F.L

Clary stood on the left of Isabelle and watched as the game began. She wasn't quite prepared when the ball came her way, a slick pass from Isabelle and she almost lost it but Clary was quick to regain control of the spinning ball and she started down the field.

Aline, Isabelle and Clary started down the field, while back passing to the midfield and fighting to keep the ball in their control. For the first game, as Clary had been informed, they always played Glass academy. For any sports team they played their rival, it was tradition.

Using a swift pass Clary passed the ball to Isabelle who scored the first goal of the match. Even though she hadn't been the one to score the goal Clary was proud of herself for assisting in the goal.

The game was hard fought and Ash academy fought their hardest to keep Glass from winning. But as they neared the end of the game they were tied 2-2, and both teams were fighting for the goal. But it was Clary who Aline passed it to when she saw the chance and Clary who took off up the field. She had gotten lucky, the defense were still trying to figure where the ball had gone, but that gave Clary enough time to run. With a simple, hard boot Clary scored. They girls continued to play their hardest for the final five minutes of the game, then Clary found herself surrounded by her teammates.

As they changed out of their uniforms the team complimented each other. Isabelle, Clary and Aline had all scored a goal but the final goal was a hot topic.

"Oh look it's our adoring fans," Isabelle said, when she saw Jace, Sebastian and Alec waiting for them in the parking lot.

"The only adored one is Clary," Aline sighed teasingly, "We're old news girls."

Kaelie rolled her eyes and was quick to prance over to Jace who was equally quick to slide past her to talk to Clary and Isabelle.

"Good goals," He said, "I wouldn't want to be in front of one of your kicks Clary, man that offside, I thought I threw hard but man." Jace draped his arm around Clary's shoulders and led her to the car, talking very brightly about how the game looked from his spot.

Jace and Sebastian sat in the front and Clary sat in the back, she called her goodbyes to her team and friends. "You really ought to let Kaelie down," Clary said as they drove.

"I tried!" Jace heaved a sigh, "She won't take the hint. I figured breaking up with her would be enough!"

"When did you date her?"

"Grade 10, and I've dated like six girls since then!" Jace rolled his eyes. He looked irritated, "I'm not leading her on or giving her false hope. She knows I don't want anything to do with her. She just won't leave me the fuck alone." Jace ran a hand through his hair and looked back at Clary.

"You'll just have to be more careful when you date a girl," Sebastian said.

"If a relationship doesn't work out I shouldn't have to deal with it two years later. We had a shit time together, we're too different to work out."

They pulled into the driveway and Jace shrugged, "It's whatever though." Jace turned and went into his house.

"I think he lets girls get to him more than he lets on," Sebastian offered casually as they walked in "I mean he isn't without fault. Jace is a bit of a slut."

Clary didn't think much of it as she went upstairs, she sent her father a text to let him know she'd won her game. Clary unpacked her things and took a shower. She was just about to get dressed when she heard her phone ringing. Not used to getting calls she picked it up quickly.

"Hello?"

"Hey! Clary! Guess what?" Isabelle Lightwood demanded.

"You've turned into a frog and you need me to find the prince?" Clary asked.

"What?" The two were silent for a moment, "Either way. I've got concert tickets for this weekend and you're coming. The band I sent you a link to the other day. The Shadow Hunters."

"Really?"

"Yes, really. I got you a ticket, Alec and I are picking them up right now!" Isabelle had Alec call his hello to Clary.

"Who's going? When is it?" Clary pulled some clothes out of her closet and started to awkwardly get dressed while on the phone.

"It's an outdoor concert on the fair grounds and Me, Jace, Sebastian, you, Alec and Aline are going."

"How much do I owe you for my ticket?" Clary asked, she started from her room, now that she somehow managed to get dressed.

"Nothing, Seb got yours."

Clary paused by Sebastian's door and looked in with narrowed eyes, he was lying on his bed and looked confused when he saw Clary's expression. "Alright Iz, I'll see you tomorrow then!"

