Chapter 6: Nightmare

"Nicole! No!"
"Ellie!"
"Nicole!"
Just then the guys ran around the corner and almost fell into the hole.
"What the hell?! What happened here Ellie?!"
"And where is Nicole?"
Ellie looked from them to the hole…praying that Nicole was ok. "A Brute came crashing through the ceiling and made a hole all the way down to the mines I assume."
"Yeah the mines are everywhere under the while station."
"And…and Nicole fell in and was holding onto the floor on the floor below us," Ellie said pointing out the area on the edge of the floor below, "And she lost her grip and fell down too. I was trying to reach her but I couldn't."
Justin started toward the hole, visibly going to jump down and go in after her but Isaac grabbed a hold of him, Justin trying to break free. "Let me go! I have to go get her!"
"Justin stop!"
Isaac's harsh tone snapped Justin out of it somewhat, to the point where he wasn't struggling to get to the hole and go in after.
"What the hell Isaac?"
"Do you know anything about the mines?"
"No I…"
"Have you ever been in them?"
"No but how hard…"
"But how hard could it be? I work or worked in the mines for most of my life. If you have never been in a mine before, and they all are similar and if you don't know how to read the maps and schematics of the mines…you're never gonna get out of there."
Justin sighed in defeat. "Ok. But what are we gonna do? We have to go in after her."
"Correction, I will go in after her, since I know the mines and how to navigate through them no problem. You will stay here with Ellie and when I get her we will decide where to meet up at."
Ellie gave Isaac a worried look. "But what if you don't find Nicole right away? The mines are probably filled with necromorphs. Can you handle that?"
Isaac smirked at Ellie, "Yeah, it's not like I haven't don't this before."
"I know but…"
"I agree. You shouldn't go in alone Isaac."
"You to try to get somewhere safe, I'm going to go get Nicole and meet you there as soon as I get her."
Both sighed in defeat, "Ok."
Isaac nodded and told them to be careful and then he jumped down the hole to the mines for Nicole.
Isaac finally touched down on some good old firm ground, not the crumbly edges of the floors he had had just climbed/jumped down.
'Now if I could just find Nicole, but let's get some light so I can see.'
Isaac raised his Plasma Cutter once the flashlight was firmly attached. He looked both left and right and saw something odd looking on the ground to his right. He slowly and carefully made his way over until he was close enough to see that it was Nicole. Her Line Gun was laying a few feet from her body. She was, or seemed, so still.
Isaac touched her shoulder and lightly shook her. Her body was warm and she was in fact breathing, so she thankfully wasn't dead.
'Damn…it's a miracle that she isn't dead from the fall. bus she may have a few broken bones though…But how did she get over here? When she landed she should have been knocked out so how did she manage to move to the right on the hole?'
"Nicole. Nicole! Wake up!"
Isaac lifted her up into his arms, but her lower half still rested on the ground cause right now, he was more concerned with waking her up than carrying her to the others.
"Nicole! Are you there?!"
"Yes Isaac. I've always been with you."
Isaac felt a cold chill go down his spine. No…no way…no fucking way!
'Nicole…'
"Nicole?! What the fuck?!" And Isaac fired a shot at the Nicole standing up, but…
"Isaac, is that anyway to say "Hi"? By shooting at me?"
(A.N. oh! How could Isaac just shoot at Nicole like that? :O)
"No! You were…I fucking destroyed you and cured my dementia on the Sprawl when I destroyed the marker! How are you back?!"
(A.N. Surprise! You thought I meant the Nicole he just found? Nicole Layner? Noooo but fooled ya! XD)
Nicole smirked at Isaac, obviously pleased with his reaction to seeing her.
"I said I would always be with you. And I am," she said with an evil smile.
"Not as a hallucination again! Is it cause of the marker?!"
"And her…" Nicole pointed at the Nicole in that was still unconscious in Isaac's arms.
"How…" but Nicole didn't let him finish before she said 1 thing very coldly.
"You saved the wrong Nicole on the Ishimura, Isaac."
Isaac's eyes widened suddenly.
"What?"
"You should have saved me, Nicole, your girlfriend. Not Nicole, the little 5 year old girl about to have her face eaten of by her mommy necromorph!"
Nicole was visibly angry now, her body was starting to glow like it did on the Sprawl. Her eyes and mouth shoot out the beams of light from them too.
"But you were already dead before I even came there! You killed yourself before I could even get to you! And I don't even fucking remember saving her on the Ishimura!"
"Then let me show you," and before Isaac could blink, Nicole was there in front of him, a hand on his chin and the other on his forehead, forcing him to look her in the eyes and sending him into his mind, into the repressed memory.
