tainted in bitterness.

"You're as pathetic as I am."

...

A time before our own

This is a story from a time before our own in a place yet untouched by man. Where four creatures considered young by the span of the universe lived out their daily lives in work and play.

The morning when the world was still, peaceful and slowly waking up was her favourite time of day. It was routine of her to get out of bed before anyone had woken up, before even the sun had risen. Dew filled grass, fresh morning air and the sunrise. These three things were her simplest joy.

It hadn't taken long for her to climb to her usual spot, a small cave dented in the mountainside. She had walked this path every morning for as long as she could remember, the lack of light was no hindrance to her. The cave was high up, overlooking the forest. Just before the horizon she could spot the lake, rippling in the subtle light of early morning.

Having finally reached her destination she sat down on the moss covered stone, closing her eyes and listening to the noises of world. Feeling the warmth of light tickling her nose she opened her eyes. Inner peace, that's what she felt every morning as she watched the birth of a new day and the battle of the sun to reclaim its rightful throne in the sky.

Today was going to be a good day, she decided. A shimmer of red caught her eye as she noticed Aki moving up the mountain to meet her. Deciding she had seen enough she began to descend down to meet the cheery redhead.

"Yo! Good morning sleepyhead."She met Aki halfway down the mountain and offered her a morning smile."

"G'mornin." Aki replied rubbing her eyes sleepily. Her hair was frazzled and stuck up in random places all over her scalp, she was not a morning person.

"You're not usually up this early, did I wake you?"

"No," She brought her hand up to cover her mouth as she yawned, slapping her hand to her cheeks she blinked multiple times trying to shoo away her sleepiness. "Though I wish you had, I wanted to see where you go in the mornings."

"It's nowhere special, just a little place I watch the sunrise at."

"You should take me with next time, I want to watch with you." Aki said pouting her lips. Her dishevelled appearance had a charm of its own, adding to her stray fox imitation.

"Maybe next time, say is Kora up yet?"

"When I got up she still looked fast asleep, why?"

"Just feel like it's time to wake my sister up."

...

Easy prey made for easy play. She thought as she crept closer and closer to her unsuspecting target. Sleeping so soundly, snoring so softly. She almost felt bad, almost.

"Wakey wakey!" Rapidly she grabbed hold of the covers and yanked at them, exposing the sleeping form beneath to the cool morning air. Not wasting any time she sprang at Kora, sliding her knees over each side of her waist. "Korrrra." She purred.

"Kuroi you've got to stop waking me up like this, it's bothersome." Unperturbed by the sudden attack Kora yawned sleepily. A sudden smirk appeared on her face and in a flash her fingers were at Kuroi's side, digging into her skin and tickling the unsuspecting early riser. "Or are you trying to get on my bad side!"

"Ah no no! Please not that!" Kuroi protested weakly as soon her body was racketed with fits of laughter. She squirmed and tried to break free but her attempts were all worthless. ""C-come on, yo-uu're going t-to kill me Nee-chan!" She continued to protest in between fits of laughter.

"This is your fault for waking up your sister before she's done sleeping. You need punishment." Kora explained in a playful tone, not halting once in her assault.

"N-no more!" Suddenly Kuroi had disappeared from underneath Kora, in her place was a fuzzy black cat. "Ahh look what you did."

"Couldn't you control yourself Kuroi?" Kora scooped up the feline Kuroi and rubbed the back of her ears, Kuroi elicited a deep satisfied purr as her fingers passed over the secret spot only she knew.

"You two are causing a ruckus as usual I see," Mari commented with a smile, stepping through the doorway. Mari brought with her a sheepish looking Aki and the homely smell of unsullied food. "Breakfast is ready if you'd like to start eating."

Still drawing out heavy purrs from Kuroi Kora replied for the both of them. "We're starving." Giving Kuroi one final scratch she brought herself up from the bed carrying Kuroi in one arm and making her way towards the food. They were eating outside today and embracing the glorious silence of nature.

Devouring the food with gusto everyone quickly ate all the food before them. There was ample amount of food but some had more appetite than others and what was once large quickly became nonexistent. "Where are the rest of the carrots?" Kora inquired while scanning her eyes over the table in search of the orange vegetable.

"I think I just ate the last one," Mumbled Mari cheeks aflame in guilt. "S-sorry I didn't know you wanted any."

"You don't have to apologize." Kora quickly butt in, "First come first served." She said with a laugh, Mari still appeared to feel guilty but there wasn't much else anyone could do. "I'll just go pick some carrots quick."

"You can have my carrot," Kuroi quickly offered extending her hand. "I've eaten enough." Eyes lighting up with delight Kora quickly snatched up the offered morsel. "You're cravings sure change quickly though, last week you were fancying celery." She said with a small laugh.

