Amelia Gilbert

My hand came to my forehead. "I must be dreaming," I said, shaking my head. None of this could be real. "Vampires don't exist, I'm dreaming."

Damon turned his head, looking at his reflection in the mirror. "I could understand why you would think that."

"You drugged me, you must have." I said, walking around the couch. "I'm probably high right now." Damon sat down on the arm chair and folded his arms as he watched me pace behind the couch. I looked at him. "You can't be a vampire, it's impossible."

He was suddenly right in front of me, causing me to stumble backwards. He reached out his arm, which wrapped itself around my waist, pulling me to his chest and balanced me out. I gasped and looked up at him. "Is it?" He then asked me.

I put my hands on his chest and pushed out of his grasp. "Yes! Don't touch me." I backed away, creating distance between us. "And don't do that."

"Do what?" He tilted his head. "This?"

He was behind me.

"Stop it! You've had your fun, now let me go." I growled, walking backwards away from him. "I am of no use to you."

"You have no idea the amount of use you are to me." Damon said, his eyes lingering on me before walking back to the couch.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I stared at him warily.

He shrugged, a lazy smile spreading across his lips.

"Man… that shower was so great." As if I wasn't confused enough, when Vicki hopped down the stairs with a big smile on her face, it was like my brain had shut down. I couldn't comprehend why she was happy to be here. "What did you give me?" She asked Damon as she massaged her fingers into her damp hair.

"Some blood, you loved it." Damon replied and then winked over at me.

"Oh, hi Mia!" She then smiled at me. I stared back at her, gobsmacked. "What?" She asked, noticing.

"What is wrong with you?" I burst. "We've been kidnapped!" I pointed at Damon. "He kidnapped us, he killed all your friends, why are you happy? What is there to be happy about?"

"Maybe she is just grateful to be alive, something that you should be, Mia." Damon said, rolling his eyes.

"I love being alive." Vicki said, her arms wrapping around herself. "Thank you, Damon."

"Thank you, Damon?" I repeated. "Oh my god." I grabbed hold of my head. "I think I'm losing it."

"You need to loosen up." Damon said, taking steps towards me.

"Don't-" I warned him, immediately backing up. He was suddenly behind me again and I backed right into his chest. He smirked down at me, having way too much fun playing with me.

I tried to rush forward away from him, but his hand came down on my hip, pressing down hard and keeping me where I was.

"Oh c'mon, you haven't even given me a chance." he said into my ear. "I think you would really like me if you got to know me."

"I really doubt that." I said through gritted teeth.

"You were starting to." he replied, circling round to face me.

My cheeks flushed. "No I wasn't." He raised his brows.

"Are you two dating?" Vicki interrupted.

"No." I said sternly, trying to recreate the gap that just kept closing.

"Oh, ok." Vicki said, looking between us before settling on Damon. "Can I have another… hit?" She asked him. "That blood was so good!"

I looked at her as if she was crazy.

"Only if I can." he replied. She held out her wrist for him, and he wrapped his fingers around her wrist, tugging her towards him and then looked at me. "Wanna join? I don't want you to feel left out or anything."

I only shook my head, unable to comprehend the situation I was in. He shrugged and bit into his wrist. I walked back over to the couch and sat down. What were the chances that the door was open and ready for me to walk out of? Not very, I was thinking.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Damon's arm lazily laced round the back of the couch.

"Why did I come back here?" I spoke out loud. "Why didn't I just stay at school?"

"Some call it destiny, fate-"

"Someone up there hates me?" I looked over my shoulder at him.

"Do you still like Tyler?" I turned back around and Vicki was sitting on the coffee table in front of me. She had made her way through a bottle of whiskey.

I gave her a strange look. This was neither the time nor place. "He's all yours." I replied slowly, looking at Damon. "What did you do to her?"

"I just calmed her nerves." he replied, "I thought you said you weren't seeing anyone."

"With compulsion?"

"Now you're getting it." Damon said, standing up and moving in front of Vicki. He offered his hand and she took it and used it to stand up. "Who's Tyler?" He asked her.

"A guy that I'm seeing and I really like." Vicki revealed.

"What's his connection to Mia?" He asked.

"That's none of your-" I went to say, but Vicki cut me off.

"They dated for a really long time, but I think he still likes her." Vicki replied.

"Looks like we might have a little cat fight on our hands." Damon said, his brows rising as he looked down at me.

"Why don't you have a girlfriend?" Vicki asked him, "You're like so cool and you're totally hot." I'm sure Damon didn't need his ego boosting any further. He looked over at me, I pretended to gag.

"Did you compel her to say that?" I asked, crossing my arms.

He smirked in amusement at me; I didn't mean to play into his games.