"Bye Clary!" Isabelle said, she could hear Isabelle call the same. She hung up and put the phone into the pocket of her sweater.

"You got me a concert ticket?" Clary asked her brother.

Sebastian shrugged, "I can neither confirm nor deny this rumor."

"You didn't have to do that."

"I know," Sebastian jumped up, "I did it because I wanted to, and tickets weren't expensive so it's not a big deal."

"Fine," Clary started down to the kitchen only to find Valentine getting home.

"Good job on your game!" Valentine called happily, "Sebastian said you got the winning goal!"

Clary nodded, "Isabelle and Aline got the other two."

"Great job," Valentine smiled at his children, "I got a cooked chicken so we wouldn't have to cook it, just something to go with the chicken."

"Go shower dad," Sebastian insisted, "I'll make something to go with the chicken."

"And by you, you mean me," Clary teased as she looked in the cupboards. The two decided to make hot sandwiches with peas and wax beans.

After dinner Clary decided to relax and spend the evening drawing.

Isabelle sat low in her chair with her legs stretched out in front of her. She was starting to wonder wither or not Simon Lewis had stood her up on their plans to study when he hurried into his field of view looing harassed and a bit damp.

"You know if you wanted to go for a swim first we could have met up later," Isabelle mumbled while Simon threw himself into the chair.

"It's hailing outside!" Simon huffed, "I thought oh it looks nice enough I'll walk here not bus but nooo! It started to rain, that's okay I can handle rain, then it started to hail!"

Isabelle looked out the large window in the library and nodded, the clinking of ice off the window confirmed his story. It was steadily nearing October and the cold months.

"Well you're forgiven then," Isabelle smiled, "I got you coffee."

The messy haired boy paused for a moment to look at the cup with his name written on the side in a swirling handwriting. He couldn't seem to comprehend the hot drink that sat on the table.

"Why?"

"Because you're helping me study? I thought it would be polite? I'm a huge pain in the ass so I figured you'd want to be heavily caffeinated?" Isabelle offered.

"You are not a pain in the ass," Simon took a sip of the coffee. "That is fantastic. I want twelve."

"I don't recommend that many."

"So where are all of your friends on a Friday night?" Simon asked conversationally as they drank their coffee.

"Alec is with Chairman, Church and Magnus. Sebastian and Jonathan are doing whatever they do when their together. Aline is with Maia, Bat and Jordan Kyle and some of their friends and Clary and Jace went to see some movie. I didn't feel like doing any of that honestly."

"Are Jace and Clary on a date?"

"I don't think so," Isabelle shrugged, "I don't really know though. They spend a lot of time together. But she isn't Jace's type, I think they'd be perfect together but I just don't know."

"She isn't Kaelie," Simon mumbled.

"That's a good thing," Isabelle rolled her eyes, "Kaelie has gotten pretty desperate lately, she just can't grasp that she won't get with a guy like Jace, or Sebastian or Alec."

"I thought you were her friend?"

"Oh I am, but it gets old," Isabelle shrugged and threw her hair over her shoulder. "We should get to work, I'm sure you have plans at some point tonight."

"Just a gig at 9, but he if you aren't doing anything you can come," Simon blurted that out before he could stop himself, "I mean I know you wouldn't want to come see my shitty band play. Sorry."

"I'd love to," Isabelle smiled, "What's the name of your band?"

"Well currently it's Electric eel catchers but I'm sure we'll change it forty more times before next week."

Isabelle and Simon worked on their Calculus assignment for a little bit before they decided to get food. Isabelle talked Simon into sushi and they walked to a place just up the street from the library.

"How do you walk in shoes like that?" Simon asked eyeing the heeled boots Isabelle had on.

"I never found it that hard honestly," Isabelle shrugged, "I used to play around in my mother's when I was a child so I guess I just got used to them. How do you get used to glasses?"

