Chapter 6
There seemed to be fire, everywhere. All around her. Smoke filled her lungs and the ash seemed to weigh her down, turning her hair grey and pasting itself onto the tear tracks on her face. General Leo lay before them on the ground, and he was struggling, writhing on the floor. No one could move, it was like their entire bodies had been numb and if they so much as tried to move a finger then they seemed to seize with electric shocks. The air was thick with crackling magic and screams and buildings collapsing and destruction and painful groans. It was chaos.
And the clown loved it.
General Leo…
General Leo…
He lay on the floor, grunting, squirming, but he couln't move.
And then again, the knife was falling, falling, falling-
I knew it was going to happen tonight. Narshe was the city that it all ended and began again in, for her. And so, she slept in my bed. I slept next to her - except I wasn't really sleeping. I was waiting, and hoping that nothing would happen.
But then she started shaking, and I knew what was coming. So I sat up and coaxed her up with me, and put my arms around her and threaded my hands through her hair and whispered the words that I could never say when I was awake.
And eventually, she awoke. The warm hands and feeling of comfort woke her up. She was snapped from her nightmare before it even really began.
"Edgar-" Her eyes were blurry and unfocused. But she looked more like a fairy than usual. He stared into her face - he knew that then more than ever he was so in love with her, so much that it hurt him.
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
He smiled, and laughed a little. "I'd do anything for you. Always."
She smiled back, and kissed him. Her heart set a drumming rhythm in her chest again, something she'd become familiar with, and her heart felt like it was going to burst with something… love. She lay down again, and he lay down next to her, happily. Once, a long time ago, a women had beckoned him into his bed with them - but he was a different person then, and that was a completely different woman to the one now next to him.
"I love you."
Yeah I know it was short, but it's all part of the plan, you know? Patience, my friends! I know you're out there, reading, somewhere...
Anyway, please follow for more and review if you've got time! Thanks!