"You sure are fickle," Commented Aki while reaching over for another slice of toast, "I've always loved and always will love strawberries."

"Yeah, anyway you should tell me what you'll be craving next so I can remember to keep some for you." Kuroi remarked while stretching her arms back and leaning on Kora.

"I think Aki's onto something, strawberries are really tasty." Swallowing the last bits of carrot Kora quickly took a sip of freshly pressed orange juice, grimacing at the sourness. Before she could take another sip there was a glass of milk before her.

"Would you prefer this?" Kuroi asked shaking the glass back and forth sloshing the white liquid around. Reluctantly Kora accepted offering a small thank you in gratitude.

Mari shook her head, "You don't have to drink sour things if you don't like them you know?"

"I dunno, I think it's kind of cute when she forces herself to drink sour stuff. Trying to act all tough when she's just a big softy." Kuroi teased Kora, a wicked smile plastered on her face as she poked the slowly reddening Tiger morph. Said persons striped feline ears twitched in annoyance.

"Enough chit-chat." Kora declared slamming her glass on the table for effect. Kuroi rolled her eyes, Kora was about to enter what she liked to call 'Commando Mode'. "Aki, Kuroi it's your turn on the roster to patrol the forest. Mari you and I have an arrangement with the Cyclops, he's been quite disruptive lately so we need to find out what's bothering him. Prepare a basket for him, we'll need him to be calm if we want to get any negotiating done." Mari gave an affirmative nod, "And Aki," Kora eyes veered quickly towards Mari before shooting back towards the fox. "when you're done patrolling the forest if you could start the renovations we talked about."

"Sure thing."

"Renovations?" Kuroi quirked her eyes in curiosity angling herself she stared at her sister questioningly.

"I'll tell you later." She said, ruffling the panthers purple tresses. "Now go!"

"Going." Kuroi said leaning in and depositing a swift chaste kiss on Kora's lips.

"See you in a bit."

...

The beautiful morning she had witnessed had extended its reach over to the afternoon. The day had been unhurried, the sun rose its way lazily at an untroubled layman's pace. Not rushed by duty or need but merely progressing to satisfy itself.

Finally the sun had reached the end of its strenuous ascent, peaking in the middle of the sky, reducing shadows to naught. Kuroi was thankful for the dense canopy of the forest, providing ample shade and protection from the sun. She was excited, the morning had been untroubled and the fast tempo she had set was still being followed now. Already they had cleared about eighty percent of the forest in the half the usual time, if they kept it up they would finish far earlier than expected. Then she could be a dutiful younger sister and help her older sibling.

"Aren't you getting tired Kuroi?" Aki panted with exertion, her tongue lay lopping out of her canine mouth in perspiration. "L-let's take a break already. Please. This is t-too much."

"Ah come on, we're almost done Aki! Where's all that puppy energy gone to?" Kuroi mused not letting her pace drop for even the slightest instant. She ran and weaved her way through the forest, following the route that had been ingrained into her memory.

"It's gone and now I need to sleep, just like a puppy." Aki remarked trying her hardest to keep up with the seemingly fatigueless Kuroi. "Please can we just take a small break? F-five minutes is all I'm asking for."

Kuroi clucked her tongue in annoyance. "If it'll stop your whining," She whispered underneath her breath. "Fine but in five minutes we're out of here."Aki sighed visibly in relief, they stopped where they were and the fox-morph flopped onto the ground unceremoniously, her form changing and tail wagging in relief. She stretched herself out, hands brushing the ivory tips of her hair and fiddling with the intersecting bangs by her forehead. "Aki, clothes."

Aki didn't have the shame to even blush, all she did was chuckle like a naughty child. "Oops, I forgot." Kuroi rolled her eyes and turned away from the naked girl, waiting for the Aki to clothe herself, she followed the fox's lead and transformed as well. Turning around she found Aki clothed, or somewhat so. Her attire consisted of what looked like a blanket with holes for arms and her head extending only far enough to hide her sex. Though lying on the ground as she was, with the base of her tail lifting her clothing much of her butt was left exposed.

"This is so bothersome." Kuroi said with a sigh, falling back and resting herself on the trunk of a nearby tree. Aki followed suit, she sat cross legged with her hands in resting in her lap. She tilted her, child-like eyes ablaze with curiosity.

"What is?"

Kuroi shook her head and remained silent. She tapped her finger impatiently wondering at how long they'd been sitting for. She glanced at Aki quickly to see her breathing had returned to normal. She opened her mouth to begin speaking but was cut off.

"I kind of like patrols." Aki blurted out suddenly, Kuroi raised her brow sceptically giving Aki a look that said: Really? She nodded her head, giving a shy smile in response. "It's a great opportunity to spend time with each other, alone in the forest. It's really great bonding time."

"I suppose," Kuroi said in a far off voice.