"I've had them since I was a little kid," Simon laughed, "I used to lose them a lot when I was young but now that I've gotten used to them I don't even notice them unless they aren't on my face."

While they ate they talked about their siblings and Isabelle found that she actually rather likes Simon Lewis. "I hope you don't hold a grudge against me for being a major bitch," Isabelle said with an abashed look on her face. "I was not raised like that."

"Popularity gets to people," Simon paused, "So I hear. I mean when the groupies are flocking around me after my shows I feel like Stephen Tyler."

"Groupies?"

Simon pursed his lips and didn't say anything. "That's what I thought, groupies." Isabelle scoffed. "If you want a drive to your gig we can stop by my house so I can change."

"Well I don't want to put you out," Simon said quickly.

"Nah, I've got nothing better to do."

They walked back towards the library, the hail had turned into rain so they walked quickly. Isabelle got in her car and Simon admired it while they drove. "Nice car," He said.

"Thank you. Alec and I share it, although it is technically my mother's and we worked out the car pool so my mother has the car on days that she has to drive to work. I drive a bit more than Alec does though."

"I do not have a car," Simon shrugged, "I don't mind walking though. Although winter gets a bit rough. But Jordan drove me a lot last winter so it wasn't so bad."

"Jordan Kyle? I didn't know you two were friends?"

"Oh yeah, I've been friends with Maia since Junior High and when they started dating I became friends with him too. Even after they broke up I stayed friends with him."

"I don't know him that well outside of parties," Isabelle admitted.

"That's why they broke up. Jordan parties a little bit too hard, he's just you know, potential that he is blowing away."

"Isn't Maia dating Bat?"

"Nah, they'll get together before the year is up again. They dated back in jr. High and broke up but I think they're coming around."

Isabelle and Simon pulled into the driveway of the Lightwood house. "Well come on," Isabelle said when Simon looked like he was going to stay seated.

Simon followed Isabelle Lightwood into her house something he never thought he'd be doing. Truthfully he had always seen Isabelle as one of those cold unattainable girls that no guy could get to. He'd always seen her as the type to get whatever she wanted and what she wanted would never be a guy like Simon. But he followed her into one of the largest homes he'd ever been in.

"You can come upstairs," Isabelle called over her shoulder as she walked up, "My parents aren't home and don't care regardless." Simon found himself sitting on the edge of Isabelle Lightwoods bed as she talked to him from her closet about the most mundane things.

Isabelle drove him to his house and then to the small, dark, venue where his band was playing. Isabelle sat near the front and Simon was pretty glad that she seemed to be enjoying their music.

"Resistance is futile" Jace told Clary who had been bickering with Isabelle who wanted to dress Clary.

The short red head finally gave in and allowed Isabelle to lead her upstairs. "Why do you have Jace's jacket" Isabelle asked when she saw the football jacket thrown over her day bed.

"Jace lent it to me the night of the party last week and never took it back, I keep forgetting about it honestly."

Isabelle raised a careful eyebrow but said nothing as she went into Clary's closet. She decided on a black skirt and a maroon long sleeved top. Clary decided not to argue it. Clary even allowed Isabelle to do her makeup. The red haired girl was just putting earrings in when Jace walked into her room.

"You two ready?" he asked, "We should go."

Isabelle quickly pranced from the room. "You should take your jacket, I keep forgetting about it," Clary said.

Jace retrieved his jacket and stood behind Clary who was twisting her hair up and easily he took the clip from her hair, "It looks better down."

"Thanks." Clary said a bit awkwardly, the two of them stood still for a moment too long, a heavy tension between them before hurrying from the room. Clary sat in the back seat between Isabelle and Jace. Alec drove his mother's car.

"Aline is going to meet us there, if you guys want you can stay over. Mum, Dad and Max went away for the weekend."

"Where'd they go?" Sebastian asked, "The cottage?"

"Yep, they're closing it up," Alec said. "So we don't have to crash at other places."

"Are you parent's protective?" Clary asked.

