Chains of Remorse
The scarlet simian crossed the long distance with remarkable speed, his metallic arms glistening with droplets of battle blood and ooze. For once, he didn't bother to wipe the repulsive fluid away until he saw his own reflection (a marvelous, one helluva reflection) or polish his magnets until they regain their luster. He paid no heed to the sheen of sweat glistening on his forehead, the layers of grime tainiting his fur.
He, Sprx, of the Hyper Force cared about nothing…neither the advancing minions with the harbinger of doom nor the buildings burned down to ashes. The only thing he saw was her…her, the major casualty of the attack, and the victim of his carelessness. He began clenching and unclenching his fists frantically.
Contriteness pierced a gaping hole within him, so deep he was ready to clutch his chest and fall to the ground at a moment's notice. IT WAS ALL MY FAU LT!
After what felt like ages, he was finally there…before her, finally assured of her safety and guilt began to loosen its iron grip on his conscience. He could cope with the guilt and the regret, all of it as long as she's safe. He felt as though a boulder has been heaved off his chest, allowing him to breathe again. He sighed in gratitude, and spoke, his voice worn down by sorrow and anxiety, "I'm sorry…I'm so sorry. I just thought you wouldn't make it and," his teeth sunk into is lower lip and his right fist trembled vehemently. Midnight black eyes turned to her direction then back to his feet, hanging in midair with the toes slightly brushing the floor back and then. He looked tormented as he stared at the floor, continuing, "I couldn't stand the thought! I COULDN'T!" He was rasping, the efforts of the day finally dawning at his exhausted body, no longer spurred by adrenaline.
"I – I don't want this to happen again…I promise to never let this happen again." He vowed, one of his hands tightly fisted by his chest. He didn't raise his eyes from the tiled floor, more angst than exhausted.
Just then, the doors were kicked open with so much force Sprx knew that the walls will have door-shaped dents for the days to come. His bad-tempered comrade strode into the room, giant fists at the ready with trails of ooze running down her arms, shrieking at the top of her lungs, "STOP LAMENTING YOUR FUCKING SPACESHIP AND MOOOOOOOOVE IT YOU MORON!"
