Chapter 5
The rain roughly hit the roof, making a 'Thunk' sound every time it hit. Ace looked out the window; his green eyes were full of worry as he looked into the now seemingly soaked city. Where are you Scarlet? He thought anxiously. It had been three days since she had led the Slades away, and ran into the forest.
Coal, her little brother was not faring well without his sister. The small tom was curled up in the corner of the room, sleeping. Since Scarlet had left, they had no guarantee that the Slades would come back to look for the two toms, so he was forced to leave his home and take Coal somewhere safe.
He let out a soft growl of irritation as a drop of water hit his head. The old, abandoned house they had taken shelter in was full of cracks and leaks, but it was better than nothing.
He heard Coal stir and turned to see the small tom shift in is sleep. Poor scrap….
Plop!
He growled, Damn rain. He looked out the Window and thought he saw a small movement by the streets. He looked closer but a voice startled him. "Ace…?" he turned around and saw Coal lifting his head sleepily.
He turned back around to the window and peered through, trying to find that movement but it was gone. Nervousness filled his mind but he shook it away and turned back to Coal. "I'm here, are you hungry?"
The smaller tom shook his head but a low grumbling sound came from his stomach. Coal gave him a sheepish smile and Ace rolled his eyes. "Right, I'm going to go hunt. You're obviously hungry."
"No! I-It's fine, you don't have to go hunt, I'll be fine without a little food." Ace shook his head, "Nah, it's no big deal. Besides, Scarlet would have my tail if she found out that I let you go hungry." Coal's eyes widened in fear and he suddenly said desperately. "Wait! Please!"
Ace stopped with one paw in the air, and looked back at him. The small tom was looking up at him with wide eyes. "It's just….the last time I was left alone…." Ace understood, the last cat to leave him alone was Scarlet, and then the Slades came.
He sighed and padded back to Coal who was shaking with fear. "It's going to be alright Coal." He murmured. "Scarlet will come back, she promised didn't she?" The small tom nodded. "And when has Scarlet ever broken a promise?"
Coal sniffed before mewing, "N-never."
"Exactly, now I'm going to be gone for a little while. I'll be back before you know it, ok?" Coal nodded and looked up at Ace, as if barely realizing how big Ace really was.
"You know, you sound just like her." Ace felt surprised at that comment but listened as he continued. "Always having hope, never letting fear take over." Coal looked down at his paws.
Ace stared at the smaller tom for a while before standing up. The rain seemed to lighten up and a small ray of sunlight seemed to light the room.

Scarlet's POV
Scarlet sat in her nest, staring at the floor. She was bored out of her mind! She flopped on her back but winced as she landed on some of her scratches. She huffed as he head fur fell in her face. She tried to blow it away but it was being stubborn.
"What are you doing?"
She gave a small gasp of surprise and rolled back over, unfortunately she landed on her broken paw and let out a growl of pain. "OW!"
She looked up to see Lionblaze, his pelt was slicked with rain. He shook his fur out, letting a few droplets of water land on her. "Hey!" she growled. He stopped, grinning at her.
"Oops, sorry!" She glared at him and managed to sit up, grunting as her injured paw throbbed. "What are you doing in here?" She growled. He shrugged and padded closer to her, before sitting down.
"I just got back from a patrol. It's nearly pouring out there." She rolled her eyes. No shit Sherlock. She lifted her other paw and swiped at her head fur, making sure to leave it how she liked. Her head fur covered one of her teal eyes, but she was used to it.
"Where's the idiot?" She asked after a while, she hadn't seen him since this morning. Lionblaze shrugged, Urgh, I hate it when he does that. "I don't know, I think he's in the nursery, tending to the queens."
She suddenly heard paw steps and looked behind Lionblaze to see Jayfeather. The silver tabby shook his fur, but it wasn't as wet as Lionblaze's had been. "It's lightening up out there," He mumbled before turning to his herbs stack.
She ignored him and turned to Lionblaze. "Hey, since the rain is stopping, I want to explore a little more. Your 'Clan' is weird but I wanna see how it works around here." Lionblaze twitched his nose in amusement, but meowed uncertainly, "I don't know, Jayfeather says you should get rest so your paw can heal."
"That's right." Jayfeather's voice interrupted them as he pushed his way passed Lionblaze. "If you want your paw to heal you have to stay as still as possible, same for the rest of your wounds. Especially your shoulder, you've already ripped off some of the cobwebs I gave you."
She rolled her eyes and mimicked him, "You've already ripped off some of the cobwebs I gave you!" He growled in annoyance. "Fine, if you don't want them then why don't you do it yourself?"
"Fine, I will!"
"Go ahead!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
He whipped around and stalked away from her, bristling. Lionblaze shook his head sighing, "You know you started that right?" She glared at him and looked away.
"It's not my fault he pounces around thinking he's a damn king all the time. Talk about stuck up." Lionblaze rolled his amber eyes and sighed, "Right. Do you even know what he does?"
"Acts like an idiot."
"No! He's our medicine cat. He takes care of the clan and heals those who need it. He's a gifted medicine cat. Can't you at least try to be friends with him?"
She rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Friends? With that idiot? Fat chance." Lionblaze sighed, defeated. She noticed that Jayfeather was gone. She suddenly stood up, lifting her injured paw, and headed to the exit.
"What are you doing?" Lionblaze asked. She ignored him and peeked out of the den, Jayfeather was nowhere to be seen. "I want to look around the camp some more, Jayfeather's not in camp, so I won't have him nagging on my back the whole time."
"I don't think that's a good idea, I mean, your paw is still broken." She rolled her eyes. "Come on Lionblaze, I'll be fine. I'm bored staying in here all day, every day. I need a little action!"
He sighed, "Okay, fine. But I'm coming with you." She grinned but nodded. "Awesome! Let's go!" She bounded out of the den with Lionblaze following close behind.