Isabelle nodded, Clary looked over at her face she looked annoyed. Isabelle had a very simple beauty to her, she could have easily been a Hollywood starlet from the thirties. Clary would have liked to see her dressed up in clothes from those times.

"Our father is anyway, our mother doesn't mind what we do as long as we're careful."

Clary thought back to living with her mother, she had been a work so often that her mother often didn't notice when she was out. It had bothered Clary a lot because it felt like sometimes her mother didn't care very much about her, she knew it wasn't true and that her mother loved her. But from what Clary hard heard from her friends mothers were supposed to be over protective. From what she knew of Valentine he wasn't too protective but he would periodically text her throughout the day or after school to make sure she made it and he always asked Sebastian and her how their days were.

"My parents are and aren't at the same time," Jace said, "They don't really have problems with me doing anything like going to a party or having girls over, but they're really super serious about my grades."

"We know," Sebastian cast a glance back at his friend.

Alec turned the radio up so the song playing could be heard. Clary found herself singing along with her friends. She felt happiness as they met Aline who was with Maia, Bat and Jordan. They went in and were met with a wall of people. Isabelle started her way through the people, parting them surprisingly easily, she seemed to melt into the crowd. Aline took hold of Clary's hand and brought her through the crowd. Isabelle found them a spot near the front of the crowd, it was tightly packed but when the lights on the stage started to signal that something was about to happen Clary's excitement overrode any discomfort.

The opening band wasn't bad, a group none of them had heard of but they played well enough that they weren't hoping for the end of their set. But they were glad when the band they paid for came on stage. The crowd seemed to be one entity when the first song started, an upbeat dancy song. Moving along with the beat Clary lost who was around her, she noticed that Jordan wasn't with their group any more but didn't think much of it.

Due to the bodies pressed against each other Clary began to sweat but she didn't mind, the crowd was electric and the energy was astounding. Clary felt someone pressed up against her but a quick glance revealed it to be Isabelle, her new tall friend looked lost in the music.

The band played three encores before they announced they were done for the night. Clary allowed Isabelle to lead her through the crowd to try to get back to their car but Clary felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to see a large man trying to pull her back. "Why don't you come party with me?" He asked in a gruff voice.

"No." Clary tried to yank her shoulder from out of his grip but he was too strong and she lost hold of Isabelle. "Leave me alone."

The man tried to persist and drag Clary the opposite way but she heard a familiar voice, "She said no," Jace growled, "Leave her alone." Sebastian and Jace appeared at her sides and before she could do anything Sebastian brought his arm back and punched the man who had been trying to lead her off in the face. Before the man or Clary could react Sebastian was leading her though the crowd again. She looked over her shoulder to see Jace punch him again when he looked like he was about to start after them.

"Thank you," Clary whispered. Her brother had a protective arm wrapped around her, Jace stood on her other side with an expression that dared anyone to try anything.

No one said anything and they drove back to the Lightwood house. "You want to borrow something to wear?" Isabelle asked, "Also I don't want to get anyone excited but I think Aline said something about rum."

"You drink too much for someone who gets so hungover," Jace mumbled as he let himself into the kitchen.

"You say that like you don't like drinking games!"

"Oh I love drinking games," Jace called.

The two girls went upstairs and Isabelle started rifling through her dresser while Clary threw herself down on Isabelle's bed. Isabelle gave Clary a pair of shorts and a tank top. Clary was glad to be out of her skirt and into comfortable shorts. She was comfortable on Isabelle's bed, she liked the pictures Isabelle had all over her walls. Ones of Isabelle and her brothers. Ones of Isabelle with Jace and Sebastian, ones of Isabelle with Aline. She looked like she had a good childhood growing up. She looked like she had fun in her teenage years and that made Clary smile.

"Admiring what the boys call my stalker wall?"

"Yeah, I love them."

