Chapter 6: Working it Out

The Social Club was already bursting with people when they arrived. The line up was to the hundreds with people lined up down the block. When they approached the door, the bouncer took one look at Andy and smiled as his eyes raked over her body. He was about to say something when she flashed the business card and suddenly the door was opening for them, much to the protests of the people in line. When they were in the push their way to the dance floor all the while searching for Gerry or Jimmy, both of which were suppose to be here tonight. They danced together, keeping sharp of their surroundings. Finally after forty-five minutes they saw them emerge from the back room, shaking hands with a man they didn't recognize; red-hair, tall and lanky. Gerry was hark haired with a hint of European while Jimmy was blonde. The redhead left and Sam quickly pulled out his phone to send a text to Best and the crew who were sitting in a van across the street waiting for Sam's signal to come in.

They continued to grind against each other keeping an eye on the two as they moved to the bar and sat down watching the dancers. Andy felt Gerry's eyes on her as she danced and she stepped up her moves, pressing her back into Sam and dropped to the floor only to have his hands grip her tighter as she shimmied her way back up. They danced some more before they Andy whispered she was getting a drink and with a knowing wink her turned away and strode to where the two men where sitting. Sam watched as swayed her hips seductively and every male within range focused on her, including Gerry and Jimmy. She leaned over the bar and lifted her finger for a drink. The bartender came over, grinning at her.

"Hey there beautiful. What can I get you?" Andy showed her five-star smile.

"Well, I'd like an apple martini and directions where to find this." She subtly put the business card on the counter for him to read. When he looked up he was all business. He was about to talk when Jimmy beside her leaned over to the bar silencing him.

"It's alright Brad we've got this." Then he turned to Andy holding out a hand. "I'm Jimmy and this is Gerry. We're who you're looking for." Andy took his hand and shook it politely. "How about we take this somewhere more private?" She gave a smile.

"Good, I'll just tell my boyfriend. He wants some too." Gerry shook his head.

"We'd prefer to deal with you alone. You can get enough for both of you." Andy panicked for didn't let it show. She didn't want to spook them.

"Alright, sure." They led the way and Andy looked at Sam, tucking her hair behind her ear, letting him know to go with it. He nodded but she could tell from the look on his face he didn't like it at all. They lead her through a hallway until they reach the basemen door with another bouncer in front. He moved aside as they approached and Jimmy led the way in. The room was large but stacked to the ceiling with boxes. One box was cracked open and Andy could see dark bottles of red wine in them. Jimmy sat on a box while Gerry stood not too far away from her.

"So babe. What is it you were looking for?" Jimmy drawled. Andy popped her hip and rested her hand on it, trying to look as natural as possible.

"Well, E and coke. Enough to last a few weeks." Gerry raised his dark eyebrows.

"That's a lot of pop. I'm not sure if you can afford that." Andy reached into her small bag and pulled out two bricks of ten grand and held them up.

"Is that enough to cover it?" The two men exchanged surprised looks.

"I believe this lady gets her candy. Jimmy?" The blonde went over to the wooden crates of wine and pulled out a couple wine bottles, one with a different label. He opened the screw tops on each and walked over to Andy giving her a peek into the necks. In one she saw little white pills and in the each was pure white cocaine. She gave a knowing smile.

"Clever." She mused and handed the cash over to Jimmy. He took it and placed it in his jacket. He started to pull bottles and place them on the crates. She walked over to grab them when a hand wrapped around her arm keeping her back.

"Now hold up there for a second." Gerry looked at her surprised face and grinned. "We require a little… down payment from such a lovely woman as yourself." Andy frowned and shook her head.

"I don't do that." Jimmy leaned against the crate watching their interaction. Gerry pulled her close enough that she could smell his aftershave.

"You mean to tell me you don't do favours to get that kind of cash? I find that hard to believe." Andy tried to yank her arm away but his grip tightened.

"Ow! No! I don't alright? I have a boyfriend, now let me go!" She demanded looking him straight in the eye. The two of them laughed.

"Really? Then what kind of job gets you that much money?"

"I'm a dancer at Monty's." The two men exchanged looks, talking with his eyes.

"Well then you're used to small favours for a little reward."

"I said NO." Andy's voice was firm and she could see Gerry getting pissed off. Before he could say anything Jimmy spoke up.

"See I find that hard to believe. Because a "dancer" who needs her hit will do just about anything to get it. Which makes me believe that you're neither." He paused. "So that makes you a cop." Andy froze for a second, trying not to let her panic show. She needs Sam to show up now.

"Don't be ridiculous." Andy yanked her arm free and rubbed the now bruised area.

"Then you have no problem giving us some special treatment." Andy rolled her eyes.

