Green abruptly woke up, sitting up and hyperventilating. His eyes were burning in pain from his crying last night and it was difficult to breathe. He looked around the dim-lit room at his alarm clock, reading 6:00AM. Green sighed and laid back down, resting his head into his pillow. He closed his eyes and imaged Red. Green imagined him putting down the can of beer, saying that he would quit drinking. He imagined Red saying that he would quit just for Green. He imagined Red saying that he loved Green too much to continue this horrid abuse. He imagined Red walking up to Green and holding him in a comforting embrace.
Green winced as more tears spilled out of his already burning eyes. Why was Red doing this? Why can't Red see that all his drinking is just causing damage to everyone? Green couldn't and wasn't going to take this anymore. He didn't care if Red disowned him as a friend. He didn't care if his family disowned him for being gay. Green wanted to – needed to – tell Red his feelings. Maybe that would make Red come to his senses. Maybe it would make him realize that all of this drinking is just doing everyone, including himself, no good.
Green swiftly got out of bed and put on a fresh pair of clothes. He opened the door and sighed of relief when he found that the lights were turned off – it meant Daisy was asleep and he could sneak out easier. Green quietly walked down the staircase, trying to avoid every spot that creaked. Once he was down the staircase, he opened the front door quietly and gently shut it closed once he was outside. Green looked at Red's house, gulping in fear. He wondered how this would turn out. He sighed and proceeded to walk to Red's house.
The brunette looked in the window of Red's house and saw that Red was still asleep on the couch. Damn, he's a heavy sleeper when he's drunk. Green walked to the front door and decided to wake up the sleeping drunk. He knocked on the door loudly and pressed the doorbell button numerous times. Suddenly, he heard shuffling and ceased his actions. A couple seconds later and the door swung open.
"Green… do you know how late it is? What do you want?" Red mumbled sleepily.
"I need to talk to you. This is important," Green said, walking into Red's house uninvited.
"Well, it better be important. I have a hangover right now," Red hissed, holding his head in one hand.
Green turned around and glared at Red. He shut the door, making Red wince in pain.
"Shit, don't do that," Red complained.
"Don't do that?! How about you 'don't do' alcohol anymore?!" Green growled, stepping closer to Red. "Your drinking has ruined my life!" he yelled. Green took Red's hands and pinned them on the back of the front door, Red's back soon joining them.
Suddenly, Red started chuckling. Green gave him a confused look. "My drinking has ruined your life? You do know that you don't have to get involved in my private life. You know you don't have to take care of me. You know you don't have to deal with my abuse. Yet, you do anyways. And why is that, Green? Why do you care about me so much to the point where you'd say I 'ruined' your life?"
Green was in complete shock as the cold hard truth slapped him in the face. He knew that Red knew about his feelings. Red manipulated him. Red used him for his own sadistic reasons. Green growled and his grip tightened on Red's wrists.
"You're using me. You were using me from the beginning. You wanted to ruin my life. You knew that I would want to take care of you and YOU TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THAT," Green yelled at the end, breathing heavily. Rage completely took over. Green let go of Red's left wrist and punched him hard in the face. Red's eyes widened in surprise, the wind knocked out of him.
"DO YOU LIKE HOW THAT FEELS?!" Green screamed at Red. "BECAUSE I DON'T!" Tears of frustration ran down Green's cheeks as he punched Red in the face again, causing the dark-haired man's nose to bleed. Red took his free hand to wipe away the blood from his face. He wanted to defend himself, but he didn't want to hurt Green again. He realized how bad this has gotten. He had made Green snap completely.
Before Red knew it, Green had pushed him to the ground and kicked him in the stomach. Red yelled in pain. "THAT DOESN'T FEEL GOOD, NOW DOES IT?!" Green shouted, kicking Red in the stomach again. Red winced in pain, tears rolling down his eyes.
"Please… stop, Green. This isn't you," Red managed to get out. Of course Green is usually verbally abusive, but he's never physically abusive – especially not like this.
"I'VE TOLD YOU TO STOP BEFORE AND YOU NEVER HAVE!" Green yelled, "YOU JUST KEPT HITTING ME." Green kicked Red in the face, giving him a nasty bruise on his left cheek.
"I'M SORRY!" Red wailed loudly at the blow. Red realized what he did was wrong. He wanted to make it up to Green somehow, but he couldn't even get that far if Green continued to beat him like this. Red grabbed Green's foot and dragged him onto the floor. Green yelled in pain as his body collided with the hardwood floor. Red crawled over to lay down on top of Green's body, pinning his wrists down onto the ground.
"You need to listen to me, Green," Red panted, "I realize how I treated you was wrong. I'm going to stop drinking. I'm… I'm sorry. The truth is I wanted you to be with me and taking care of me. You taking care of me felt so special. It wasn't like how my mom took care of me whenever I was sick as a child. It felt more passionate. It felt more loving. I got way out of hand and I'm so sorry I put you through that much pain," Red sobbed loudly during the last sentence.
Green stared up at Red in awe. So Red wasn't using him for his own sadistic pleasure? Red loosened his grip on Green's wrists. Green took this chance to use his right hand to wipe away Red's tears. Red winced as Green's fingers also brushed against his fresh bruises. Green immediately pulled his hand away once he saw Red's expression.
"I'm sorry, Red," Green said, slipping his other hand free. He sat up so he was face to face with his rival sitting in his lap. "No, don't apologize. I should be the one saying sorry. I'm the one who ruined your life. I was a selfish jerk. I deserved that beating and more," Red sobbed quietly. He placed his arms around Green's neck. Green instinctively wrapped his arms around Red's waist.
"Red, I love you," Green said bluntly, leaving a soft kiss on the tip of Red's nose.
"You… you love me?" Red asked, his face heating up slightly.
"Yes, I do. That's why I took care of you. That's why I put up with your abuse. I didn't realize it until earlier this night that the reason why I put up with everything you put me through is because… I love you. I love you so much, Red," Green whispered, placing his forehead on Red's.
"I love you, too, Green. I love you so much," Red whispered back, kissing Green's lips gently. Green closed his eyes and hummed in the kiss, pulling Red closer to him. Hopefully, things will get better from now on.
A/N: I'm so sorry for not updating. Life got in the way as always. Well, at least I'm finished with high school! I'm so excited! And I started therapy as well, so I've been busy with that as well. This new year kind of sucks, though. Lots of bad stuff has happened since the 1st (last night was probably the worst thing that happened this year). I'll try to come up with another chapter soon since I don't have the stress of school work on my shoulders anymore. But I also have the stress of getting a job while being transgender, so that's probably going to cause even more stress and probably a long break from fanfiction.
Wish me luck, everyone. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Happy belated new year!