"See! Patrols are totally great!" Aki said, tail wagging to and fro as she became excited. Kuroi chuckled at her mystical enthusiasm. Aki quickly became docile at Kuroi's laughter and a light blush lit up on her cheeks. Aki began playing with her bangs, fiddling around with the snow-coloured tips of her hair. A nervous habit. "S-sorry. I just get really easily excited...with you around." Kuroi didn't respond, Aki sat in the silence for a few second before gathering up the courage to look at Kuroi. Immediately she shot her eyes back down to her feet. Kuroi was looking her way. "S-say, Kuroi. Do you think it's possible for us to―"

Suddenly Kuroi was on her feet and heading towards Aki at a speed. "It can't be,"

"Wh-what?" Aki practically shouted launching up to her feet. "Kuroi?" Then unexpectedly Kuroi walked past her, she made her way past Aki intent on something behind the fox-morph. She bent down to examine the sprouting red fruit and her face lit up in glee. "Strawberries!"

"Strawberries?" Cautiously Aki made her way over to where Kuroi was crouched down. Her hands were rapidly grabbing at something and once she was close enough she peered over Kuroi's shoulders. "Strawberries." Aki reached down and plucked a juicy looking berry and tossed it into her mouth. She bit down and soon discovered that the looks weren't just for show as an abundance of juice exploded in her mouth. "It's so delicious."

"This is incredible."

"It is!" Aki plucked up another one and bit down expectantly. She was not disappointed by the result. Her taste buds were currently experiencing bliss as the sour sweetness washed over her tongue. She then noticed Kuroi hadn't eaten a single one. She was storing them in a pile near her side. Aki began to contribute likewise. She made a pile of her own and when strawberries were almost done she merged hers with Kuroi's. Smiling Aki crossed her legs again, preparing herself for the strawberry picnic.

"Say Aki would you mind finishing the patrol without me." Kuroi didn't even wait for a response she pulled her shirt and transferred the pile of tomatoes into the makeshift bag of her stretched clothing. "Thanks." She shouted back while trotting full force ahead.

Not looking back once.

...

"Can I open my eyes yet?"

"Nope."

"Now?"

"Nu-uh."

"This is taking too long."

"We're almost there."

"Where are we going?"

"It's a secret."

"Kuroi."

"Open!" She lifted her hands from Kora's eyes. Kora blinked from the sudden light holding her hands out to block the sun, before gasping in wonderment. Kuroi understood what she must be feeling. After all this was the first time she'd ever brought anyone here, to her secret place. By bringing Kora here, she felt as if she were opening up all of her heart.

"This..." Kora could not complete her sentence. The entire world seemed to expand before her and all of it was painted in the grandest hues of dying orange. Half of the sun had vanished underneath the earth and what was left was frantically casting as much of its fading light onto the serene world as was possible.

"Pretty huh?" Kuroi broke silence that had built, she sat down holding her legs together with her arms. She patted on the ground next to her, indicating to Kora her allocated spot. Dumbly Kora sat down. Kuroi brought up the packet she had been carrying and placed it in front of Kora.

"This place is beautiful," Kora told Kuroi, turning towards her younger sister she tilted her head. "Is this where you go?" Feeling it would interrupt the building mood Kuroi only nodded. She beckoned towards the packet in front of Kora, telling her to open it. "What is it?" Curiously Kora opened it, blinking at the contents. "Strawberries?"

"I found them on patrol and remembered this morning." Kuroi said, smiling and reaching into the packet. She grabbed blindly for a strawberry and tossed one into her mouth. Intently she observed Kora, tracing the movements of her firm hands as she curled her fingers around a strawberry. She studied the fruit for a moment before opening her lips and popping the berry into her mouth. Kuroi giggled when Kora's face tightened up in distaste.

"Eugh, I forgot how sour strawberries were." Kora said while slowly reaching into the packet for another one.

"Shall we make this one a little sweeter?" Kuroi took the strawberry from Kora's fingers and placed it in-between her lips. Heart beating she entwined her fingers with Kora's. Her sister looked so beautiful in the sunset Kuroi decided. Her Amazonian skin tone absorbed the orange, feeding it with warmth and colour. Her crazy striped tiger-patterned hair seemed to glow and seemed to have been carved from stone, immaculate yet chaotic, beautiful in its chained wildness. What truly took her breath away though was her eyes, her honey gold eyes. They had been the first thing Kuroi had fallen in love with. When she stared into them she felt safe, secure, warm and complete.

Unable to contain herself, she leaned forward. Their lips pressed together, she bit down on the strawberry and used it to pry open Kora's mouth. Slipping in with the sour strawberry was her sweet tongue. Today, she had decided. Today is the day. Kuroi had promised herself that only on a day as beautiful as her sister, would she open her heart to her. This was that day, never had a day been more perfect and stunning. From beginning to end it had been flawless.

