Jack turned left and right to see who was talking to him
"What do you mean?" Jack said in a low voice
"Well, you're no muggle" it continued "or a Wizard"
"How do you know?"
"I am the sorting hat" it claimed "You can't hide anything from me"
He kept quiet
"Ah, you're a guardian"
"Don't know what you're talking about"
The hat pulled itself down from his face "You can hide nothing from me, boy"
Jack pulled the hat out of his face "Okay, okay, I get it!"
"You'd better" it mumbled
A minute later it announced its decision "SLYTHERIN"
Roaring cheers from the Slytherin table erupted as he got down and went over to the House table
. . .
Rapunzel hid behind Merida "I don't know if I can do this, Mer" she said nervously "All these people-"
"Corona, Rapunzel" The headmistress announced
Rapunzel squeaked as Merida tried to push her in front "Yer up, Punz"
Poor Rapunzel shook as she went over the stool and sat. The sorting hat was placed above her head and she continuously fumbled with her locks
Merida eyed every movement Rapunzel made. She looked to her right
"Stop worrying, Hiccup" She said to her friend "Jis' relax"
"How can I relax when I'm surrounded by kids" hiccup mumbled
"Calm down, nothing is gonna-"
"RAVENCLAW" the hat announced
Claps and cheers echoed from the Ravenclaw table and Rapunzel shakingly went over as they welcomed her
"See? Punz kin' handle it" she gestured to the blonde who is now shaking hands with her housemates
"That's because she has self-confidence"
The headmistress called other names for their sorting
"There's nae point getting Nervous"
"Nervous? Me? No, I'm not"
She shot him a look
He looked at her "What?"
"Dunbroch, Merida" The headmistress called
She looked up and went over the stool
Meanwhile, Hiccup gave himself a pep talk
'Alright you can do this! It's not so bad. Just sit and wait for the hat to tell you where you'll stay and poof that's it'
"GRYFFINDOR!" it announced and Merida made her way to the Gryffindor Table as they welcomed her with claps and cheers
'See!? If the three of them can do it, so can I!"
His hands shook as student after student was called to go up to the old hat and have their fate decided
"Horrendous, Hiccup Haddock the third" The headmistress called out
Hiccup took a deep breath and walked towards the stool
This was a mistake. He wasn't magical. He wasn't special. He didn't belong here. He was nothing. He-
"Calm down, you dork" The whispered voice caused him to spin around to face the speaker, but found none
"What? Who-"
"I said calm down" it said again
"Where are you?" he asked it
"On your head"
"You're the hat?"
"Yes- now be quiet"
He did as the hat asked him to and sat there. Students in the hall waited patiently for his sorting but Hiccup wasn't used to have people look at him like that
He really did try to stay calm and relax but somehow, he thought of other possibilities that he could end up to: Maybe the hat would declared that someone had made a mistake? He wasn't really a wizard, or maybe he was, but not a good enough one to fit in at such a prestigious school.
"So, you're a Viking" the hat said to him "Never had one, until now"
"So there aren't any other students here that are Vikings?"
"No, not until now" it spoke in a small voice until it declared that he's going to be in Hufflepuff
Great, He's the first Viking who ever step foot into Hogwarts, let alone, learn at Hogwarts
. . .
When the sorting was finished, the headmaster stood and went over to the podium. He had a few gray streaks of hair; he wore a robe like gown that dropped upon his feet it is in a light shade of light purple and a few sparkles were at the bottom. As a belt, he wore a golden rope around his waist; he looked wise and looked noble.
"First of all" He opened he arms "Welcome! To another year of Hogwarts! And I hope you all will be guided throughout your journey here. As you all know, I have to announce a few notices"
He cleared his mouth "No one should go to the forbidden forest at night. I'm sure all of you heard about that but we have new students here and they may as well know. Moving on, First years are not allowed to do Quiddich, yet since you're all first years and can only enter during your second year but you may take flying lesson which starts at 3:30 every afternoon on a Wednesday and-"
She heard him snap his fingers and food appeared at the table "enjoy!" he finished
The growling on her stomach reminded her that she has not eaten for hours. She picked any food her hands could reach and ate them heartily. A few minutes later, all the food were replaced with desserts as they all finished the main course and Merida, happily picked a slice of the chocolate cake in front of her
"You're the princess of Dunbroch!" one of the older girls in front or her gushed
"I never thought I would meet her here in Hogwarts!" another said
"You're a princess?" an older boy from her right looked at her in awe
"ahmn…" was all she could say
"Don't mind Charlie" the first one gestured to the boy on her right "I'm Beth and this is Marie"
The girl, Marie waved at her enthusiastically
"Now we-"
"Are glad to have you here, Princess Merida" Charlie interrupted Beth
"Umm…Me too" Merida replied politely, despite the urge to stand up and run away
"Seem like Hogwarts is in trouble" Charlie turned his attention at Beth
"Can't say I'm surprised" Marie drank from her cup "It's been like that for the past two years"
"Ah'm sorry" Merida cut in "Trouble?"
"Well you see, the sorting hat would warn us if trouble comes" Charlie said to her
"It would often say that we all should be strong" Marie said
"Princess Merida, the sorting hat never lies" Beth looked at her "When it says that Hogwarts is in Danger, it really will be in Danger"
And all the empty plates and finished desserts were gone and The Headmaster announced that all prefects should escort all the first years unto their common rooms
"Okay, first years here. First years here come on!" She heard the prefect exclaimed and Merida quickly got up and thankfully went over to the prefect
The prefect looked at her "You don't seem like a first year" he examined Merida up and down "Are you sure that you're a first year?"
"Aye, I am. Aren't I?" Merida asked the prefect
"Maybe" He observed her once again "You seem tall and look like you're…I don't know, 16 years old I guess?"
"Aye, that's right"
He looked at her strangely "shouldn't you be 11 years old"
She held her breath
"I don't know why but since you were in the sorting and I haven't seen you before, you really must be a first year" He said with a hint of doubt in his tone "Well then, follow me"
Merida agreed and took a glance at Rapunzel, who was struggling with her hair. Merida wanted to help but she can't. She followed the Prefect, leading the way to the Gryffindor common room.