"My favorite is this one," Isabelle gestured to a picture of her and Aline, they had cupcake all over their faces and they looked to be about 7. They looked so happy and carefree. Aline and Kaelie let themselves into Isabelle's room. "Didn't realize we were having a party at the Lightwood house," Isabelle shot a glance back at Clary.

"We won't be staying too late, Kaelie's mom is picking us up at 1," Aline said as she went into Isabelle's closet, she changed into yoga pants and threw her hair up. Aline, Kaelie and Isabelle were all taller than Clary but that wasn't very hard. Clary thought Isabelle was the prettiest of the three, but the other two were also intimidatingly pretty.

Clary had always wished to be the type of pretty that Isabelle was, tall, slim, could pass for a model. They headed downstairs where Jace, Sebastian and Alec at in the basement. Sebastian was just pouring shots when the girls got in the room.

"Shots aren't really my thing usually," Clary mumbled after a while.

"Really because since you've been here you've done them twice," Sebastian teased.

Isabelle was quick to have an answer, "That's just because we drink a lot, especially for varsity athletes."

Jace waved off her comment, "Nothing helps relieve stress like underage drinking. It's only on weekends for most of us, and whatever teenagers say they don't drink are lying."

"It was one time Jace," Kaelie rolled her eyes she was sitting beside Jace and slowly inching closer to Jace as if she was subtle. To counteract this Jace was moving closer to Sebastian and Isabelle who sat on his left. Then suddenly without warning Jace pounced at Sebastian and tackled him to the floor. This gave Jace an excuse to sit on the floor near Isabelle and Clary as opposed to by Aline.

Once Aline and Kaelie left Jace sat back on the couch and sprawled out, "We can't play any fun drinking games because this friends group is 95% related," Jace said. "We just have to drink."

"Like you complain," Alec mumbled, "It's not our fault you don't have a sister who is somehow in our friend group and grade and always around."

Isabelle cut her dark eyes, "Well if this is so bad Clary and I can go," Isabelle took Clary by the hand and started to lead her up the stairs Clary stumbled a little.

"No no no, none of that," Sebastian said, "If we let you two go up unaided you'd probably fall down the stairs."

Isabelle rolled her eyes back sat back down. They decided to watch a movie it was funny but Clary couldn't remember the title, after the movie Isabelle and Clary went upstairs while Sebastian, Alec and Jace stayed downstairs in the basement, where Isabelle said they usually slept.

"Is there something going on between you and Jace?" Isabelle asked, Clary could tell she was starting to sober up a bit.

Isabelle's room smelled like fresh peaches a sent which came from candle that sat on the dresser, the pretty girl had lots of makeup and hair products on her vanity, for the most part her room was neat and tidy except for the few clothes that were strewn across her floor.

The red head sat on her friend's bed and shrugged, "I don't really think so. He's just nice to me, I really don't think I'm his type. I don't want to step on an toes, I mean.."

"Oh god no! Jace is like a brother to me. You aren't his type but he likes you," Isabelle stated, "I don't see why you couldn't be his type. You're pretty, delicate, and you're unique." Isabelle brushed out her hair in front of the mirror, eyeing Clary in her reflection.

"I wish I looked more like you. I always feel so childlike."

"I wish I could be your size," Isabelle turned to look at Clary, "I hate being so fucking tall sometimes. I'm taller than most guys."

"Not Simon Lewis." Much to Clary's amusement Isabelle flushed a little.

"He's interesting. Let me braid your hair." Isabelle sat behind Clary and French braided her long red hair, "I was with him last night, he's nice Clary."

"He seems nice."

"You don't like him to you?" There was hint of a pout in her slightly-higher-than-normal voice.

"As a friend."

"Good."

Talk continued for a short while before they decided to go to bed, Clary made sure that Isabelle drank a full glass of water before bed. After a few moments of being in the dark Clary realized she had to go to the bathroom so she asked Isabelle where it was, but Isabelle was groggy and mumbled by the stairs.