Kora had stiffened up, her fingers dug painfully into Kuroi's flesh but she was numb to it all. As if Kora's saliva was morphine it numbed all of her senses. She pressed herself harder against Kora, forcing their bodies to meld together. Her heart was racing while her mind had long since disappeared. Only instinct guided her, her tongue had quickly become another creature gently caressing the inside of Kora's mouth seeking a partner to dance with.

Opening her eyes she gazed into her sisters studying the honey gold. She saw shock, but that was expected. She poured more of her feelings into the embrace, the love, fear, lust, and hope. All of it was poured into this kiss, her eyes continued to search Kora's looking for the acceptance within.

Repulsion, dread, among other foul things was all she found.

Before she knew what was happening her head had hit the back of the wall with a loud thud. She cried out at the sudden pain and her hands went to the wound behind her head, because no hands could reach the gash that was soon to pierce her heart.

"What the hell Kuroi!" Kora exploded, no sweetness was in her voice only the sour sound of rejection. "You can't!"

"What's the problem? It's just sisterly love." Kuroi said, her hands quickly becoming moist with blood.

"No that wasn't." Kora responded in a voice dreadfully cold. It seemed the arrow would be enchanted with a spell of freezing. "That was something that should not have happened." The tip would be soaked in poison."

"So what if it wasn't!" She screamed. Tears were welling up in her eyes from the wound. Yes it was her wound bringing the tears, her wound. "There's nothing wrong with loving you!"

"Love and lust are two different feelings Kuroi!" The finest, sturdiest bow was chosen.

"It's not lust! It's love it's all love!" She shouted back in protest bringing one of her hands to clasp at her chest, it was making an extremely annoying feeling.

"We're sisters!" It had been crafted by the most skilled bowsmith.

"So what!"

"So the very thought of you having feelings like that for me...is repulsive." The arrowhead made from obsidian, sharpened to perfection.

"D-don't say that..." Her other hand came to wipe her face. She had the bitter taste of salt in her mouth for some reason.

"How could you even feel like this for me? Where did those feelings come from?" The greatest archer had been chosen, he stood feet wide, bow aimed and ready.

"How could I not!" Now both of her hands were holding her chest. Why did it feel like she was crushed? "We've been together forever! You were the person I always looked up to, you were so pretty and so nice to me. You've always been there for me, always teasing me, always laughing with me, always protecting me! We've always been together! How could you not feel like this?!"

"Because I love Mari. Not you." The shot had been so splendid, the arrow travelled at a speed no eye could follow and pierced its mark with terrifying power.

"What?"

"Mari's the one I love. We're going to be sleeping together. Aki's busy with the renovations right now. It's already decided. She's the only one for me." The final light of the sunset was shining on Kora, illuminating her. It was clear to Kuroi, through her face and eyes.

"But I love you! Y-You're the only one I can love, the only person I ever think about!" She shouted out the words desperately, hoping however futile that this was not reality.

"Kuroi stop it! This is pathetic!" Kora roared, her voice echoing off the mountain and into the twilight. "Your feelings should not exist." How could you say that? Kuroi thought, her chest too sore to speak. Why must you be the one to say that?

"Don't hate me." She managed to whisper out. The sound was like a ghost, devoid of anything. Kora made no noise, she did not respond. She walked up to Kuroi, finger filled with trepidation and hesitance she softly placed her hand across Kuroi's cheek.

If Kuroi had known that was the last time Kora would ever touch her with any affection she would have held onto it with all her might and never let go. If she had known...

Kora left. She remained on the ground, fists balled, frame shaking and eyes burning. The sun had set and she cried, without holding back she let go. Her cries echoed, they travelled they were heard. She can't remember for how long she had cried but she stopped only once she was on the brink of exhaustion, when her muscles were cold and cramped, her eyes stinging and dry. But despite it all her heart still felt the same. It still felt constricted, trapped, pierced by a thousand thorns. That night she closed her heart.

She never watched a sunrise again

A/N: The climax is still a couple of chapters away and finally the story is starting to develop, we've passed character introductions, mowed down awkward character interactions and from here on only the spiciest material will exist. From this chapter on a lot of characters are going to change slightly and your view of them will probably change too.

The Masters received quite a lot of spotlight, that of course being Kuroi's back-story and how she became who she is today. It was also so readers could have a clearer view of the relationship between them all and to not make them useless throw-away filler characters. They will have an impact on the story.

I'd also just like to assure people this is still a MoKokoa(KoMoka?MoKoa?) story and they are the main pairing. Their spotlight has been reduced in this chapter but when we do reach the climax they will be eighty percent of the material.

Lastly just a thank you to the readers, favouriters and reviewers. It's always really exciting (and nerve-wracking) to see what people have to say about my work and a big inspiration. Hope to meet again.