"You know what, I think I'm done here. I don't want your stuff so badly that I'm going to be treated this way. Now give me my money back and I'm out of here." She stepped forward to take the money back and she heard a click of a hammer being pulled back behind her.

"Not so fast. You know we're not stupid you know. We know that the police have been trying to track us down for months now. Trying every angle to get us. Do you really think we didn't take extra precautions with our dealings?" Turned around and faced the gun, trying hard to think her way out of this one.

"Look I don't know what you're playing at, but I'm not a cop. I don't have any weapons on me. No wires. Nothing. Now can you just put down the gun already? I don't like having to stare at that thing." Gerry hesitated and Andy knew that he was thinking about it. Then there was a cry and a bang as someone hit the door. Both men whipped around to stare at it startled, Gerry pointed his gun in its direction. Andy took advantage and tried to kick the gun from his hand only to have hands wrapped around from behind her holding her back. The door flew open and Sam was standing there with his gun drawn pointing it at Gerry.

"Toronto PD put your gun down now." Gerry didn't lower his weapon. Sam scanned the room and saw Jimmy with his arms around her body. Keeping her from moving. "I said put down your weapon." His voice was commanding and firm. Andy cried out in surprise when she felt something cool against her throat.

"Put down your weapon or your pretty partner here will get it." Jimmy called out to him. Sam's eyes widen as he took in the sharp blade pointing pressed against her neck. "Do it now!" Sam raised her hands and slowly put the gun to the floor. "Much better. Now kick it over to him." Andy braced herself and as Sam kicked it with his foot towards Gerry she thrust her elbow into the blonde behind him and smashed his foot with her heel. He yelped and Sam launched himself at Gerry, knocking the gun from his hand. A struggle followed between both parties.

Andy and Jimmy were throwing punches and kicks at each other, while she tried her hardest to avoid the knife. She felt the blade cut her cheek then as she stumbled in surprise Jimmy slashed and it cut her collarbone. She heard a yelp from one of the other two followed by someone falling to the floor. Jimmy looked up and immediately Andy knew that Gerry had been the one to fall. He swore under his breath and in one quick movement he threw the knife across the room. Andy took advantage and smashed his nose in, breaking it then, grabbing a wine bottle resting of the crate, she hit him over the head. He dropped like a rock and remained still. She was panting when she looked around to find Sam.

She gasped in horror as Sam was lying on the floor, blood pooling around him, the knife protruding from his abdomen. She rushed over and dropped to the ground, fluttering her hands over him in worry. He was still breathing and his eyes were open.

"Oh god Sam…" Sam gave a weak smile.

"I've had… worse." He breathed out and reaching up he cupped her cheek.

"You have to hold on okay? Don't leave me now. I need you." She whispered putting pressure around the knife. He winced in pain. She heard footsteps and quickly she grabbed the gun next to him and pointed it to the door. Frank, Noelle, Gail and Dov came through the door and everyone lowered their weapons.

"Ten-thirty-three, we have an officer down. I repeat; officer down! Dispatch ambulance immediately to the basement of Social night club." Gail and Dov cuffed Gerry and Jimmy; both were groggy but still alive. Noelle and Frank kneed beside Sam.

"Hey there Sammy, everything's going to be okay. Ambulance is on its way it'll be here any minute. Hold on tight for me buddy." Frank gripped his shoulder and Noelle took over putting pressure on for Andy. Sam nodded and put on a grim smile. He turned to look at Andy and his hand shot out to grab hers. Squeezing it tightly Andy put on a brave face for him. She glanced down to see the blood-spreading father. He was loosing too much blood.

"Andy…" He spoke quietly now, his voice was fading now.

"I'm here Sam." She looked over him and even though it was taking a lot of effort he was looking at her.

"You know I love you right?" She nodded; tears pricked the back of her eyes. Don't say your goodbyes, she thought. Everything will be fine. A quick look down and she saw more blood. She looked back to him, trying not to show her fear. "You know… If we… made it through this… case… I was going to ask… you to marry me…" Andy couldn't help the tears that overflowed the brims of her eyes. She didn't care that everyone in the room was staring at them. "I was just… waiting… for the… right time…" His head drooped to the side and she waited for him to keep talking. But no words came.

"Sam?" No response. Andy looked up to Noelle and she could tell that she was panicking too. Then footsteps and the paramedics came through the door. They asked everyone to step back and they took over, placing him on a stretcher and carrying him out in record time. They loaded him into the ambulance and Andy went with them, holding his hand as they hung fluids and blood. The sirens wailed at they rushed to St. Michaels and got him into the operating room. When Andy emerged into the waiting room she noticed that Traci and the others were all waiting there. Traci handed her a duffel with some clean clothes and helped her change. Then they waited until someone brought them some news.