~Flashback~
-Oh the Ishimura-
Isaac was walking down another hallway in the Sleep Block C Bunks sector, blood and unchanged bodies laid everywhere, mixed with dead necromorphs too.
He suddenly heard this odd noise coming from the hall up ahead and to his right. He turned the corner and at 1st he didn't see anything till he heard screaming coming from up ahead. As he moved closer he saw a female Slasher trying to kill a small girl, but the little girl seemed to be holding off the arms and face of the necromorph well.
Isaac rushed closer and carefully shot the head off the necromorph 1st so it wouldn't bite her and in 2 more shots, the arms were off and the Slasher was dead.
He went over and pulled the Slasher's body off of the little girl. She was still, thankfully, alive. She was just covering her eyes, crying, shaking and when he touched her shoulder she shrieked and plastered herself against the wall in front of Isaac.
"Hey…hey its ok. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm not a necromorph, I am actually killing them so I can find someone," Isaac held out his hand to her, "My name is Isaac Clarke. What's yours?"
He was still shocked that this girl was still alive and sane rather than not turned into one of the Pack necromorphs or insane, she had to be only about 5 or 6 years old.
"M-my n-name is N-Nicole."
She was so scared that she could barely speak, but she took his hand.
"Hey would you like to get out of here Nicole?"
Nicole nodded and he picked her u with his left arm, holding her obviously to his left side while he still held his Plasma Cutter with his right hand, raised and ready to shot.
"Where is your mom Nicole? Surely she didn't leave you all alone."
"No. T-that m-monster trying to h-hurt me was my m-m-mommy…"
"Oh no. It will be ok now."
They proceeded down the hallway they were in towards the right, since that was the direction Isaac had to go in now to get to them.
~End Flashback~
Isaac gasped as he came out of the flashback, seeing that Nicole had let go of his face and was still staring at him with a smirk.
'That wasn't all of it…I know that somehow.'
"What the fuck Nicole?! What was that for?!"
Her smirk had vanished into a deep set frown and glare.
"You said you didn't remember saving her and I showed you. Now wont you agree that you saved the wrong Nicole?"
Isaac glanced down at the Nicole in his arms, still unconscious. He just couldn't believe that he managed to save her on the Ishimura.
'Maybe I did save the wrong one…'
"No."
(A.N. you thought he was gonna say yes I bet.)
Nicole's eyes widened.
"What?!" she spat out, venom strongly laced into her words.
"No. you were dead by the time I was able to get there. You didn't even give me a fucking chance to arrive before you killed yourself! While Nicole here," he looked down at Nicole, "but she was able to survive everything till I luckily found her. Your to blame for me not being able to save you Nicole!"
Isaac the noticed Nicole began to stir, as if she was coming too.
"Nicole!"
"Since you care more for her, how about I take her life now?"
And before Isaac could get a chance to even reply, he felt Nicole's body tense up and then slack some.
"Nicole?" He tried shaking her but her body just acted like a rage dolls. He checked her pulse and nothing and she wasn't breathing too.
"Stop it! She never did a thing to you!"
"She should have died on there! Just like I did! If you hadn't saved her, I wouldn't be here right now, trying to kill her so I can have her body to myself and come back to you!"
"Nicole! Stop this! This isn't you! You loved to help people and now you're trying to kill a fellow survivor of the Ishimura! I'm not alone! Someone else knows what really happened there and can relate to me, kinda. You can' kill her." He decided to try this trick he just thought of, so he lowered his voice to sound soft. "Nicole, she has someone on this ship who loves her very much and if you take her away from him," he looked down at Nicole in his arms, praying that this would work and she would be ok, "He will be alone like I was when I 1st lost you. You can't do that to him, he is a good person."
Nicole's face didn't relax but in her eyes something softened. And suddenly Nicole was breathing again but she was freaking out.
"There, but I warn you Isaac she will be mine eventually. As will you, as will you…"
Isaac's eyes widened as she disappeared, but her voice still rung in the area or in his/their heads.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky!
When the blazing sun is gone,
When the nothing shines upon,

Nicole continued to shake, toss and turn, and mumble out some words.
"No….away…stars…hurt me…noo…"
Isaac tried to wake her once more but nothing worked. She seemed to be stuck in her mind or in a dream, and he needed to get her out of there fast before…before something happened to her.
(A.N. sry for the long wait but school started again and college isn't gonna be easy with my English class now (I suck at writing essays) so wish me luck but plz, read and review. I would like at least 3 before I post chapter 7, which would be a while so is doable, so thanks! Hope you like!)