"Don't you want to be in love?" She pushed him.

"I've been in love." he replied, which caught me by surprise, he caught onto that. "It's painful, pointless and over rated." He walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a bottle for himself.

"Except when it isn't." Vicki said, following him.

"No more talking." He turned round, raising the bottle in the air. "Let's dance!" He turned up the music, unscrewed the lid off the bottle and downed most of it in one go.

Maybe Damon intoxicated may make it easier to escape… or make him more dangerous.

Whilst the two danced like idiots, I surveyed the area. I had no idea how I was going to get out. There was only one door I could see and I would have to get past Damon to get to it. As if sensing me looking, he sped over and offered me his hand. I shrunk back on the couch. "No." I told him.

"C'mon." When I shook my head again, he reached down for my wrist and pulled me up.

"I don't want to dance!" I almost yelled, pushing against his chest. He then dipped me down low and I was certain he was going to drop me.

We heard a crash from upstairs. Damon let me go and I stumbled backwards. He then turned to look at me again and I did not like the glint that was in his eye. Before I could even question it, Damon had thrown me over his shoulder and sped upstairs to where Vicki was. He dropped me onto Stefan's bed where I rolled away from Damon, holding my head.

"I broke it, I'm really sorry." Vicki said, holding up a lamp.

"Don't be, this is Stefan's room." Damon replied, knocking over the books that were on Stefan's shelf.

"Leave me be." I moaned as Damon pulled me off of the bed. That vampire speed had not sat well with me. It felt like the pressure my ears felt when on a plane.

"Knock yourself out." Damon said into my ear, encouraging me to break Stefan's other lamp.

"I'm not going to destroy Stefan's things." I replied with a scowl, putting the lamp back down.

"Why not?" He asked, knocking the lamp down for me. "It's fun."

"Because he's a vampire!"

"Don't worry, I'll protect you." He teased and picked me up, chucking me back onto Stefan's bed.

"He is the one who is supposed to protect me from you!" I yelled up at him, he grabbed Stefan's pillow and ripped it, causing all the feathers to fall over me. This guy was mad. He came off the bed and went over to Stefan's desk. His body stilled for a moment while Vicki continued creating havoc around the room. He lifted up something that looked like an old photograph. I slid off the bed and walked over to get a closer look, but he suddenly turned around and threw me back onto the bed. "Stop doing that!"

"Pay attention to me!" Vicki yelled, grabbing his hand and pulling him out of the room. I watched as they went out the room while I snuck over to the window and tried to open it.

"Dammit!" I cursed when it didn't open. I walked along the corridor and found the room that I had woken up in. I walked inside and began searching the room. I could barely believe it when I found Damon's phone. I thought maybe it was a trick, that Damon was just playing with me. He would be giving me hope and then take it away.

Who do I call?

The cops?

I hit call on the last number Damon had dialled.

"Damon, you better not have hurt her, I'm getting the ring, ok?"

"Stefan, I'm fine." I said quickly.

"Amelia, are you ok?"

"I'm fine." I repeated. "I can't get out. I've tried windows; I can't get to the door..."

"Has he hurt you?"

"No, not yet."

"Where is he now?"

"Downstairs with Vicki." I told him. "He's been feeding from her and compelling her."

"Is that Mia? Let me speak to her!" I heard Elena. "Mia, I've been worried sick!"

"Where is my rescue party?!" I demanded. "I have been stuck here all night, Elena, they're-"

"Vampires?" She finished for me, I sighed with relief, that would have been a hard one to explain. "Stefan is one too, but Damon is dangerous, Mia."

"I've gathered that, Elena, what am I going to do?"

"We are just getting the ring," she told me. "Sit tight, ok?"

"Did you know?" I asked her. She better not have!

"No, not until last night. You'll be ok, Mia, we'll get you out, ok?"

"Yeah, yeah, just hurry." I snapped the phone down. I didn't want Damon to be suspicious so I put the phone back where I found it and began making my way down the stairs. The music had slowed down and so had the dancing. No, really, Damon and Vicki were actually slow dancing.

"Enjoy your conversation with Saint Stefan?" Damon asked, not even turning round to see that I was there, he just knew. I froze, how the hell did he know? "We vampires have excellent hearing."

"Can you read minds as well?"

He chuckled. Vicki scowled, not liking that Damon's attention was diverted. He noticed too. "You're so damaged." he observed. "You don't have one hint of self esteem."

"They never want just me." Vicki answered. "I'm so sick of it." I finished climbing down the stairs.

All we need to get do is keep in charge of the situation and we may just get out of this alive.

Damon sighed, "I think I know what can help you."

"What's that?" She asked him, eagerly.

"Death." He cracked her neck. Her body fell to the floor with a thud.

