I know it's been awhile….please don't hate me! My brother decided to clean the computer files and deleted all my stories. I was a little disheartened and it's taken me awhile to start over. Well, here we go!
I still do not own Harry Potter, can you believe it? Oh, well, there's always other fish in the sea!
Dumbledore was passing in his office. Every so often he glanced down at a small girl sleeping in a large chair by the fire. At the moment she was in a dreamless sleep and had no memory of what happened, at the moment there were no tries. He dreaded the moment when her sleep would end and reality kick in. Dumbledore had always been protective of the Evans family, ever since he told them young Lily was a witch. It was hard to believe that they were all gone now.
Dumbledore heard a light knock on the door.
"Come in Miss Evans."
When Lily entered his heart sank. He wished someone else could tell her.
"What's wrong Professor?"
It took the man a moment to find his voice, the sour lemon drop in his mouth just made everything more melancholy.
"There has been a death eater attack in your home town. Everything was burned to the ground."
"My parents, they got away! Where are they?"
"No Lily, they didn't get away."
Everything can crashing down. The boat race, James, everything else left her mind when she learned her parents had died, still no tries.
"Petunia, Tullie, where are they? Please tell me there safe!"
"Both are fine Lily. Petunia is right now in a muggle hospital. We have altered her memory a little, so she can continue living a normal life in her world. She thinks your parents died in a car crash. We've also seen to buying a new house, a place she now believe your family has always lived in. Tulip is in the chair over there."
Dumbledore watched as Lily raced to her little sister.
Tulip Evans, or Tullie as everyone called her, was five years old. Lily was eleven when Tullie was born, Petunia was thirteen. Both spoiled Tullie rotten. She was the baby of the family and everyone who knew her loved her. Her hair was a perfect mix between Lily's dark red and Petunia's blonde. She still had babyish copper curls. Her eyes were also a mix between her sisters. She had a strange bluish green color.
Mr. and Mrs. Evans were overjoyed when they noticed Tullie showing signs of magic. Having two witches in a non-magical family was extremely rare or so said Dumbledore. He even joked around that someone in their family history might have been a wizard, but in a long line of gardeners, it didn't seem likely.
Mrs. Evans had always been amazed at how different her three daughters were. Petunia was vain and unsure, a very bad combination. Lily was fiery and Tullie was curious about everything. Also, Tullie saw none of the evils in the world, to her, there was good in everything.
Lily held her little sister close and cried. Dumbledore watched over them for awhile, but then decided to leave them for the night.
"Please sleep here for the night Lily. There is more we need to talk about tomorrow. Also, I thinks it's better to keep you close…..somewhere safe!"
Lily nodded and took the blanket that her Professor handed her.
Before she could ask why she needed to be somewhere safe, "wasn't Hogwarts safe enough?", Dumbledore exited to the right, in to his bedchamber, and closed the door. She slept on the floor below her sister. She stroked Tullie's hair until she too fell asleep.
When Lily first woke up she forgot that her parents where died. In fact, the first question to come to mind was,
"Why am I laying on the floor?"
But then Lily looked up and saw Tullie. There was a thick trail of ash on Tullie's cheek, a memento from the burning of her house. Lily licked the edge of her robe and cleaned her sister's face.
Lily thought she knew what Dumbledore was going to say. He was going to talk about money, wills, and who should care for Tullie. Lily still had a year left at Hogwarts but she would be of age this November. She could not hand Tullie over to Petunia; Petunia would try to rip away her magic and change her sister into what Petunia saw as normal. The very thought chilled Lily's heart. There were no other family members to speak of. It wasn't an option; Lily was going to look after Tullie! She didn't care about her own future, she know that Tullie would do great things.
When Dumbledore entered the room Lily took a seat opposite his desk, little Tullie was still asleep on the chair. Dumbledore cleared his throat and was about to speak, but Lily cut him off.
"I know what this is about!"
"Do you Lily?"
"You're going to tell me that Tullie and I have nothing!"
Her professor sighed, "I'm sorry to say that you don't. Your father and his father, and his father before him put everything into the business. Sadly, the death eaters burned it to the ground as well. I have done some research about your mother's family…."
"There's nothing there, Mum was an orphan, she was abandoned as a baby, and she was never adopted…..I don't see why….."
"There might be more to it then that!"
Lily lend closer to the Professor, "What do you mean?"
"Do you remember when I told your father that there might be magic in your family? Now, about Petunia…"
Lily leaped to her feet, "She can't have Tullie! She can't! I'd die first!"
"Now Lily, I am not going to separate you and Tulip. Heavens no! I'm going to send you two on a quest!"
Lily sat down, "Excuse me?"
"If I'm correct about this magical relative, I do have a family in mind, you are the only heirs. So, the estate and money would all be yours. That is after you become of age or marry a wizard of age. Simply put, you will be able to rebuild your life with Tulip!"
Lily was quiet for a moment, "What do I have to do?"
"At the moment, I'm sending you to a cottage. I still have a little bit of research it do! Just relax, the cottage was my mother's and it's very safe. Just remember to stay together and everything will be alright!"
"There's something you're not telling me!"
Dumbledore sighed, "There's another person going after the inheritance."
"And?"
"This person would do anything to get it. This person will try to discredit you, and might even turn to physical harm!"
Lily was scared. Not for herself but for Tullie.
"As far as I've learned this person knows nothing about you or Tullie. You two must leave quickly! I will come in a few days….Trust no one!"
Hagrid then entered the room. He had always had a soft spot for Lily and wondered who would ever want to harm her? Dumbledore had told him some of what was going on. He had to take the Evan's sisters to a cottage in Kent to hide out. He also knew that their lives were in his hands, but as he told Dumbledore this morning,
"ne'er we two lives safe'r."
When Dumbledore noticed Hagrid he smiled,
"Lily, this is your bodyguard. Now, the three of you be careful! Hagrid, Tulip is still asleep, please carry her for me. I'm a little weak today."
Dumbledore moved a painting aside, revealing a secret passageway. He then led Lily, Hagrid, and Tulip deeper below Hogwarts.
So, what do you think? Is it getting confusing? Review and tell me who you thin the other heir is…please! In case you're confused, yes, Lily is the closest "BLOOD HEIR" but there is another who feels the right of inheritance. This is really getting off the subject "The Great Boat Race" isn't it? Don't worry; it's going to come back into the plot, as well as James. You can't figure out a family drama, raise a little sister, and battle the forces of evil without a little romance! Again, please review! It's nice to know someone's reading.
Hugs and thanks from Aine Darcy
