Chapter 5
Reesey and Tearyasllene made their way down the street of Diagon Alley to the Apothecary for the ingredients Reesey would need for her potions class. When they walked in it was like when they first walked into the Leaky Cauldron earlier that day, everyone in the shop was gawking at them as soon as the bell chimed signaling their entrance through the door. Tearyasllene grabbed Reesey just like she had in the Leaky Cauldron and asked her for her school list as they journeyed further in the shop. Reesey did as her mother asked and reached into her pocket and once again handed Tearyasllene her school list.
Accepting the list Tearyasllene took a glance at the list and nodded looked and then looked up from it "Why don't you go and retrieve your writing supplies why I go and gather your potions supplies that way we can make it out of this madhouse of a shop faster." Reesey's mom suggested to her. Looking around seeing all the people of the wizarding community that were in the Apothacary staring at her and her mom, she quickly nodded and began walking off to get some rolls of parchment before she could get to far her mom called to her "Reesey." Reesey turned back in the direction her mom was in "We'll meet up right at this spot ok," Tearyasllene told her. Reesey once again nodded and replied "Ok Mum." and turned back around walking in the direction of the parchment while her mom went in search of the potions material.
The pieces of parchment, quills, and ink were at the back of the shop. So Reesey walked as quickly and composed as possible as to not draw anymore unwanted attention to herself then she already had at the moment. Looking straight ahead trying her best not only ignore the stares for others in the shop but also the gossip that went along with it. When she finally reached where the parchment and quills were she could no longer ignore the hush voices of the people especially the couple a few feet away from her glancing every so often her way and having a conversation about her.
"I reckon she's as bad of an egg as that father of hers," she heard the witch say. The wizard she was looked in her direction once again and then turned back to his wife, "But of course," he agreed "can't you see she has mischief written all around her. Well wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't already dabbling in the Dark arts. You know Deatheaters start learning young," the man informed. The witch nodded, " I know. You know I'm shocked that Dumbledore would still even send her a letter let alone permit her to go to Hogwarts, especially with Harry Potter attending this year as well. I mean for all we know for all we know she could already have had her first kill and could be planning to finish what her father set out to do in the first place," the witch continued, "If you ask me that girl should be locked away right next to that no deatheating killer of a father of hers,"
At that last sentence Reesey looked over at the couple with tears starting to dampen her eyes. The witch who was still speaking to notice of her and gave Reesey a hard glare before turning back to the man and continued, "You mark my words she'll be in cell in Azkaban soon than you can say newt. And it'll be right next to dear ol' Daddy," she finished with another glare in Reesey's direction and chilliness in her tone. Reesey quickly grabbed what she needed and hurriedly made her back to her mother before she started crying completely keeping her head down as she did so. All her life she had heard some nasty comments and conversations about her family and herself, but she had never heard one that cruel and heartless before.
Oh she was sure that the death glares and sneers she caught people giving her and her mom in passing were accompanied with cruel thoughts and even cruel talk but she had never really caught it just bits and pieces in hushes and whispers. But never had she ever heard a full-blown conversation like that amongst people, 'Until now,' she thought as she wiped her eyes and took a deep breath to try and compose herself before she met back up with her mom. As she made her way back to the front of the shop she bumped into someone knocking them to the floor it was a boy with blue eyes and dark, "Oh I'm sorry it was my fault wasn't watching where I was going. Are you alright?" Reesey asked as the boy got up and brushed himself off. "It's ok. No harm done, I'm alright," The boy replied with a smile and a chuckle as he did so then looked at Reesey and his smile slowly faded and quickly departed.
Reesey shook her head, 'well THAT I can handle and it can't possibly get any worse than that nasty couple from before. So nothing but things could happen from now on,' she thought to herself with a smile and stopped right at the spot at the front of the shop where her and Tearyasllene agreed to meet back up. Tearyasllene showed about five minutes later with all the potion ingredients that Reesey would need for her Potions class. "Alright it's all. Are you all set to go," Tearyasllene asked her daughter. Reesey just nodded her head as she and her mom made their way to the register to once again purchase the item they had in their possession. Once they had paid they were on the move once again being almost done with only stop to go, which happen to be the one stop that Reesey was looking forward to all day, Ollivanders.
Reesey's previous excitement came back in full force knowing she would be getting her very own wand for the first time. As her and her mom made their way toward the wand shop Tearyasllene began to speak, "Listen Sweetheart, I know you're looking forward to going to Ollivanders to get your wand but we have one last stop to make before we go there is that alright with you," Tearyasllene asked. Reesey smiled and shook her head after a moment of thinking her returned the smile and held out her hand for Reesey to take. Reesey put her hand in her mom's like she had earlier that day and continued walking. 'Well I've practically all my life for my wand another stops isn't gonna kill me,' she thought as they passed the shop she would have to wait a little longer to enter.
Tearyasllene and Reesey came to a stop right outside the Magical Menagerie. Reesey had seen the shop before in passing and knew that it sold magical creatures; she had always been fascinated with all the creatures on display in the windows. "Mum, What are we doing here?" Reesey asked. "Well I thought with how patient you have been since you received your letter. And to show how proud I am of you, I thought you deserved a reward," Tearyasllene told her with a smile. Reesey turned to her mom, "You mean I get to choose an animal to keep as my pet?" She asked in a shocked voice. Her mother nodded, "Uh-huh, come on." Tearyasllene said as she started walking up to the door. Reesey ran to keep up with her mother as she entered the shop right behind her.
Reesey had always seen the shop but never had been in it, "well until now,' she thought. She was amazed everywhere she looked were creatures of all kinds. "Well don't just stand there gawking at everything go pick something out," her mom said as she nudged her on. Nervously Reesey walked an slowly then stalked and turned to back to her mom "Go on, I'll be right here when you get back," she told Reesey with a reassuring smile. Reesey returned the smile went on at a little faster than normal speed. She looked at all the different creatures in their cages and made her way to the end of the shop in no time.
As she made her way through the last isle of the shop she came to a stop in front of a cage that was occupied by a black cat with white specks on its paws. "Hello, aren't you a pretty thing," she commented as it just stared at her with deep green eyes. "I like you. Do you like me," she asked it. The cat let out a tiny meow. Reesey smiled, "Good, how would you feel about coming home with me. Would you like that," She asked it again once again the cat let out another meow. "I'm going to take that as a yes she told it as she grabbed the cage with both hands to bring it down from where it was perched on the shelf. "Don't be afraid I'm just taking you to the front of the shop where my mum is so she can buy you," She assured the now nervous cat. When Reesey reached her mom she handed her the cage excitedly "Look Mummy isn't she pretty," "She's Beautiful Reesey," Tearyasllene told her as she grabbed the cage from Reesey to pay for the cat. After the cat was paid for Reesey took hold of the cage once again. "What you going to call her," Tearyasllene questioned as they walked back out on the street. Reesey though for a minute before answering "Phoenix," Reesey responded with a smile which her mother returned. "I like it," Tearyasllene commented as they made their way back to Ollivanders.