My whole insides tightened. My hand came to my mouth as I stared down horrified at Vicki's body. Damon turned his head to look at me. "Oh no, don't-"

I turned towards the stairs and began running in that direction. I shouldn't have been surprised when he was suddenly at the stairs, blocking the entrance.

"You monster!" I cried out, my hand flying up.

His hand captured my wrist, preventing me from hitting him. I tried to pull back, but he held a firm grip. His nostrils flared as he sighed at me impatiently, a frown deepening on his lips. His brows narrowed all of a sudden and he looked to the side… he was looking at my wrist. His gaze lingered there. His fingers tightening around my wrists so tightly I was sure he was cutting off the circulation.

"Let go!" I yelped out when he was squeezing to hard.

To my surprise, he did. I rubbed along where he had held met. I was sure that would leave a mark.

"I thought we were over the being scared phase." he said, looking down at me, that frown back in place.

"You said you wouldn't kill us." I hissed at him.

"I said I wouldn't kill you, I didn't say anything about her." He walked forward. "Little tip, don't run from me because I will catch you and just for fun, I might bite you too."

He walked forward, over to Vicki's lifeless body.

I didn't care what he said. It was instinct. I just ran up the stairs. I tried about five windows before I turned around and he was there.

"It's like you just gave me an invitation." Damon said, his arms spread out.

My hand covered my neck. "Stay away from me!" I warned.

"Would it make you feel better if she wasn't completely dead?" Damon said, moving towards me casually despite my shaking exterior.

"Stay back!"

"I haven't killed her… well technically I have, but… look if you're going to running from me, I'm going to-" He stopped when I tried to run past him. He sighed and threw me over his shoulder, speeding me back downstairs and dropping me onto the couch where I was before.

Now, I had a clear view of Vicki… waking up...

"I don't understand." I whispered, gazing over Vicki's slightly moving body.

"What did I teach you earlier?" He knelt in front of Vicki.

"Blood… death…" My head snapped up to look at him. "You turned her into a vampire?"

"Bingo."

"What happened?" Vicki groaned as she sat up. "We were dancing and then-"

"I killed you." he finished for her.

"What?" Her brows rose.

"You're dead." he said simply.

"I'm dead?"

"Yeah, well let's not make a big deal of it, you drank my blood, I killed you and now you have to feed in order to complete the process." he said as he sat down next to me.

"You're wasted." she dismissed and got up.

Vicki grabbed her clothes and moved towards the door. I was still in shock as I watched her.

"You don't want to be out there all alone." He then disappeared from sitting next to me and was now in front of Vicki. "Things are about to get really freaky."

"Look, I've had a really good time, but I just want to go home." she said, sidestepping him.

"You're still craving blood, and until you get it, you're going to be very out of it, so you have to be careful." he lectured, but didn't sound very serious.

I got up and moved towards him. "What happens if she doesn't get any blood?"

"She'll die." he replied, looking down at me

"Human blood?" I asked him, he nodded. I immediately backed up. "Is that why you brought me here?"

"What?" He reached forward to bring me forward, but I made sure I was out of his reach. "No, that's not what you're here for."

"But she might-"

"I won't let that happen." he said firmly. "If anyone is going to be drinking from you..." He didn't finish the sentence; instead, his gaze just lingered on me.

"Open the door." Vicki groaned, stopping our stare off.

I could hardly believe it when he stalked forward and opened it. "If I were you, I would stop by your boyfriend Jeremy's house."

"No!" I rushed forward. "No! No, why would you do that?" I slapped his chest with the back of my hand to his surprise. "Vicki, don't."

"You can't stop us from seeing each other, Mia." Vicki shot at me, rolling her eyes.

"Tell Elena I said hi and if you see Stefan, tell him to call me!" Damon said, pushing her out the door. I rushed to go after her, but Damon put his arm out, holding me back in. "Who said I was done with you?"

"I'll stay for however long you want, just don't let her go to my house." I practically begged him.

He groaned slightly, "That's a very interesting offer."

"Please, don't let her hurt him." My eyes were wide, my whole body felt tense. "You can feed from me-" His jaw tightened. "Just please, don't do this."

Damon lifted his arm; I didn't know what he was going to do. "Go." he told me.

"What?" He backed off, looking pretty annoyed with himself. "You're letting me go?" His tongue stuck into his cheek and he nodded. "Why?"

"Because right now I want to eat you and that would really ruin my plan, so..." He opened the door wider for me. I wanted him to laugh, tell me he was joking, but he didn't. I cautiously stepped forward, before moving under his arm to get out of the house. "I'll be seeing you real soon, Mia, don't you worry."

As soon as I was out the door, I ran.