Clary was quiet as she walked down the hall of the Lightwood house, in her semi-intoxicated state every noise she made seemed very loud. She did find the bathroom but when she was leaving she walked right into Jace who was very shirtless.

"Is everything alright?" He asked her.

"Oh yeah, everything's good."

"Do you know where Isabelle's room is?" Clary gestured vaguely down the hall. "I'll show you the door so you don't go in the wrong room."

She couldn't help but eye him as they walked down the hall, it was dark but she could see the outline of him. He must've been in bed as well because he just wore boxers but Clary didn't think about that, her thoughts were on the hand that was gently on her back when they reached Isabelle's door, it was the last in the hall and Clary had thought it was on the right but it was on the left side. There were six doors, three on either side, so it was easy to get confused.

"Goodnight Clary," Jace said.

"Night Jace." She let herself into Isabelle's room and settled herself into the bed. Sleep came fast.

"Maia?" Simon asked groggily, he didn't have his glasses on so he wasn't sure who had called him but the vague strangled sounds were reminiscent of Maia so he sat upright.

"Simon, it's Jordan," She sobbed.

"What? What did he do?"

"He was in an accident," Maia choked out, "Simon he's dead."

Simon looked at the clock on his bedside table, it read 8am. "When? What happened?"

"We went to the concert last night, I left with Bat so Jordan went alone, he was angry with us. I just got the call from Bat, Jordan was hit by a guy who fell asleep at the wheel."

Simon let that wash over him, Jordan Kyle was dead. His friend, the guy who would have done anything for someone he loved. The boy who drove out of his way to pick up Simon ever morning he could in the winter so Simon wouldn't get sick. He couldn't believe it, Jordan was a good driver, he didn't do much that was reckless, he was trying to change himself.

"Are you okay Maia? You can't blame yourself it wasn't your fault he was driving." Simon knew suddenly that Maia would blame herself. Even though she and Jordan Kyle never worked out she always felt it was her job to deal with everything.

"I'm okay," Maia said after a moment, "His mom called Bat, I just can't believe he's gone."

"If you need anything, anytime, Maia you can come over or I can come to you."

"Thanks Si," Maia sighed, "I've got to go for now but I'll text you later."

"Take care Maia."

Simon left the funeral home feeling odd, he felt as if he was living someone else's life as he walked down the sidewalk, he wished there would be some rhyme or reason for this. He wished he could know why Jordan had to die, as he walked Simon played with the pendant Jordan's mother had given him. Jordan had gotten it while he was in Washington.

Fittingly enough it was raining, he just wanted the week to be over, the month, the year. He was tired and wanted nothing more than to disappear into the woods. A car pulled along beside him, his first thought was axe murderer but then her saw a pretty girl with her long hair piled up on top of her head. Isabelle Lightwood looked out at him, and without really thinking about it he got in the car. Isabelle drove without saying anything to Simon, she let him sit in her car, dripping wet and scowling.

He didn't say a word until she pulled out in front of his house, "You didn't have to pick me up," He said.

"Yes I did," Isabelle gave Simon a small smile, "If you need anything you can text me you know. Or if you just need to talk."

"Thanks Isabelle," Simon said with more emotion than he'd managed to produce for the minute he found out, "I appreaciate a lot."

"Go get dry Simon, I'll see you in class," She paused, "He was a good guy."

"Sometimes."

"Sometimes," Isabelle admitted.

Simon thanked her again before he went into his house, October was coming in with a damp air and he shivered. He felt like he was getting a cold. But as he walked to his room he thought about Football, he didn't know who would replace Jordan but he hoped they would win. Simon wanted them to win for Jordan, who wanted to bring a chapmionship back to Ash a lot, his thoughts wandered to Homecoming, he thought briefly about asking Isabelle Lightwood, dream girl, and he knew Jordan would have encouraged this but he pushed that from his head. He didn't want to think about Jordan, or School or even his new friend Isabelle, he curled up on his bed and watched Netflix. Letting everything fade into the back.
